After clearing customs, we immediately saw a man holding a Jewel sign. He directed us to the young lady that checked our transfer and sent us to the JTL bus. The driver was super nice, the bus had good air conditioning and music playing. We quickly filled up the bus and were on our way. Our driver was very informative and almost like a tour guide. As soon as we arrived at Jewel, we checked in with no wait in line. We were offered to upgrade our room categories, which we did, and the whole process took only a few seconds. We were escorted to the room with the bell man. Everything was great. Plunge Pool concierge suite with a King and 2 singles for the kids. The room had a fully enclosed bathroom, 2 TVs, a minibar/coffee station and liquor dispensers on the wall. The plunge pool had a nice patio with trees for privacy. It was lovely. We were in room 1107. It was close to the pool, beach and water park. The room included room service, we never used but it was a nice touch. The concierge called us several times just to make sure everything was going well and to see if we needed anything. One day our TV remote wasn't working and maintenance came right away with new batteries. We loved Court Jesters for lunch. We ate there more than once, it was so good. The Platinum restaurant was very nice. The children were very impressed with their meals and our waitress was a gem. She was so nice to our whole family especially the children. We ate breakfast there once and it was fabulous. The buffet was good on all occasions. We liked the live music etc during dinner. We ate at the Moonstone one night, everything was delicious and we could hear some of the the live music from the poolside area. The water park was so fun. There was a nice snow cone hut, a bar/food counter, gift shop and lockers area. Everything was clean and the lifeguards were very good. We loved the slides and the lazy river! Several times people came around and asked if we needed anything. Can't say enough good things about it. The beach was the nicest I've seen in Jamaica. Tons of soft sand, plenty of chairs, shade, people asking if you need anything, wonderful lifeguards. Our daughter got sunburned and the lifeguard went to find aloe for her and it immediately helped her. We really appreciated someone going out of their way like that. We took our own snorkeling gear for the kids and they were snorkeling everyday. We fed the fish banana and a piece of bagel. It was awesome.Definitely go to Arts and Crafts with Clive. We learned a lot at his painting class. Check out was a breeze. Return transfer was as expected. The bus played the movie Cool Runnings which was also nice. If I had 1 suggestion, it would be to have the pool table equipment to be signed out at the bar vs. the lobby. Or set a rental time. We often saw nobody was playing after breakfast or lunch and it was actually signed out. I am guessing the people who were playing it every evening must have signed it out and kept it even when not using to ensure they had it to their disposal that night.
Recently spent our 5th year in a row at Jewel Runaway Bay and can honestly say it just keeps getting better and better. The friendliness of the staff and managment making us feel so welcomed and comfortable is amazing. Cannot honestly understand many of the negative comments about this resort from people. If you are expecting a 5 star resort than don't come here. The people couldn't be more friendly and helpful, rooms are a little dated but very clean and comfortable. Kudo's to our housekeeper Yvonne on this trip. Food was very good from the awesome pizza to the grill. Japanese was awesome. Buffet is a little small but good. Must try the Great Escape Restaurant on their golf course. Cannot thank the bartenders enough for making hanging out with them so enjoyable. A big nod to Tomiek, Jason, Lorrey, Alshayne, Marcus, Kerrol plus the rest of the crew. Sad to see some friends that left but new ones were made. Big thanks to Chrissy and Frederick in the buffet for everything as well as our servers and host like Lloye, Ann-Marie, Nicole, and the rest of the crew there. Grounds and beach and pools are kept immaculate. Water park is a great addition especially for the kids but us big kids love the lazy river and slide's also. If you are looking for a great resort, especially with kids this place is a must. The staff with the kids are awesome especially Teenie Tiny Toni. Cannot sell this place enough. Finally a HUGE thanks to the General Manager Scott Robins and his wife Trisha for making us feel so welcome and comfortable, you guy's are awesome and it's great to have you as friends. Can't wait to see you again. This resort is a family resort and even though we travel here with friends and family with no kids all these reasons are why we came back. This was Jewel's 5th year running this resort and also our 5th year helping them celebrate. Many more good years to come. Thanks again Scott and Jewel for a great vacation.
