Our Opinion

An older hotel, renovated in 2015. Lively with a good mix of people. Great food, great bars and great staff. The beachfront Jerk Chicken hut makes a great lunch. Narrow beach with lots of shade where you can walk safely for a mile along the beach. Great snorkeling opportunities nearby in the crystal clear water.

Overview
A wonderfully large resort which spills over sunny, tropical beachfront acres, Riu Negril also has plenty of shady palms for beach lovers preferring measured spells of sun worship. True 'pool people' will get a kick out of the submerged stools edging pool perimeters. A small fish 'habitat' protected by RIU at the far end of the beach earns applause for environmental responsibility.

Location: Beachfront, located in Negril, next door to Riu Tropical Bay, 5 min drive from downtown Negril, 1 hr from the airport.

Awesome vacation!

We stayed there May 6 to 13, 2017. Having previously stayed at a different Riu, I have to say that I had pretty high expectations. That being said, my expectations were easily met. The staff at Riu Palace Tropical Bay was absolutely amazing, and they did everything they possibly could to make our stay even more enjoyable. The entertainment staff was just awesome! Kudos to "Easy", "Candy" and the others as they made us laugh all week! The food was great with a very good variety. My only complaint would be the many "vendors" along the beach who constantly bug you to try to sell you stuff, but that has nothing to do with the hotel, and I think it's probably like this everywhere in Jamaica (it was my second time to Jamaica and it was also like that the first time I went. I had stayed in Runaway Bay the first time). I would still definitely recommend and would go back in a heartbeat!

Great escape!

Spent six nights at this resort with college roommates from 35 years ago. Room far exceeded expectations with two sinks in bathroom, shower and tub with excellent water pressure. Room included a loveseat, and really nice furniture with plenty of space for suitcases of three women. Minibar was stocked daily with water, beer, and sodas. Room service provided plenty of towels daily. We ate at three of the five restaurants. The International Buffet was our favorite. Even the most picky eater can find plenty of options at this buffet. I have traveled all over the United States, including NYC, Las Vegas, San Diego, Key West, cruise ships, and other all-inclusives in Mexico. This buffet provided the largest variety of food I have ever seen. The employees make this resort deserving of 5 stars. At least three people are providing service at dinner. Our water glasses were always filled, plated promptly removed, etc. Although tipping is not required, we always tipped at least $1-2 dollars everywhere we went. We observed the employees providing superior service even when people were not tipping. However, it is such a poor island and their income is so low--we actually enjoyed providing tips for the service. The pool is on the small side, however, since this is their slow season, we were always able to find lounge chairs in the pool, beside the pool, or on the beach. The beach is calm and so clear that you can see the bottom out to about 5 or 6 feet deep. We saw large starfish, but nothing else. On our last day another guest suggested we take a bit of bread from breakfast and put in the water to attract the fish--had to head out to the airport--so didn't give this a try. The resort has a small beach in a bay, so it doesn't provide opportunities for walking miles on the beach. We found the beach adequate for our needs. There are "vendors" selling things along the beach just past the watersports area. They all have exactly the same items for sale and I don't believe any of the items are actually made in Jamaica. Some items had partial stickers at the bottom that I'm sure said "Made in China". We used the paddleboats and kayaks. They also have sailboats and I think snorkel gear. Since we didn't see any fish, we didn't snorkel. The nightly entertainment was OK. I have seen better at other all-inclusive resorts, however, we found it interesting enough that we didn't miss a show. What we liked least was the female emcee for the shows. She was quite sarcastic during the preshow, making demeaning comments to audience members. I'm sure she was trying to be funny, but it was not effective. They were painting the hotel while we were there. Sadly the bright pink has been covered with white, making the resort all white. It lost some of its fun Caribbean vibe while we were there. Suggest they add back some color. The employees all wear long pants or skirts with tights at all times. Suggest the resort allow employees to wear long shorts with bare legs--its' too hot for the long pants and tights. We went to Rick's Cafe one night. It's a short 15 minute ride down the road. It was worth the trip. The cost was $20 round trip through JTL. The cost per person for a taxi was $40 round trip. Book excursions with the tour companies in the lobby. I would return to this resort because of the nice rooms, comfortable beds, calm ocean in the bay, outstanding service, and quality of food.

HAD A BLAST!!

We stayed in an Ocean View Deluxe Suite. The staff here were extremely professional, fun and very helpful! The resort guests were so friendly and the resort has great activities and shows each evening, our favorite was the steel band musicians. The resort is all inclusive and has a great selection at the main buffet, food was very delicious for breakfast, lunch and dinner (Room Service breakfast tastes even better than the restaurant). They have several other restaurants on the property as well, they are not included in the all inclusive package. Overall, we very much enjoyed ourselves here.

Absouletly Fabulous

My husband and I stayed between 23rd June -4th July, 2017. This was our first trip to Jamaica and we absolutely loved everything about the Riu Palace Tropical Bay. Our room was upgraded to an ocean view upon arrival, as we were there to celebrate our 30th Wedding Anniversary. We also had a bottle of wine and desserts, left in our room one evening with a card congratulating us on our anniversary, which was a lovely touch. The rooms are very spacious and very clean, although we sometimes had a bit of a mouldy smell, which cleared when the patio doors were opened. The beach is outstanding, plenty of beds to choose from. The staff were all very courteous and friendly they all went out of their way to make our stay a wonderful experience. The food was absolutely fabulous. So much choice. The ladies at breakfast always remembered what we liked. Sorry forgot their names. Twain and Derval really looked after us at lunch. They are specialty restaurants that do not require a reservation and we had no problem getting into them. The Italian and Steak House were the best. It is far from the airport (1.5 hours on a bus) but so worth it. The water was calm and clear. No seaweed and beautiful sand. They have excellent free WiFi everywhere even on some areas of the beach! The entertainment was very good really enjoyed the steel band and the Michael Jackson Tribute. The dancers all worked so hard a big shout out to Megatron and Sunshine, and all the others. I would highly recommend this Hotel to anyone.

Great to be back .....

Back at the Riu for the fifth time. Good times as always and the beach never ceases to amaze me. We were upgraded to an Ocean View in Building 4 - wonderful views and cool breezes. Our only problem was the beds were not tied together (which I found out too late) - so please request this should if you need it. Special shout out to Andre and Ken at the pool bar and Bernadette at the Spa. I am told that the Riu will be updated by next year.
