Dreams Used to be Amazing...

The Hotel The hotel used to be located where the Hyatt Ziva is now and I LOVED that location. This location has a smaller beach that was always very crowded. If you wanted a chair by the beach, you needed to be there by 9:00 AM. This beach was pretty good but I still feel that the other location was MUCH better. The hotel itself was a bit run down? I was not expecting that at all. Just little things. The door to my balcony was broken, my TV never worked, my shower wouldn't have hot water for longer than 5 minutes, my key never worked right to my room, the bed was broken etc. To me, these things were VERY minor issues. It never prevented me from having a good time. The StaffThe one thing that I was looking forward to was the staff. I LOVED how kind the staff were last time I visited! Unfortunately, that was not the case this visit. My flight arrived super early. I got to the hotel at 9:00 AM and check-in was 3:00 PM. I went to the front desk and they said to try back at 12:00 noon to see if a room was available. I gave them my bag and went to get breakfast. I tried back at noon and there wasn't anything available. Then I tried back at 1, 2 and 3 and nothing was available. I had been siting in the lobby for 6 hours. The same gentlemen who helped me at 9:00 AM was at the front desk and never updated me on my rooms status. I didn't get my room until 3:30 PM. I had just gotten off of a red-eye flight and was so tired! The leas they could have done was get me in a temporary room for a couple hours (I know they can do that because I saw them do that for three or four other people). Maybe it's because I was traveling alone? Not sure. Regardless, it sucked and ruined my first day for sure. The room service was great and the people who delivered the food were so kind. I got to know some of them. The gentleman who took me to my room was very kind and remembered my name the ENTIRE trip. I wish I could remember his name but he was a very nice guy. Beware of the people that try to sell you on things in the hotel. I don't know exactly what it was because I shut them down every time they started talking to me but I think it's like a timeshare thing? Not sure but it was a bummer to be bombarded by them. They say "This is included in your package, please sit down!" They give you Champagne and sell you on stuff. All in all, this was a great stay but honestly, I wouldn't go back. I was spoiled with the Dreams a couple years ago. Maybe it's under new management? Next time, I will try the Hyatt Ziva as I have hear nothing but great things!

Nice resort, calm beach good food

We we stayed for 1 week and had a great time. Our youngest got the flu and the onsite Dr. was great. Had to go to the hospital for tamaflu. When we got there they were expecting us as the onsite dr called ahead. Very impressive.Food was good, had no issues of getting any stomachs issues. We tried all the restaurants besides the Mediterranean one. Check in and check out was easy. Room was cleaned and they stopped by late afternoon for turndown service. We tipped at each meal and gave small gifts and tip to our maid. For beach very calm unless a windy day and still not bad.The only con I would say is they miss the 11-16 year old. The teen club we stopped by and closed at 8. I think it should be closed during the day unless bad weather. It should be open in the evenings with activities. During the day time the need organized activities for that age.The younger explorer club was great. Our youngest did camping in the beach. They have a lot of staff watching and interacting with your child. If you want a covered beach area you will need to go down around 8:00 am to put a towel on your chairs. Around 10:00 they start picking up towels if you have not been there.Entertainment was very good. The fire dance was very entertaining but may have been short or we were late as it ended at 8:35 and we arrived at 8:32.I would return to this location and may try this brand elsewhere.

For the Price, it wasn't bad

Rooms were smaller, didn't have a balcony, would definitely recommend it. Pretty much every room is oceanfront which is nice. Did preferred club but didn't really use much of it.Food was good, would say Himitsu had the best service, Bordouex was very good as was Portifino but expect dinner to take 2-3 hours unless you want to hit the buffet.Beachwise, the sand was great but very skinny and reserve your beach chairs before 8 am and make sure you use them, if you try to use reserve them and come back hours later, they'll remove your items. Lots of kids so if you're looking to avoid that, I wouldn't stay here.Luis Valles was great for entertainment-lots of ocean volleyballJonathan and Fredi are great servers.Elemer is Preferred club was my guy, hooked me up with a full cooler(one I brought) of ice and beer everyday.Location was nice as we were close to the airport and shopping across the street.Overall we had a great time, for the money we really couldn't complain.

Wonderful vacation

My wife, daughter and I stayed at Dreams Sands February 5th -12th. We had a wonderful stay. We were met right away by Marco who helped us with our check in and made sure we were comfortable. The rooms are not the best and some of the facilities are a bit dated but we knew this going into the vacation because of reviews we had read. Most of the staff will go above and beyond to make up for this. I am listing a few things they should fix to make sure other people don't have the same experience. Coco Cafe employees were so rude the first few days. They really need to get some friendly faces to serve at that station. For some people, that is the first person you see in the morning and when the first people you see are rude to you, it doesn't make you feel good. The buffet was hit or miss. Every morning we tried to eat there they were out of bacon and several other items including syrup for waffles, pancakes, etc. The service is also pretty bad. Every day we ate there whether it was for breakfast or lunch we would be almost finished with our meal before we could get a water. Usually we would order water, coffee, juice for breakfast and water, and tea for lunch. I guess they wait until everything is ready but we waited at least 10 minutes for water at every meal we had at the buffet. Finally we gave up on it about half way through our stay. The beaches and pools are very crowded. You will need to get up and reserve your chairs by 7:30 or so to get a chair by the pool or beach. Our trip was wonderful but I felt I had to post the negatives to help them improve. There were many employees that really stood out and helped make our trip one we will remember for a lifetime! From start to finish, our concierge, Marco was wonderful. Also the pool/beach concierge, Alfredo was outstanding. We knew if we needed anything, we could ask either of these two gentlemen and they would help us. Dreams Sands has some outstanding employees and Marco and Alfredo real set the bar. My daughter and I went deep sea fishing one day and brought back fish we caught and Marco set everything up with another member of management and it was prepared perfectly. We rented a bali bed during our stay and Alfredo was always there if we needed anything. Also he brought out a pineapple that had a wonderful frozen drink in it for our daughter, who is 10. She loved it!The best server at the beach/ pool area by far is Fredi. Fred was amazing. He would see you from far away and make sure you were taken care of. Also, Cesar Mora was the bartender by the beach and between him and Fredi they would make sure your drinks were made and delivered with perfection. Good job guys!We loved dining outside at El Patio! We ate there several nights and always requested Jorge. Jorge was an amazing server and would remember everything we ate and drank from previous meals and really made us feel welcome and relaxed.I would give this resort a better review but the hotel is dated and I don't think that will change but the service, for the most part is excellent and the water is amazing. Even at the nicest resorts those are qualities that are hard to come by. We look forward to our next stay at Dreams Sands. We will be back.

