Fabulous boutique hotel in the superb location! The facilities exceeded expectations. The rooms were stylish, clean and comfortable. A contemporary swimming pool filled with the salt water. Internet is available on the beach and connection is great outside. There are plenty of beach beds on the beach and you can get fresh beach towels whenever you need. The day bar and restaurant is very convenient and food always fresh and testy. The servers will take great care of you! Great place to stay!
We stayed at the spa resort for a couple of nights in January 2017 with 2 other couples and had such an amazing time. We were not too sure what to expect - even though we read all of the great reviews on TA, we had seen the property from a boat ride and were actually a bit worried about what it would be like but boy were we surprised - and amazed. We stayed in a Seaside Cottage and we loved it. It was a nice size and had a nice outdoor porch/balcony area with 2 adirondack chairs and a small table. The small property makes for a true personal experience. At check-in, we were each given a delicious drink as well as a chair massage that was heavenly - and made me so thankful to have booked a massage for later that afternoon. We were given a tour of the property and then shown where our seaside cottage was located. There honestly isn't a bad location in the place. The staff - for the most part every one of them were amazing. They were all so friendly and eager to help and really made our stay memorable. D Brown, Dwayne, Richmond, KayeAnn, Monique and Afrieka were all wonderful. I booked a 90 minute seaside massage with Novelette and it was absolutely amazing - I loved it so much that I went back again the next day for another 90 minute massage with her. We had decided to go with the all inclusive package at the resort and the food from Blue Mahoe was beyond amazing. There was not a single thing that we had our entire stay that was not to die for. Kudos to the chef - he really knows what he is doing and and boy does he do it well. My absolute favorite was a tie between the jerk fish tacos and the lobster pot - both were amazing and I would go back again just for that LOL! The only thing I may do differently on another visit is forgo the all inclusive at this resort. That really all depends on each person and whether or not it is worth it and for me, I am not too sure that it was. The grounds are so clean and immaculate - there is always someone around cleaning the pool or grounds (but not in a way that they get in your way). While we were there, the resort was not fully booked and it truly felt like myself and friends had the resort all to ourselves. I think the only thing - for me - that would make this place even more amazing than it is would be to have some sort of entertainment at night. At the resort, there is absolutely nothing to do at night. I know that's part of the whole spa retreat feel and what they are going after, but even some light music would be nice. However, this truly is a place to go relax and completely disconnect from everything in the "real" world. And I can't forget to mention Rosa - she is so adorable and mild mannered. It was great having her around. She definitely is a nice touch to the spa. Can't wait to go back and visit one day!
This review is a little late as I couldn't recall my TripAdvisor password. I stayed here with my wife and in-laws over Thanksgiving. Everything about this hotel was amazing. I have stayed at hotels all over the world and I must say the bartenders here truly know how to make a cocktail and always had a red stripe waiting for me during the day time. The food and excursions were all fantastic. One tip to Management, just give the guests the wifi password as it was super annoying having the staff type in the password to 4 phones, laptops, tablets, etc. Note: half way through this ordeal after I asked for the password 5 times, they gave it to me.
We really enjoyed our recent stay at the SPA Retreat. As others have noted, staff are uniformly friendly, helpful and professional. Our place (seaside cottage) was simple and comfortable - beautiful wood ceiling, ceiling fan, great a/c, good wifi, lots of windows with screens and shades, fantastic and quite private patio. Our bed was very comfortable and we slept really well. Housekeeping staff were quick and thorough. The food was very good overall, as were the drinks. Standouts included the coconut shrimp (all the shrimp dishes, actually) and the Jamaican dishes. The swimming in front of the hotel is excellent - watching the sun set from the water is a real treat. The pool area is beautiful and roomy, even when the resort is full - lots of options for reading/lounging in the sun or shade. The resort is also very lovely at night - intimate and quiet. The stars are spectacular. If you are looking for a resort experience where you can just completely relax for a few days with some good books and pool/ocean time interspersed, I would certainly recommend the SPA Retreat.
