An older hotel, renovated in 2015. Lively with a good mix of people. Great food, great bars and great staff. The beachfront Jerk Chicken hut makes a great lunch. Narrow beach with lots of shade where you can walk safely for a mile along the beach. Great snorkeling opportunities nearby in the crystal clear water.
Location: Beachfront, located in Negril, next door to Riu Tropical Bay, 5 min drive from downtown Negril, 1 hr from the airport.
Luv negril more than my time in St Lucia , my and my hubby booked our stay January of this year and got a very good deal with expedia the only thing we booked separately was our private transfers and tours these were booked with TCJ Tours very friendly team you can trust them . The resort was perfect getaway for me but next time we will book in April these hurricanes can be a big let down . The beach is beautiful if it was hedo i would have made love there . The staff were very hip and had me singing to all the local songs at the bar , the nightly entertainment was great and we had allot of fun. The rooms were great i met other folks from Canada there i cant say we didnt buddy up and rock the city. Jamaica has it all cant wait to come back next year.
Stayed 9/10/17-9/15/17. This is our 5th RIU resort and our first stay with a toddler. We choose to stay at RIU palaces because of the great service, food, and amenities. Though we had a good time I have to to say this was probably the worst RIU we have experienced. Pros: Staff-the majority of the staff were exceptional! They were friendly, and accommodating. Food: 4 specialty restaurants. Steakhouse, Italian, Japenase, and Krystal fusion. We had the steakhouse and Italian and were both phenomenal. The jerk shack for lunch was amazing The Negirl buffet was so so- but certainly food wasn't made with small children in mind. Cons: As mentioned in many other posts the resort is outdated. At one time it appeared this was a very nice resort but it is in need of some repairs. We had an oceanfront room, my only complaint is the two beds pushed together. If you got in the middle it separated and you fell through the cracks, and the sheets were full size not king so the bed had two separate sheets on it. Entertainment: This resort offers a "RIULAND" for kids. We never saw any activities take place, I inquired at the front desk where we needed to go, and we were told those take place at the resort down the street ( about a mile) and In no way would I walk that far with a 3 year old. I also asked one of the entertainment team members about child activities, she told me should would come get my daughter when they started, we never saw her. The kiddie pool was an absolute joke, no bigger than a hottub and often unclean. My 3 year old was definitely lacking for some entertainment and at times got bored. Nightly entertainment in the past RIU resorts had some sort of kid program at 8 and then the show at 9pm. The shows didn't start until 9:30pm which for a small child is very late, and there was no nightly program for kids. The shows were less than mediocre from other experiences we have had. Pools: Only 2 pools and they were often crowded, and appeared very dirty! At all other RIU palaces we have had people come take drink orders and bring drinks to your lounge chair. Never saw the first person ask, only someone to come pick up cups and they were usually rude about it. Beach: Granted hurricane Irma was making landfall during our trip, the water wasn't very clear and a lot of seaweed and trash had washed up on the beach, by our last day they had cleared most of the seaweed up. The Scuba Caribe had paddle boards, and boats, we were told that due to the seawood it was closed and to come back the next day they were open from 9-4:30. We came back shortly after 4pm when we saw someone else out there on the boat and we were told that their manager called and told them to close up early. Which I believe is a complete lie, but whatever, yet another thing my small child didn't get to enjoy at this resort. I liked the fact this was a smaller resort due to having a small child, but all in all I was more than disappointed when comparing this resort to other RIUs we have stayed at. Upon checking out I asked the gentleman about ensuring my points has been added to my RIU card, he was more than rude about it and told me I had already been checked out and made it a point to make it known that he was frustrated. I asked upon checkin and the lady told me the points would be added at checkout which is why I asked. I know RIU has opened several "Adults Only" resorts, I hope in the future they can cater more to families for their non Adult Only resorts.
The best thing about this hotel is the staff. I stayed at this hotel from 8/30/17-96/17. First things first...the room. Be careful when you book your at ANY RIU. A "junior suite" is a room with a King bed or two doubles, a small sofa, table with two chairs and a balcony. If you want a "suite", this has a King bed or two doubles, a step down area with a small sofa, table and two chairs then a balcony. The pictures are poor and I thought a junior suite had the step down area which is what I purchased in Ochos Rios a few years back. At the RIU Tropical Bay, the junior suite is a small room without the step down area. Call to ensure you are getting what you want. They would not change my room without paying additional fees. The property is 17 years old and it shows! Needs complete updates throughout the property. The bathroom has an old step in tub/shower combo that is very high. The upholstery of the bed foundation was coming apart. The food is the same EVERY day. they did have a theme night...Mexican...but you get the same meals repeatedly. During lunch, if you are on the beach try the jerk chicken on the grill. The Chef's name is Jolly. He was the nicest guy in the resort. Drinks are very good. Bar staff is very friendly. Spa was very good too. The beach is gorgeous. Lots of people trying to sell things. The pool is small. Maybe during renovations they will expand the pool. Overall this hotel is a 3. If it weren't for the staff it would be a 2.
Where do I begin? My wife and I recently went to the Hotel Riu Palace Tropical Bay for our honeymoon. We stayed from 8/26 - 9/1. We would have stayed forever if we could have! Please disregard any negative reviews you read. Certain reviews made us question our choice before leaving for the trip. We would have been so disappointing had we stayed anywhere else. This hotel is beyond wonderful. Between the incredible staff, breathtaking beach, perfect balcony views, great food and impeccable service, we could not have asked for more. Immediately upon arrival, we were congratulated on our honeymoon, given a complimentary rum drink and given our room information. We stayed in 3310. The room faced the ocean and there was a perfect break in the trees for us to view the sunrise and sunset along with the whole beach. When we entered the room, we were comforted by how cool it was. A/C worked great! The room was absolutely spotless and smelled very clean. Our mini fridge was stocked to the brim with red stripe beer, water, soda, etc... The staff also left us a bottle of champagne with a beautiful note congratulating us. It was so kind. We spent our week enjoying the buffet (so many choices), the restaurants (just get there in line at 6:30 or 7:30 - you'll be fine!), the stunning beach with PLENTY of chairs and shade, the pool bar (pool was clean - there was a little film on the water towards the end of the day, but people are covered in oil and sunblock - to be expected!), the local sites (cabs are safe and so easy to book - all prices given up front) and most importantly, the staff. They 100% made our trip. SHOUT OUT to Jermaine (you are an amazing human, never change), Samuel (thank you for all your kindness), Owen, Andre, Natherine, Kamal and Endera, just to name a few. Everyone was so kind, but the 7 of you made our stay perfect. You are all talented and exceptional at what you do. Thank you for everything. Tip these folks - they deserve it and appreciate it.All in all, it was a perfect stay and we are already planning our next trip there. I want to mention we are a gay married couple, and the staff made us feel so welcomed. We learned the true meaning of "one love". Thank you Riu Tropical Palace Tropical Bay, we cannot thank you all enough! Irie, mon!PS. I strongly recommend booking the private candlelit dinner on the beach. That was how we celebrated our last evening and it was amazing. Thank you to Owen for the impeccable service.
Before me and my husband hot married we stayed at several hotels in the area we liked. This was such a outstanding hotel, the dining was lovely. Didn't feel like a cattle market like some of the other Riu hotels. A very different feel. Good cocktails and a lovely beach. The suite had a strange smell we didn't like very much
