Legends Beach Resort
- What's Included
- All Inclusive Features
Spent our anniversary here. Rooms were nice and rather large. The beach was so wonderful, we cancelled our trip to Kingston and stayed in Negril an extra three days. There are several restaurants within walking distance of both Samsara and Legends Beach. All the staff at both locations was extremely nice and helpful. Security was amazing. We didn't do the all inclusive and choose to eat local. Spent a couple of nights at their sister resort Samsara which was also very nice. I don't normally write reviews, but this place was worth a glowing review. Planning on going back next year.
The best thing about this resort is the beach. We picked it because we wanted to be on the beach and it certainly delivered in that aspect. We spent most days on chaises under umbrellas or in the ocean. Lovely. The staff was also outstanding; very friendly, outgoing, and helpful. I would not recommend an all inclusive stay. My husband and I did not find the food to be all that good; in fact, despite being all-inclusive, we ate out for 3 of our 5 nights there. Alcohol was also limited to mostly rum drinks, Red Stripe, and not much else. Even a glass of wine had an upcharge, and service stopped at 10pm. The facility was small, a bit run down, but not bad. Maintenance crew worked hard keeping walkways and beach clean. Area across the street (Gardenside) was very run down; there was a game room in disrepair that no one could use. There was entertainment advertised 2 days each week, it was the same local band both times, playing folk type music through the dinner hour; again stopping by 10pm. If you are looking for night life this is not the place for you. We found ourselves going to bed early due to lack of anything to do. We walked the beach once or twice at night, but the vendors stalk you. The room was fairly clean; AC worked well, shower had hot water. Free internet did not work in our room, but usually we could access from the balcony. Bed was firm. Sheets were never changed during our 5 day stay. Towels are sometime hard to come by; and be sure to bring your own beach towels, they do not offer any. The day we spent at Samsara was very nice. The resort seems a bit more updated and the view is incredible. There is no beach there, but you can jump off the cliff areas or climb down a ladder. We went to Ciao Jamaica across the street from Samsara for a lovely dinner; they will give you a free shuttle back to Legends from the restaurant. We also had a fantastic meal at Kumbaya's right next door to Legend's (on the beach). If you want an excursion, I would not recommend booking through the front office. They have someone come in from an outside agency to arrange trips. We had an appt to meet this person at 11:00 one day; we went to the office and waited an hr for someone to show up. We booked our trip for the following day...and our van was late picking us up. Spent another hr waiting then. Didn't really appreciate wasting valuable vacation time on miscommunication. We finally reached the excursion vendor who told us he made an error w/our pickup time; but we were not offered any discount or compensation for our wasted time. In closing, this was not quite the vacation I had anticipated, but for some folks,it may be the perfect place.
The security alone makes this place worth it. A lot of places don't have security and the local peddlers can get in to pester you - but not here. We stayed on oceanside and did not go with all inclusive. There are tons of restaurants within walking distance that are very good - so location is perfect too - close to everything.
Nice small place with friendly staff and home cooked food and access to a great beach with beautiful sunsets. This was a budget trip for us so the All Inclusive accommodations were as expected based on reviews and less than what we are used to, but we had a nice time relaxing and swimming in the ocean which was our goal for this trip. TIPS are not included so bring plenty of small bills to tip the staff. They work 6 days a week for long hours and do a great job, you'll want to tip them all well. Majority of the staff is friendly. A few of the ladies are more stand-offish and can appear as slow to help or don't want to be bothered, but you learn the nicer friendly staff in the first day and learn where to sit and who to ask for drinks or service. Majority of the men were super friendly and seem to be glad you are there. Lots of fist bumps and "where you from?".There is only one dining area and is open air with fans over half and other half open to sun and you can see the beach/ocean from all seats. Dress accordingly to stay cool when eating and at night bugs were biting me, so bring bug spray it really helped, but still had plenty of bites on my legs. The Authentic Food was really good. We enjoyed all our meals. If you are a picky eater or have picky kids with you, then you may have issues with food. Usually you have a choice between beef, chicken and fish (alternates each night with 2 choices) usually Rice and greens or other veggies. Food is cooked fresh and only served 3 times a day so if you snack between meals, bring some with you. Water cups are small, so bring a large bottle from home or buy one there to stay hydrated. Rooms are