Our Opinion

An older hotel, renovated in 2015. Lively with a good mix of people. Great food, great bars and great staff. The beachfront Jerk Chicken hut makes a great lunch. Narrow beach with lots of shade where you can walk safely for a mile along the beach. Great snorkeling opportunities nearby in the crystal clear water.

Overview
A wonderfully large resort which spills over sunny, tropical beachfront acres, Riu Negril also has plenty of shady palms for beach lovers preferring measured spells of sun worship. True 'pool people' will get a kick out of the submerged stools edging pool perimeters. A small fish 'habitat' protected by RIU at the far end of the beach earns applause for environmental responsibility.

Location: Beachfront, located in Negril, next door to Riu Tropical Bay, 5 min drive from downtown Negril, 1 hr from the airport.

Honeymoon Stay

My husband and I visited this resort for our honeymoon. I have traveled outside of the country several times, but never to Jamaica. The service here was excellent. The food was good (for being out of the country, I never walked away hungry). The staff was awesome, and the entertainment was phenomenal, DEFINITELY the best part of the trip. We did find it odd that one evening when we went back to the room to get cleaned up for dinner, one of the workers came into our room, asked if we needed anything, and immediately left. Our room had already been cleaned and fridge stocked as it was 7 PM so we found this to be very strange. We were usually at dinner at this time, we had just stayed later in the pool that day, so that didn't fit well with me either. They also offered us an "upgraded room" since it was our honeymoon and after a long day of travel I didn't even realized that was a room we had already paid for to upgrade ourselves, nice gesture but still. The beach was usually nice and clean and the ocean views were gorgeous! We used Funjet to travel and it was nice that they had a rep there to help us book excursions and to answer any questions we had! The beds were also very hard but one of the workers did tell me that they were due to update the whole resort next year! I would probably go back to this resort but just make sure you keep your items put away in bags/safe!

Destination Wedding

DO NOT host your wedding at this resort. The service is AWFUL! We would like to mention a staff member, Romario. He was the ONLY one out of everyone we dealt with that was pleasant. We've been going to Jamaica for 10 years and usually bring 10-20 people with us. This was the ONLY time we had issues. Mold on the pillows. Rooms smelled of mildew.Hustlers constantly bothering you on the beach.Simple requests for the wedding denied. Such as a pot of coffee brought to the bridal party room. We asked for our decorations to be stored until the wedding coordinator arrived and the front desk did not want to accommodate. We had three people who needed wheelchairs, including a child. Only one person got a wheelchair and they told us they were out of them. No coffee pots in the rooms. Restaurant staff rude. The main pool was so cloudy and dirty. Piles of dead flies. Missing reservations. Some waited several hours before they could find the reservation and get them a room. The beach is dirty. There were two fights and no staff broke it up. They watched as other guests intervene. Blood still in the lobby the next day. The front desk could care less and have a condescending tone with everyone. The assistant manager can't be more than 21 and she was completely uninterested in accommodating our handicap guests. We love Jamaica and it's been our second home for our family, this is NOT a good representation of this wonderful country.

Brilliant

Highly recommend this hotel. The staff were friendly and really helpful. A pleasure! The hotel was very clean and the beach was superb! Fantastic choice of food in the buffet restaurant, no one could possibly come away hungry! The speciality restaurants we’re lovely to the point of re visiting several times!!One small note....the transfer time is long and made even more longer by having to wait over one hour before we left the airport!! Maybe getting a taxi would be advisable. Great holiday!!

PLEASE BEWARE....PLEASE READ

The rooms do have a mildew smell, BUT MY NEW ROOM DID NOT SMELL. HOWARD, NICHOLAS, OWEN (POOL BARTENDER), JERMAINE AND DR. C IN THE BUFFET ROOM WERE GREAT... Kedean was the worst bartender I have ever experienced in all my travels. Next, the employees expect a tip for everything they do for you. SO NOT AN ALL INCLUSIVE. TROPICAL TOURS please be aware..... THEY'RE A SCAM. The tour takes you to places they get a kick back from. If you take the DUNNS river tour...do not get any gifts until you get there. Better items than the place they take you. KAREMA AND VICTORIA WERE THE WORST TOUR GUIDES EVERY, I wish I had more room on this review to tell you about these 2..... PLEASE BE AWARE. .... THE TORTUGA TOUR WAS THE BEST PART OF OUR TRIP. I WOULD NEVER GO TO THIS HOTEL AGAIN. Last, but not least if you make changes to your room...please please keep your confirmation/cancellation number. They charged me for a room that was canceled.. I called to provide my cancellation number, but now you cannot talk to a person, you have to email and wait for a response. My response was they received my email.... The only time you can talk to anyone at this hotel is when you book....so don't have any questions. SANDALS WAS GREAT NO TIPPING, a 800 number, and/or you can chat with someone online if you had questions, finally, at Sandals YOU CAN ENJOY YOUR STAY AND SERVICE. BUT THE SAYING YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR IS........TRUE.

Calm Spring Break Location

I stayed at this resort last March for Spring Break with my boyfriend. The beach (water and sand) is beautiful. It is one of the nicer beaches that I have seen. I would say that the beach is the highlight of the resort. The resort is simple, yet functional. The pool is somewhat small for an all-inclusive. I loved being able to get room service, this was a highlight for me considering I drank too much one night and didn't feel like going to dinner. We enjoyed the tubing that was available on sight (reasonable price). There was a security guard that would hang out on the beach, I always felt very safe. I also liked that there was plenty of chairs on the beach. If you are going to Jamaica I would recommend staying in Negril, although the drive from the airport was somewhat far it is worth it. You also should stay at this Riu and not the other Riu in Negril.
