Rooms on the Beach Negril
- What's Included
Had another amazing week at Rooms this February and cannot wait for next year to go back. From the moment we arrived with seemless check in to our departure, our stay was again memory making and fantastic. So many things combine to make this hotel the best in my opinion, the location, the rooms, but the staff are the deciding factor every time. From maintenance to housekeeping to bar tending to beach staff each and every one of the staff make no request seem too much and really are so accommodating. Our rooms were clean, the beds very comfortable and fresh towels and coffee daily were appreciated. The groundskeepers take great pride in the property and it shows. The flowers and shrubbery are beautiful and their dedication and attention to detail shows as you walk through the property. Christopher and the rest of the beach staff keep the beach area pristine, setting up chairs as required and raked and ready upon arising every morning. What a view.......and the beach bar!!!! What an asset to the property. You no longer need to leave the property for cheap beers or dirty bananas! Kelvin will keep you in drinks and entertained the whole time! I have read reviews where water temp was an issue but I have to admit we never had a cold shower or lack of pressure when we were there. Ms. Grant is very personable and manages the property professionally and personably. We are counting the days till we return to our home away from home!
I have stayed at Rondel Village, Nirvana on the Beach, Coco LaPalm, Idle Awhile, Bar B Barn and Hidden Paradise as well. All were good experiences. However for the location, beach and value I would have to give this hotel my highest vote. I asked for a fridge and it was put in my room on arrival for an extra charge but it was worth it. The beach front here is large and not crowded. The best part is you can chose to stay behind the beach wall and then vendors wont approach you.I thought the room was a good size with a nice bathroom. Always had water and air conditioning. Make sure you have dinner at the Rock House, Kuyaba and the Italian Restaurant down the road. There are so many wonderful places to eat in Jamaica and I have never had stomach problems even when eating from street vendors.I have also been to Cuba, Mexico, Barbados and Dominican Republic. I always want to return to Jamaica as my most favourite as I feel it has more to offer. The beach and weather can be beat as well as the food and music.
Although We haven't yet been to rooms Negril , my husband and are are looking forward to our trip the first week of April! One thing that was appealing to us about this spot is the amount of reviews that raved about the great staff. I must say that I have had a few conversations with the gal answering the phone... Kimberly and she has been fantastic to deal with. If she's any indication about what we will experience at Rooms Negril... I can't wait to be there!
We took a 6 person family on vacation here. Overall it was very good, but like with most places there were those things I wished were better. My Wife and I stayed in 1 room, and 4 kids (2 boys 20 and 17, and 2 girls 15 and 11) stayed in the other room. My first disappointment was when we arrived they were not able to get us adjacent rooms. We were actually in two different buildings. Disappointed, sure, but in the end not so bad. Our building was on the back end of the lot, the kids closer up to the beachfront. One warning here for travellers is that the adjacent property on the south side has chickens, and the rooster would get going at 5:30 in the morning. I didn't care for that, but there was nothing the staff could do. (Indeed I kept joking with Sylvester the maintenance guy that I'd bribe him if he could arrange to serve that sucker up with some Jerk sauce). There is also a bar on the north side that was noisy until the wee hours of 1 or 2 am. So if your looking for quiet, you might want ear plugs. We actually liked the steady stream of reggae music. Our room was nice and clean and spacious. Almost too much so - I think it should have had some more furniture in some spots but didn't. A cheap couch would have been nice, or two chairs and a table. Our room only had the 2 beds, a dresser, and a small desk with 1 chair. Same for the kids. We brought in the patio set one night for a family dinner and board games. The rooms do not have fridges, but you can rent one for a few dollars a night. Not really worth it with the beers being as cheap as they were. This resort is in the heart of 7 mile beach, so it is a busy area. Walking up the beach, and/or the road to town is fun and enjoyable. You do get approached by a multitude of vendors hawking almost everything from cooked lobster, to meat patties to ganja to art, to bracelets and boat tours. Jamaicans are friendly, and this is how their economy works. A respectful "no mon" and they leave you alone. Mostly.Breakfast was included, but you only get 1 hard boiled egg in addition to the usual toast, fruit, muffins and cereal. We liked trying different places to eat, including the street vendors. It can get expensive with a bunch of kids, so for a family I think I would return to all inclusive resorts. But my wife and I like sampling food from random places. Red stripes were usually $2USD, sometimes $3. At the airport they are $6. So get your bus driver to stop at a grocery store and get a 6 pack for $7-8.The beach was great, and the weather during our stay was near perfect. One day it rained a bit in the evening, and another day it was quite windy and wavy. This brought up all the junk from the ocean floor which made a mess of the beach. That was our excursion day, so it didn't affect us too much. Resort beach staff disposed of much of it by burying it in the sand. I also got a few bug bites, apparently from sand fleas, which were not good. It affected me but not the family so much, so don't get scared off. Just don't kneel in wet sand near areas of seaweed. There is a small pool, which we go a lot of use out of. One of the staff loaned us some googles for the kids. Good service there. And because Rooms is a smaller resort, the beach are in front wasn't so crowded. We could always get some chairs and a spot in the shade of a tree. And they watch to make sure the "beach vendors" don't come back past the beach wall - which was nice when we wanted a break from saying "no mon" every 5 minutes. Some of the all inclusive places we walked by had guests crammed in like sardines, which made me feel like this was a better choice than some more expensive places..The staff at Rooms is very nice. They made calls to our Air Canada rep for us at the front, and if we had any room issues (one day the AC conked out) they looked into it right away. Sylvester did a great job with anything (except that damned chicken). The ladies at the restaurant were friendly, as were the maids. They checked in to see what we needed a couple of times a day. Try the jerk chicken made on the bbq by the beach bar. Yummy!Overall I loved the area. Its got the feeling of a touristy beach town without all the high end shops. Souvenirs are best purchased from the beach, or from the craft market close to town. They are quite pushy in the craft market, it seems to be lacking customers so the vendors are a bit more needy. This is a great place if you aren't looking for 5 star amenities. The staff are friendly, rooms are clean, beach is great, and hey, you're in Jamaica Mon!
We were very pleased with our visit at this resort. We had a small problem and had to move rooms and the staff was very accommodating and very efficient. We were very happy with the way things were handled. Staff at this resort is awesome! From the front desk to security, to housekeeping to the ladies in the restaurant and bar are without a doubt top notch. Our favorites were Maizie and Thelma in the restaurant. Both are concerned about making their guests feel welcome and happy with their service. Maizie has a smile that is 1000 watts. She lights up the whole place. There was another young lady there too but I have forgotten her name, but she was awesome also. I know some people where unhappy about not getting things they asked for right away, but you need to understand it's Jamaica and things move slower than in the US, it all gets done! Relax it will soon come! Shermaine was a fabulous housekeeper as well as Diana. Security was always attentive and we always felt safe. We have already made plans to return again next year!