We chose to stay at the Spa Retreat because of its #1 rating on Trip Advisor and expected a 5 star, true luxury experience. While the hotel has many attributes, we found that it didn’t live up to its rating on several counts. We spent eight nights and had the unique opportunity to stay in three out of the four room categories: Seaside Cottage, Rooftop Cottage, and their Retreat Suite. While all three rooms are very spacious, they lack the feel and elegance of a true five-star property. An unattractive and very inexpensive shower curtain is used, rather than something more appropriate, like a glass shower door. The bathroom amenities are also not up to par for a luxury hotel. More importantly, in the Seaside and Rooftop Cottages, the shower is one step down and dangerously placed right inside the bathroom door. The potential for an accident and the fact that previous guests were injured, was pointed out by the staff when we were shown the room. It is obvious that management is aware of the situation and should rectify it immediately. The Rooftop Cottage and the Retreat Suite back the street, which is very noisy. Each room comes equipped with a noise reduction machine, which doesn’t do much to stop the outside noise. While the location of the rooms can’t be changed, the noise can break the spell of peace and privacy. There is a patio outside of the Seaside Cottage that is lovely and has a great view. The patio outside of the Rooftop Cottage is nice, but not private. The patio outside of the Retreat Suite is amazing and spacious, but was under the view of the hotel’s security camera (as mentioned in earlier reviews). The room’s bathroom window was also in full view of the security camera and is the only window that does not have shutters for privacy. We were very uncomfortable with this situation and after complaining to the hotel’s outstanding General Manager, Heather, the camera was taken away for the rest of our stay. The Spa Retreat has a small pool and rock access to the ocean. There’s no music poolside, (only by the bar), and during the day, the pool and faux beach area are unnaturally quiet. If you come to Jamaica for pure peace and relaxation, then this could be a good hotel for you. On our first day, we decided to check out Seven Mile beach. From then on, we took a taxi every day from the hotel to Sun Beach, (7 minutes from the hotel), which has a gorgeous beach, free beach chairs, wonderful music, an amazingly nice staff, and home cooked local food which was excellent. Using Sun Beach as our day base, we walked to several close-by restaurants for breakfast and lunch. We usually went back to the Spa Retreat around 5:00 for Happy Hour and sunset. The sunsets are magnificent and the jerk popcorn delicious and addictive. Blue Mahoe Restaurant: We came here our first night for dinner. Parts of dinner were very good, but some things, like undercooked, inedible grilled calamari and a mediocre Jamaican sampler platter, led to our decision not have dinner here again. On our last night, management asked us to please try the restaurant again. Surprisingly, it was like we were at a different restaurant - it was very good! Breakfasts were uniformly good, (especially the shrimp omelet), but…. during our first breakfast, we ordered coffee and were charged $2.00 per refill (even if the cup was half full); thus a cup of coffee could cost over $10 which is ridiculous. Plus, their coffee was very weak and the worst we had on an island known for it’s coffee. When we spoke to Heather about this, she said she’d take the refills off our bill going forward. We have since heard back from the owner, who said that after speaking to us, she tasted the coffee for the first time EVER and agreed that it was sub-par. They have now changed their coffee and are thinking of adjusting the refill charge. Seriously? The standout for us at this hotel was the staff. The aforementioned General Manager, Heather, went above and beyond our expectations and took care of any problems quickly. She is a true professional and a sincerely lovely person. All of the staff that we encountered are top-notch –warm, friendly and genuinely interested in making our stay as wonderful as possible. We were also extremely impressed with the massages; the therapists are excellent and the setting is beautiful. Even though they are very expensive for Jamaica, ($144 for 90 minutes), they are incredible. Highly recommended!!All in all, the Spa Retreat is a very nice hotel in a beautiful location. In my opinion, it doesn’t compare to other Jamaican hotels I’ve stayed in, such as the Jamaica Inn and Half Moon, that are true five star properties. The Spa Retreat is a good four-star property. If you want a quiet, relaxing stay and are not expecting a high end five-star vacation, you’ll enjoy your time here.
