We stayed at the resort from March 15-22nd with our two children 9 and 13. Our children had an amazing time and were never bored. There were always activities for the kids. The staff that spent time with the kids for the activities were especially kind and sweet. Special shoutout to RiRi. She was so awesome with the kids.. and we felt safe with our son doing all the activities, especially when she was around. She made things fun and exciting for the kids. The food at the resort was great. Absolutely zero complaints about the food. If you can't find something here to eat- you must be impossible to please. The drinks were great. Met a few awesome bartenders who were friendly and made the best drinks. We would walk all the way from the beach to the lobby to have them make our drinks. Look for Sherene and Duval if you go. They deserve your tips.. they work hard and are so friendly.Beach was awesome. Plenty of chairs.. always clean and well cared for. Lots of people take great care of their grounds and it looks so nice. They deserve recognition too. We have to give special shoutout to Ray and Raymond who work on the beach serving drinks and making sure all is good, all day long. They spent time answering all of our many questions and made our time at the resort that much more enjoyable. They were down to earth people. They work hard and absolutely deserve to be tipped. If you want good service and want to enjoy your time on the beach- find them! You won't be disappointed. We met several lifeguards who were also very friendly and fun. We enjoyed seeing them and meeting them! We met several but Joseph stands out. So nice to us and to our kids. They always got excited when he would come around. We got married at the resort. Our day was wonderful. The ceremony was perfect. I loved Reverend Tracy. He truly was the perfect person to marry us. The reception was equally as wonderful and the two that assisted with our reception Renardo and Leon were so friendly and accommodating. Our photographer Kristoff took some excellent pictures. We appreciated all that everyone did to make our day perfect. Our room was upgraded thanks to a couple of very kind people. The room was beautiful and always clean.I'd just like to say to Jewel Resort.. thank you for our wonderful vacation. Thanks for paying attention to detail. And Thank you for hiring staff that make a difference. The people you have working for you are special. One of a kind. They deserve all of the appreciation you can give them. Because of our experience and because of them- we will definitely be back. Thank you!
Kids had a blast! Grounds are clean and immaculately kept. Pools were well staffed. Life guards were great! They would have flash dance parties and really interact with families! We took a 1/2 hourbus ride from the port to Jewel. We stayed on the grounds got to eat all the food and drinks that we wanted! We will definitely be back.
- Rooms are very basic- Beach is nice but the area for swimming and water sports is minimal- Lots and lots of kids so be prepared and excited about that prospect- Staff is a mixed bag, there seems to be a lack of enthusiasm and customer care- my advice would be for the resort to raise it's wages/benefits and to make sure it has a happy staff first and foremost.- Tipping is not mandatory but it kinda is- you'll have a better experience if you come prepared to tipUnfortunately will not be returning and would not recommend
as with all hotels there were plusses and minuses. But overall if you are looking for a great family hotel in Jamaica, it's a perfect place to pick. We are a family of 4 with two girls aged 11 and 13 and travelled for 10 nights in early April 2017. We had a junior suite plunge pool room which was made up of a queen and two singles. The room: Location wise it was perfect. We struck lucky I think as it was literally steps from the Infinity pool. I had read people say they never used their plunge pools as they were too cold. They were cold, but nothing unusual and you get used to it quickly. We used ours quite a bit. The room itself was dated. The furniture was all very dark and oversized. A huge desk resulted in a lot of "dead space" in the room. Really needs a refresh, but to be fair it was functional and with two extra single beds in there we knew it wouldn't be spacious. It was a little cramped but I think there is enough space, its just the furniture! Beds were comfortable and that, to be honest is the main thing. Bathroom was a bit weird with a frosted swing door to the toilet and shower, but again it was functional and fine. Minibar was regularly stocked - no complaints there at all! Although be careful with the "champagne" because as soon as you loosen the wire on it, the plastic cork makes a bid for freedom without any assistance and the first one we opened saw the cork fly out of our patio and in to the gazebo over the bushes! Grounds - Wonderfully landscaped. Clean at all times. Really nice to walk around. Food - If you can't find something you like to eat here then the problem is you, not the hotel. There may have been individual things I did not like, but there was always something else. Pizza's and burgers effectively on tap all day; the Japanese and Italian in the evening are great (even if the ordering at the Italian is a bit baffling and results in you all eating at different times!). Breakfast and the legend that is Egg Boy is enough to keep me going all day anyway! I cannot understand anyone complaining about the food here. I really can't. Drinks - all good quality and branded. I did notice a difference in strength in the cocktails during the day and evening. Not sure if that's policy or bar staff! Activities - plenty to do, not always of the highest quality though (very basic ring toss, darts and the archery at the ranch would never pass a health and safety check here in the uk!) but great fun if you want to be involved. No pressure if you just want to sit around and laze. Staff - overall really good. One or two moments that were a bit off, but nothing I would complain about. I can accept some staff are having a bad day and it was certainly only a couple of one off things that I thought they could have been friendlier. Only little things though. Water park - Bit smaller than I thought from the stuff I had seen on line, but the two slides are really good and the lazy river is excellent. We did get invaded by a few school visits during our visit, but it would be churlish to complain. These are poor kids who are having a day out. Yes they were loud and a bit unruly, but they were having fun. So we left the park at those times and came back later in the day when we had it virtually to ourselves.wifi - spotty. Some nights I could watch Netflix without a buffer and then the next day, could not load google! So all in all I would absolutely recommend this place in particular if you have kids. It is not perfect by any means - rooms mainly, but unless you want to pay top top prices then you have to make allowances.
Recently stayed for 7 nights for the 2nd time at this resort. This time we stayed in a Ocean Front Plunge Pool room (Thanks Sherefa!). You cant beat the access and the views from this building. The rooms that face the ocean are the best ones to get (1011, 1012, etc). Again, got 2 beds added for the kids and this worked well for us. One of the blemishes of this resort still holds true. The internet access is a disgrace. Worked at times, a total mess other times. We certainly didnt fly all the way to Jamaica to get internet access.. but when you are just killing some time and/or want to check in with family, you would like to be able to simply send a quick imessage or just check home emails. The new Access Points provided a strong signal, but the back haul to the internet was just totally unreliable. The lines to the Grill at lunch are still too long. When the cruise ship people were in I heard someone say they waited over 30 minutes for food. (I myself saw the lines, they get crazy) and also the water park slide lines also grow. We avoided the waterpark these couple of days. We all thought the dinner food was better this trip . Moonstones and Platinum. Jerk Chicken at the grill was fantastic. The beach is still great. Went on the sail/catamaran resort-ride on a calmer day. Was very cool. (I get seasick, so tend to avoid slow moving boats.) Drinks always flowing. We brought 20oz insulated "mugs" and used them for beer and frozen drinks. Worked very well. Kudos to my housekeeper. One day we went out on an excursion to Blue Hole and tubing... Left the safe wide open with several hundred in cash, passports, a iphone, etc in it. Everything was there when we got back! Thanks to Scott and his staff for another great vacation to Jewel Runaway Bay.
