wish I was there right now

The staff at this wonderful resort make your vacation a very personal experience and they remember you from year to year and work very hard to make your vacation as pleasant as possible. Certainly the bathrooms need a bit of sprucing up and hot water is scarce when everyone is taking a shower but every room has a view of the Caribbean Sea except perhaps for the Orchid suites. Cares float away simply put. There are more than enough lounge chairs on the beaches now and one can even play on the swings that are in the water on the East side or the West side. Oh to feel like a kid again! Yoga can be done on the pier some evenings during the week and even a short half hour water aerobics can be had up to 3 times a week in the pool. There are no activities on the weekend however. Live performers entertain until 10pm every evening. One cannot beat the ambiance of dining at the Grille right next to the water but it should be open more often than it is. Lamar made us a special Jamaican flavoured pasta which was to die for, spicy but not too much spice. Some touches appear to be missing like the exquisite coconut chips that used to be served in the Wobbly Peacock in the evening and the loose leaf tea served in a high tea style from 4 to 5pm. Latoya, Winston, and Simon at Papillon make the resort absolutely shine. Papillon even prepared the wahoo and the mahi mahi that we caught deep sea fishing. Lancelot and Michael are very skilled at what they do in the evening and at breakfast. Breakfast is a cut above other resorts featuring a buffet and a menu with wonderful fresh quality. You will never go thirsty on the beach with the consummate service of Cleon, Daniello and Romerio. . We are so happy to have Adrian back, his wonderful spirit brightens any day. Our butlers Fiona and Orayne are highly appreciated and attentive. We were treated to a candlelit dinner in our room on our last evening which was absolutely wonderful. Frank and Mario work very hard to keep the guests pleased and their efforts shine. We will soon come back.

Some points worth noting.

Royal Plantation is a fine resort and it is unlikely anyone will regret booking a holiday here. Hopefully here is some additional information that is worth reading before booking.* We stayed in the one refurbished room (112) and also spent 3 nights in a non-refurbished room. The refurbished room had a good modern feel, but wasn't quite as plush as the tired room. Frankly, if you care about the quality of your light switch, don't stay here until the refurbishment is complete. * the west side has better views than the east side. * butler service is an interesting sales hook, but not really needed as all staff are very helpful.* the food is good but not great. However the choice is good, particularly once you have got on the bus to the other resort. * during the day the resort is quiet. If you want games and music don't stay here. * when we stayed 70% of the other guests were 55+, the rest honeymooners. It made for a good mix.* the service was great but not exemplary. For example early morning the manager would see me reading and come and say hello, but not offer me a cup of coffee. * tours are expensive but good. Without them you could spend your whole time on site, which seems a waste. Overall, it is a good safe choice for a predictably great holiday. Ultimately though, it just felt a bit too disconnected from the rest of Jamaica.

Incredible Experience

Visited this gorgeous Sandals all inclusive property for the 4th consecutive year. It never disappoints! This resort only has 74 units and provides it guests with an unparalleled level of service. Each room has that old world charm and wonderful ocean view. The gardens are impeccably maintained and the food is superb. But the real beauty of this resort lies with the staff. They are so welcoming and kind that you feel you are at home with family. Everyone greets you with a smile and asks if you are enjoying yourself and do you need anything. The attention to detail is first rate and there is nothing they won't do for you! Our two Butlers, Hector and Olivia are unbelievable! They took care of our every need with such love and caring. The beach butlers, Cleon and Donatello always were there to make sure we had a beverage and the beach staff, Germaine and Marlo ensured we had comfortable chairs and towels. I have never been around a group of people who are so happy and willing to make your experience truly magical!

Very Quiet

The Sandals Royal Plantation is a small and intimate resort, and was very different than what I expected. I almost feel guilty writing about the little flaws of the resort because we were very well taken care of. But equally, I will try to give an accurate account of what it's like to stay at this property. Overall this is a good choice of hotel. It is much smaller than I expected, MUCH quieter than I expected and we - in our 30's - were among the youngest guests to be sure. I don't think I appreciated quite how sleepy the hotel would be before arriving. I'm sure this is perfect for some, who would love the peace and quiet. In the lobby, this small intimacy is very welcoming. Check-in was smooth and friendly. We were immediately taken to one of the restaurants for lunch which we both enjoyed. Our room was - as expected - outdated and needing basic upkeep. We were in the 'Oceanfront Great House Butler Suite' room type. Paint needs touching up, tiles need fixed, the furniture is dull and the style is blah. Despite the appearance I really liked the layout with a walk-in closet off the bathroom for getting ready and I found the bed very comfortable. The view from our room was beautiful. The two beaches on the resort appeared smaller to me than on the website. There was never a lack of loungers, but there was a lack of loungers in the shade. That's one thing this resort really lacks are those great big day beds with a canopy over top. We saw 2 on the whole property. (There are many of them at the sister property, the Ochi Beach but they had reserved signs on them. All but one was empty.) The loungers on the beach also lacked cushions. The pool is tiny and it was very cold so we spent more time in the hot tub (basically the same size as the pool). Because the resort is on a hill it could get windy out at the pool which felt cold. I expect that wind would feel wonderful at another time of year. There were always loungers available at the pool. There is a swim up bar pool at Ochi that is much bigger and fun (still no shade though!)The food was very good at each restaurant we tried. On New Years Eve there was a buffet and even that was really yummy, way above typical buffet quality. Le Papillon was my favorite. The bar bites in the Wobbly Peacock pub were on the small side. We ordered room service on our first night and it took 1 hour 15 minutes to get a burger. It tasted nice, but we didn't order room service again. Full disclosure- we did not use our Butler phone except once to change a dinner reservation. We saw our butler in person throughout the day and with the resort being so very small it just seemed...silly? I don't recall seeing other guests toting theirs around either but perhaps they did. The only time we wished we had the butler phone was when we spent the day at the sister property. Our butler was lovely, funny, accommodating and not pushy. His name was Audell and I liked him. I believe he did everything he was meant to do, including having a hot bath waiting for us on our return to the room on our last night which was a lovely touch, I'll admit. Having said that I did not leave this holiday feeling that the service was above and beyond service we have received at other, non-butler resorts. I mean, had we wanted to call the butler each and every time we wanted our drinks refilled I suppose we could have, but it seemed like an unnecessary inconvenience. Someone did come round the pool/beach to offer us drinks and refills but not at any greater speed or with any more panache than other high end all inclusive resorts I've stayed in. So, I can't say I really 'get' the difference between Sandals and it's competitors. But I can say that each and every server/bar attendant/staff member we encountered was pleasant and friendly, without exception. My husband used the dive services and said they were fair. The evening entertainment is slow and cheesy. It was enjoyable, but is a lot like elevator music. One evening we went to the sister property Ochi Hill Side to the Rabbit Hole bar. The singer had great stage presence and the place had a fun atmosphere. There are no day time entertainment activities at Plantation but we did go across to Ochi Beach and thought the entertainment team were great and we had a laugh in the main pool. So if it's a VERY quiet holiday you're looking for Plantation might be the place for you! We have paid less and had an equally good experience at other resorts.

4 Incredible Days...

First time and can't wait to come back before we even leave. What a place! The people are amazing...from butlers Sean and Cleon serving us continuous libations at the beaches. Totally awesome. What can we say about the spa!! The best 3 days of treatments of our lives. Simone is truly exceptional. Georgianna (sp) pampered my wife's sunburn and gave her a wonderful wrap. I had the rainbows massage with incredible oils that rejuvenated my winter worn skin. Ask for Simone! Already planning our next visit. If you want an adult only resort that will pamper you...this is the place. Gregg & Tracey
