Disappointing. Not 5 star hotel

The staff, public areas and food were good. Unfortunately the rooms are a little bit tired and the bathrooms - particularly the showers - are awful and in dire need of being refurbished. We had mainly tepid showers with very little water pressure for our entire stay except for 2 occasions when we had scalding hot water as the cold water to the shower was shut off. We were not the only people experiencing shower/water pressure problems. Maintenance came to our room to try to fix the problem several times. The hotel was also out of mint for a couple of days so we couldn't have mojito cocktails. Tonic water for the mini bar seemed to be a big problem despite us requesting it on the Sandals mini bar email before we arrived.

Beautiful, Private, Classy Resort

Every aspect of the resort is top quality. The food, the drinks and the privacy. No lines for anything. Staff checks on you every ten minutes while your on the beach and the setting, the decor, and the vibe are just wonderful.

Nice Sandals Just Not for US

This was our 8th different Sandals Vacation to different resorts. Although it was a nice resort and the Butler Service was great it just was not the right fit for us. Robert and Keneshea were our Butlers and they did a great job. The first room we were taken to was 251 which has a view of the Terrace Restaurant. We had to look to the left to see a beach view and the people in the restaurant could see right in the window. The room was also over a main service entrance so it was quite noisy early morning and late night. We were moved within 2 days since there was no immediate availability. Robert told us that he had to move someone else out of that room later in the week. Sandals should use this room as a training room or a departure room.We did a private tour with KnowJamaica Tours. It was fantastic. Javia was our driver and he was fantastic. If you do check out with Island Routes so you can leave the property. Great food at every restaurant! Some great people were Anneya, Dwayne, Oange, Roxanne, Mario,Kimberly and Natalia. One morning we were out of regular coffee in our room and was told they were out of packets but another person we talked with on the beach said they had 6. They were out of Champagne at the Beach Bar so I got mine out of my room and then they were out of cranberry juice. They were out of Red Stripe Light one afternoon. Our rum bottle was not replenished one day and when we called to get another bottle it was 4:00 and service stopped at 3:00. Thanks to the Wobbly Peacock for lending us a bottle. And to top it off the printer was out of ink when we went to print our boarding passes! The reason for this resort being our least favorite was not enough activities. We enjoy watching the pool games and volleyball. There was no swim up bar. We did not want to have to go next door everyday as some people did. It was too big next door. We thought tipping the beach waiters was not right since we have had waiters at most of the other resorts without tipping. One of the best things about this resort was the hot tub! We enjoyed our stay and glad we came. But just not the resort for us!

