Paradise Found

If this place had a better swimming beach I'd have to rate it 10 stars, or excellent plus or something suggestive of paradise plus. It's tucked into a beautiful cove and is right on the edge of town if you're inclined to go in and experience the wonderful people and local cuisine. The hotel itself, the grounds, the food and the staff are everything you could want, whether it's a quiet peaceful setting or a place for you and the kids. A special shout out to Elvis, who was about the nicest and most attentive staff member we've ever run into at all the Palace resorts. The same can be said for Opal and Shelly, although our favorite location usually put us closer to Elvis. They all made as feel as though we were the only ones there ... a hard thing to do when they have dozens of people to attend to. We won't be able to get back soon enough.

Fun Jet and Apple Vacation travelers are NOT given same room options~ not a good thing!

We just returned from our VERY expensive stay at Moon Palace. Very mixed emotions. Let me start with the Pro's... I would give a 5 STAR rating if based solely on the bartenders and servers! The food and drinks were great! The bartenders and waiters were fantastic and very friendly! If you want a great drink Michael, Oral, Damion & Elvis are your go to guys! When eating at Pier 8 Dwayne and Jerome are the best!! We never had to wait for a table at any of the walk in restaurants (MoMo's is a different story) The resort is a perfect size...not so big that you feel like your walking miles to get somewhere, yet there is plenty for the kids to do. No cab needed...the walk into town and to the craft market was less than 10 minutes. The kids had a blast and would go back in a heartbeat! Now the con's ... 1 STAR rating if based on the reception desk so called manager. A woman claiming to be the manager at the reception desk couldn't have cared less and had no intention of trying to resolve problems. We booked two rooms (one for us and one for our kids) and paid extra for a Ocean View rooms...NOT a partial view. First problem was the rooms were on separate floors. They said the only way they could put us together was to give us rooms with no ocean view. We were placed on the 6th & 8th floor of the # 3 building. While I could see the ocean we first had to look past the nasty rusted roof tops of the many buildings that were in front of the view (we were actually given partial view rooms .. NOT the ocean view we paid for). They told us we would have a balcony, but their idea of a balcony is different than mine. Sliding door opened and there was a railing you could lean on. The "balcony" was about 6" deep an you couldn't even stand out there. The rooms were small and felt more like a hotel room. Very small bathroom with a tiny vanity. There was another building next to ours that had actual balcony's and ocean views without the rusted rooftop views. When I asked to move to that building I was told by the person claiming to be the manager (who was less than friendly) that building was family units and concierge guest only, however my travel agent was told only after we got there that building was not an option for those who travel Fun Jet or Apple vacations. (They should note that on their website otherwise it seems come off as a bait and switch). Good luck getting into MoMO's for dinner. We were there for a week and not once able to get reservations, even after standing in line for 45 min.

