An older hotel, renovated in 2015. Lively with a good mix of people. Great food, great bars and great staff. The beachfront Jerk Chicken hut makes a great lunch. Narrow beach with lots of shade where you can walk safely for a mile along the beach. Great snorkeling opportunities nearby in the crystal clear water.
Location: Beachfront, located in Negril, next door to Riu Tropical Bay, 5 min drive from downtown Negril, 1 hr from the airport.
This is our second time at a Riu property. Riu normally runs about middle of the pack with regards to price at an all inclusive. Since you pay a little more you get nice extra's like the stocked mini-fridge in room (beer, soda's, water) as well as the hanging hard liquor bottles which is a nice touch. The food is usually a cut above the lower priced all inclusive's. Food in buffet and the specialty restaurants was good. Similar things daily at buffet, but not hard to mix it up if you wanted to. Room was kept clean and all staff were friendly and helpful which was nice. We were able to find chairs and ample shade on the beach daily. We hung out to the far right of beach as you face the water. Water was nice and perfect for children as there is no wave action. Only issues I had during the week were my desire for soap as they tend not to leave it (we pulled out some we brought), one day with out towels and the mid-week mysterious (your room cards both don't work) which came at a bad time after one of my dives. Had to truck up to lobby with no shoes, wet to get cards reactivated. Two cards on two different people that had been taken care of both stop working at the same time.Wifi in all locations is great as other hotels only have it in lobby which can be a pain, so A+ on the wifi. Overall a good solid all inclusive with a nice beach and friendly staff. Negril seemed a little far out for many excursions, so this is a good hotel if you are looking to hang locally. I wouldn't hesitate to come back.
i have been here 4 other times and after this visit june 2017 i don't think i would go back. our room key had to be reprogrammed every other day. our 2nd day there it was 5 trips to the lobby. each time the lobby acted as if i had done something, key cards are not a new concept to me and i did nothing to deactivate it. it is obviously a door problem. the dinner buffet was bland and the same every night. i don't like jamacian food or seafood which left few choices. the restaurants are now first come first serve only at 6:30 with few tables. the nightly entertainment has not changed in years and is not good. the beach and my morning and afternoon buffet server are the only good things here. if i go to negril again i will try the royalton
I have stayed at this hotel many times over the years and it was better than the last. The entertainment team is awesome. I love the addition of baggo, ladderball and darts. Everyone was so nice. This has one of the nicest beaches I have ever seen.
I'm a native of the island and this was my very first time staying on a resort in Jamaica. I usually stay with family. This resort made me and my cousin feel like criminals in our country. After staying for 3 nights, we were made aware that there were some payment issues with our reservations. Without properly explaining to us what was going on, they demanded whatever money we had left on us after spending almost all our money while we were there. Deactivated our room keys so that we could not get in. Had 2 people escort us to the room to get whatever cash we had and demanded we give them our passports so that we cannot leave. I have never in my entire life felt the way these people made me feel. Never again will I spend a dime on any of these hotels in any country and would never recommend it. If you want to leave your vacation with your dignity still in tact, I advise you not to stay here. I travel the world and its a shame that my own place of birth treated me like this. So embarrassed. No apology was given. The food sucks. My stomach was turning on the entire trip. If you've never had Jamaican food before, this will be a terrible example of it. It's a shame that my first resort experience was so awful.
Our hotel and sea view suite was stunning, people were so friendly, helpful & nothing was too much trouble. Entertainment was great & Entertainment team, day & night did all they could to make our holiday more enjoyable! Food was lovely, my husband is a fussy eater but tried allsorts, even Jerk Chicken which he liked but it didn't like him, although we did eat in the a la carte restaurants, there really wasn't a need as the food in the buffet was just as nice, which is a rarity! All drinks including cocktails are all inclusive and you have a fully stocked bar in your room, with four optics. There is no need to take a hairdryer, iron etc as they are all in the room with free WIFI in all areas. We would recommend this hotel & holiday to anyone & everyone, so much so we were only home less than a week & have booked again for early next year!
