Our Opinion

A small yet great hotel. The resort has a very helpful team. The front staff do their best to ensure you have a quick and easy check-in. The rooms are comfortable and well-maintained. Make sure to request a room with a view, as some of the oceanview rooms are spectacular. There are lots of food options to choose from. There's entertainment provided every night, so there will always be plenty of things to do around the resort. Amazing location from the beach, and there is a wide stretch of sand for those who love long walks on the beach. The busy Cancun resort strip is right in front of the resort grounds as well. This is a great location for those wanting to be in the center of the action in Cancun.

Decent trip

Me and my mom arrived Tuesday, November 14th at the GR Solaris. We were told that we were Expedia VIPS so we were whisked away to a side table where a very nice woman checked us in. She informed us about activities on the property (movie night, Zumba, nightly entertainment and pool activities). We were informed we got a complimentary bottle of wine and free WiFi. Great start to the vacation. The resort is a decent size to accommodate many guests and the onsite store wasn’t overly priced as in some Cancun resorts. We got a room with a balcony and a beautiful view of the ocean. The bags were delivered quickly and great reception staff. After check-in we decided to have lunch and that’s one of the two cons. Rosamarinus is their buffet style lunch except this is a small buffet with limited selection. There is mainly vegetable dishes and very little meat. The wait staff is very nice and efficient but the food makes me want to eat elsewhere. The taste is bland and what little meat you could find tastes like they heated up 2 day leftovers. In hopes of better food we ate at Marco Polo which is their somewhat formal restaurant. I had the steak Diane which turned out to be Salisbury steak the size of a hockey puck with a very tiny portion of mash potatoes. The best part of that meal was the bread basket. My mom had fish with about 6 strands of pasta and Brussels sprouts. Well the Brussels sprouts made her sick and she has been locked in her room with Montezumas revenge. I have since been retrieving her meals from a place called VIPS which is a diner of sorts and actually had better food. I got sick Saturday morning and I’ve been throwing up and going to the bathroom every twenty minutes. Their breakfast did it to me.Aside from the meals, their beauty salon was their second con. Their pedicures are over priced and the job they did wasn’t up to par. I had a spa pedicure.... stick with the regular pedicure if you must get a pedicure. The spa pedicure is nothing more than cream on your feet wrapped in a plastic bag and rubbing your feet with a tiny amount of chocolate shavings (I could’ve done that myself with a Kit Kat and Nivea). I hoped doing my hair may redeem it but they wanted to charge me $36USD extra to put blow dry curls in my hair (hairstylists have been heard of charging for a flatiron but NOT for using a blow dryer). I let them do the hair the way they wanted because I just wanted to leave. The charge gets put to your room and they won’t let you pay after service so who knows what they added. My hair is staring to stick up thanks to the mediocre job and I haven’t even went outside. So the food and the beauty salon are the things to stay away from but the rest is good so if you have kids bring them. The views are great, the staff is excellent, they have a very nice lounge act, the pools are fun and they have ample kid activities. So if you want to lose weight this is a great place to be.

GR Solaris never disappointed us

Our second time in GR Solaris and I have nothing bad to say about this hotel and the amazing staff. You feel home since the first moment you enter. the bell boy, front desk, house keeping, waitresses, waiters, cook, life guards and last but not least entertainment staff. all of them definitely go above and beyond to make you feel great. I don't know how they do it to keep a big smile on their faces the whole time. Location is really clean and food and drinks are delicious. Great resort for family. Every age is guarantee to have a blast. Beautiful pool and gorgeous view to the ocean. you can lay down by the pool and have fun with all the activities by the entertainment staff while you enjoy good drinks and delicious food. I wish I could name them all and thank them in person but it would be hard. I am going to name just a few of them. the captain of the crew of the waiters and waitresses "Vermon" a very hard working guy and super friendly always making sure everything goes smooth. Yair a extremely friendly guy that works in the morning for breakfast. Always with a huge smile on his face and always ready to serve everyone. Odely a waitress always getting her job done and with a positive attitude the whole time. Life guards Rafael and Emiliano which I saw them always training and ready to help at any time. and Of course the people that kept us having fun all the time "The Entertainment Stuff" and they are Marco, Lalo, Freddy and Luis Ma very friendly and fun people and BIG SHOUT FOR our Favorites Andrew and Fernanda. We enjoyed so much spending our sunny days with them all. Andrew and Fernanda are now our friends and left a foot print in all our hearts. Kids love them so much and so do I. I highly recommend this hotel to everyone that is looking to spend a nice vacation and want to have lots of fun.

