We had a great experience at the pool today. Jevon is a top notch waiter. As good as they come!!! Excellent service. Actually wanted to be here!!! Really great guy. Resort overall good. Do the dolphin ultimate excursion and snorkeling with Elvis!!!
Let me start with all the great things:Bed was super comfortable. The best bed I have ever slept in. I wish I knew what products were used. I should have taken apart the linens to see the set up. My son says the beds at the Roosevelt in New Orleans and Marriot Kensington London are better but this was good.Immaculate room and super clean facilities. Amusing and delightful décorSuper large and plush beach towels and comfortable chaise lounges around pool and at beach.Excellent food. The plating was superb and modern. We ate at Momo and Pier 8 repeatedly.Excellent service from staff. Wonderful beverages. The frozen drinks from the coffee at the boulangerie to the pool side pina coladas were great. My son loved the teen loungeWe had a great time with the water sports (paddle board, trike). My son loved the flow rider. My “partial” ocean view was nice. There were roofs below room but other than that it was a full view really, in my book.Pure bliss laying by the pool or in bed. Many Jamaicans (diaspora?) staying at Moon Palace, I think that speaks well of the experience.Things that I think other people might want to know before they book:Building 3 is above the “theater” and we could hear the nightly entertainment. Not a problem for me but if you want a quiet room you might not be able to get one at all under some circumstances. I was amused by the George Michael’s Careless Whisper reggae version that I heard from my room. The Sunday we were there I thought there was a concert downstairs but it was actually across the bay. I don’t think any part of the resort was immune. If you have ever been inside a building and a car with a big bass system rolls by, that was the experience for several hours. Luckily, I enjoy the music presented but if you need your quiet you should keep looking for another resort.Bob Marley is a legend. We all agree. But you will hear it seems like 75% Bob Marley music. There is so much great Jamaican music that you will not hear. Sean and Minion by the pool keep it more mixed up. Thank you for turning me on to Aidonia- Yeah Yeah (Genna Bounce Riddim) -it’s my new summer jam. I get the Bob Marley thing. On the bus ride to the resort with my Club Mobay rum punch in hand listening to Three Little Birds with the gorgeous ocean to my left and the verdant hills to my right was the perfect vacation moment. I think they don’t want you to miss out on any possible Bob Marley moments by playing Bob Marley at all times. I overheard a lady from the American south complaining she only likes rock and country, if that describes you keep looking. Our Mini Bar was only serviced the morning after we arrived. But we were offered turn down service every night. I really could have used a giant bottle of water the last day for the trip to the airport. Note to management: people probably value the mini bar beverages more than the turn down chocolates….costs more but more real satisfaction. As you will see in the other reviews the room service is subpar. I think it has more to do with the facility design than the people. It takes forever. I’m sure they have to use 3 elevators and multiple hallways to get to you. If room service is important keep looking. Two of the desserts we had, chocolate sphere at Momo and Key lime pie at Pier 8, were virtually indestructible as I am sure they are made to survive the long journey from the bakery kitchen. You see staff pushing carts through the pool area constantly. This is no Disney “everything happens by magic backstage” placeIf you have to have Dominos or Pizza Hut pizza keep looking. I loved the Neapolitan style, wood burning oven pizza but I heard other guests complain. The unclaimed chaise lounges can be hard to find. I blame the other guests. I did not figure out until my last day that people claim the chairs by laying towels over them and then leave. I had assumed people were polite and they would put their towels away when they were finished so that others could enjoy the chaise lounges. WRONG. I say if you don’t see flip flops, beach bag etc. claim it as your own. My personal observations: The guests all have huge suitcases and lots of luggage. Why? All you need is a couple of swimsuits, cover ups and outfits for dinner. You only wear your dinner clothes for a few hours, re-wear dinner clothes and travel light. Less time at baggage claim and dealing with luggage, more time on vacation. Dolphin experience- time to retire the dolphins. Watch Blackfish documentary. We are moving forward in our treatment of animals. It is 2017- no more Ringling Circus, no more whale performances at Seaworld. Time to stop exploiting dolphins. It is unnatural treatment.Do Club Mobay- it is worth it.Some of the reviews complain about the difficulty of getting a reservation at the cooking tables at Momo. The a la cart menu is fantastic. And you can watch the chefs sing “Who let the Dogs out” from almost any seat. The buffet place was much much much busier than any other food outlet. We never waited in line for food or a table. MY BIG COMPLAINT: I kept being asked if I was traveling alone (I’m female) by the front desk, resort credit, vacation planning people. My credit card was double charged. (Double incorrect charges at that.) I was charged for an excursion that should have been resort credit. If this excursion could not be booked with resort credit I should have been told ahead of time. Is this place really a bait and switch operation? I could not get a spa appointment. The whole experience with resort credit is unpleasant. I was told first day the credit had not posted to my account yet due to a “computer problem” and could not book spa or excursions until day two. Notice that there is not clear “contact us” information on their webpages. Trip advisor is the only way you can really get a response. Sketchy. Unacceptable. Dealing with this is harshing the mellow of my vacation. And the satisfaction survey emailed to my email address today was addressed to my 11 year old son. Not my name that paid for the stay...not my name that the room was reserved under.