20 Years Experience in Mexico Hotel Zone

Ok Folks, this place is Ok, not greatest. 20 Yrs of Hotel Zone, here's the real deal. First we dont get too excited about "issues" like some reviews, it is what it is. Went 2-2 to 2-9 Usually stay at Riu's, but Dreams used to have the best food so tried this place out, even tho it was a couple hundred more. Plus we paid 100 more for a balcony room. The worst part was using Miami Air out of Lansing MI, slowest plane on the planet. Never takes more than 3 hrs 10 minutes, they save money by making it 3 hrs 45 and no less. After checking in they hand you your keys but hand off a slip to a concerige that takes you to the side to tell you about your "coupons" but then they say make an appt to talk about the place the next day, SAY NO, this ends up being a time share breakfast, just say NO, NO, then they will hand off the slip to the Bell Hops to take your luggage to your room, some people said they kept calling them to make an appt, but we did not get any calls. The room was okay, very outdated as people say, I take a lot of clothes, thought storage was lacking, and the closet doors didnt work too well. The bath situation is what people say, smallest bathroom I have ever seen, cant close the door without scooting between the toilet, and it is glass with some frosted spots, kinda wierd. Shower is small and yes, you do get wet trying to turn it on, but you can figure it out in a time or two to make it okay to use. No wall hairdryer which would be convenient, find it in the closet. Got a little crazy when we looked to see where the ice machines were, they have none. They said to call for ice. Thought that would be a nitemare, but turned out fine, ordered ice every day around 6:pm, and never waited more that 10-15 minutes for a giant bucket of ice that we could put in the room bucket and extra, so no big deal. One nite at the end of our stay, we waited about 45 minutes, called, and had a bucket in 3 minutes, then another showed up 10 minutes later, no problem , then they called and seemed like the guy would get in trouble, we said its okay, we're good. Things do happen. If you get a balcony room, dont look at their pix on line, you dont get 2 nice chairs and a table. We had 2 plastic moldy'ish chairs, and no table. Short of sending my husband to the beach to find a nasty table, here's a better hint, my husband got creative and took the luggage rack and put the tray in the room on it, took care of that, no big deal. Food was ok, not great, the beef tho that they had of some sort every day was very good. Surprised it took 6 days before we saw a pc of Chicken tho, usually a staple down here., and a potato is rare occurance, found that odd. Breakfasts were awesome, but sustainable after that. Winds and Sands or whatever was weird, wait forever and 2 inches of food, hubby got "surf and Turf" but got a half dollar size of meat and 3- 1 inch shrimps after 45 minutes. I asked for a plain steak, the steak said a lot of junk on it, the gal was confused, brought a guy over that said I cant get a plain steak, but he could give me beef tenderloin, I said great! Hubby's steak came plain...could have had that I thought, but ok, my plate came with tenderloin...looked like a round chopped steak (burger) but it was really good, with a quarter size smidge of mashed potatoes, you will be hungry after this. Plus it was so dark, ask for a lite, they will bring you a nitelite. You do NOT have to tip everyone, this place was the best for that, at Riu's, if you do not tip the pool/beach servers, they will ignore you, not here, you get great service from the beach/pool servers whether you tip them or not, they do not pass you by at all, they go to everyone, very often. Great service there and at the many bars. The grill between the beach and pool open all afternoon is great, burgs are real meat and fries and extra's are very good. Only big problem is getting chairs. beach and pool area is nice cause its all close together, but very small, and no where near enough chairs. Noon to 6pm is the sun areas at both, but if you dont get a chair at the pool by 7:15 am, you wont get one, dont need one there, cause afternoon sun will roast you there anyway. Beach chairs need to be picked b4 8am. Or there is no seating until 2:30 when its so hot people leave. Saturday and Sunday on, seating is really premium. On tue sday I went to get chairs at 7:20 when the sun came up, only 4 chairs left on beach, none at pool.So on Wednesday our last beach day, my hubby had to do a wake up call for 6:30 am to make sure we got 2 chairs for the day, Sad! And to watch people come down at 9:am to get seats and find none was sad, but had to do what we had to do for ourselves. Best thing about this hotel is the water is very calm, and the pool is comfy, not cold, not the preffered pool which was ice cold. I wouldt pay the preferred price, you get stuffed in the end of the place on the beach, stuffed in a small area, no bar etc. just a bathroom everyone else can use, and a closed in room with drinks and snacks that you can get in open area elsewhere. Just like everywhere else in Mexico, you can find fault, but this place was fine, just old, and closed in hallways and rooms if you dont get a balcony, but all in all, its fine if your inovated, but the service is outstanding to anyplace down here. If you just relax, dont get too excited about simple things, you will enjoy yourself.!
