Our Opinion

The Sandals Ochi Beach Resort is a huge resort set amongst beautiful gardens in a very relaxed setting. The back section of the resort is where you will find The Ciboney Villa Suites, these are very impressive with private pools, but are a bit farther from the beach. A multi-million dollar renovation in 2015 features a fresh, modern design aesthetic along with seven uniquely new Gourmet Discovery Dining options and a trendy Ochi Beach Club. Like most Sandals resorts, this one is definitely recommended for couples looking for romance and relaxation.

Overview

Nestled between the St. Ann Mountains and the Caribbean Sea, Sandals Ochi Beach Resort features three unique vacation experiences in one: the vibrant beach culture of the Caribbean Rivera, the chic Ciboney Villa Suites located in lush tropical gardens; and the heart and pulse of the resort, the Manor House with its fantasy pool all come together to create an unforgettable getaway. From championship golf and a renowned scuba program to world-class dining at 11 restaurants and private strolls along Ocho Rios' longest beach; from luxurious Butler Service suites with 24-hour room service to a full-service Red Lane Spa and unlimited land & water sports, this exquisite sanctuary offers something to tempt every guest.

Location: Beachfront in Ocho Rios. 1 hour and 45 minutes from the airport.

A Disappointing Experience

My husband and I were really looking forward to this trip, but unfortunately it didn't live up to its expectations. Here are some reasons why:1) Cleanliness: The rooms are outdated and need to be cleaned and renovated. There was mold on the mattress and the bathroom wasn't clean either. Luckily, we didn't spend too much time in the room, but they need to renovate their rooms and update their bedding.2) The activities: They have a newspaper titled "footprints" and they advertise the daily schedule. It is completely false. If you are expecting a vacation where you can engage in activities this is not the place for you. They didn't offer the majority of the activities they said they would while we were there and we often showed up at the meeting spot only to be disappointed that nothing was happening. They advertise that they have 4 tennis courts with equipment. The equipment is so outdated and the tennis balls barely bounced. I would have expected that from other all inclusive but not Sandals.3) The food: looked incredible, but if you have any dietary restrictions/allergies like I do, it becomes a nightmare. The staff do not always communicate well and they pretend to understand when they clearly don't. There were many nights I went to bed hungry because they didn't know how to accommodate me. I don't think a dairy intolerance should be so hard to figure out.4) The grounds: absolutely stunning, however, it rained almost everyday for at least 2 hours, making the grounds wet and slippery. I fell twice and the resort was completely unaccommodating wanting to charge me 20.00 USD for a piece of gauze and tape. Totally unsympathetic and didn't care. Blamed me for falling that I was wearing flip flops instead of running shoes.5) Lack of night time activities: They planned something different every night, but everything was over by 9pm and then the resort shut down. I'm not a big party animal but we were on vacation.More nightlife and entertainment would have been appreciated.6) Be aware that there are 2 sides to the resort. Luckily we stayed on the beach side and went to the other side a couple of times. Beach side much better and has more to do. To get to the other side you need to take a shuttle or walk up a steep hill.Overall, weather wasn't great, I know that can't be helped. Staff not very helpful, but definitely friendly. Resort needs facelift and needs to actually follow through with their activities. Already wrote a letter to the resort and I'm still waiting for a reply. Their motto is more inclusions than any other all inclusive and this was definitely not the case. Also, they sell this as a couples only but their were families there, granted they were over 18, but their were also large groups of college kids and I wasn't expecting that. Get ready for a 2 hour drive from the airport with some crazy driving!

