Sandals Ochi Beach Resort

The Sandals Ochi Beach Resort is a huge resort set amongst beautiful gardens in a very relaxed setting. The back section of the resort is where you will find The Ciboney Villa Suites, these are very impressive with private pools, but are a bit farther from the beach. A multi-million dollar renovation in 2015 features a fresh, modern design aesthetic along with seven uniquely new Gourmet Discovery Dining options and a trendy Ochi Beach Club. Like most Sandals resorts, this one is definitely recommended for couples looking for romance and relaxation.
Nestled between the St. Ann Mountains and the Caribbean Sea, Sandals Ochi Beach Resort features three unique vacation experiences in one: the vibrant beach culture of the Caribbean Rivera, the chic Ciboney Villa Suites located in lush tropical gardens; and the heart and pulse of the resort, the Manor House with its fantasy pool all come together to create an unforgettable getaway. From championship golf and a renowned scuba program to world-class dining at 11 restaurants and private strolls along Ocho Rios' longest beach; from luxurious Butler Service suites with 24-hour room service to a full-service Red Lane Spa and unlimited land & water sports, this exquisite sanctuary offers something to tempt every guest.
Location: Beachfront in Ocho Rios. 1 hour and 45 minutes from the airport.
This was our third visit to the property. Have enjoyed all three stays. The following is an attempt to outline the positives (for us) and the downside to the resort.Rooms: We stayed in the Romeo and Juliet ("RJ") suite on the hillside. Previously we have stayed in a butler one bedroom suite at the top of the hill. I believe it was the 7000 building. Both have their pluses and minuses. The RJ suite is an enclosed suite area (a single building) and looks precisely like what is shown on the youtube videos. Modern and updated versus the butler one bed suite. If you wish to have the upmost in privacy this would be the suite for you. If you want an oceanview than I would opt for the butler one bed suite. That is the only thing I missed in selecting the RJ suite. The RJ suites are closer to the Manor and an easy walk down - a bit more challenging on the way up but not nearly the distance of the 7000 block.Bulters: Truly the reason why we return to this Sandals. We have had Jackie and Romeo for our three visits and specifically ask for this team each time we return. Although based upon most of the reviews the butler teams seem to be outstanding across the board at Ochi I can't imagine any butler providing the service that we have had from Jackie throughout our stays. Superb customer service. All requests responded to in a timely manner and even when we didn't know we wanted something she would be there with her fabulous smile. We have stayed at the Royal Caribbean, Royal Bahamian, Emerald Bay, Montego Bay and Le Toc. While the butler service has been acceptable to good during these stays nothing has compared to our Ochi butler team. Beach: If I wanted to lie on a beach and play in the water every day I would not stay at this resort. The beach is simply not great. If you want a superb beach go to Emerald Bay. The beach is chopped up into two sides with a dock and marina along with restaurants in the middle of the two sides. Two very small swimming areas and the one near the watersports has an odor that is fairly noticeable if you dine at Kellys. There is spotty drink service but honestly the beach is so small the walk to the bar takes a few seconds. Bar service can be slow. On the day we spent some time at the beach there was one bartender serving the beach and pool area. Pools: As we have always had a semi or private pool we have not spent much time at the resort pools. On the ocean side there are two relatively small pools. You must travel to the hillside to enjoy the massive signature pool that Sandals is known for. The hillside pool has music and games during the day. If quiet is what you want this is not the pool for you. Dining: Given that we have been to the resort three times we have dined at all of the restaurants. This trip our breakfast was at the buffet - Southern Table in the Manor building. Wide assortment of food that should please anyone's wants. Prompt service. Same for lunch one day. They offer themed buffet lunches. Dining in or on the patio. Le Gourmand is still a favorite for dinner. The service is very good and the food excellent. Disappointing visit to the italian spot. Although the appetizers were good we did not stay to finish our meal. We waited much too long between courses and decided to leave. The Manor served an excellent meal of Jamaican favorites. Kellys was disappointing. In the past we have enjoyed excellent meals. While the service was spot on and filet was very good the pasta was not nor were the appetizers. Since our last visit the menu has changed. But you can't beat the ambience dining outside. More on our butler Jackie....as a result of the lack of service at the italian restaurant she arranged to serve us a dinner off the italian menu in our suite. Not a resort where you will ever go hungry. Activities: We have been to Jamaica so frequently we did not participate in any island tours. On site they offer adequate gym facilities. Never had to wait for machines but I tend to go later in the morning. At 9:30 the cardio room was empty. Never went to the weight room but have visited in the past. Well equipped. There is a gym on the ocean side but I have never been. At the hillside you can power walk your way up and down the hill and into the side streets which makes for a nice workout. There is a paper each day that outlines the schedule for daily activities. Did not snorkel this time but have been in the past and it has been fair to good in terms of the fish and reefs. Entertainment: Attended the steel drum show and went twice to the Rabbit Hole. Once to see Big Mama. All shows were very good. They do have movie nights on the hillside but did not attend. Take aways: We come to Jamaica and this resort for pure relaxation. As I mentioned the beach is not all that important to us. The RJ suite is perfect for our needs and if I need a view of the ocean I can ride the Hop to the seaside. While there we booked again for 2018. Other tips: In the past we have taken the Sandals shuttle to the various resorts. This trip - and particularly for Ochi - we hired a private car through Island Routes. WELL worth the money for the long 1.5 hour ride. A four door Audi - free WiFi - snacks and cold red stripe. Free ticket to Club MoBay for the return. Book it you won't be disappointed and have to deal with a bus.
