It's a large sized property with beautiful grounds. The ocean has calm, shallow waters and a reef with good snorkeling is located nearby. Lots of choices for a la carte dinners, the Steakhouse is very good and don't miss the Jerk Hut for lunch. Junior suites in deluxe wing are beautiful and very spacious. The Riu Ocho Rios is truly a great resort for all; families, couples and singles. A definite recommend!
Just minutes from town, yet nicely removed from the hub-bub, the RIU Ocho Rios is located on a breathtaking beach and surrounded by Ocho Rios famous rainforests and spectacular waterfalls. Enjoy outstanding international fine dining, get pampered at our Spa, or revel in the Caribbean sunshine with authentic tropical atmosphere and entertainment. Riu Ocho Rios will ultimately satisfy all your Caribbean desires.
Location: Directly on 7 miles of beach, on Mamie Bay in Ocho Rios, 90 min from the airport.
Me and my wife stayed there with my family and never stayed in an all inclusive like this. The staff is rude to say the least with a few exceptions and we've stayed in the Rius and had amazing service. The brand shouldn't even be associated with this hotel. The restaurants are all pretty much buffet and serve yourself and this is one of the major downfalls. Every other all inclusive we have stayed offered both buffet and nice sit down options. The bar tenders located in the lobby were hit or miss and it seemed like a burden to make you a drink. The rooms were okay outdated and our curtains had cigarette burn holes in them. We had to move our room on day one because the air conditioning was leaking and our floor was soak and wet. When we called down at 4 am they ensured us that someone was coming right up 2 hrs later still no maintenance worker so we went to the front desk and requested a new room and were told "if we can find you one" needless to say by 9 am finally we were moved and btw still no maintenance. The air conditioning blows warm and the room is always a steady 70 degrees which provides little relief from the beach and sun. The refrigerator was stocked once in 7 days and when we requested more water we were told that we could fill up our bottles at the buffet and that we would be put on the list for the next day. What!?! And another downfall is the no room service. The pool closes around 6 pm which I never had a hotel that closes so early. The beach is not safe at night and you can't walk around outside the resort. Many of the locals come to this resort, walk the beach day and night. They allow day passes to locals to stay, eat and swim here and there is a distinct difference in treatment. Nice if they want to sell you something!!I clearly did not feel welcomed here, did not feel safe and could not wait to return home. Definitely safe in saying I will not be returning to Jamaica, and this put a damper in ever booking a Riu in the future. The front desk was NEVER helpful, and that is your lifeline to your services and our piece of mind staying in another country.
Stayed 10 days in may in standard twin room, beds were hard and not very comfortable, there was a slight musty smell which clung to clothing, even after washing.Hotel itself was lovely, staff kept it spotless at all times and were very friendly, reception were helpful as we decided to buy wi if for our room to find out it didn't work, but within a couple of days, the engineers fixed the problem.Food was lovely, plenty of choice but sometimes was not very hot.Didnt like the entertainment apart from a couple of nights,it was too samey a lot of cheesy shouting ,a bit like what you would expect at a Spanish resort. The taxi drivers outside the resort, seemed a bit daunting when we first arrived, but since found out they are perfectly legitimate, and offer a better deal than travel reps.Bob Marley 9 mile excursion is a must, brilliant guide on the Zion bus,and captain crazy at 9 mile,a wonderful experience, also visited dunns river falls which is not far from this resort, and well worth it as is outstanding. The beach is lovely, plenty of sun beds, and always kept tidy by staff, also lifeguards on duty. All in all a lovely holiday apart from the hard beds, and musty smell,oh and it would have been nice to have a seated smoking area for guests,as it's a non smoking hotel, but some guests disregarded this!I would stay here again but maybe upgrade to a deluxe room which offers free wi if in rooms, and hopefully a more comfy bed
This was our second visit to this hotel, 1st time 8 years ago. Travelled as group of 7 aged from 31 to 65. Another fantastic holiday. Check in was very quick and efficient , just what you need after a 9 hour flight. Hotel is in need of an update seemed a bit dated compared to other hotels we have stayed at in Jamaica. They were painting the outside of the building while there but inside decore a bit dated. Must give an appraisal for the decorators who climbed the buildings on rope ladders and swung from balcony to balcony, very little health and safety lol. Despite that, facilities are good and the staff are brilliant, very friendly especially the animation staff who do a fantastic job, don't know where they get their energy from, on the go all of the time. Big up to bird man and Bruno. They all made you feel welcome and could tell they enjoyed their jobs, which reflects on the guests. Stayed at The Grand Bahia last year and found entertainment far better and more fun at the Riu. Special mention to Novelette in the Spa, she gave us some great laughs. Jerk hut good, better than Scotchies that was supposed to be best in area (OK for tourists who have not tried jerk before). Good selection of food, could of been a bit hotter, loved the oxtail and curried goat. Rooms always clean and tidy, we stayed in rooms 3330, 3319 & 3250, didn't find a problem with the distance from the restaurants. Overall had a fantastic time and will definitely be back, hopefully next year, definitely recommend Riu Ocho Rios
This was my second time at this resort and it was beautiful. Staff friendly and accommodating. Food is OK if a little dumbed down but you definitely won't go hungry. My one and only gripe is the on site nurse. My sister had an accident (not on site) and to say she appeared clueless was an understatement. Unfortunately she appeared to be there for the sole purpose of selling the services of a private Dr even for something as basic as a pulled muscle and overall was unhelpful. However she was a small blip on the horizon of what was otherwise a lovely stay.
About my stay at the RIU Club Hotel in Ocho Rios Jamaica. My father is Jamaican, so I make sure to visit the island just about once a year. Often we have stayed at the Jamaica Grande (through its many ownerships), however this go around we've decided to switch things up for our weeklong stay. Overall the resort was average at best. I'll quote my cousin and say "it wasn't spectacular". Food: In our first days, the buffet was amazing. The food was really good. But after a while, we noticed a trend between dinner in the previous day and lunch the following day. Dinner had become leftovers for lunch the following day or a few days after. Breakfast had become monotonous with the exception of the porridge. Even the Jamaican breakfast options grew limited. Overall, some of the food was overcooked, while other food was amazing (the oxtail). The steakhouse was very good, but I could've done away with the other specialty restaurant options. I must say I'm disappointed that there is no room service, especially when the late night dining option ends at 12 midnight. I felt forced to get up and travel to the buffet when I would have much rather preferred to eat in, rest and relax and enjoy my room. Bar service: The bar staff was not as upbeat as I'm used to. Bar service seemed like they were bothered by requests. I would like to shoutout Kamar at the pool bar. He was very attentive to our group's needs. Entertainment staff seemed to be missing most times. Their presence wasn't felt too much on the resort. And where was the music?!! Aside from the boom box playing music at the pool bar on the deluxe side, it was quiet. The shows were repetitive as well and it "seems" like they were on a 2-day rotations. Rooms/Housekeeping: overall was good. Patricia was great and I will be leaving her a good tip. The only thing that was missing the floors needing to be mopped. The rooms were okay, but very humid and at times the AC would be on "high" and feel like it wasn't even on low. The mini bar was never filled enough for us to not run out of Appleton Special! We had to borrow from one another's rooms. I enjoyed my vacation overall because I definitely needed the time away from home. For me, room service is a big deal, as well as enthusiasm of staff, so I don't think I'll be returning to the RIU.