Excellent Family Vacation - Best Service Experience

Just back from a great week in Ocho Rios at Moon Palace Jamaica Grande - long review sorry!. We have been traveling as a family on March Break for about 10 years now and I can honestly say that the service at Moon Palace was far and away the best of any vacation we've ever been on. We've stayed at properties owned by Waldorf Astoria, Hyatt, Marriott, Westin, etc and none of them held a candle to the Moon Palace. I wish I could remember everyone's names but two people that stood out for us were Lauren at Pier 8 and Dalton at the Boulangerie. Both went out of their way to make our dining experiences exceptional. Hats off to the entire staff!With regard to the Resort Property, it was beautiful. Everything very clean, well cared for and very nicely put together. The entire property was recently renovated, including our room, so overall a very enjoyable experience. Pools were always the right temperature, very clean and a great spot to hang out in. Only request for our family would have been for a water volleyball net somewhere in one of the pools. Always a family favorite. Our only real disappointment was the quality of the beach - don't get me wrong, it was well manicured every morning, lots of comfortable chairs, great service for drinks, just that the water is very shallow and a bit grassy. Our kids like big waves and the nature of the bay that the hotel is on is that there aren't any waves. Not a fault of the hotel, just the way it was.Overall, the food was very good for an all inclusive hotel. We ate at all restaurants and managed to find something for everyone. We have two seafood lovers and two seafood haters but managed to find great options at each restaurant. Portions were quite small at all restaurants (expect buffet obviously) but we never left hungry from anywhere. Staff were always happy to bring double portions or extra anything - just had to ask. My favorite meal was probably Pier 8 as I'm one of the seafood lovers and the restaurant is in a beautiful setting, right down on the beach with a nice warm breeze coming off the water. Again service was awesome with Lauren going above and beyond for anything we wanted. Also really enjoyed the Italian (La Gondola), Tepanyaki (Momo), Buffet (Bucaneers Reef), Sushi Bar (selection limited and pieces small but ordered lots) and the Pizza from the joint down by the dolphins. We were a bit disappointed in the Steak House (out on the water) as the steaks were just OK quality and the service was quite slow - heard that from many people staying. Not a bad meal, just not a great one. Very pleasantly surprised by the buffet - lots of selection, including Jamaican dishes like Jerk Chicken, Pork and Beef. Could have used a bit more Jamaican options for a more local experience - would have loved some Jamaican patties, Roti, etc.On site activities were very good. Used the resort credit to pay for a Dolphin swim (great service there too), trip to Blue Hole and Mystic Mountain (Bobsled and Zipline) and a photo shoot with the on-site photographer. All excursions were very good. Also did Dunn's River Falls which wasn't exhilarating but very cool and a must do during your trip to Ocho. Family favorite was Blue Hole - so much so that we did it twice. Second time just arranged for a Taxi to take us there - decent deal and safe, friendly service. Also mentioned the on-site photographer - if you are interested in getting some great family shots (or couples) while you are in the sun, please check out the DreamArt Photography shop in the lobby. We have never used a professional photographer for family photos but will be doing so more often in the future. I can't remember the guys name, but he was fantastic. He rescheduled multiple times for some "bad" weather and then spent more than an hour of his time getting us into some very cool shots. He spent hours editing them and wrapped up a nice package with more than 100 photos for our family to cherish. Highly recommended!!Finally, in the reviews I read prior to taking our trip I noted that people complained about the constant nagging of the TimeShare/Vacation Ownership people. Our experience was wasn't negative at all. They did latch on to us immediately after checking in but I explained to the lady politely that we weren't interested in free excursions or timeshare presentations and that we were just here to enjoy our family time together and they didn't bother us again. They did call the room to see if our stay way going ok and if we wanted to reconsider but I politely told them we weren't interested and were never bothered again.In summary, fantastic spot for a family vacation and I can't say enough nice things about everyone that works at Moon Palace Jamaica. My kids (14 and 16) noticed that people that worked there actually looked like they enjoyed their jobs. Always pleasant, laughing and wanting to help us enjoy our vacation. Great job all around Jamaica!

March 2017 Moon Palace not as great as advertised

We paid extra for ocean views. We did have an ocean view but what they failed to tell you was that directly in your "ocean" view was the cruise ship pier for Ocho rios and every day was a giant cruise ship in your view. We assumed the "ocean" views came with balconies. Our slider opened onto a six inch wide balcony that you couldn't even stand on. Upon our arrival in our room was a bottle of champagne chilling on ice, a bottle of wine and a plate of fruit. We didn't eat or drink any of it but it sat there rotting away for the five days we were there. It was never taken away. We spilled a drink which we cleaned up but was still sticky. It was directly in the path of the bed so the cleaning crew had to notice it. It was never cleaned up. The bathroom had hair on the floor when we got there and it was there our entire stay. The cleaning staff was not great. Supposedly you are given resort credits for excursions or things to do. You are only given the resort credits if you will attend the 2 hour hard sell to join their vacation club.Drinks on the beach were hard to come by. They were not around very often.The restaurants were very good and did not require reservations. All in all it cost a ton of money for any only okay stay.

One of our Best Vacations

We have been a Palace member for about 12 years and have visited and stayed at all of Palaces resorts. I Have to say first that the Sun Palace is our favorite hotel and now that we have stayed at the Jamaica Grand it is in the running even though they are two different types of hotels We had spoken to members who had been to Jamaica when the hotel first opened and their reviews were "a lot to be desired'. We were uncertain as to what to expect when we arrived but after a year and half if their act was not together so be it. upon arrival we were greeted by name and upon entering the lobby the place was beautiful but not overpowering. the checking was fast and we meet Kevin at the VIP check-in who every hotel should have. We had never met someone who was such a delight to work with and made you feel special and meant every word he said. Whenever we saw him throughout our stay would greet us and wave. The hotel should is lucky to have him for he represents the spirit of the hotel. I could go on forever about the hotel since it went beyond our expectations in all aspects from being immaculate, quality of food, and most of all THE STAFF. I always said the staff makes the hotel and they employed all the right people who could not have been any friendlier and nicer. Some of the people who we met that really impressed us was of course Kevin Front Desk; Elvis who waited on us at the beach; both executive chefs at the Mo Mo and the Gondola restaurant who served us Very special meals; Arturo from Palace VIP and three very special people from the Piano Bar, Damien the bartender, Sabrina & of course Kayla who every night made us feel so so welcome with both the interest and warmth the made us feel so welcome. Most of all I would like to thank Mr Clifton Reader GM of the hotel who took a special interest in us since this was a special time for us, but in running such a wonderful resort in its beauty and having all the people who make it a very special hotel.