Pleasantly surprised

I never write reviews. Great place to stay. My wife is particular about everything -we found a great deal online so I was skeptical. Staff is unbelievable. The crew that runs the “entrainment” portion are unbelievable. They start dancing around pool at 9am- work alllll day. Then at 9pm- give you one of the best shows you’ve ever seen. And work in the gym in-between! Luis Gomez at the pool bar is one of the best bartenders I’ve ever seen. I would get in pool and my drink would be waiting for me and my wife. My son is 2 and they couldn’t have been more kid friendly. Huge park- swim area- and water slides. I recommend this to everyone.

Very nice!..pros and cons (tips) notes

I have been to numerous all inclusive resorts in the Caribbean and Mexico from 3 star to 5 star (6 golden apples). This rates at a 4 star. This is a smaller resort, but plenty of fun! In order to not repeat everything, I'll focus on the basics.Rooms were nice. Beds were comfortable, balcony, stocked fridge (no canister of alcohol but plenty at all the bars indoors and out). The entire resort uses the best smelling cleaners (totally wish they sold this). Great coffee bar sets up in the lobby mid afternoon and evening. You have to try one!Pool is decent sized with fun entertainment staff...drinking contests, water/tequila volleyball, kids activities, water aerobics, yoga, Zumba, etc. Food shacks and pizza stand were both great. Most bartenders were great. There were a couple that weren't friendly, but I don't want one or two people ruin the reputation of the othersI can't believe the complaints of food. While I will admit there was not the massive spread as mega resorts, there was always plenty to choose from and I never left hungry. The only cons to me were there were only 2 nicer restaurants to get a reservation. If you are used to 5 or 8 to choose from, this isn't the place. Other than that, I missed having a lot of fruit to choose from. The fruit is not displayed cut into big swans or anything fancy, but there is typical strawberries, grapes, watermelon. Omelet station was wonderful. Desserts not the best, but typical.Pools- nice, music, fun with swim up bar. An adult quiet pool nearby (but too boring for me). Requires towel card to get towel, $$$ if lost card. Also, while noted you are not to hold loungers, if you don't go out to reserve, you just miss out on getting one.Entertainment was fun. Family friendly, but still enjoyable for adults traveling without kids. The only bar is near the main lobby, and while fun, ends to early. For those not feeling the urge to venture downtown to the clubs, but still wanting to dance and hang out, it was a disappointment it ended too early (maybe 11 ish). If you go to the clubs...NOTE, they only provide transport there, NOT back. You are then informed once there to hire a taxi back....many nervous club goers found this out. There are no markets close enough to walk to, but you can take a bus for $1 US.(cheaper with pesos).Overall this ended up being a great trip for girlfriends celebrating birthdays. We met a lot of fun people and made some great memories. Beach is pretty, but due to weather conditions, it was brutal to play in (swimming was prohibited). We played for about 4 minutes and got beat by the waves even in knee deep area I felt like a piece of laundry in a washing machine.Cons: doors around resort are very heavy to open, several "out of order", stairs(watched some older people struggling), sliding doors in room were hard to lock/unlockIf you have booked this trip...ENJOY!The staff work so hard. Take $50 in one dollar bills with you for tips. The bartenders get a ton of tips but the maids, cooks, wait staff, groundskeepers don't. I encourage you to hand a bill to someone least expecting it and watching the smile on their face. Some get paid less than $15 per day but work as hard or harder than most us. I like knowing WE can all show our appreciation of their service to make us happy..
