An older hotel, renovated in 2015. Lively with a good mix of people. Great food, great bars and great staff. The beachfront Jerk Chicken hut makes a great lunch. Narrow beach with lots of shade where you can walk safely for a mile along the beach. Great snorkeling opportunities nearby in the crystal clear water.
Location: Beachfront, located in Negril, next door to Riu Tropical Bay, 5 min drive from downtown Negril, 1 hr from the airport.
For someone that usually complains (Guilty) I can safely say this was a holiday of a lifetime and would highly recommend. My family came here two years ago and recommended to me and my husband and I am so glad I came, I will recommend to my friends and hope to return again one day.Sadly our first week rained a lot but obviously that cannot be helped and is needed for beautiful vegetation and greenery Jamaica has (Just be cautious if you go in May) however it was still hot and our 2nd week was hot hot hot.The only negative I can say is the reception 8 helpful to start with, we were told we had been upgraded but our original room was at the end of the resort and our view was of the scuba hut, we asked to move which was a bit of a hassle but in the end our room was amazing. Perfect location to the restaurant and beach and the view was incredible of the beach.RoomRoom was nice, big tv and nice shower and balcony. Beds are really comfortable especially for my husband who has back problems, only complaint was that it says king size bed but it's a couple of beds shoved together... Aircon is good in the room (and a god send), there's a safe that's free to use and a fridge (Bit temperamental). Rooms were kept clean with fresh towels but they didn't change our bedsheets or frequently replace soap etc or make any cute animals out of towels (that most 5* places do)... Really strong wifi connection too!FoodI love my food and breakfast and lunch was amazing!! Lots of variety of hot and cold with fresh fruit. Omlette and pancake station at breakfast was amazing!! Lunch - the jerk hut was amazing. The older gentlemen cooked the chicken amazingly but when the younger man cooked it, it wasn't as tasty. The buffet lunch was really good with lots of variety of american foods and jamaican and pastas/salad etc. Dinner wasn't as good as breakfast and lunch being a little tedious and not as much variety but still good. There are a la carte restaurants and the Italian was our favourite (we went twice) get the rack of lamb! The Japanese and steakhouse was a little disappointing, service and food was good but I just expected more. Didn't go to the fusion restaurant so cannot comment. Sadly I was unable to eat lobster at the steak place and fusion because by law they cannot capture lobster in May which was not their fault but I was disappointed.Their desserts aren't great, chocolate isn't their strong point!DrinksMe and my partner aren't big drinkers but they had good variety and at night the drinks are stronger than during the day. The strawberry slush was a personal fave and my husband loved the fruit punch. BeachThe beach is amazing! Kept so clean, beautiful and calm. The sand, trees and sea was all stunning! There are lox2als who sell their wares but they stay by the shore for secuirty reasons and do try to get your attention but if you tell them no they will leave you alone or are friendly if you approach them.PoolOnly went to the pool once as I'm more of a beach person but it was really nice and clean and lively. There's a swim up bar which is really cool. On our second week it got a bit busy and lively which was a fun atmosphere if you like that sort of thing but I prefer the calm beach.ServiceThe service was incredible!!! Really makes a difference with how friendly, helpful and funny staff are. The bar staff were nice but the waiters were so great. Shout out to Damon at breakfast and Tavere at the lunch buffet who were so attentive and genuine.Entertainment I hate cheesy entertainement but there was none of that here! The entertainment was the best I've seen! So funny, enthusiastic and genuinely talented the dancers, shows and pre shows with the audience were hilarious and a hit. Only disappointment was there was a Michael Jackson jackson night in the programme but did not happen and we were really looking forward to it. Special shout out to happy feet and easy as they were fantastic. Africa and rock show were awesome! The activities during the day was always buzzing and great with games on the beach if you wanted to participate.Minimal negativesIf I had to be picky, the only thing I'd say is you can't make reservations at the a la carte restaurants. We had no issues going in but we had to be sure to be outside for 6.10pm to ensure we ate at 6.30pm which is when the doors opened but would be been better to just have a reservation time, we saw people get turned away at 7pm. Also, the beach does not bave u9mbrellws or huts for shade which is a bit strange when you need some shade but that's the only constructive feedback I can think of.Games roomThere isn't a games room but more like an arcade room but a pool or table tennis would have been ideal especially when it rained and there was nothing to do.Gift shopThere is a really good gift shop that are reasonable prices and offer good souvenirs, there is a one dollar tax when you purchase. But there's also huts further down the beach where you can buy from locals. They do hassle you but you can haggle and buy some good gifts and shirts for a good price. I also got my hair braided which looked great!SpaWe got a couples spa massage which was fantastic and so relaxing even if it was pricey.ExcursionsThe excursions we did was fantastic. The dolphins at dolphin cove was AMAZING and a dream come true, we did the platinum package where they push our feet with their nose and we fly and swim and danced with them and photos were included, the dolphins are looked after and in the ocean not a pool. There are also sting rays, segways and a sand buggy and lunch of jerk chicken is included - yea mon! We did a trip to ys falls and black river which was incredible and a different side to Jamaica. Jumping into the waterfall was adventurous a huge adrenaline rush but there's also a relaxing pool. The crocodiles and jungle on the black river was wonderul.Ricks cafe is a must! Really touristy and buzzin vibe with people jumping off cliffs, you can do as well but we just watched and took photos. Live music was great and we saw a beautiful and romantic sunset there which is a must.We also took a trip to times Square shopping mall which has 12 souvenir shops (tax free) where they do harrass you a bit but you can haggle and we got some great gifts - went for 2 hours and it was enough. Definitely go here instead of buying at the airport as things are better and cheaper. Overall this was our dream holiday. Everything was incredible and we hope to return again one day! Ignore the really negative comments - don't let them put you off! This hotel is a bit more calm with only a few kids about. The riu club hotel which you can walk and eat at (as you have a riu palace wrist band) is more lively with a different crowd if you like that...
