Our Opinion

A small yet great hotel. The resort has a very helpful team. The front staff do their best to ensure you have a quick and easy check-in. The rooms are comfortable and well-maintained. Make sure to request a room with a view, as some of the oceanview rooms are spectacular. There are lots of food options to choose from. There's entertainment provided every night, so there will always be plenty of things to do around the resort. Amazing location from the beach, and there is a wide stretch of sand for those who love long walks on the beach. The busy Cancun resort strip is right in front of the resort grounds as well. This is a great location for those wanting to be in the center of the action in Cancun.

NEVER DISAPOINTED

The staff at the GR Solaris are amazing.The attention to detail, everyone smiling, impeccable grounds work, the cleanliness, the food preparation, The Entertainment Staff, The Kid's club staff, wait staff, yes I mean everyone !!!!! If you cannot have a great time here, don't waste your money going on vacation, bank your cash and continue to be the curmudgeon you know you are.

Entertainment Staff!!!!!!!!

The resort is great. That being said, the entertainment staff is amazing. Jonathan(jona), Fernanda and Marco know how to make memories for kids, adults and in between. We have been there multiple times and will always return to watch them. Shows are really amazing as well. There is no need to leave the resort but there is plenty to do if you desire to.

Amazing Family Vacation

I can't believe that I am back home and not laying by the pool at this resort. I have to say that at first I was a little apprehensive after reading the reviews, specially since I had to reschedule this vacation and at the time decided to change hotels. Best decision I ever made. I sent a message to the hotel through FB inquiring about making reservations for the day of our arrival since we would get there to late and sure enough, not only did they reply, they made reservations for our family and we weren't even there yet. (Glenda, I asked about you the minute I got there but couldn't find you. My phone was not working there but thank you again). At check in, imagine my surprise when I was giving an ocean view room as an upgrade because we were accidentally given a bed with a king size bed and we have two kids, as a courtesy without even saying anything they put us in a room with double beds with an ocean view. Check in for us was a breezze, we arrived around 5 in the afternoon and by 5:30 we were already in the pool which thankfully is open until 10:00. My in-laws went with us and were giving a room on a different floor, and I have heard people complaining about this, but let's face it, you are in the same resort, all you do is plan meeting times and that is that, it is definitely not an inconvenience, at least for us it wasn't.FOODThis was the part I was more apprehensive about, everyone seems to have a big thing with the food. I have to say that while my only complaint would be the lack of mexican food (there was a mexican night thing going on the day I arrived but it was really not what we expected), I am a very picky eater with two little ones that are probably worse and we always, always found something to eat at all times. The two restaurants with reservations were great, it was not a problem for my husband to pack some linen pants to take on vacation. I don't see what's the big deal, I personally love the fact that we dressed up, I for one was dressed up every night even if going to the buffet. STAFFOMG, these people are the hardest working people I have ever met. I came out on my balcony one night at 4 to see people still going or maybe beginning their shifts. The waiters, the entertainment staff, maintenance staff, they were all so welcoming to everyone. Anywhere you went you found someone doing something. Hands up to the kids club. I had never utilized a kids club at any other hotel before, my kids loved it and asked to be taken there all the time and let me tell you, my 4 year old boy has never even been to school yet so no worries for me in September. I don't want to mention anyone by name because don't want to forget anyone but all of your staff is amazing. We were only asked once at arrival about the membership thingy and never again did anyone approach us during our stay so I really don't see how some people were being harassed. I remember going to DR and being asked at least twice a day. The alcohol is watered down but I won't take any stars away from that, buy a bottle of your favorite alcohol at duty free in the airport and problem solved! Whatever you do don't miss their shows, they are phenomenal!!!! Thank you GR Solaris for making our first trip to Cancun a super fun one. We will sure come back for more fun in the sun!