Updated clean hotelNice, clean restaurants Rooms were small (but didn't care since we were not going to b spending much time inside anyways)The hotel lacks entertainment. We traveled with a 10yrqr old n a 15 year old who spent lots of time bored because there wasn't much to do other than eat n drink ...The very few games the "entertainment team" played were old, boring. They spent more time entertaining each other dancing around. We have visited many other resorts in Jamaica and never had bn this disappointedThe night entertainment wasn't any better either... the one show that stood up was the Michael Jackson They had a "game room" for teens to play video games but 3 out of the 7 were out of service the whole time The staff was okay friendly at times but very slow by the beach to the point that u had to re-order 3/4 times Overall it was an ok, average vacation with lots of room for improvement
Although the weather was perfect and the facility is very nice, Palace failed to wow us as we have been during our 10 year membership. Many issues involving room and amenities went unresolved. First floor King with jacuzzi and patio turned out to be disadvantage as items were stolen from patio. Management did make some effort to make us happy but, there was always another disappointment around the corner. We were celebrating a 33rd Wedding Anniversary during a 10 day stay, The staff needs to step it up quite a bit to really be at Palace service level. We often waited more than 45 minutes for a server to return with drinks....most of the time they never came up to us on the VIP BEACH! (in low season). Only got better service when Elvis and Kenatu were working. That was frustrating. Towel cubby was empty often. And, it would be nice if they had just ONE section for adults only as people with children of all ages often were in the quietest pool even though there is a pool set aside for kids. Aside from that, Veronica and SummerLee in the main restaurant were very attentive servers and should be in charge of training the rest of the wait staff. Natoya in Vacation Planning was truly the best person to work with. She is a real pro and made us feel happy to see her everyday! The resort is in good condition and has many food choices. However, the main buffet just had TOO MANY JERK dishes day after day.....not even close to the buffet quality at other Palace Resorts. The cove is nice but, there is a lot of seaweed. As an Elite Member, I expect more and this Palace did not deliver. Maybe they need more time......we would gladly return if service and food could improve.
We were a family of 4 that traveled down to Moon Palace Jamaica for our summer Vacation. In full disclosure, we are Palace Elite members and have traveled and stayed at other Palace Resorts in Mexico and have enjoyed the experience. Moon Palace Jamaica on the other hand was a very different experience. I will also leave a review of the Palace Elite membership program at the bottom of this post, due to the fact that there is no other place on TripAdvisor to leave it. First the Good:1. The grounds are gorgeous, the rooms clean and nicely appointed. What you see in the pictures, you receive.2. Pools are great and large, plenty of pool chairs. We did not feel like we needed to get up at 6 am to get a spot at the pool or beach.3. Drinks are made correctly and with higher end liquors.4. Pool servers are amazing and friendly. One of the few areas of the resort that his is true.5. Piano Bar is a must do in the evening for adults. The staff was fun and energetic. The Bad:1. Check in process is a mess. We experienced it during our check in and observed it each day. Allow at least an hour to check in, it took us two hours to actually receive a room. After flying all night and the next day from the West Coast and the hour and a half drive to get to the resort, this was a huge aggravation. The VIP section for members was not staffed. 2. Food is mediocre at best.3. The beach is nice, but not a large area and the bay has a large amount of seaweed in it. 4. Service is poor, especially when compared to other Palace Resorts. We had to ask multiple times for items we requested, housekeeping would not leave new towels, room service took a couple hours to deliver.5. Excursions are overpriced at the resort through the Vacation Planners. If you can book on your own do it, especially for the ones not covered by the resort credit. We found that once we went on the excursions and saw the actual pricing at the locations, we paid almost twice the amount. 6. Oriental restaurant reservation system is a joke. Your Planner or Concierge will tell you that you can start making reservations at the restaurant starting at 4. This is not accurate. A line starts forming at 2:30 at the restaurant and you have to wait in line till 4 before you can make a reservation. If you are not in the first 10-15 people in line you will not get a reservation.7. Check out process was mess as well. Could not use VIP area for members to check out. Waited over 30 mins to check out, which was basically confirming bill and having them cut off resort bracelet. I am giving Moon Palace Jamaica two stars because from the time we arrived to the time we left, I felt like we had to manage everything. I feel like people go to all inclusive resorts so they can have a relaxing worry free vacation. Let someone else plan and take care of the specifics. At Moon Palace Jamaica we had to follow up on everything and it become very cumbersome. We got the feeling that the employees really did not care about the guests, and would barely acknowledge us when we made requests and would argue with us when we told them was not right. We also asked to speak to management several times, and the employees told us that management was not available the first 4-5 times we requested. Once we got to speak to a manager, they were very willing to listen, but really unable to change the experience. All in all if you have not stayed at another palace location, Moon Palace Jamaica might be a serviceable option for you but don't expect world class service. If you have the expectation that this is a true Palace resort, then you will be disappointed. We had hoped that we would enjoy this resort, as we have family on the east coast and it would have been very convenient for our upcoming family reunion next year. We will find another resort for that, and this one will be taken off the rotation of Palace options. Our family still had a great time, the weather was great and the water was warm, but it was not because Palace did anything to give us a relaxing experience and it was not "Awe-Inclusive".Palace Elite Membership Review:Do not buy the membership. It really provides no value. You basically prepay for a few vacations (they call these free vacations) and get the ability to get discounted rates going forward. Not much discounted from what you can find on Costco by the way. You do not get preferred dining options or anything different from a regular guest at the resort. Every time after you purchased the membership and go to one of their resorts, they pressure you to sit through another presentation and upgrade your membership. Looking back we would not have purchased it, had they been more honest during the sales process. We also asked to speak to someone on the membership management side at Moon Palace Jamaica to voice our displeasure of how they were treating members and were told someone would be in touch. Surprise, no one ever reached out after we said were not purchasing an upgrade.
