It's a large sized property with beautiful grounds. The ocean has calm, shallow waters and a reef with good snorkeling is located nearby. Lots of choices for a la carte dinners, the Steakhouse is very good and don't miss the Jerk Hut for lunch. Junior suites in deluxe wing are beautiful and very spacious. The Riu Ocho Rios is truly a great resort for all; families, couples and singles. A definite recommend!
Just minutes from town, yet nicely removed from the hub-bub, the RIU Ocho Rios is located on a breathtaking beach and surrounded by Ocho Rios famous rainforests and spectacular waterfalls. Enjoy outstanding international fine dining, get pampered at our Spa, or revel in the Caribbean sunshine with authentic tropical atmosphere and entertainment. Riu Ocho Rios will ultimately satisfy all your Caribbean desires.
Location: Directly on 7 miles of beach, on Mamie Bay in Ocho Rios, 90 min from the airport.
Overall the resort is a beautiful property and a perfect resort for every occasion. The lobby and grounds of the resort are clean and well maintained. There is an area for everyone to enjoy regardless of age. The grounds of the resort is large so plan on doing a lot of walking. It's in a great location with easy access to all excursions and downtown Ocho Rios. Customer Service: Unfortunately this resort has some downfalls in the communication and customer service area. The staff upon check in are rude, unfriendly and have no desire to help in anyway. Around 3pm the lobby is a zoo so avoid at all cost. Also, if you are planning on taking excursions make sure you are on the front steps in the lobby 15 mins prior to your pickup time and let it be known which excursion company you are waiting for. The drivers and hotel staff put forward very little if any effort to assist you to your destination. I saw quite a few people including myself miss their rides to excursions due to a poorly run lobby area. Food: The food selection at the resort is plentiful and you are able to find something to eat at all times. The food is not above par and needs work. Everything pretty much tastes the same with little to no flavor. Typical all-inclusive foods with a couple Jamaican dishes here and there. Beach: Let me start by saying the beach at this resort is one in a million and so beautiful. It's clean, calm, and relaxing. There are more than enough beach chairs for everyone. The water is warm and calm and the sand feels like heaven on your toes. Entertainment: The entertainment staff was great. The guys at the pool did great entertaining and interacting with the kids and adults too. Fun atmosphere all around. Pool: The pool areas are beautiful, clean and refreshing for all. Each pooh as a full bar and swim up bar, lounge chairs and shade for everyone. The towel situation could be a problem if you loose your towel card so make sure you keep the card in a safe place. Questionable: This resort sells day use passes so there are a lot of people on the resort for the day.
My Cousin and I brought her 18 year old daughter and her friend to Jamaica for their Graduation gift. It took about an hour and forty five minutes to get to the resort from the airport. We stayed in rooms 2318 and 2326. Upon getting to the resort we were told that they had no adjoining rooms as we had previously requested. Not a big deal for us because the kids were 18 but this could have been a major issue if they were younger. The rooms were clean and the view was beautiful. We could see the ocean and the pool. There were several cons to the room. We noted that one wall lamp had no lamp shade and the water pressure was not great. You also had to carry around a safe key rather then creating a code and had to carry around room keys rather than using a key card. I was told that this may be different on the upgraded side of the resort. We were also provided towel cards in order to get a towel which I found a little annoying but I get the reason for that. If you lost a key or a towel card the cost is 20-50 dollars to replace. The resort itself was beautiful and well manicured. The pools were clean and fun. The staff was awesome and helpful. The entertainment crew was awesome and tireless. Nikki and her crew are amazing dancers and really made the trip special for me. The drinks were delicious. The food buffet was what I've come to expect at an all inclusive resort which is that it is decent but not amazing. The steak house was decent was well. The Asian restaurant was basically like eating american takeout.Overall Id recommend this property if you are on a budget and want some cold drinks and a beautiful ocean. If you have some more money to spend Id recommend another property. If you liked my review please give me a thumbs up. Thanks for reading!