This was my wife and I's first trip to Jamaica and I must say it will not be our last. From the time that we stepped off of the shuttle to the time that we left, we were treated like family. Our concierge, Verona, was excellent. She ensured that all of our reservations were taken care of. In fact, she went above and beyond when she assisted the couple that we went with on their 20th anniversary by surprising them with a set-up over looking the ocean. The entertainment department was outstanding. Playmakers such as Johnoy, Tyron, Chad and Shelly were excellent at making us feel welcomed. The shows that we attended every night were fantastic. Shelly has a voice that is unmatched and the energy that Tyron and Chad showed was unstoppable.Individuals from the bar department were also great. Akeim, a bartender and singer, was over the top. We enjoyed listening to him sing.Other individuals that made our stay most enjoyable included Jason, who restocked our villa bar everyday. He always ensured that our favorite drinks were stocked. Dawn, our housekeeper was lovely. She would make different animals from the towels and leave them on our bed with petals from different flowers on them.My wife and I can not say enough about the employees. They so made the trip a very enjoyable experience that it was sad to leave. It is for this reason that we have already booked a return trip for next year. I highly recommend a trip to Ochi for a great time.
My husband and I spent a week at Sandals Ochi and had a blast! I think it was largely due to the employees that we got to know along with the beautiful resort. The bartenders at the riviera seaside village swim-up bar were great! Some of the names of the great bartenders were Keddar and Karon. They kept us entertained and were great to talk to. All the playmakers, especially Tyrone or TT as we called him, also made the trip memorable by entertaining us and went above and beyond. We would definitely go again to experience the great service these people provided. The resort itself is beautiful and has great views everywhere! We have been on many trips before and this trip ranks at the top of them.
From the moment I arrived at Sandals I was met with smiles, friendliness, and love. The trip to Sandals at Ocho Rios was tranquil especially with Ms. Verona taking care of any necessity that we had. Jamaica is full of natural beauty that can been seen from anywhere on the resort. The rooms are comforting and very clean. Each morning the housekeeper makes different animals from towels with flower petals around for your bed. Our housekeepers were Ms. Dawn and Ms. Kerisa while in the evenings Ms. Anna-Kyle turned down our bed. Jason made sure our bar was fully stocked with all of our drinks (RUM) for me and plenty of water just in case one didn’t quench their thirst around the Polo club great bartenders (Reginald) there so you really want to stop in and get a drink and karaoke at night. Eating breakfast in the Manor House where you get a splendid omelet from Ms. Kellia. After breakfast head on over to get a luxurious massage from Desiree who knows how to work her magic. The pools at the Manor House are picture perfect looking over the ocean and this is where one can stop into the Jerk Shack and get amazing Jerk chicken which is my favorite. Get your chicken to go and sit in the pool at the bar being served by Mr. Akeim who makes exceptional drinks just tell him I sent you and if you miss him at the bar make sure you stop to hear him sing at the amphitheater. If one gets bored sitting pool, no worries there are plenty of games to play around and if you’re looking for someone to play games with look for a playmaker because they love to play games. Johnoy and Chad you had me at Jenga though you might have to watch out for Chad because he loves to win : ) Johnoy will always let you win, if you get a little warm jump back into the pool because they will join you and teach you how to play Jamaican dominoes or volley ball. Unless they already have a game going on in the pool then you want to join in on the outrageous fun and collect some points while doing so.In the evenings grab some dinner it does not matter which restaurant you eat at all the food is yummy. But the red snapper at Kelly’s is to die for kudos to the fish cook. Make sure you get early enough to make it to the amphitheater in time for the pre-show games and the shows. Okay, now at the amphitheater is where you really get to see how talented your playmakers are:You have Nakoy who makes presenting look easy oh and the games are exhilarating but one must go to see for themselves because I would not want to ruin the experience for anyone. Chad is astonishing with a huge heart and can move like Michael Jackson. Johnoy is in training and is going to make his mark as bright new playmaker. Tyron (TeeTee) can’t wait to see you on Broadway, he dances flawlessly with such passion and soul (New York does not know what they are missing out on). Shelly has this voice they can make angels weep, if she makes it to Las Vegas where she can perform she’ll be a millionaire, btw thanks for teaching my husband how to twerk. Jay Jay is astonishingly and beautiful, and Renaldo is incredible. I have to say that these group of people are more than performers and workers they open their hearts up and welcome you into their life and culture. I have never felt more sorrow and sadness when we had to leave Jamaica to come home when usually I am ready to go home before my vacation ends. I love these people and can’t wait to go back next year to see them all and the reunion with vacationers that we met along the way. One Love!
We stayed in the Butler village on the hill which was laid out beautifully and the rooms themselves were spacious but very dated. There was a large stain on the carpet in the bedroom which looked as if someone had previously been sick when getting out of bed. Although there was no odour as it had obviously been treated it was really offputting. The shower was leaking and was therefore very ineffective. I reported to reception that the pool area was not clean as someone had left empty bottles and containers next to the pool and they were there for several days, and once I told Reception they were removed the same day. The toilet also leaked and flooded our bathroom floor and was only repaired after we complained twice. The trip to the beach was not an issue as the hop was very frequent. However, the beach side was very disappointing and felt as if it belonged to a party crowd. We decided to have lunch once at Neptunes on the beach. The food was good but the noise from the music played VERY loudly on the beach really spoilt the occasion. Our Butlers, Scott and Jermaine were brilliant as were all the other members of staff, especially Nyron in Le Gourmand, Jody Ann in Reef restaurant, Ilene in the Vista and Daniel by Dinos - when we sat by the pool there he was so helpful and efficient. Finally, we would not return to Ochi. We have stayed at lots of other Sandals resorts, St Lucia, Antigua, Barbados and 4 others in Jamaica and found that Ochi was definitely bottom of the list. We transferred to Negril for the last 6 nights and that was absolutely top notch.
