Honeymoon at Legends/Samsara Resort

We had a fabulous time at both resorts, Legends and Samsara. The rooms were quant and kept clean. The staff was friendly, especially Kenrick. You could tell everyone enjoyed working with him and the guest loved Kenrick. He was always very friendly and shared some good stories with us. We'd like to see more "real" Jamaican food served at the restaurant. The food was good not great, the salads, veggies and fruit were the best. The resort needs to offer guest free non-motorized water sports, kayaks, paddle boards.,

Great resort, but remember: this is a three star!!

This resort is really great, but just remember that it is a three-star resort. There was so much I liked about it and I would recommend it, but I think that it is important to be aware of some things before booking.Things That are Great:- The staff at this resort were amazing!! Everyone was so nice and so attentive to guests’ needs. The cleaners, the servers, the maintenance staff, and the front desk staff were just so pleasant and so helpful. They really worked as a team to make sure we were taken care of. Everyone gave us good advice on how to get places safely and quickly - The beach at this resort is BEAUTIFUL. It is all white sands and blue water, and so relaxing. The resort has chairs set up for perfect viewing. Local people walk by selling jewellery, CDs, fruit, food, and excursions. No one can “own” the beach, so people are allowed to walk along, but the Security at the resort does a great job of moving them along if they start annoying people. - We travelled in September, so the resort was not crowded. Not sure what it is like the rest of the year, but September was great. The dining area and beach were never crowded, which is wonderful. Most of the clientele here are couples and young adults, but not the rowdy kind.- The beds were warm, comfortable, and clean. The rooms have air conditioning units and ceiling fans, so being comfortable is easy. - We arrived very late (around 10pm), and missed the dining hall hours. The resort was so thoughtful and provided us a little snack for the night. We were allowed to check-in the next morning. - Besides one ant on the first day, I did not see any bugs in our room. I could not believe how clean the room was and how few bugs were around the resort. Maybe it was the time of year, but that was really nice. Things That I Wished were Different: - The front desk is not staffed 24 hours. I think they close around 10pm and open around 8am. This might be worrying for some people, so I thought I would just mention it. There is a security guard who works overnight. - There is very poor lighting in the rooms and dining area. I hate wasting energy, but we had to keep all of the room lights on in the evenings, just to be able to see. The dining hall is lit even poorly. By the end, we decided to sit under a light, just to see what we were eating. - The shower in the room was horrible. It was like a game, trying to figure out how to adjust the temperature of the water. There was no moderate temperature, just different ways to fiddle with the taps. You have to move between scalding and freezing, and try to find a bearable temperature. There is also no water pressure, which for some people is really important. - There was not a lot of variety, in terms of food. It was not the same thing every day, but there were so repetitions. Personally, I would like to have tried more Jamaican food. The food itself tasted really good, but I wish there was more variety. - Towards the end of breakfast, there was no juice. Because this is a smaller resort, it seems like the amount of food is finite. It is good there is no wastage and they are conscious about spending, but I really wanted juice that day and was sad it was gone  - The staff initially forgot to give us towels, so we have to ask for some. They were prompt in giving them to us BUT we only got one set of towels. Most resorts give beach towels and bath towels, but not here. - There are two sections in the resort; they are divided by a road. On one side of the resort is the dining hall, reception, a pool, the beach, and rooms. On the other side, there are rooms and a pool. There is a guard to help you stop traffic and cross the street, but you have to be very careful because not every car stops and they drive VERY fast. There was one guard who was very attentive (he was there when we landed in the evening, on September 11) and helpful, but another guard only helped us sometimes, as he was looking at his phone for a lot of the time. We had to cross on our own, which again, was dangerous. Things to Note:- There are cats wandering around the resort, especially at night. Personally, I am more of a dog person, so the cats were a pain. They especially came to the dining hall, at dinner time. I guess they are hungry, but I still did not like it. From what I hear, this is pretty common everywhere in Jamaica. - I did not realise this, but marijuana is not legal in Jamaica (possessing, selling, etc.). You would not know that, considering how many people offered to sell us some, and how openly people smoke outside. If you do want to smoke pot, just make sure it is from someone who doesn’t add anything to it and isn’t sketchy. - The sun in Jamaica is very different from the sun at home (for us, that is Toronto). An hour in the sun in Jamaica is not like an hour in the sun here; you can get sunburned VERY quickly. Please put on sunscreen, and keep reapplying. It is easier to get burned when you are in salt water.- As a personal preference, I wear slippers in the shower when I stay in tropical countries (never know what’s gonna crawl up the drain).

Great vacation! If you expect the Hilton, go to the Hilton!!