The entrance grounds and overall amenities were really great! The lobby jas a beautiful view of the beach etc.... what the photos don't show is the horrible food options and the undesirable rooms. Our view was amazing but the bed was the WORST!!!!! One lousy pillow per guest and honestly I'd rather sleep in the beach loungers at the pool. Buffets aren't my favorite to begin with but the selections were very cold and lacked flavor. Stick to the local dishes they are best ie jerk chicken stand for lunch (althougj it just seemed like grilled chocken with sauce) and eat the veggies other than being smothered in too much butter they were cooked well. The pool closes daily at 6pm... my guess is so people enjoy the nightly parties and entertainment. Monday nights white party is a blast!! The karaoke was decent on Tuesday then the other nigjts its a live band and some local dance entertainment show activities. They include the audience on stage so its fun. Be sure to see the guys in all green on the beach they have the coconuts with straws really good. The non water sports are included so kayaking, paddle boat, wind surfing were free its fun it its not too windy. Oh and beach towels are 2 changes daily you ger a card to swap outfor a towel don't loose the towel they are $20 to replace!!! Towel service for the beach opens at 8am.... they are very relaxed they live in the Caribbean so dont expect them to jump at your requests. You will either need the towels or the cards at check out. Please keep in mind this is Jamacia so no one is rushing to do anything!!! Check in was slllloooowww.... if they say we open at 9 dont expect alot to being going on when they open...
IF this was just a cheaper all-inclusive option and all we came for was ourselves, it would have probably been a three star rating for me. The beach was nice, you can't beat a swim-up bar and plentiful drinks (they were sweet as hell but that was expected), and the food options averaged out to okay- a meh main buffet, decent specialty options, and one excellent jerk chicken hut for lunch. The performances were decent and I had fun playing water polo with the event staff.BUT we DID NOT COME for a discounted getaway. We came for my wife's sister's wedding. As such, the following things went wrong:The bride and groom booked and paid for Monday arrival but were told they weren't expected until Wednesday in the system and were asked to pay for the additional two nights (eventually waived). After a LONG flight and shuttle trip, we were greeted by a rather unfriendly front desk experience. Here is your key- if you lose it you will be charged $75. Here is your bracelet- you will be charged $200 if you lose it. Here is your safe lock, if you lose it... you get the picture. Then off to the room- on the other side of the resort from the bride and groom and separated from the other guests across the three property buildings. The room is badly in need of renovation. It is tacky and outdated and smelled musty throughout our trip. The grounds were generally okay but many spots were dirty- dishes took a long time to be cleared in the dining hall and the pool maintenance was severely understaffed- scum accumulated in spots in the pool and cups stacked up throughout the day around the pool.It became common to ask for a drink, food, etc and get a nasty look from your server like you were putting them out. There was a general lack of friendly service we have encountered in other resorts. The front desk was especially unfriendly. Rehearsal dinner was at the steakhouse and our reservation was at the opening of the restaurant at 6:30. We arrived at 6:30 and our section had already been given away. We got seated 90 minutes later. In addition, the lighting of the bonfire scheduled for after the rehearsal dinner was not delayed, so it was pretty much done when we were finished. For the wedding, the hotel booked all their indoor spaces. We were scheduled for an outdoor reception, but they had no backup plan for rain. They suggested we would end up on the veranda of the other wedding (and guests would have to walk through that wedding to go to the bathroom). They offered a tent for an additional $2,000 which the groom eventually convinced them they would have to provide at no cost. (By the way, there was an extended downpour right at the start of the reception). Wedding arrives: As the groom is about to enter, they still are half decorated and have their boxes out. The groom's sister had to tell them to put it away. The DJs did not have any of the bride and groom's requested music, nor did they have a way of getting it, but this was never communicated to anybody. The processional was played to a song the groom hates, and the reception entrance was "Turn Down For What." There was no first dance song as requested. We had fun at the wedding, though this was mainly due to us all wanting to enjoy ourselves and honor the bride and groom. This was temporarily disrupted when the serving staff cornered the groom for tips (the one thing the management was upset to find out- apparently this is forbidden. We did not know and the groom's party put together a nice tip for the staff). Other little things: the table place-cards were hand-painted shells with our names on them, but they FORGOT TO PUT TABLE NUMBERS on them! The bride got yelled at for entering the dining hall situated adjacent to the pool while wearing a towel. They cut off the bridal party's bracelets for photos, but then the front desk did not have replacement bracelets for them (they had to carry the cut bracelet or risk being labeled as a trespasser or incurring the $200 lost bracelet fee). I could go on...All in all, this resort produced a wedding, but that is about all I can say. I would not recommend to anybody to get married here and there are too many resorts out there for me to give them another chance.
Hotel a a little dated, needs money spent on it, food not top notch , some staff rude , Rohan in st Ann's restaurant top man to buy Ganga off, very helpfull, don't book trips with Thompson rep very expensive , big thanks to daddy reds cabs in reception , this man took us everywhere he was great and he was half the price the reps were going to charge us, his name is pervis just ask for daddy reds taxi, you will not be exploited, don't get wifi upgrade it's a con , we had to get a refund,
