We just got back from a relaxing vacation at Beaches. We were not sure how much our 3 girls would like the camp, but thanks to the amazing counselors (Jardine, Stacy, Naharine, and Antonio) the girls had a BLAST! By the end of our trip my 7 year old daughter, Audrey was begging me to go to the camp. It was also so nice for my youngest daughter, Greta (age 1) - she got to have her mid-day nap while the rest of us went out on a sailboat tour. The best part was going out for nice dinners by the ocean without the kids and really enjoying ourselves. I could go on an on about the rest of the resort - which exceeded expectations, but really just wanted to make sure everyone knew how wonderful, loving and kind our camp counselors were! Thank you!!
Hi! I'm sitting at the airport as my flight has been cancelled. We left Beaches at 3am to catch our flight! I have 2 children who are in 1st and 2nd grade. They loved the hotel. Many things to say: we loved Esther in tennis (my husband and I took lessons twice), Antonia in childcare and my daughter thought the djay experience was fun. I happen to sit in on the class and Paul (DJ instructor) took it very seriously and I felt like she learned a lot. The evening entertainment was wonderful--AJ, Ashley and Orville stand out as do all the Sesame Street characters. My kids loved going to the kids club. One huge concern that I had was a catamaran fell on my daughter and I don't think it was taken seriously. She has two large bruises on her arms and it drew blood on her head from a small cut. She also had a large bruise on her head. This boat was not anchored and it was windy. She was screaming a lot and we lost most of that day as she was in the nurses office and then I spent a few hours of quiet time alone with my 6 year old and he saw the boat fall on his sister and was scared. We also lost significant time as we came in on what is known as "Easter Monday" and the traffic was really heavy. It took over 3 HOURS to get there. I wish we'd been warned about this holiday because I would have avoided this travel day as my dates were flexible. Details and touches are lacking at Beaches given how much you pay. That being said the slides, etc are great and the children staying there seem happy. We met many nice people.
This was our first all exclusive resort stay, and it met our expectations, and exceeded in some. First the hotel staff greeted us and made us feel like we had already been staying with them for weeks. The staff treatment did not stop at the hotel lobby. We truly felt like family while we were staying at the resort. From the guest services, bar tenders, entertainment team, beach activities team, and overall service team, we can not speak more highly of the team and how they treated our family. The room was well maintained and clean, and that level continued through the resort. A big shout out to the entertainment team and the beach activities team, they made our kids feel like they were the only kids around, when in fact there were 20-30 kids participating in the activities. We will definitely put this resort back on our list for return visits. If there is one area for improvement would be the food variety between restaurants. No issues with quality, just very similar food styles between the different restaurants, which started to wear on the adults. Overall, I am still giving this review an excellent!
We have stayed with the Beaches group 7 times having stayed at Turks & Caicos, Negril, Sandy Bay & now Beaches Ocho Rios. We have also stayed at several other high end all inclusive resorts in the Caribbean. All that to say that we have generally high expectations and know what to expect from these type of resorts.First of all, you have to know that Ocho Rios is a relatively small resort with a nice water slide area and pool area and a relatively small beach. What does this mean? It means that if your beach needs are simply sitting on a beach chair in the sun then you will be fine. I also means that if you primarily want to engage in ocean activities, swimming, etc. then this may not be the best Beaches for you. On the flip side, if you want a resort where it is easy to locate your kids and where there is an excellent pool and water slide area for them then this is the first Beaches I would recommend. The restaurants are as good as any other resort and, although there are always service issues in the Caribbean, they were generally very good. A quick shout out to the Maitre d' from the French restaurant (Chris I think) who was easily the best example of excellent restaurant service on the resort. Really, the only area of consistently poor service we experienced at the resort was from the water sports team. Now, the reason for the heading and the reason we are writing this review; The Manager of the Cabana Concierge service (Venice). We were travelling with an 11 year old and 9 year old and our youngest became quite ill in the middle of our vacation (throwing up, had to see the resort doctor kind of thing). He is already a picky eater so feeding him became impossible and getting his strength up was an issue. Venice had the kitchen make Jello for him (was not available at the resort before or after) and she also found us Gatorade to give him (not a drink that is part of the all-inclusive resort). What made Venice stand out, however, was not just that she went above and beyond to meet the physical needs of the situation, but that she genuinely cared. It was clear that she cared about his health and that she cared about whether or not the family was able to enjoy their time at the resort. This is not the type of thing you can "fake". We also noticed that Venice was one of the busiest employees we encountered and you were more likely to see her getting other employees to start moving than to ever find her doing nothing. We will return.
Where to start?I guess I would start at the beginning when we were met by Nicholas, our Concierge. He set the tone for our stay. Nicholas was not only polite but he went well out of his way to ensure our stay was great. In fact, I brought a brand new $1000 camera but forgot the battery charger and Nicholas took his own time to call all of the local stores to find me a charger. From there I should mention the entertainment staff and activities for the kids. Each of the entertainment staff made my son feel as if he was the most important child there, and they did that to all of the kids. My son left there thinking of Akelia as the big sister he always wanted and Rashane and Alex were everywhere at once keeping the kids happy which in turn kept the parents happy. They were GREAT! The resort had water slides and even an XBox room though I admit we didn't spend time at either since we wanted to maximize our time at the Caribbean Ocean. The food ranged from good to great depending on where you wanted to go and what you wanted to eat. I especially enjoyed eating at the restaurant that overlooked the ocean. The food was great and Amoy was took great care of us, making sure we enjoyed our meals, our cups were full and we had enough to eat. Kimone and Fredricka and the rest of the concierge's office were very helpful in scheduling the offsite trips. I should mention that the free catamaran trip to Dunn's River Falls was spectacular. We had dolphins swimming all around us even between the hulls under the webbing. I recommend the upgrade that gets this included. Another note: The concierge office will also have lunches packed if you will be off-site during a meal time.I'm not sure what else to include, there was just so much and the staff really did make the trip for us. I will say that the free internet is worse than useless so plan on being unplugged OR join the Sandals Club for free and get an automatic upgrade to fast internet. I would also recommend spending the money on renting a cabana if you are not getting a beach side suite. It's not a necessity, we didn't have one. but it is well worth the money and reserves 4 poolside lounge chairs, impossible to get during spring break otherwise, and gives you a base of operation so you don't have to run back to the room constantly.
