An older hotel, renovated in 2015. Lively with a good mix of people. Great food, great bars and great staff. The beachfront Jerk Chicken hut makes a great lunch. Narrow beach with lots of shade where you can walk safely for a mile along the beach. Great snorkeling opportunities nearby in the crystal clear water.
Location: Beachfront, located in Negril, next door to Riu Tropical Bay, 5 min drive from downtown Negril, 1 hr from the airport.
As first time visitors to Jamaica we had no idea what to expect. After a 2hr drive from Montego Bay arrived at resort. Was greeted by a front desk person named Sasha.Very accommodating and professional.Had booked an ocean view suite but was extremely surprised to be upgraded to an ocean front suite. As a Riu class member this upgrade made our stay so much better. The hotel and grounds are well maintained but due for an upgrade. As mentioned the local staff was what gave you the impression you were in Jamaica.Beach and sunsets were definitely highlights as well as the jerk chicken shack near beach. On the negative side it was confusing to watch people sneaking out early morning to claim their big prize a lounge chair and lay towels down reserving for full day.You would think that at a hotel where rates are in the $500 per day range that this nonsense would be non existent. This issue has been mentioned many times and in my opinion just poor management that cannot even supply enough lounge chairs for high paying guests.Overall it was the employees that contributed the most enjoyment to this trip.
We stayed at RUI Palace Negril on March 18th to 23rd. It was to short of vacation. Next time we plan to stay longer. The workers are very polite. Always working hard. Always seeing maintenance going on. It's getting painted & the grounds are always getting taking care of. They kept are room cleaned & drinks stocked up daily ( beer, water, pop & coffee). Food was excellent. We always ate at the buffet. Very good selection. They have Jeri chicken for lunch at the beach, excellent. Entertainment nightly. Awesome beach. Beautiful sand & great for swimming. The best drink I think is called Bob Marley. Very cool looking drink. Very refreshing. We been to both the the RUI's in Negril very beautiful. Very relaxing for sure. We'll always stay at RUI again. Not soon enough. Sincerely, Melissa.
Hotel is nice, but definitely should be considered "average" in quality. The staff is extremely friendly, courteous, and everyone always has a smile on their face. Food at the resort is average, at best. I strongly caution anyone who hopes for a good steak to stay far away from their steakhouse. It was the worst food of the whole trip; the steaks were paper thin and everything was cooked well done, despite requesting medium rare . The food at their buffet is average, nothing to write home about. Breakfast seems to be their strong suit, from good fresh fruits to lots of food options, such as a full English, as well as bagels and cream cheese. Evening entertainment is fun, but definitely not anything upscale. I will say that much of the resort's entertainment is unsuitable for children, and it was very disconcerting to see the number of young children attend the evening programs, which were definitely geared toward adults. The daily pool party was boring after the first couple of days. Speaking of the pool...it could use a little better cleaning, especially with the number of drinks spilled into it daily. It never looked very clean. The beach was peaceful, except for the ganja guy who came by multiple times each day, as well as the cigaretts guy, who called out all day long. Neither gave us any trouble once we said no thank you to them. The water is very calm, and while it does have a lot of sea grass (as does the beach), it's not that big of a deal. The "no see ums" however, are awful, so I highly recommend staying off the sand early mornings and early evenings. We all returned home with tons of little gnat-like bites on our legs from taking sunset photos and sunrise walks on the beach (they were worth it though). That was our own fault though, as none of used any insect repellent, which was recommended. To summarize, if I ever go back, I will try to stay at another resort whose quality and amenities are closer in value to the price of the stay, as this trip was definitely overpriced for what we received.
Although a little dated, the room was so clean, and staff so friendly! The food was so very good and presentation always beautiful...the morning omelet maker knew you and your likes after one visit...incredible...the staff just the best i have experienced in all my travels.
Leaving tomorrow :( and I just want to say I loved my vacation. The staff was super friendly and considerate. A big shout out to Easy, Happy Feet, Juicy J, King, Sweetie, Tyson, and all the fantastic, super talented entertainment staff. Shows were always incredible. Jamaican's are ALL super friendly. Shout out to all the chefs, wait staff, bartenders, etc. Food was honestly really good. Hotel itself a little outdated but clean so can't complain. Beach was fantastic and calm.