Home Away From Home

Hello Travelers! Well, just returned last night from an 8 day stay at the GR Solaris and what a fantastic time! This is our 8th annual stay here and we consider this resort our “home away from home.” Let me share a little as to why this is a “stand out” resort for my family and friends. I have been vacationing in this area for quite some time staying at the MEGA resorts offered in Cancun and the Riviera Maya and although they are beautiful and all, they lacked the genuine, warm hospitality that this smaller resort has to offer. It’s a hotel of 304 rooms so no worries if your kids go off on their own to the “kids club”, the deli, or the movie theater, everything is in close proximity. The staff here (my friends) remember your name and always greet you with a smile. As soon as we arrived our check-in was easy. We were greeted by Cristal in the members’ services and she warmly and quickly accommodated us with everything we needed knowing that we were eager to start our vacation, she even arranged reservations for us to dine at their elite Marco Polo restaurant and this wasn’t an easy accommodation since there was 21 of us. Thank you Cristal! Our rooms were as promised with the most beautiful views of the Caribbean ocean, our room attendant was Flor who kept our room spic and span. Now for the FUN!!! And boy oh boy there was a lot of that!!! The entertainment staff work with happy hearts entertaining everyone all day with various activities throughout the day! There literally is something for everyone, from stretching class on the beach, to kids club camping, Zumba, bingo, crazy pool games, nightly themed shows, and even lobby bar dancing, I can go on and on. A very special thank you to this amazing team who work tirelessly and you can really tell they love what they do – Jona, Fernanda, Andrew, Marco, Luisma, Lalo, Karin, Yesy! If you chose this resort please tell them DeeAnne sent you! ;) Can’t end this without mentioning their restaurants! Marco Polo is a MUST!!! They also have a sushi restaurant called Zai (I don’t care for Sushi, but my friends went and loved it). Breakfast here is also my fave! Oblilia is the omelet station cook and she’s amazing, she’ll make your eggs any way you prefer. And if you like libations, please say to these guys – Hamilton, Abran, Edgar, Eider – Best bartenders! Hope you chose this place! I’ll be back here next year! HAPPY TRAVELS!!!!

Aging property, poor service, and missed opportunity to be better

I honestly don't enjoy writing negative reviews. This one is even worse because the opportunity was there for it to be great. It just wasn't. At the start, things went okay. We were traveling there for my brother's wedding. So disclaimer, I didn't have a say in this property choice. We were traveling with two small children and about twenty family members. At check in, we were surprised to see everyone on different floors. No one in the party was grouped together. We had booked through cheap tickets and were surprised to get a king bed oceanfront room with extended balcony. Seriously, zero clue how we got this but we of course we're pleased. They even brought in a twin bed for our son. The room was In decent shape. This however, is where being impressed stopped. The food? Every review on here is correct, it's awful. Breakfast was about the only part that was decent. The pool food was also okay but breakfast and bar food are pretty hard to mess up. At an all-inclusive, the food should be really be a highlight and here it felt more like cafeteria food...The service was completely hit or miss. I know it's Mexico, and they are a tip based culture but it just got annoying. While we did run into a few good associates no one really stood out. The manager at Marco Polo is terrible. We were told a reservation wasn't possible due to it being completely full two nights in a row (Marco polo and zai). Both nights, after giving the managers tips, we were seated immediately in what was a completely empty restaurant... the food at Zai was above and beyond better than Marco Polo which is their signature place, but still sub par. They only have two house wines, everything else is an additional charge. Room service was terrible. They messed up our orders two days in a row and both times the food was cold. Drinks were decent. One thing I can say is that the maintenance team was amazing and cut down a coconut each morning for me to use throughout the day. It was a highlight for sure. Kid areas were good but certainly in need of repair. The water area playground had clear damage that had been repaired with duct tape and paint? We hung out there every morning before family members started coming down. The pool was crazy warm. It seriously felt like a bath tub which was a little non-refreshing on a hot day. The beach was actually very nice. I would have spent more time there but our family was poolside most of time. The water was gorgeous as well. Honestly this property could be so much better if they just put in more effort. While we had a good time and our kids certainly didn't notice the problems. However, we won't be coming back and I'd have to encourage others to look elsewhere. There are definitely better properties out there.
