Old world charm at its best.

We went to Sandals Royal Plantation at the end of April. Our stay was fantastic! We have gone to Sandals Whitehouse (South Coast) three times but thought we’d try this one since Whitehouse is doing renovations that look a bit too modern for us. The resort is like Whitehouse but concentrated! The layout is beautiful and still has a wonderful old world charm. The resort is on the side of a hill and the landscape feels a little less tamed, which added to the ambiance. It's a smaller resort but that's what we like. It wasn't noisy, just relaxing. The drive to this resort is about the same length as going to Whitehouse (about an hour and a half) but the scenery is beautiful and the roads are good. The shuttle driver pointed out many interesting places as we went by so the time passed quickly. The food was excellent; we don't even like fish, but we had fish for almost every meal. The only thing we missed from Whitehouse was the Cafe de Paris. Cafe de Paris had take out lattes, espresso, and frozen Alexanders. Also, if we just wanted a light pastry-ish snack it was very hard to get. Our room had a great east-facing view and was very private. We thought we'd miss having a balcony, but the room had some really comfy chairs that we could put by the French balcony, and with the morning sun, it was just like our own private patio. The entertainment at night was great! Sitting on the terrace and sipping a beverage provided front row seats for enjoying it.The staff helped us feel very at home and the service was excellent all around. Everyone was friendly and helpful. Our butlers: Neil and Orlando, along with Clayton and Adrian were absolutely fantastic, and Karena (from the Wobbly Peacock) should be a butler because she is so exceptional with people. There was talk of some renovations in the works, but we hope they don't lose the old world charm when they do it. We plan on going back next year.

Pure relaxation in a beautiful setting

This resort is the perfect size and setting for a quiet relaxing vacation. Food: We are diamond members and have been to many Sandals, i would say the food here beats them all (kudos to Mario the F&B manager). We were a bit concerned because there are so few restaurants to choose from, but because the a la carte menus change daily, it is almost as if you are at a different restaurant each day. Jamaican night buffet was wonderful as was the Papillon restaurant. Loved the option of either buffet or a la carte for breakfast. Wine was great! Bartenders at the Wobbly Peacock were awesome.Rooms: the rooms are quite outdated, but the views are wonderful and the beds and linens are super comfortable. A couple of things to beware of, most rooms do not have balconies and even thought the windows open wide to the ocean it is not the same as having a balcony to sit on. The bathtub in our room was the size of a small motel bathtub and the enamel was peeling off - definitely not Sandals standards at all (they did offer to change our room, however the size of the tub is ridiculous especially when they put flowers and try to make it a romantic thing, its hard to fit 2 people!). Bar was always well stocked as were the amenities.Beach: there are 2, the West which is busier and crowded, and the East which is the "smoking" beach. We preferred the quiet of the east beach and never saw anyone smoking. Suggestion to management - put a sign saying "quiet beach" as it sometimes is hard in this small setting to find a quiet place to nap and relax. Add a few umbrellas or palapas as well and it would be perfect. Beach service was awesome, I think Cleon is one of their best employees, he never stops and he is always around when you need a drink or even food from the grill. I was amazed that he knew all the guests names right away.Butlers - personally i think the butlers at this resort are useless. We almost felt obliged to find something for them to do because we had to pay them at the end of the trip, so we asked them to get us lunch from Ochi. The butler service at the other Sandals is much different, where they reserve your beach chair and there are no beach butlers so your personal butler is more useful.Spa: was wonderful, thanks for all the great treatments Marva and Kayana.Pool: not a resort for anyone who prefers the pool over a beach, this is 100% a beach resort, the pool is super tiny and no swim up bar.All in all the staff here are super friendly and warm, the beach and ocean are stunning, the food is great. Not a party place at all, even though Ochi is right next door. This Sandals is perfect for regenerating your body and mind.