4th Stay With Some Positive (And Negative) Noticeable Changes

The Positives This was our 4th consecutive stay at Sandals Royal Plantation and we were so excited to see many of our favorite staff members greeting us upon our arrival! We are always so amazed to be recognized, and it truly makes us feel like we are coming “home” each year. Since the people truly do make this resort so very special, I’d like to start there. First, there were a few new faces and names since our previous visit that we can’t help but recognize for going above and beyond to make our trip a memorable one. Thank you to Dwayne, Courtney, Clayton and Larkland for your friendly service and smiling faces! Larkland learned our names immediately and always addressed us by name when we would sit down for lunch each day at the beach grill. It really made us feel special and welcome. Dwayne and Courtney never left you with an empty glass (or even a half-empty glass!), and we thank you for keeping our drinks flowing. And Clayton was always there with some friendly conversation and a warm greeting – we just felt so welcome by these new friends of ours from the very beginning! We were excited to arrive and learn that Orlando had been promoted to a butler position and enjoyed the pairing of Neil and Orlando as our butlers. We are easy-going clients, to say the very least, but they were always there for us when we needed them and brought smiles to our day – and even a couple of surprises for us during the week when we returned to our room! They are simply the best.As always, we can’t say enough about some of our favorites at the Wobbly Peacock. We just love seeing Richard, Orane and Coombs each night -- and they always greet us like we’re old friends. They always make us look forward to our pre-dinner drinks and appetizers because they are so attentive, fun and just such wonderful people to be around! The place just wouldn’t be the same without them, and we hope we get to see them for many more years to come! They truly make our trip extra special every year. Simon was our server one evening at the French restaurant, and he was so professional and efficient! We loved how well he kept the service moving along, and we appreciated being able to finish dinner more quickly than normal. We really appreciated his kind smile and service – it truly made for a fabulous dinner. Each morning, Winston would deliver our breakfast via room service and we just think he’s wonderful! He always takes the time to set the table beautifully (even apologizing one morning for not having a flower for our table due to the lack of rain the night before). He always takes such care with the table setting and we are always so impressed with his quiet, friendly demeanor. He always starts our day off just right! We appreciate him very much. One of the best surprises was finding out Adrian was back! He was always one of our favorites and we loved hearing he had returned to Royal Plantation. While we missed seeing his smiling face (and hearing his contagious laugh!) on the beach each day as a beach butler, it was wonderful to see him at the Terrace restaurant and have the opportunity to catch up! He is certainly an attribute to the resort. And our beach butlers – Cleon and Daniello – always there with a drink, a smile and a fist bump! To say these two must really love their jobs seems to be an understatement! Their energy and positive vibes are beyond contagious. Cleon amazes us with his ability to remember names and faces, too! He greeted us right away and not only remembered us, but seemed genuinely happy to have us back again. It made us feel so wonderful – and we were genuinely happy to see him again, too! It was a wonderful reunion to kick off a fun and fantastic week with these two. Thanks for everything!!The spa – what can I say, I had a fabulous massage (probably the best I’ve ever had!) and it’s all thanks to Rhona. She really paid attention to my concerns and took such wonderful care of me. I left feeling relaxed, rejuvenated and energized! The NegativesMy only criticism of the spa would be the 12.5% service charge, which is added to your bill. The reason I’m highlighting this aspect is because I was not made aware of the service charge when asked if I wanted to add a tip for my service. It was only after I added a generous tip that I was given the itemized receipt showing a service charge (which makes it seem like the tip is already ‘built in’ to the bill.) After such a great experience, I felt pretty uncomfortable bringing up that fact, so I actually left feeling slightly taken advantage of in that respect. I wish the spa would be more up front about the service charge and allow you to see the total bill before tipping, which in retrospect is something I should have asked to see, so that is partially my fault. But I was feeling so fulfilled and relaxed that I didn’t want to make a big deal out of it, despite the fact that it was really bothering me.The tea service – this was definitely a disappointment from previous years. They no longer offer the assortment of teas from years past, which was a really big let-down for us. We normally attend tea daily, but I opted out after the 2nd afternoon because of the lack of variety. I inquired with the servers about my favorite tea from past trips and they almost seemed annoyed with the question, which was disheartening. Overall, we feel the tea service has really slipped all-around and would love to see it brought back to the way it was, including having the ability to choose from an assortment of teas.It would be fun to have a few more surprises or thoughtful gestures from our butlers during our stay. As mentioned, we really do consider ourselves to be pretty low maintenance guests, but having a few extra ‘special’ gestures would have just added to the overall experience (especially since we don’t really use the butlers very much during our stay except to make dinner reservations.) We were celebrating a special milestone while at the resort, and while our butler team was aware of this celebration, the special day itself still went by without any gestures to help us celebrate or to help mark the occasion, which was a bit of a disappointment overall. We keep hearing rumors of a big renovation to the resort, but it looks like things have been put on hold. We really hope guests are kept up to speed on renovation plans – especially since it’s very likely sections will need to be closed for repairs/updates. With returning guests often booking as much as 2 years in advance, we hope we will be kept in the loop regarding construction projects and renovations, particularly if they are going to negatively impact future stays. And finally, while this is not exclusive to our stay at Royal Plantation, we were disappointed to arrive at the airport in Montego Bay to see the Sandals lounge was closed for remodeling. We had no idea this was happening, and it felt strange to just stand around in the lounge areas of the airport waiting for our ride to the resort. We definitely felt like we were in the way. It was just disappointing to not know about the construction ahead of time because while it seems like a small feature, the Sandals welcome lounge at the airport is one of the highlights of our trip! It’s always fun and exciting to emerge from Customs into the lounge where all of your worries seem to fade away and you can really kick off your Sandals vacation experience. We understand the importance of renovations, of course, and we look forward to enjoying the updated lounge on our next visit, but we feel Sandals could have extended some form of communication prior to our trip so we would know what to expect upon arrival. All in all, we can’t wait to go back! It was another very enjoyable and relaxing stay, despite a few disappointments. We still had a wonderful vacation and look forward to returning again next year.

Great first time visit

This was our first trip to Jamaica and first time at Sandals. This resort is small and quiet with only about 74 rooms. However, there is plenty to do and see. You can take many excursions, dive, snorkel, use their paddle boards, sail, etc. It only has 3 restaurants, but you have access to the Sandals Ochi which is next door and can travel over there to their 8=9 restaurants which we did. Food was very good for an all inclusive. What really makes this place very good in my opinion is the people. The staff is excellent catering to all of your needs. We used the butler service and Sean and Gladstone our butlers took care of us by making everything we wanted to do very easy because they took care of. One of the staff Coombs was very helpful too along with Tevan the water aerobics guy. There are many more staff that I cannot remember names, but went out of their way to make us feel special. We will go back.