okay- Definately more of a 3 star hotel. The bed was too firm for us but that is a personal preference. The room was clean and shower had hot water, sometimes too hot (ours was hard to adjust to warm). AC is a window unit so not real cold, but okay if using light blanket for sleep. Very noisy at night when some insects or other creatures start making their nightime noises and you can hear people talking on walkways outside, so bring earplugs if you need it quiet to sleep. The beach area is small but amazing sand and view of the ocean and smooth walking into the ocean. Mike was great to set up chairs and umbrella for us and keep the vendors from bothering if needed. The only issue we had when on the beach were the vendors were persistent in trying to sell you everything (especially their local "herb") all day long so we couldn't enjoy walking the beach as we usually do because that quickly became annoying to be approached every few feet. We tried to ignore or say no thanks as others suggested, but they seemed to not take that from us and wanted to talk to my husband anyway. It made him very nervous so we didn't walk the beach nor outside the hotel gates after the first day. We used beach chairs closer to our hotel instead of close to water and stayed in them or went straight to the water and avoided some of that. The smell of ganga is very strong on the beach as majority of the locals smoke it all day as they walk by and some patrons partake openly as well. So if that smell bothers you, then this might not be the place or island for you. Not much to do before 7 am or after 9pm unless you want to venture out, so we went to bed early each night. They do have HBO cable so we watched a few movies before bedtime. My husband is an early riser and you can't access the restaurant or beach from the hotel until 7am and there is not really anywhere to walk at the hotel, so he paced our room for several hours waiting for the restaurant and beach access to be unlocked around 7 each morning. We did shuttle to the Samsara, cliff side sister hotel, one day and it was nice and small. There are several areas you can jump into the ocean and their pool was nice. We played pool table as well. We had lunch and dinner there and same food as Legends offered. So if you want to jump off some cliffs, then head over at 10 and catch the free shuttle and it brings you back at 4pm.We paid $20 to have the hotel shuttle us to Rick's cafe. It was okay, we jumped a few times, but divers would do one jump every 30 to 40 mins after they collected enough tips to jump once. The food was very pricy there so we shared small order of beef patties which are good. They are cheaper in town and hotel can have the driver take you there for small fee and pay 1.50 US ea. Chicken patty was good too.We saved a lot of money and had a driver from the restauraunt next door take us to the Original Mayfield falls side of the waterfalls. Mike can tell you who. It was a highlight of our trip as we got to take our time with our guide and relax and swim in each of the 21 pools as we slowly made our way up really small, yet beautiful waterfalls. I suggest going on your own and paying driver directly then paying $20 ea to the Original Mayfield falls side, they have water shoes to rent if you don't bring any. I suggest not booking thru other side with Chukka, they cost a lot more and we saw them hurry thru with several groups. On the original side it was just me and my husband and minus the few times those groups came thru and rushed back, we got to take our time and really enjoy the area by ourselves as our guide patiently waited and took our pictures with my water camera. He did a great job. Plan to Tip well.
When I arrived the lady in the reception thought it was more important to have dinner then to check in, so caring! I forgot my electricity plug and it was arranged straight away by a nice guy in the bar! I was travelling alone, had 16 days all inclusive! Had one off the best holidays ever! Every morning coffee toast fresh fruit, what more do you need?! Lunch and dinner perfect! Delicious food! No it is not a RIU hotel were you can choose from different ice creams till whatever, this is like mama is cooking for you every day Jamaican food! Brilliant! When I was leaving for a trip before breakfast-time I got a lunchbox! The staff is so so so nice they look like a family all together enjoying their work and are very attentive to their guests! The rooms were big and very clean, the shower warm, fresh towels every day, which I don,t think is nessesary! I read a lot off negative stuff I think these are the people.......... what shall I say..... I think best is to say nothing! Okay the owners of this hotel (Legends and Samsara) could do a little maintainance here and there! But owh I hope they realisze what a brilliant staff they have! Whether it,s the staff on the beach, at the bar, in the kitchen, the gardner, the security, the reception, they have made my holiday awesome! So conclusion, when your,e not the type for a a Hilton, RIU mega hotel with nonsense over the topp entertainement (Legends and Samsara have a houseband "the Overtakers" very lovely people!) people overdressed, and an ridiculous overkill on foodchoice , choose Legends! Yeeeeeha! Lots of .... # One love! Andrea Holland x
