A group of us who work in the service industry stayed for a week at this location, and we wish we could have stayed longer. The service was excellent, the staff courteous and helpful, the facilities and grounds were well kept and the food was excellent. There was always plenty to do and LOTS to eat. The buffet features something for everyone, and includes several different Jamaican specialties (YUM!) on a daily basis.I plan to return to this location again.BTW, for the person from NYC who complained there were "bugs" all over the liquor bottles: those are bees, not bugs. They are a natural part of the environment and are attracted to the sweet smell from the alcohol and from the soda machine nozzles. "Bugs" are like the cockroaches you find swarming everywhere in NYC.
Jamaica in August is indeed hot, and the sun isn't guaranteed to shine every day, but my sister & I had an absolute blast at this resort! The staff were very friendly, accommodating, and polite beyond our expectations. Their smiles welcomed us, and made us feel right like the pampered guests we were. The food was incredible, and your choices at the Coral Café (the buffet restaurant) included no less than 10 hot dishes, salad/fruit bar, bread bar, dessert bar, plus soups, and chef prepared egg, pasta and sandwich bars. SO much good food! For fine dining, you also have the choice of 4 other locals, and a couple of patio stands providing pizza, jerk chicken and snacks. We took a number of excursions, all planned in the lobby by knowledgeable ladies who worked for JTB, where our transportation, what to bring along ie: water shoes, swim suit, sun block, was all arranged. We only had to show up at the lobby doorway, and would be picked up by name. I have to say, August was the perfect time to visit, as it wasn't crowded, and we enjoyed meeting many Jamaican guests, who had come for a weekend or longer. The Entertainment Crew were SO much fun, and gently persuaded us guests into dancing outside, with their talented boys and girls on the patio or in Bling, the nightclub. I really loved the dancers, who were so very talented!I'm sure to return, as this resort left a lasting impression. MJ & Kate
Smalldirtysame old, limited, food options and they aren't all even available every nightRude staffBugs all over liquor bottles and soda gunsYou've been warned There has to be at least 100 places between this bad choice and the airport. Don't make the same mistake we did.
Pro’s: Great price, nice resort, decent food, friendly staff, nice room Con’s: 2 hours from the airport and Internet excursions, no night life (partying) The staff was very accommodating and helpful. The food and alcohol selection was decent. We enjoyed the resort and the décor it has compared to the other resorts that the bus dropped other people off at on our 2 hour trip to our resort. Our resort grounds were better bar far than the other resorts we were able to see. If you come to this resort, try to make the Thursday night dinner on the pier. It is a 7 course meal that was very nice to attend. Also make reservations at their Japanese Steak house when you get there. Our stay was nice and relaxing. I was in bed by 10:30 to 11:00 because it was quite dull and I had nothing to do on the resort besides eating, drinking and sitting in the pool. The resort has a daily listing of activities it tries to host. The barn fire on the beach was canceled because it rained earlier in the day. The drive-in movie night had technical difficulties for about 1 and a half hours before I went up there and figured out what the issue was, and then they played a movie that was very dull and uninteresting. This is good for some people, because this is what they were expecting. This was not what I was expecting at all, which was a bit disappointing to me. Also, the resort has a list of local excursions that you will never know about unless you call ahead and ask the concierge. The Internet excursions are really based on Montego Bay location which is a 2 hour bus ride away. Beware of booking the Internet excursions prior to calling the resort and asking them about their non-advertised excursion list, which they will email you.
We visited the Jewel Dunns River Beach Resort and had an absolutely amazing time at the resort. The staff were very attentive and friendly. The food was very good at the different restaurants, our favorites were the Aquamarina Grill, Coral Cafe, the Moonstone and Platinum which is a formal restaurant we enjoyed our dinners there. We loved the fact there were always options to eat and the pools had swim up bars. They had night beach parties and the overall entertainment was always pretty good. It is a smaller resort but very intimate and everyone treats you well. To make our time in Jamaica even better our private transfer and tour operators TCJ Tours, did a fantastic job. They took us to our resort in a very comfortable vehicle, fully air conditioned and we had a very polite and fun driver. We did our tours with them as well and can't say enough good things. We will definitely be returning to Jamaica and this resort.
