An older hotel, renovated in 2015. Lively with a good mix of people. Great food, great bars and great staff. The beachfront Jerk Chicken hut makes a great lunch. Narrow beach with lots of shade where you can walk safely for a mile along the beach. Great snorkeling opportunities nearby in the crystal clear water.
Location: Beachfront, located in Negril, next door to Riu Tropical Bay, 5 min drive from downtown Negril, 1 hr from the airport.
we stayed there two years ago the food and staff were excellent and the room was over looking the ocean just beautyful i would highly recommend.the water was christal clear you could see i fish coming from a mile away you can also take a long walk down the beach and have lunch at there regular RUI hotel since you are staying at the palace
Well the stay here started off pretty nice until day 3. AC was never cold in the #6 villa but it was doable since we had the ceiling fan on. Day 3 we decided to say something about the AC to see if maybe we can get it adjusted a bit. We went out to dinner (oh and I'll explain the dinner situation as well) and we came back to the room and the AC was warmer then before. I called the front desk and asked why our room is even warmer and now we have the added bonus of a sewer smell. He says "oh we have been having a problem with the AC". At that point we asked for a room change, so here we are changing rooms at midnight. Staying here we got friendly with some of the staff and they even said after all of this Villa #6 is a nightmare and people want out of that building all the time because of the sewer smell. Now this is the slow time so now things are starting to make sense why there is nobody staying on the first level.... So now the food situation, in the past Riu hotels had a reservation seating policy. Not now it's a first come first serve basis. So if your used to eating the early bird special you will have no problem leaving the beach early and standing in line at 6 o'clock. However if you like to enjoy the day and like to eat at 6:30-7:00 o'clock or later you will be turned away because with the new policy and you will be eating in the buffet. There are 4 sit down restaurants on site but only 2 are open per night. The only reason I gave this a 2 star is because the beach here is beautiful and the staff is nice but the accommodation are horrible if your used to 4 or 5 star rating as advertised.
Asked for upgrade to sea view on arrival and this was no problem as hotel was not full. Spent mornings by the beach and afternoons by the pool. The hotel is a bit tired and is needing done up, especially the rooms, but rooms spacious and cleaned twice daily and the minibar topped with the juice and water daily. Hope when they do it up they retain the character of the place.Italian - was just okay, nothing special. Steakhouse - steak was amazing. Buffet - varied with lots of specialities, did run out when exceptionally busy but people need to learn to be patient for 5 mins and everything was freshly topped up. Crystal - food was amazing !!!What makes the place is the staff - the entertainment crew were the most hardworking friendly bunch I have met anywhere, they should be well valued by management. Sweety, Happy Feet, Popcorn, OJ, Tiny and Candy as well as all the dancers - amazing shows. Thanks especially to Candy for the nightly game of Uno, you made one little girl very happy xRestaurant & bar staff were equally as good, with special thanks to Powell and Capel.Definitely recommend this hotel.
We went as a group of 5 people. from the montego bay airport to our hotel, the ride was suppose to be 1.5 hrs but ended up being 2.5 hrs, since one of the bus tire blew. The driver couldn't find any place to fix the tire, which was upsetting and tiring. However, he took us safely to the resort. there was no 24hrs food service or snack service and the 24hrs room service was limited, not much options. food was delicious and people were so nice. a la carte restaurants werent that bad. we enjoyed the Italian and the steak house. We would for sure go back. the water was clean and clear. entertainment team was so good. There was no dance club or night life but they had daily entertainment from 9 to 10.30pm every night.
Stayed here for a wedding from 10/14-10/17. Upon arrival I was skeptical. Check in was quick but not what I am accustom to. You are greeted with rum punch in a very cold glass which was nice. However check in was unorganized. The couple ahead of us was at the wrong location(they have a sister hotel about a mile up, I'll get to that later) and they made the couple take a taxi there. Completely turned me off. Then we get to the room and it's NOTHING like what's on the Internet. I unpacked 2 shirts and couldn't take it. I went back to the front desk and asked for our room to be changed and the Manager was nice enough to change it. The new room was slightly nicer with a pool view. The rooms are very dated and clamy. The bathroom was tiny and when i layed on the pillow my head fell right back into the mattress. We got there around lunch time which is 12-5. The food was mediocre and I don't understand why resorts make food I can get in my own kitchen. When I travel I like to enjoy the food of the island. the jerk spot was grilled chicken on the grill with a horrible heavy sauce. It was not good. The buffet was basic; pizza, fries, burgers, pork chops, veggies, chicken breast, etc. The drinks were water "OK" and there is a fully stocked bar in every room. The buffet the 3rd night was a COMPLETE DISASTER. Dinner starts at 6:30, my husband and I and the kids got there at 6:41 and the food was GONE. I was extremely annoyed as well as other guest. We sat around to wait for them to bring out more food but the food would go as soon as it hit the buffet. I stuffed myself with mash potatoes and gravy that night and went to bed HANGRY.(hungry and angry) Keep in mind this is the higher end of the 2 hotels. I was here for a wedding but would never personally chose this resort. The wedding was located at the RIU down the street which has been COMPLETELY renovated and is what you see online. However, I didn't like the set up. It was "resort style" accommodations. Rick's Cafe and Margaritaville are a very short cab ride away and the cab rides are VERY INEXPENSIVE. THE BEST THING about this resort is the staff. EVERYONE was friendly and always smiling and very warm. Even the guest. . . I met people from all over my kids enjoyed the pool. NOTE TO MANAGEMENT: Renovate this resort as soon as possible and change the me menu.
