Our family of five had a wonderful time staying at the Beaches Resort in Ocho Rios Jamaica. The resort was well cared for and clean all the time, including our room. It never seemed overcrowded which made it a comfortable place to be. We enjoyed the food at the buffet and in the A La Carte restaurants as well. We loved being able to choose any restaurant, any evening, even if we had already been there. The Bar B Q and pizza restaurants for lunch and late night were also fantastic. The best part of our stay was by far the staff. The people working in the resort were always happy, friendly and easy to get to know. There wasn't a single staff member that we came into contact with that didn't make it a point to say hello. Damion at the front desk greeted us when we arrived and stopped me to ask how we were doing every time I passed by. Our regular bartenders, Paul and Andre were a lot of fun to hang with at the pool bar. People who served us our meals, including Sheldon at the buffet, Anthony and Stevein at the Italian restaurant, Shevon and Aldane at the Parisienne and Ramone at Neptunes turned our dining into wonderful experiences as well. We even got to know Romane, a lifeguard at the pool as he played ball with the kids. Then of course there's the Entertainment crew. Alex, Ajay, Rushan, Ashly, Ashley, Cregg, Rushane, Gay-Lee...they ROCK! They worked hard to keep everyone entertained all week and did a fabulous job...especially considering the weather wasn't great. And finally the most important person helping us was Staci Anderson. She is from the Kids Camp. She spent considerable time with our youngest son who has some special needs. She kept him happy and busy when he wanted to be away from us. She took him to dinner when he got hungry and to the XBox room when he wanted to play. He loved Staci and kept asking when he could see her! We would definitely visit again...to see all our "friends" at Beaches Ocho Rios!!
We have stayed in this resort a few times and planning to do it again. The resort is VERY kids friendly! The kid's camp is great, all the people who work there are very reliable and fun. They even remember our kids from the previous trip a year ago. You can drop your kids in the camp or take them out as many times a day as you want and they are always welcomed there. ( and you can have a nice quiet dinner at that time :)Keep in mind that the resort is small. That is convenient if you want to be close to everything and kids camp, but there is no long walking on the beach
This is a fantastic place for a family vacation. The staff is the best we have encountered: every single one perfectly suited to making even the youngest kids feel welcome. Here is something special: even someone in the maintenance staff stopped to sing to an unhappy one-year-old while I was pushing a carriage around to calm him down well after midnight. That is a good example of the attention given to making this resort as good as it is. The pools and food staff are friendly and accommodating. Food service is very good. We had adjoining rooms with a shared balcony, perfect for an extended family. Rooms are spacious and well stocked with amenities. The waterpark slides are perfect for kids and adults enjoy the bigger slides. Lifeguards are very attentive. The adult pool is big and convenient. Lots of ocean activities with good reef snorkeling nearby. Nightime shows are great, and there was enough nightlife for the adults. The Sesame Street characters liven up the resort day and night and the kids get a lot of personal attention from them. We were there during a rainy time, some days were cooler than we would have liked and most days had some rain. There was still enough sun and warmth to make the place enjoyable. The staff works overtime to make up for bad spells like that. Much walking, stairs and ramps involved. Getting around with a stroller is easy, there is an elevator from pool level to the beach and every stairs in the main area has a ramp also. But getting to the seaside restaurant means carrying the stroller down a short staircase. No such issues at the other restaurants. This place is a long drive from the Ocho Rios airport, a concern with very young kids. But the warmth and friendliness of the staff make it a wonderful family destination.
We just returned last night from a wonderful family vacation here! We were 8 people with kids aged 1, 3, 5 and 13....and four adults. We had really wet weather first few days which impacted the fun and the vibe a bit....the kids LOVED the slides and water park....even 13 year old as he was trying to perfect a trick when coming down steep slide.... He also met up with other boys his age and they had fun playing some games in the pool....I agree with others that there isn't a lot to do in the evening for teens but we did enjoy just relaxing after dinner, kids fell asleep early as they were wiped out from the sun and activities all day. Beach isn't great to walk as it's small but it is very private and no one to hassle you. There is snorkelling, kayaking, stand up paddle boards.... This is our second trip to this resort. We really liked our rooms and resort was able to accommodate us with rooms beside each other on the main level with walk out patios. This was a fun location close to the restaurants and pools and nice to be able to walk out and sit with our family at night on the patio while kids in room sleeping. I really enjoyed the spa and Kaydeen is a fantastic masseuse!! Thank you Kaydeen! Our favourite restaurant is Neptunes, service is great, Dean was our server both nights and was a delight! Great with the children too! Surf & turf was delicious, so was the eggplant parmesan for any vegetarian needs. The main buffet was also very good, I don't think anyone could complain about the food here. Lots of options and all very good quality. Lots of fruit available all of the time and endless snacking if you want it. Crepes were excellent too! On our last trip we did one excursion which was swimming with the dolphins and it was great, we insisted on not staying the day which wasn't easy....once you are finished with the dolphins there really is nothing to do but they want you to stay and buy lunch and shop.... I think this is a great resort for young children and tweens. Overall, we really like it and have booked our next trip at the Beaches Turks & Caicos next year.
We just returned from 6 days at Beaches Ocho Rios. It rained almost the entire time we were there; which seriously limited our opportunities on the resort. That certainly isn't Beaches fault, but may have had some impact on my review as I think the resort should do more to cater to guests who unfortunately deal with several days of rain. This is a small all-inclusive resort which was great for my kids (ages 8 and 10). The resort was clean, the grounds were in fantastic shape, and I was comfortable letting my 10-year-old go wherever she wanted. The kids did use the kids' club a little bit, but with the rainy weather there weren't a lot of options for them there. The resort really catered to kids and the entertainment staff were fantastic. Crazy Ajay, Alex, and the rest were a riot and worked really hard to get the kids involved. My kids are pretty shy and they both participated in dance classes and karaoke! All of the resort staff were very friendly and helpful. We had an issue with our room (water coming into the room) and they moved us to another room. They actually upgraded us, which was really nice. The bartenders were all great and the drinks were fantastic. If it weren't raining or windy, I think the beach would have been a lot of fun. The food was great overall. It was always freshly prepared and there were a lot of options. You could tell they used fresh ingredients. My only issue was the lack of real spicy food. I understand at an all-inclusive you can't put up a lot of spicy foods or you'll get a more complaints. A few options with a little kick would have been appreciated. The French and Seafood restaurants were really great, and we had fantastic servers at both places. We ate at the buffet a couple times as well and it was always a different theme. I would avoid the Italian restaurant. We even made a couple late night trips to the BBQ for a burger and fries. If you're going to travel with younger kids (I would say 12 & under) I would highly recommend this place. I don't know if there were really a lot of things for teenagers to do there. I saw a lot of bored teenagers walking around. Overall it was a great time despite the weather. My biggest issue was the location. It is NOT in Ocho Rios. It is in Boscobel, which is a 20-30 minute drive east of Ocho Rios. It's in the middle of nowhere. You cannot leave the resort to walk around or go shopping. In fact, they charge you $20/pp to take a shuttle into town to go shopping. I have stayed at a lot of resorts outside of town and all of them have provided a free nightly shuttle into town to go shopping/nightlife/etc. That was really disappointing. With the resort being so small you literally feel a little trapped, especially on rainy days when there really aren't a lot of options. There's only so many hours you can spend playing board games. The resort should offer a free shuttle into town each day. I think the resort should do more for guests on rainy days (or rainy weeks). Be a little more flexible/creative when the weather is terrible. We just laughed when we would get our daily itinerary and the kids club would have all of these water/beach-related activities and the forecast was clearly calling for rain all day long.