The Royal Treatment

We took a private transfer from the airport because we wanted to stop at Scotchies, which if you like jerk you should check out Scotchies in Montego Bay.Upon arrival we were greeted, in typical Sandals fashion, with smiling faces, a cold towel and a glass of champagne. Check-in was effortless and after a few minutes we met our butler Marvin, who showed us to our room. Our room was a Plantation Oceanfront Butler Suite (PRR) on the second floor of the east wing. The RoomOthers have mentioned the rooms being dated, however we thought the older furniture gives the room character. If we want modern design, we can stay at a W. When we go to the Caribbean we want the room to reflect where we are. The only issue is the bathroom - the water pressure in the shower one afternoon was so bad that it could be considered water torture but that evening everything was fine. The room was always kept clean and we always had a full refrigerator with everything we needed. The lack of a balcony didn't bother us either, we just opened up the French doors and sat in our little seating area and enjoyed the views and the sounds of the ocean. The ResortThis place really has an old world charm to it and the landscaping is beautiful. With only 74 rooms it is one of the smallest Sandals, but with exchange privileges with Ochi you really get the best of both worlds. There are a lot of stairs at this resort so keep that in mind if that bothers you.WiFiWe were actually pleasantly surprised at how good the basic WiFi worked, there was no need to upgrade at all.The BeachThe beach is divided up into two sides, east and west. We spent most of our time on the west beach and never had a problem getting chairs in the shade. The water was calm and soothing. While relaxing on the beach, you will never want for a thing - the beach butlers will get you anything you need and there is a restaurant and bar on the west beach. The FoodWe ate at the Terrace three nights, Le Papillon, Le Gourmand (Ochi), returning guest dinner, and the Royal Grill. The food at the Terrace was very good although it could be slow some nights. One of the best things I ate all week was the jerk season snapper topped with crab meat at the Terrace. Le Papillon and Le Gourmand are French restaurants and both are very good. The Royal Grill is supposed to be a seafood restaurant but some nights there are more seafood options at the Terrace.Breakfast and lunch at the Terrace is both a la carte and buffet. Our first day there we went for lunch and were never offered the a la carte menu but all you have to do is ask. Our favorite lunch of the week was when we asked our butlers if there was a way to get a traditional Jamaican meal and boy did they deliver - escovitch fish, chicken curry, oxtail stew, pumpkin rice and bammys. Everything was delicious! The Royal TreatmentAs other reviews state, what makes this place so special is the staff! They are top notch!Marvin and Oren - our butlers who were always there whenever we asked for anything and checked in with us at least once a day. They also decorated the room for my wife's birthday, which she absolutely loved. In addition to the traditional Jamaican food, they also picked up food for us from the Jerk Shack at Ochi.Daniello and Cleon - the beach butlers made sure we were taken care of while sitting on the beach relaxing. These guys work very hard but are always smiling and always make sure you have a drink in your hand.Coombs, Karkore (sp?) and the bar staff at the Wobbly Peacock are all great. We spent every night in here and had a great time and great conversations with the staff, especially Karkore. They all made us feel welcome. The wait staff at the restaurants were also good for the most part. We really loved the size of the Royal Plantation and liked the option of hopping over to Ochi whenever we wanted. This was our 4th Sandals and we will definitely return here at some point. We still want to check out some of the other resorts first.

Didn't know what to expect. Never been to a Sandals resort before. Small and private is what I prefer. This Resort fit the bill perfectly. Wonderful decor, beautiful grounds, great housekeeping. (Thank You Camille)The only place I have ever stayed where my white socks did not get soiled walking around in my great suite, with a great view of the beach and ocean. Butlers Chase and Richard were friendly, helpful, and conscientious. The nightly towel displays were amazing. The entire staff were friendly, kind and courteous. You couldn't stay grouchy here if you tried. If you had a "situation" it was handled immediately. The guys doing the tie dye class were fantastic. Nightly entertainment was enjoyable. We highly recommend this wonderful resort,
