Beaches Ocho Rios Resort & Golf Club
- What's Included
- All Inclusive Features
I have never written a review before but our trip to Beaches Ochos Rios was our best family vacation ever and I really wanted to share details and call out the people that made the difference. While there were of course some small things that weren't perfect, they don't seem to matter so much when everything else is so wonderful. My husband and I have done Sandals Antigua (2x), Bahamas and Montego Bay but this was our first time to Beaches and first All Inclusive with the kids. Our first night, our three kids (5, 10, 13) were so excited that they took off for the kids club and Trench Town while my husband and I ate an amazing first dinner at Venetian (great bruschetta and fish). We brought back meals to them in our room. We were staying in a Grand Luxe room which had a great view of the ocean and while a little tight for 5 would be great for 4 with the trundle bed. On the second day, we met the person who made our trip unforgettable - Rushane Edwards. Rushane is amazing with all kids and goes above and beyond to make everyone's trip special. I have never seen anyone work so hard. My kids all cried when they said goodbye to him and have asked several times since we have been home when they will see him again. He is a major reason that we have already booked a return trip. (I pray he is still there) While Rushane (from kids camp) is a tween/teen counselor, he took my 5 year old everywhere with them including lunch (again giving me some alone time with my hubby), carried him on his back while playing in the pool, etc. And beyond my kids, everyone seemed to love him as he has an infectious happy and fun attitude. The weather when we got to Jamaica was overcast and windy but as the week went on it got to be beautiful which allowed us to thoroughly enjoy everything this resort had to offer. We had a great time on the banana boat, kayaks, paddleboards, and sailing. We did the glass bottom boat and went snorkeling. And of course, the waterpark was a hit with all of us. Romane was awesome making my son feel special and calling him "Spidey" for his spiderman bathing suit. Needless to say, that bathing suit got lots of wear.My 5 year old enjoyed a couple of the kids camp activities like Bird Watching with Big Bird and making cookies with Cookie Monster. (Levene(sp?) was awesome to him there) We picked and chose when he was in the camp so that it was during activities like that. This was a family vacation and we wanted to let the kids enjoy the resort for the most part and each other. We went to almost every Sesame Street show and the characters were great to take pictures with. They roamed the resort and for the most part were very accessible. My middle son really jived with Ricardo in the Kids Camp and had tons of fun challenging him with XBox in Trench Town.We had a great time on the trip to Dunn's River Falls and I highly recommend it. Neptunes was our favorite meal and Okeefe was amazing. The first night he learned everything we liked (lots of lobster tails) and then just kept them coming on the remaining nights. Dean and Colet were the difference makers at Venetian. Colet was very apologetic for mishaps by other people in the restaurant and was very attentive to make up for it. We told Dean how disappointed that we were that it was our last night and there weren't lobster tails on the menu and he went to another restaurant to get them for us. We ate at Bayside a lot including a great Thanksgiving feast, the wonderful Italian Buffet Lunch, every breakfast and a few other times. Most lunches were at the BBQ/Pizza and everything was very good. My two older kids loved the Creperie and ate there almost every day. Orando was great to them.Nick from Snapshots was great and got tons of awesome pictures of the kids during the week. We also did a couple of photo sessions with him and he was beyond patient with my troublesome 5 year old. Kemoy, Jermaine and Dane were also so wonderful and we had such a great time with them. While I think the prices of the pictures is insane, getting them was really important to me because this vacation was so awesome. And, these guys made sure that happened. Also, Jermaine from the Loyalty desk and Monique and Chayna from the Front Desk went out of their way to make the vacation wonderful. My kids really loved how much control they had on this vacation to go off and explore, grab ice cream and frozen drinks etc, their new experiences and friendships and how special everyone made them feel. It really was the time of their lives. My husband and I got some "us" time, got new experiences with the kids, felt totally relaxed and overjoyed by how easy and happy everyone was. I couldn't have asked for more and just hope that next time lives up to the same.PS. If I forgot to mention anyone, sorry, there were so many great people at this resort!
I absolutely love the friendly and welcoming of the staff at front desk (Damion,Rayon,Nicole, and Dannesia)You guys were awesome! Very personable staff made us feel at peace. Our bell hop (Dashun) Thanks for everything. As well as making our shopping easier in gift shop (Alex) thank you. (Shanna) i wish you can make my omelets all the time....Lol. I couldn't have partied any better without the help of (Lacey-ann) the best BBC double rum ever. Our experience with the camp for our children topped it off. Thank you to the entire staff. A special thank you to (Tavia,Stacy, Sharah-kay, Lavene,Naharrie, Dahlian,Dayna. And of course Elizabeth at the BBQ. She always knew what we wanted to order. We can't wait to return and see all the friendly smiles! Yea Mon!
This resort has good service and the rooms are nice. Food was pretty good, but most restaurants aren't open, so most nights you will only have 2 dining options to choose from. This is not a resort to go to if you like a nice beach. It is very small and very murky water. It is outdated, the grounds are not great and it needs a fresh coat of paint. The kids club is horrible. There were rust spots on the wall where the kids play. Not the best and not worth paying for the Beaches name.
We had a wonderful time at Beaches Ocho Rios. We have never been to a Beaches resort before however we have done Sandals 12 times before and it did not disappoint. Our daughter is 4 years old and can swim so she was able to go down all the waterslides without us, the foot was just as amazing as Sandals ( as well as the drinks) and the staff was above all, the best! Ashly Thomas really connected with daughter and took time out of her day to give our daughter a hug. The kids camp was awesome too and Lavine (sp?) cares about the kids like they are her own! We will be going back on another Beaches vacation.
Most important my son fell off the banana boat ride and was left in the middle of the ocean because the spotter was too busy talking to the driver to notice. Very scary. No management was around to discuss this with. When he finally did call me over 2 weeks later he can just say he's sorry. 2nd with 2 sick boys I was thrilled with an xbox in the room until it was broken. I called 4 times and made 2 trips to the front desk and was always promised someone would come help. They never did. For the most part the people were pleasant and the room was nice but when you get no resolution to what we feel was a serious problem you feel like just another number to them.
