Rooms on the Beach Negril
- What's Included
We were very pleased with our visit at this resort. We had a small problem and had to move rooms and the staff was very accommodating and very efficient. We were very happy with the way things were handled. Staff at this resort is awesome! From the front desk to security, to housekeeping to the ladies in the restaurant and bar are without a doubt top notch. Our favorites were Maizie and Thelma in the restaurant. Both are concerned about making their guests feel welcome and happy with their service. Maizie has a smile that is 1000 watts. She lights up the whole place. There was another young lady there too but I have forgotten her name, but she was awesome also. I know some people where unhappy about not getting things they asked for right away, but you need to understand it's Jamaica and things move slower than in the US, it all gets done! Relax it will soon come! Shermaine was a fabulous housekeeper as well as Diana. Security was always attentive and we always felt safe. We have already made plans to return again next year!
This resort will not disappoint you. Excellent value and great location. This is our fourth visit to Rooms Negril and it won't be our last. The entire staff tried their very best to accommodate us and I must say we never had any issues! Rooms on the Beach continues to improve and this was our best stay ever! Can't wait to return!
Our first visit to Jamaica and Rooms on the Beach on Negril's seven mile beach strip is the perfect place for relaxation and exploring. It offers a basic breakfast package (1 boiled egg, juice, toast, various fruit, cereal, yogurt and muffins). The staff really make this property from a 3 star to a 5 star!! Maizie and all the ladies in the kitchen are very quick to serve you before the 9:30am cut off...although you can pay and order breakfast and lunch at a very reasonable price throughout the day. The life guards are wonderful and made our stay so much more enjoyable THANK YOU Mario,O'Neil and Christopher!! We will be returning February 2018 for a 2nd visit. So I read a lot of the tripadvisor reviews before booking and will comment about our experience. We had hot water and good water pressure and our safe worked fine. Beds and pillows were acceptable. Air conditioner unit does need updating ours worked minimally. Washroom was modern and they have a liquid bath soap dispenser in shower so if you are picky bring your own toileteries. For sleeping bring earplugs to block out the roosters you will hear from across the road...not a big deal but depends on how soundly you sleep. There are some beach vendors but they are VERY respectable and leave you alone if you say no thanks or you can sit behind their property wall. Safe spot from which to explore the seven mile strip.
This is our second visit to Rooms and third or fourth visit to Negril for our mature group of vacationers. We vacation as a group of 6 to 20 to a variety of Caribbean resorts. Negril is one of our favourites.Rooms is a well kept beach resort about 2 km from Negril townsite. Banking machine is sometimes available at Time Square about 0.5 km from Rooms. The staff are great. The lifeguards and maintenance staff do a wonderful job of taking care of the beach and guests. Kitchen wait staff do beach chair side service for lunch only. There is no evening meal service, there are dozens of evening dining services within a block of the hotel. Beach dining is very good but casual and you may need a flashlight.Starting with the rather spartan continental breakfast. If you are a big eater, order off the menu, most plates are $US8. By the way there is a short half meter wall separating the resort from the beach, you can watch and interact with the beach vendors if you chose to or stay back behind the wall for more privacy. Security is present at both the beach and street entrances 24 hours. Our group had a few maintenance issues during the stay. They were quickly resolved if reported to front desk of maintenance staff. Do not rely on housekeeping staff to find and report problems, speak to the front desk. Maintenance staff were very good and quick. The rooms do not have refrigerators but they can be rented if requested. There is a nightclub next door that rocks until 11pm many evenings and as mentioned in previous reviews a very active rooster who can't tell time.Three main reasons I would return to Rooms on the Beach. The beach is spectacular, the the staff is wonderful and the location in the heart of 7 mile beach.
Our first 2 nights were a little rough due to being situated in 2 separate beds and facing the road which is quite busy at night (Jamaicans honk their horns often); however upon request hotel management graciously moved us to a gardenview room with a king bed as soon as it was available.Continental breakfast includes a boiled egg, banana bread/pastry, blue mountain coffee and fresh fruit. Juice and cereal are also available. It's a good value and was more than adequate to satisfy us on days we ate on the resort (there are also plenty of good restraunts nearby). Some people like to wake up at 9:30 after the breakfast rush and then complain when they run out of coffee / eggs / whatever - wake up earlier and you won't have this problem!Staff are professional and polite. Special shoutout to lifeguards Chris, O'Neil and Mario, security staff Nelson and Dixon and maintenance man Sylvester, kitchen staff Velma, and bartender Kelvin all who helped make our time on the resort a wonderful experience. Cleaning staff were amazing as well! Our rooms were cleaned and supplies replenished each day unless we had the do not disturb sign up.Drinks at the onsite bar are by far the cheapest anywhere on the beach. Made to order food from the onsite Sugar Cane Cafe is also tasty and cheap! There are also plenty of great restraunts and food vendors nearby, both on the street and on the beach.Quirks are admittedly minor - especially for a non five-star resort in Jamaica:-no hot water most of the time, especially when the resort is at capacity - cold water in the shower is tolerable in Jamaica though. Again wake up early and you'll get hot water!-very obnoxious Rooster next door - he crows 24x7 so head over to one of many markets across the street and buy some ear plugs!-shower door leaked a lot in our second room requiring a daily towel change from staff.-it seems like staff are doing their absolute best on a very paper thin budget. Maintenance and kitchen staff are working very hard oftentimes understaffed (on one particularly busy day Velma was working very hard in the café by herself and people were being very rude / impatient as they kept running out of coffee / utensils etc but the lady only has two hands!)It seems like the owners don't really invest any money into this resort, so staff are using what they have to keep things running. I hope management will reinvest because this place is an absolute gem and both the resort and staff deserve a lot of love and better pay!SUMMARY: we will definitely return in the future and we hope to see some more improvements from the owners. This place is a hidden gem and totally worth it!