I have read countless reviews before and after going to legends. It's always hard to know what to believe when you read them because every person's opinion is based on so many different factors. With that being said, you can rest assured that my review is honest and with reasonable expectations. By reasonable I mean I'm considering the price I paid for what I got. I was taught when I was younger that if it seems too good to be true it usually is. So if you think that you can pay less than $1000 per person for a week at a resort in Negril and get a five-star resort, then you were going to be seriously let down! But if you know that when you pay for a bargain and you expect a bargain then you will be very very happy with what you paid for! First off, this is a hotel not a resort. The rooms are exceptionally clean and kept up with every day. They are nice sized. The beds are not pillow-top and kinda hard but it was good for me because it actually made my backache go away! The bathroom is large. The towels are not giant and fluffy and pure white like you would expect at a five-star hotel. Instead they are normal, good sized, CLEAN towels. Obviously the towels at a hotel have been used lots of times before you so in my opinion any not stuck up person would know that they should expect "used" towels! The shower heads are pretty crappy honestly.....lol.....they go from hot to cold and spray sometimes in all different directions. Oh well! It happens sometimes. For the price you pay per night, deal with it! The doors don't close all the way unless u lock it, the keys sometimes don't go in the lock easily. There are a few random mosquitos that end up buzzing around your room but again, deal with it. They are minor inconveniences! If you are too prissy to deal with those things then go elsewhere. The front porch is nice and we enjoyed sitting out there quite a bit talking with the staff.The beach is absolutely stunning! We never had a problem getting chairs for all five of us. I did go out and put towels down around 9 am everyday. There are people on the beach that try to sell you stuff. If you are firm and say no thank you, they move along. If they can tell u are wishy washy then they might bug you a bit. My husband struggled with saying no but me and my three teenage daughters had no issues. If you happen to have any problems, Michael the security guy on the beach steps right in and handles it for you! The water is crystal clear, warm, and mostly calm. We did have some waves on a few windy days but nothing outrageous. I ended up buying waterproof lanyards so we could take ours phones and money into the water instead of leaving them at the chairs but honestly it wasn't necessary. I never felt insecure leaving my bag closed next to my chair. Please buy fruit from the lady that carries the fruit basket on her head. She goes by the name "mama fruit"! She is one of the sweetest ladies I have ever met. Taking a stroll down the beach will definitely get you a lot of people asking you to buy their stuff. Again, a firm no thank you, very little eye contact and they will leave you alone.The food and drinks at the restaurant were good. We opted to not do the all inclusive because my kids can be picky and we wanted to try out local restaurants. We did order off the menu a few times and all the food was delicious and reasonably priced. The drinks in my opinion were a bit pricy for the size that you got but not too bad. I'm pretty sure they were four dollars each for a small plastic cup. You can rent a refrigerator for your room and then get some liquor from the local market or even bring some from home. I also packed a lot of snacks and breakfast items like granola bars and pop tarts and fruit cups. That saved us money on eating breakfast.One of the most important things that made our stay so amazing was the staff. We actually formed friendships with these people. Because it was so small the staff is able to get to know the guests that are staying there. And they truly want to! Kenrick in the bar area, Giavonni, all the girls, Donovan the crossing guard, Omar the driver, Lenard the groundskeeper. The list goes on and on! They are some of the nicest, most awesome people I have ever met!! Definitely take the time to talk to them and get to know them. We also spent two days taking the shuttle to the sister resort. It was also very nice! The chairs were a bit outdated but perfectly acceptable. The view is amazing and it is so calm and quiet. My kids did jump off the cliffs and loved it! Not really my thing so I just watched. The pool was also nice. We went to a little market across the street and we were able to get some snacks snd drinks. I brought a small collapsible cooler and got done I've from the bar and it was perfect for the day. I typically like to travel to different places all the time to experience different things. It is honestly not going to be easy the next time we plan a vacation because we all feel like we want to go back to Legends and see all of our friends!! It was an amazing trip! Terrible

I would never recommend this resort to anyone. The only good thing about it, is the lovely beach next to it. This is a rundown motel by the beach. They are many other reasonable price nice hotel Along the beach strip that I enquire about when I found out about the slump my travel agent book me for which they refused to refund back my money. The Bar Close at 10pm which was very upsetting & ridiculous. People go on holiday to have a drink & relax, not to go bed so early like school children or pensioners in their 80"s or 90" . The price for their miniature cocktails is a ripoff, you better off get some drinks/ alcohol in the local shop or supermarket & have in the room. The sea view room is like your sitting in a grave waiting for it to be sealed. It's a bar rooftop view. Their dirty brown spotty towels make you wanna be sick, how can the owner expect someone to dry themselves off with those filthy towels, they should put them outside to wipe feet or puppies to lie on. I see absolutely no reason to ever return to that resort ever again in my life, the only thing that keep me from crying so much was the friendly staffs , I've paid so much money for my vacation, it wasn't worth it for that slump hotel. All the other guests that I spoke to while I was there had the same feeling & experience I had, the dirty filthy towels that they wait for the entire day to be left in their room & no drinks after 10pm & their list just goes on. This hotel needs to be closed down & build over with possible new owners.

Back to the Sixties!

There's lots to like here. It did feel more like a hotel than an actual resort as there were no real services or entertainment, but we knew that going in.Enjoyed the local folks selling patties, lobsters and fruit for sale on the beach. Felt very safe leaving things on our chairs as Michael did a great job taking care of the guests and their belongings. Any aggressive vendors were sent on their way. Rooms were kept clean and the walkways were very tropical. Air conditioning worked well on the ground floor rooms.Some of the dinner offerings were very good but we were disappointed with the fish dishes. We had been looking forward to fresh fish. As well, desserts............... not great.We took the shuttle to Samsara a couple of times. The water was crystal clear and a little cooler than the beach. Easy to get in and out, even if you're not up to jumping off the cliffs. The pizzeria across the road was so hot and it took over an hour to get a vegetable pizza to our table.One suggestion I would make is that the rooms have more than two towels per day. As well, the water temperature in the shower goes from cool to scalding in no time at all. That's dangerous. There was a young lad at the hotel that showed me the burn marks on his arm from the shower.The pool at the beachside could use a couple of umbrellas too, but otherwise fine.I was glad to have booked the beachside as the garden side was a bit of a hike for meals and bar service. Worth the little extra to stay beachside- especially considering crossing the busy road at night.
