Location: Beachfront, an 80 minute drive from the airport and 30 minutes from Ocho Rios.
My wife and I stayed in a ground floor suite at the end of the building near the pool and beach area. Our family group totalled almost 40 people ranging from kids to seniors, and everyone was relaxed within 4 hours on property. Our stay was from Friday afternoon to Sunday, but we did not find that location to be noisy. The room was clean, but the furniture drawers showed poor workmanship, and the room chair cushions were worn flat. The A/C in the front/living room was great, but the bedroom unit was struggling and the maintenance team tried to sort it out over 2 days that I reported the issue. The hotel later advised me that they replaced the unit the day after we left. Both rooms had good cable TV, and the stocked mini bar was a very nice touch. The shower was roomy, but the toilet space was a close. The bath robes were a nice touch of luxuriousness, and the double sink was a welcome must-have.Overall, the room felt comfortable and orderly, and the king size bed was quite comfortable. The only real negative was that the 4th bed was a roll-away with a lumpy mattress.Eating at the sushi restaurant was a mostly enjoyable dining experience, though our chef did grate the nerves a bit with her "Hell no!" punctuations during her time of service. The property had a relaxed feel, helped by the ease of access to beach towels, drinks service, and music in the background. The beach was very nice, and the bartenders were always cruising by to ask if we needed a refill; that kept us relaxed. We preferred the real beach to the pool, so no opinions on that. The kids and more adventurous adults (all the way to their 50's) really enjoyed the water park, including the slide! The nightly entertainment was entertaining, not Vegas-level, but folksy and engaging. On Saturday night we saw jugglers of bowling pins and knives, a single trapeze routine, and also a house band played at one stage. That made for a nice light evening.Food was freely available and done at a fairly high level of variety and quality at each restaurant. The dining room staff did, however, have a challenge seating and prepping for our ad hoc and large family group, which included manufacturing, hotel, and customer service managers. The staff came in for quite a bit of correction, and they took it all in good nature. For a property owned by an insurance business, I found the overall experience quite positive.I certainly would take my family back for a visit.
We actually travelled here in February 2016, but I completely forgot to write a review!!Ill keep it short and to the point. My Husband, my daughter (12), my son (4) and myself, had an amazing time here.We came to this resort for my birthday and I was treated like a princess. The entertainment, the food, the rooms, The drinks, the games and activities for the kids, the water park, the staff. were all fantastic. My kids cant wait to go back. The kids games and activities and the hang out rooms are things they have never forgotten. The coral reef right on the beach where you can feed the fish stole my kids hearts. It is a beautiful beautiful place. The one complaint that I have is that the 5 cheese pizza is so good I believe I gained a solid 10 pounds as I would eat 1 or even 2 every single day. I definitely recommend travelling here/ We will be going back.
We are a family of 4 who recently stayed at JRB-amazing vacation!! The staff was very friendly and warm from the moment we arrived until the moment we left. Although we had one small issue- Keisha was very understanding and accommodating! Great service! The Entertainment staff for the kids/teens was absolutely amazing- Tinker Bell, Skoolaz, Purple, Pretty Boy, Zoey 101, Rhi- Rhi- You guys are great!! The kids enjoyed the activities and games and time you spent with them. All the staff were excellent, and out children really took to Kamvoy who spent time talking about sports with them! This was one of the best family vacations we have had. The children had a great time- never bored and us adults had a great time. I highly recommend this resort!!!
Absolutely love Jewel Runaway Bay. After reading numerous positive reviews we knew we couldn't go wrong booking Jewel. Visited May 2016 and can't wait to go back! Ended up upgrading to the oceanfront suite with butler service. Just WOW. Everything about this resort is awesome...from the size - small enough to feel comfortable allowing the kids to roam and play on their own. The wonderful kids club and staff that kept the kids busy so My husband and I could enjoy our vacation too 😊 Kids LOVED the waterpark and all the things to do (laser tag, archery, dodgeball, soccer, volleyball....the list goes on and on). The kids were NEVER bored. My kids are always asking when we are going back! The staff.....so friendly, helpful and amazing. I can not say anything negative about this resort. If you are looking for a wonderful family vacation spot, you can stop looking.... you have found it at JEWEL Runaway Bay.
We just returned home after our week long vacation in Jamaica. We stayed at the Jewel Runaway Bay after receiving recommendations from a friend with children. Our group consisted of three families, 15 people in all - ranging in age from 8 months to 40+. The resort is closest to Ocho Rios, about an hour drive from the Montego Bay airport. Transportation is provided by the resort through a commercial tour company. It was a very easy and organized experience. I really can't say enough good things about this resort! The staff are all extremely friendly and accommodating. From our transportation to and from the resort, our check in and out, concierge services and all dining experiences, we never felt herded around or that we were a bother. Special shout out to Nevreen and Andre at the Buffet (Andre works the water park too), Ingrid, Chef Fedrick and the omelet crew, "Egg Man", and Clive. They all were awesome and made an impression with our group. The rooms are spacious and housekeeping was very attentive. We had a great view of the courtyard with partial beach/ocean. Our room was very quiet. We had adjoining rooms and were so grateful the resort was able to accommodate this request! We really had no issues with our room, however the bathrooms are set up differently in some of the rooms our group had. One family had no door on the restroom hence no privacy for showering. I am assuming that this will be addressed during the upcoming renovation. The resort is fabulous, small and intimate. We have stayed at resorts in Mexico and Hawaii that were great but almost too big. Everything is easily accessible here. The resort is clean and the pools are well taken care of. The beach was my absolute favorite!! For a resort of this size, the beach was generous. We never had to fight to find chairs, no matter what time of the day it was. There are numerous lifeguards present. The water is crystal clear, very calm due to the reef and minus any sea weed. Sign out some snorkel equipment from the resort and enjoy snorkeling with the family. The kids in our group enjoyed the water park the best. The lazy river is refreshing and there are activities for all ages - water pads, small slides, big water slides with tubes, etc. Again - chairs are plentiful and no need to fight for spots. There are many good food options on this resort. Italian, Japanese, Pizza, Sushi, numerous grills and the buffet. The only one that takes reservations is the Japanese restaurant. We had no problems making a reservation for 15 and this evening was by far our most favorite dining experience. We always ate early and never had issues with wait times at the other restaurants. Get the lamb and meat whenever possible. Surprisingly, the fish was not all that good. There is so much for the kids to do here. We did not partake in the kids club, but we saw many who did. Our kids stayed busy on the beach, in the water park and pools, playing ping pong and pool, playing volleyball, doing arts and crafts with Cllive, participating in the sushi making class, etc. Kids will not be bored here!Overall, one of the best family vacations we have ever had (and we travel every year)! Everyone of us was sad to leave and promised to be back soon. If you are looking for a family friendly resort that offers something for everyone, this is the place you want to be!
