Legends Beach Resort

Hello! I want to express much gratitude for the wonderful stay we had a Legends from 2/2-2/9. After a lot of research we decided on staying at Legends resort for a trip to Jamaica after having not been back for 10 years and wanting to stay on the gorgeous 7 Mile Beach instead of where I'd been before further out of town up by Rui, Couples, etc.I'll get my only complaint out of the way first, which is about the transfer service the resort hired to bring us from (and back to) Montego Bay airport. Though our flight arrived at 3:00 pm, and customs was tedious and must have taken an hour to get through, still we didn't wind up at Legends until 7:30 due to the driver not even leaving the airport until about an hour after he'd collected all of his eight, Negril-bound passengers then stopping three times for a group of them for up to 20 minutes at a time to buy beer and smoke cigarettes at roadside bars. After a long day of traveling, by the third stop we were upset plus worried we might miss dinner at the resort. I completely understand fellow tourists wanting to begin their vacation right away, but 3.5 hours to get us to Negril was just too much, though the return trip with the same service on departure day went perfectly. Legends please take note. Now for the happy part, and there was a lot to be happy about! Our oceanview room and view from our balcony were wonderful. We walked into our room to find it clean and the comfortable king-sized bed decorated with a soft-sculpture made from a towel and pink flowers, with more pink flowers in the fully functional and clean bathroom. What a lovely welcome, and from then on the rest of our stay was as perfect. We'd booked all-inclusive, the food was tasty (especially Jamaica night!), the drinks were plentiful, the beach was impeccable (though you do need to bring beach towels and get out to claim lounge chairs early), but the best part was the remarkable customer service offered by all the staff, with special shout-outs to Kendrick (the ultimate dining room host!) Giovanni, Kimeka, Hillary and Jean, all of whom helped make our stay so perfect. THANK YOU SO MUCH!One thing to be aware of--local vendors, especially musicians, do saunter along the beach in front of you while you sunbathe or just enjoy the warmth and view. A simple "No thank you" will do. There are times, though, when the musicians are really good or somebody's carvings are remarkable and worth your attention. I would like to add we hired friendly Steve Positive (876-372-8354) for a happy, reasonably priced day touring the countryside, and Famous Vincent (876-473-6910) for a spectacular snorkeling trip to the coral reef, and I highly recommend both these services to anyone. I also recommend visiting during the Bob Marley Birthday celebration, and folks don't be afraid of going into town at night to places like MXIII to join in the musical festivities and experience more of the real Jamaica with the wonderful Jamaican people. Just hail a cab with a red plate and negotiate.Thank you, thank you all for who you are and for a wonderful vacation. We hope to see you all again one day. Until then we'll remember and miss you. Much love and respect from Ernie and Marna from New Hampshire!
The hotel is right on the beach, and like all others is subject to the good and bad things that go along with that. The staff were great, helpful in every way, and more than willing to assist. We did not go for the all inclusive, and did not have a hard time finding something different each day. We did find the food on the menu at legends restaurant a very pleasant surprise, both in taste, and reasonably price. Everything in our room worked, except for poor water pressure in the shower. The gardenside pool was a pleasant surprise, and a lovely place for a short nap. The location, and the staff are truly the things that would make me consider returning.
The Good....Legends - what can I say. Don't cheap out, stay on the beach side. The walk from the beach to the "Garden Side" aka the other side of the street is not far but, when you have to cross Manley Blvd. - let's just say, you'll be happy they have a crossing guard to stop the busy traffic. Rooms were decent, A/C more than adequate, 2nd level balcony and adirondack chairs were comfy. Bathroom was fine, plenty of hot water, no tub - shower only, no bugs, lots of storage for toiletries etc. for 2 girls. Don't use the Rose soaps they provide, you'll get little ants.. I brought my own pump soap. Beach, it's lovely. Plenty of chairs, don't dilly dally though. They bus over folks from their sister hotel (Samsara). Security guard Michael takes no BS from vendors so, you'll have to walk up to them to purchase their goods. Food - didn't take the all inclusive. Did eat there but, i found it expensive, and wasn't very good. Side Note - sister hotel Samsara, super quiet, and older, possibly retired folks for the most, an FYI...The bad...The garbage seems to be collected and stored on either side of the entry gate to that famous "Garden Side" aka the other side of the street, and was very very smelly, so much so, we used a cloth to cover our nose. Ughhhhhhh....The ugly....Seems there's a break/entry way in the tin fence next property over on the beach, that allows many vendors (and annoying people) onto the beach. I'm referring to annoying men who would stand on the beach, right on the property line of Legends and were super rude. If you weren't buying his smoke, well, you were intimidated and talked about for the week. So much so that one regular guy kept harassing a foursome of Europeans - pointing them out, yelling at them that only Canadians and Americans were welcomed, and for them to leave. Security couldn't do much... he was on the property line... left a bad taste in my mouth, I, along with my 3 friends left the beach. Lots of arguing between security and dude.... I usually stay further up the beach, towards Drifter's bar and don't usually have this kind of problem.. Overall, I'd stay again, beach side... but would consider someplace further up the beach..
I would not recommend this (Hotel) it is not a resort. Very noisy the beeping from the cars and the loud trucks and motorcycles go all night long. No fridge and no ice maker on the hole property you have to go to the bar every time to get ice. They come and get towels in the morning then bring them back late in the day you have no towels during the day. No beach or pool towels either. The pools are very cold nobody was swimming. Beach area very limited you have to be out there by 6 to get a chair. The beds are rock hard. Had to get a permanent plunger for the toilet. Hot water very hard to control. There is a big dumpster on each side of the entrance very smelly from all the street venders cooking their jerk chicken. The staff was very nice and helpful and Negril is a very nice place to stay, just not here.
This hotel is split between beachside and across the road garden side. We stayed beachside in beach front room. Room was basic but comfortable - I think others have mentioned towel quality in room, well they are not the best but they do the job. Room has no safe, refrigerator, or shampoo/conditioner. Beds were comfortable. Room was cleaned daily. We stay all-inclusive - this is not the same type of all inclusive you might imagine at a big resort. A basic selection for breakfast, lunch, dinner - all well cooked but I think best description is home cooking on a larger scale. Drinks were included and they were fine - local rum being my favorite. The beach is right outside the dining area - beach beds are supplied, no beach towels though so i recommend bringing your own. Ocean is right there too just a few steps away. Of course the beach and water was incredible and well worth going to. Also you get to use their sister hotel - Samsara Cliff resort - a free shuttle for the 10 minute or so drive daily - well worth a visit to see the cliffs. Same sort of food which you have access to along with drinks. Across the street from the Legends hotel is Times Square mall - a collection of 10 or so various tourist type shops - it's worth going over there to break up the day. Just down the street are a couple of mini-markets if you need anything. About 3/4 of a mile down the street towards the town of Negril is a market place selling lots of tourist stuff, most seems to be homemade and worthwhile browsing. You can also get there by walking down the beach and go off the beach before you get to the wall by the river.