The negative reviews of this wonderful resort never cease to amaze me. This is our 3rd. trip in the last few years and it has always been wonderful and only gets better.Trip from airport was only negative. Driver packed us in like sardines plus there were 2 loudmouths under the influence of some substance who impressed everyone with their "knowledge" of everything until mercifully they got off at a resort before JRB.Met by the ever smiling Kirk with a welcome Home greeting, cocktail and cool face towel. Who could ask for more than that. Registration went quickly, room was ready even though it was early, and off we went in capable hands of Kirk. OceanFront Concierge Jr. Suite Rm 1022. Great room in the best building on property in my opinion. Great view, large patio, handy to everything with large shower (love the jets!), well stocked refrigerator maintained daily with new supplies, coffee pot, lg. screen wall mounted TV, and liquor. Only strange factor was Vodka was in a Rum bottle(illegal in NJ Scott).LOLHousekeeping was great. Room cleaned and supplied daily, turn down service and smiles when meeting them.I have to mention the excellence in Customer Service before moving on to Food Service. Have read reviews where folks were not satisfied with various elements of hotel. A Concierge called every day and taslked to one of us to inquire about opur stay and if we needed anything, Questions answered and request met. I asked for a corkscrew. Within 2 minutes, someone from room service called to assure me it was on the way. Two more minutes, and there it was-delivered with a smile by a young man from Room Service. Speaking of Room Service. Ordered Breakfast one morning, Arrived promptly,as ordered, and more food than 2 people needed. Buon Apetite! We enjoyed any meal we had at this resort and there are more than enough options available every day,Coral Cafe - main dining facilitywith buffet service. Plenty of variey of both american and Jamaican food with staff eager to please. Made to order eggs of any type including omlets plus waffles, pancakes, etc. Plus for me was the variety and amount of fresh fruit every morning- juicy and delicious. Egg Boy was on Holiday which was a plus for me. I believe I am one of the few guests who find his constatnt chatter annoying. Enjioyed the peace and quiet.Keviere and Oshinne(trainee but my spelling may be off) were both excellent servers.Whitney Green is a superb representative of the resort in all the most positive ways. Moonstone- Italian Rest. Meal was delicious. Salmon cooked as I liked it with delicious freshly prepared mushroom Risotto. Jervane was a top notch server with a great personality.Platinum- Food was good but the presentation was so-so. I am sure it is great for kids but falls short for adults in my opinion. Soup served by a cowgirl pulling bottles out of her holsters? Lamb was overcooked, veggies were good. Wife had beef which was good. It was extremely loud between a birthday party and too loud of a piano so we asked to be moved to a quieter table and were immediately accomodated. Monique was excellent server.Jerk Chicken pastry for appetizer was over the top delicious.Grill, as always, serves up delicious burgers, paninys (sp?) and Jerk Chicken almost 24 hrs a day. Did not eat at Jade or pizza rest. this trip but other guests were real positive in their comments. Before moving on from food, cudos to Chef Frederick. I was so glad to see he was still there. Professional and dedicated Chef but more importantly one of the nicest gentleman in Jamaica. If you are not happy with the delicious food, let him know. Saw him on second morning there and mentioned that I was anticipating his great patties before I left home and could not find any. They were on the buffet that noon.Cannot neglect the Lifeguards starting with my friend Joseph Mullings. Enjoyed talking with him and learning he now has a son. Hoping that his little boy grows up to be half the man his father is. Respect Joseph. His protege Michael has big shoes to fill but is a great asset also. This has been much too long but deserved by this fine resort. Beach and pool servers all great, grounds kept immaculate, and beautiful beach raked frequently. Thank you Scott for a great team of people at a wonderful Jamaican resort.
This is was our second time staying at the hotel. Since our first stay in 2017 there have been some upgrades to the hotel; the gym machines are better, the wifi was better, there are more loungers at the water park and natural umbrellas on the beach. There is also an air conditioned office for your reps making meeting them more private and comfortable. The food is still of a good standard in the buffet restaurant and the aquamarine grill is still serving tasty jerk chicken and burgers. The menus in the other restaurants could do with a revamp; especially the à la carte where the dishes and presentation style are in my view a little outdated. We were able to get to the manager's cocktail party this time which really is a nice touch; here you will see how much the staff care about the guest experience, the property and the whole Jewel family. You can even win free gifts in the raffle. The Monday night beach party was a lot of fun for all the family and a great celebration of Jamaican traditions. Nightly entertainment was of various quality but gladly always something on and each entertaining their own way. Our favourites were the Steel Pan Band and the crab racing! The beach is kept very clean; there is marine life by way of a reef where we all enjoyed bathing and snorkelling with the tropical fish. Our daughter who is eight enjoyed feeding the fish with tiny bits of bread - they come right up to say hello! There's also a water centre where you can hire snorkels, kayaks, go out in a glass bottom boat etc. The water park was another huge hit and a lovely alternative scene for resort days. The slides are a lot of fun for 8+ and for those younger there is a perfect little 'island' with plenty of space for parents to keep an eye. The pools are of a good standing too, one great for little ones with a swim up bar and a bigger one for older kids and adults. The room was a good size, two queen beds for our family of three. Enough towels and comfy beds, air con worked great. Fridge stocked daily, sand swept up so quickly. Cable TV channels showing the usual. My only complaint would be that our room took a while to materialise on arrival; both our excusions hit snags (bus went without us one day, another didn't go ahead due to low numbers, but we were compensated); we waited 4 days for a plug for the sink; music from the gym woke us (too) early each morning. Staff were very apologetic and keen to help solve problems but I think it fair to say resolution was not quick and often only on third or forth time of asking. Not great, but being kept waiting whilst drinking rum chillin' at the beach isn't so bad. It's a great mid size family resort. Warm, welcoming, good value and a slice of paradise you'll not forget. The waterparkis excellent for kids, the rum flows freely, and the staff are great.
My family ( wife and 2 kids - 11 and 12yr old) stayed in late July 2017. Wonderfully clean room - and super comfortable bed. We stayed in the new deluxe wing and had 2 day beds brought in for the girls - and the room was large enough for us to have lots of room. Excellent housekeeping.Food was wonderful - and the night time entertainment was fantastic! A must see.The water park and slides are always a hit with the kids - and adults too.The self service laundry- very reasonably priced- always comes in handy when you have kids.