Not what we expected from Sandals

My husband and I just returned from SANDALS OCHI BEACH RESORT after a 7 day stay January 1-8, 2018. We booked our vacation through AirTransat Vacations in Canada, flew out of Toronto, and stayed in a Honeymoon Hideaway Luxury Club Level Villa Room.We are seasoned Caribbean travelers (have stayed in Cuba x2, Dominican Republic x3, St. Lucia x1, Mexico x2 and Jamaica x6) and always stay at 4 or 5 star all inclusive resorts when we go. We have tried all different types of resort chains including, Iberostar, Ocean 10, Sandos, Memories, Palace, Jewel, and Bahia Principe and have now gone to 2 Sandals properties in Jamaica as well. Lets start off with the pros about this resort: 1) Price was the major reason we booked this vacation. Much cheaper than any other we could find for the first week in January. 2) Direct flight out of Toronto and only 4 hours flying time.3) Returning guest dinner was a nice treat, but this happens at all Sandals locations not just Ochi.4) Grounds are lovely and vegetation is very lush and beautiful.5) Housekeeping staff were very good at looking after us and our room.6) Well, I guess that's it! Sorry Ochi, but there are a lot of things you need to work on.Now for the cons: 1) This resort is NOT a beach resort as advertised! The beach is very small and is chopped up so that you can't even walk on it for any length of time.2) There is literally a highway running right through the 2 major areas of the resort (Riviera Beachfront and All butler Village) and guests must take "the hop" bus to access anything.3) Rooms are dated and we had lots of issues- air conditioner leaked all over the wall and floor (finally repaired after 3 calls to the desk), cupboard door missing completely our entire stay, balcony shutters broken and had to use a towel to hold them together, make up mirror broken and had exposed wire (repaired after 4 calls over 2 days), and coffee maker broken and had to be replaced.4) Food and service was average at best. I always made our servers aware of my allergies and was actually SERVED FOOD I WAS ALLERGIC TO (at Neptunes) even after our server confirmed with me my allergies!5) We were charged for premium internet twice on 2 different days 2 and 3 days into our stay and never purchased this even once during our stay. This really irked us, as we are very careful about never purchasing this on any of our vacations, let alone twice! Front desk would only remove one charge from our bill checking out when we disputed the charges.6) We experienced bar tenders at the Sundowner, Riviera swim up, and Riviera Village bars that were actually grumpy all the time and made us feel that we were inconveniencing them with our drink requests.7) Harbour club pool was out of service for 1 day and had to be completely drained and cleaned due to mud pouring into it. Although this was due in large part to the heavy rain, this could have totally been prevented if the lifeguard who was in charge of this pool and its maintenance, monitored it instead of leaving the area continually to attend to his other business (propositioning guests to see if they would like to make a purchase from him for marijuana!)Unfortunately, my husband and I were left disappointed with our trip to Sandals Ochi and have both said we will not return there again. There are far better 5 star resorts in Jamaica such as Iberostar Grand Rose Hall (our absolute favorite out of all we have stayed at) or even Sandals South Coast that you can spend your hard earned vacation dollars at.

Thankful for the amazing staff

I wanted to leave positive reviews for a laundry list of employees at the resort. My wife an I were so happy with the service we had during our stay at Sandals Ochi between December 18th - 28th. We did the butler service and they were the saving grace of our trip when our travel agents continuously dropped the ball. Oshane and Vennice were our butlers and we were so lucky to have them. They were super friendly and very professional. Our travel agents failed to book the correct room, failed to book some excursions, and failed to apply our spa credit for booking. We felt terrible asking for the services but we figured that is what we booked we should at least see what happened. When our travel agents failed to accommodate us, Oshane, Vennice, and Dwight all stepped up to save the day. They got us in a great room, secured our spa credit and assisted with our excursions. We missed the opportunity to participate in the catamaran ride but Oshane, Vennice, Dwight secured us a trip along the coast at sunset in the scuba boat. The boat ride was fantastic. It was way beyond anything we were expecting. It was an experience we will never forget. There is a lot more that I can say about our butlers but I want to give credit to everyone else. The Play Makers:All of them where great. They even remembered who my wife and I were and would call us by our names and nick names. It was really cool to be remembered like that. During the shows they would even acknowledge us and welcome us. It was great. We met all of them but the ones we spent the most time with where the lead MC/Manager, Leon, Javada, and Patrick. They were great!Aqua:Semaj taught my wife and I how to scuba dive. She was very nervous going into it but he made her feel safe. We were lucky to have such a patient guide.Winston and Damian took us out on our sunset cruise. It was after hours for them and we were really greatful of their time and company. We will never forget that experience.Cabana:We did the Cabana on the beach one of the days and had Michael as our cabana butler. He was great. Super friendly and attentive. He taught us a lot about the culture and knew the answer to everything. He even got my wife a desert and gave me the credit for it. Really great guy!Deep Sea Fishing:Lorenzo and the captain were amazing. We spent more time with Lorenzo than the captain but the captain was awesome. My wife got really bad sea sickness and Lorenzo was very accommodating. He helped to relieve any embarrassment she had from getting sick and even helped her to the couch to rest. Horseback riding:We went horseback riding at the plantation. Michael was our guide. He was also very knowledgeable and very friendly. It was one of our favorite excursions.Photographers:We kept having the pleasure of running into Chris, Brian (boom) and Ralston (rooftop). The three of them where great! It seemed like they worked every single day. They always remembered us and would always come up to us. And they were certainly doing their job of taking pictures all the time. The Bars:We interacted with Andre, Janoy, and Andrew very often. They were very energetic and engaging. Some of our best nights there was at one of their bars. One night all three of them where together and it was a blast! In summary we would like to say thank you to the amazing staff at Sandals Ochi. So many people did not make our lists that definitely made our trip one to remember. Nice

Very nice, but some glaring shortfalls. Several times we had extended wait times for service at dining although it was not a very busy service. We were seated and waited 35 minutes for coffee and then an equal wait for food service. most tables that we could see also had the same issue. Then it happened again at a different venue.