My husband and I stayed at the RIU Tropical Bay from May 20 to May 27. We usually take one to two vacations per year during summer or March break, but this was our first trip outside of Canada without the kids. We were both looking for a break from our everyday hectic routine and needed some time to relax. The hotel had some positives, but these were outnumbered by the negatives. Positives: Beautiful beach - water was crystal clear, calm waves and no overcrowding.Staff - the majority of the staff were friendly and helpful - the dining staff were amazing at their job - shout out to Mario, Craig and Jacqueline. The bar staff Sherrean and Sashoy were very polite and helpful. Food - overall the food tasted good, selection was a bit repetitive daily.Negatives:Check in staff - the person who checked us in has no concept of customer service. He barely spoke to us - the entire conversation went like this: fill this in and sign here - here is your bracelet wear it all the time, information on the hotel is in this envelope - your room is 6122 - to your left. Room: It took us almost 10 mins to find our room and when we finally went inside it had a moldy, foul smell. We thought maybe it was like that because no one had used the room for a while so we decided to give it a day or two and hoped that the smell would go away. The smell did not go away, in fact it got worse, it started smelling like sewage. As the smell was outside our room as well, my husband and I think that the room is probably located close to the sewage treatment area. By the third night we could not sleep as we felt like our lungs would collapse. I went to the front desk early the next morning to request a change of room. I was told to come back at 9 am. At 9 am I was told to check back after 12 noon. At 2 pm when I went back they tried to tell me that the room they were giving us was not ready so I had to come back again. At that time I told them I would take whatever was available because I did not want to spend one more minute in room 6122. They gave us a room on the other side of the resort, which thankfully smelled much better and for the first time we felt like we were in a hotel. The stay would have improved significantly at this point, except that the television was not working. We reported this 3 times and finally when the technician came, he told us that the cable on the entire block was not working and there was nothing that he could do. My husband insisted that we moved again, at which the technician left and said that he would discuss with management getting us a room on a block that had cable, but we never heard back from him nor management. So we spent our entire time without a television.Poor Management:When we were in room 6122, the toilet did not work. We reported it and no one came to look so eventually my husband had to fix it himself. The television would shut down while we were watching it, after three calls to the front desk someone came on day 2 and brought a new set. On top of all this, there was no iron in the room and the safe did not work. When we moved to the second location, much better smell, but no television and the bath tub was the worse we had ever seen in any hotel. The grout around the tub was black and moldy. I had a difficult time getting in for showers. Twice we went to the gym at 8 am and the first time they were no towels and the second time there were no cups for water. The facilities on the exterior of this hotel is immaculate, I wish I was able to experience the same feel and look on the inside - the two rooms that we stayed in were not up to par of a 5 star hotel. In fact, this is the worst hotel experience we have ever had and we travel at least once each year. This was very disappointing to us as we paid over $3, 000 for this vacation package and was looking for relaxation - which we did not experience. I would never stay at this hotel again. Very sad, because we made some good friends with some of the staff.
We are having the BEST time at this resort! The food is great, the staff is so friendly to all of us! We are here for a wedding and just fell in love with the view, the room, the beach! We are already planning another trip here this summer!
This resort has the nicest and largest beach of all the hotels in Bloody Bay! Buffet was good, restaurants okay, drinks flowing friendly staff. The only downside was the Ganga everywhere. Hotel guests smoking Ganga on the property, vendors selling it along the beach. We even witnessed a drug deal at the pool bar with a large exchange of cash for a bag of weed. These dealers were hanging out at the bar for 30 minutes getting drinks from the bartenders and socializing with them while doing their drug deal. You'd think Ganga was legal in Negril! The entertainment was okay. We enjoyed the steel drums the first night but the remaining three nights the entertainment was pretty cheesy. In summary we would absolutely recommend this beautiful resort!
We went here with family for a wedding, was a nice, clean hotel with lots of facilities and great food. The majority of staff were great and very friendly, you do encounter the odd one who is grumpy. It rained on the wedding day, nothing was set up as a contingency, and so our party had to prepare the second option for the wedding ourselves. Great location of the hotel but mosquitoes were in abundance. Not sure if I would return in a hurry. There are better places in the Caribbean. I have to say also, we caught someone stealing from our room when they brought room service, they took some money from us when we were there! Confronted the waiter and retrieved it, but be careful!
