If you're going for the nude beach? Forget it. Nothing to get excited over. Some people get the impression it's a swingers resort. False. Maybe in the 1970s?We went in February 2016. We stayed for six nights. We hit some bad weather. But you can't blame that on the resort. During the three or four days of rain the staff at the resort suggested lots of nice places to visit and certainly did their best to feed us and serve us good rum punch.Even if you hit some bad weather or not, we have enjoyed visiting Jamaica renting cars from Salem Car Rental in Salem Runaway Bay. That's the plug for them. But it is worth renting the car and getting outside of the resort. There are many public beaches. Winnifred Beach for one. James Bond for another. We were sorry to see Reggie Beach become private. You'll find good Jamaican patties in Port Antonio. And you will discover the real Jamaica. My first impression of Jamaica a few years previous had been terrible. There were beggars all over in Ocho Rios. And now foreigners are "stealing Bob Marley's land." I won't rehash the experience or the politics.Club Ambiance in Runaway Bay was a different experience. We enjoyed it. Especially when we left the compound people were very nice to us very polite and very welcoming. In the village, we went into a side street only to learn it was somebody's private property. But they were very warm and welcoming. Asked us who we were and where we came from. And even offered to make supper, for a price. No one was pushy about anything anywhere in the village. That was important for me.First of all the staff at Club Ambiance were awesome. The drinks were free flowing. The food was great; 3-4 stars. You have to remember Ambiance only serves 90 rooms. So it didn't have a fancy smancy restaurant. In the morning there was someone who hand-made omelets. And someone who hand-made stir-frys in the evening. I don't even think the food got repetitive over 7 days. You cannot consider Club Ambiance any more than three stars. If you can accept that you will enjoy yourself. If you want all 5 stars go on down the beach where there are hundreds of rooms. I don't know what kind of service you get there. It looked nice but they wouldn't let us in not even to visit their gift shop.Speaking of gift shops, at our resort we had the impression that the people who ran the gift shop did not care. I think they must run multiple gift shops and are just trying to make money. $5 for Rolling Papers? Get serious. As for the management of Ambiance? It's run on a budget. It's three stars. We did have a problem with hot water. Apparently the breaker would blow frequently. We read that on TripAdvisor. But all you had to do was go to the front counter. They would take care of it as fast as they possibly could. It happened once or twice? We had a nice room. Maybe it needed updating? I'm sure it was top notch in the 1980s. But the bed linen was clean, the bathroom was clean, the floors were clean and I'm OCD about cleanliness. I was a little ticked off when I found I had to pay to rent a lock for the safe. Oh well, three stars. There are basically three mini beaches - lagoons. It's all man-made. Just outside the breakwater it is all Coral. We had a great time snorkeling. Go to Costco and buy snorkeling gear. But it's big enough for a 90-room resort. All in all it's a quaint little place. I would love to go back there. We met some very nice people who are regulars.
My husband and I traveled here on 8/1/2016 for a 5 night stay. The resort is not in good shape at all. We had a serious ant problem in our bathroom and they did come and spray but it did not help. The water pressure is horrible as well. Overall the room wasn't too bad. Now for the actual resort, it is very outdated and old but you can see the potential in it. It seems as though not many people visit this resort. When we checked in there were only two other couples there. By the time we left there was a total of 18 people there. The property and rooms were very clean and the people were awesome! A lot of the advertised activities never actually happened. I guess since the resort was empty they didn't feel the need to follow the posted activity schedule. If you are looking for a place that is fun and has a lot going on this is not the resort for you. If you just want to relax then this will work for you. The food was OK. Nothing special and not really authentic Jamaican food. The jerk chicken tasted like baked barbecue chicken, and we ate chicken every single day! Also the beach is VERY small and there is nothing dividing the nude beach from the regular beach except a rope ha! Would I return to this resort? Yes because the people were so nice. All this resort needs is some upgrades and a better food selection and I would have been happy. The upgrades will bring in more people.
We checked into this hotel randomly on the strip. We were happy to be accommodated quickly when we got there after several hours of travel. The hotel is classified as a 3 star so expectations where no more than that. Here is a true star evaluation of the hotel:Location: ****Cleanliness: ****Food variety: **Food quality: ****Room: ***Service: *****Pool: *****Beach: ***Hotel is definitely dated and needs some work. Common areas are clean. The room was cleaned daily and the bed was comfortable. We did struggle with the shower at times cause the hot water would kick out at times. We had a great view of the pool and ocean. The food variety is very limited. Since it is fairly a small resort, I guess this was to be expected that they have 3-4 dishes to choose from; however, the food quality was very good. I have to say that the staff was amazing. They were always friendly and service was great. When you get good service from staff it makes a huge difference with the stay.
My baby and I was here over the emancipation weekend. It was fantastic. The staff was amazing and friendly. Room and bathrooms were well put together. Friday and Saturday night was awesome. The weekend was worth it it
This all inclusive resort needs immediate attention. I waited an hour and half to get my room after check in and it turned out the resort only had a few people. I read terrible reviews but like i said it has been on my list to visit and so i went and was extremely disappointed but put the best outside as i was already there paid so much i could have stayed at my fav Gran Bahia which is only 2 mins away or check out one of the Jewels. The best thing about Club Ambiance is a catchy misleading name. No entertainment, limited food little variety which was never served at the stated times, big room small bathroom with outdated furniture and decor towels are old and bad colour in Jamaican terms. The place is just not appealing maybe it's just a place that used to be nice but low maintenance poor management could be negative factors. Its the first resort i have ever been where the staff come and eat as if its a cafe they dont even care to wait until all guests eat omg. Step it up or close out!
