Our Opinion

The Grand Oasis Cancun would be the perfect destination for young travelers and those who fancy the 'Spring Break' atmosphere. The resort itself is incredibly big. The suites are well-kept and maintained. However, for the price you pay, it isn't as luxurious than other resorts. This place is notorious for its party atmosphere. The pool area gets incredibly busy, as they host a lot of entertainment and dance parties there. The hotel is also near the downtown core, where a lot of bars and nightclubs can be found. The resort offers a shuttle service to these areas for a small fee. However, it's a safer way to go from bar to bar, especially since it's away from the resort grounds. The buffet item choices tend to get a little old. While there are more luxurious resorts to choose from, the Grand Oasis Cancun is a great place to stay if you're a young traveler wanting to have fun!

Has Potential

We stayed January 9 to 16. Today is our last day and we leave tomorrow but I think I have seen enough to give a fair review.We booked a Grand Plus Oceanview room through Sunwing and paid to upgrade our bracelets to the “black band”. We had a private check in area and it was very quick and comfortable. We tipped a bell boy as soon as we finished our check in and walked to our room and our bags were waiting for us when we got there.We were very disappointed with the state of the room. It was very clean but also very “run down” - the toilet doesn’t flush properly, broken and dusty lamps, our lock looked like someone had been digging at it and the doors to the room beside us were not locked which made us uncomfortable. I walked to reception to tell them about some of the issues and they said they would send someone but they never came so I went on with my trip. We woke up this morning to a puddle of water on our floor but cannot figure out where it came from. Also, you can hear everything in the halls and hear the people talking in the room beside you.Room service was great. I put tips and a note in my fridge and it was restocked every day with exactly what I wanted.We only ate at the black band restaurants and the food is good but nothing to be excited about. Neither of us were ever hungry but I agree it very much lacked variety in all of the restaurants. We paid for a Red Circus dinner and a show and the food was great and the service by Ricardo was outstanding.The resort as a whole is very clean - the staff work very hard and I never saw garbage on the grounds. The roof seems to leak a lot in several areas, even when there is no rain. The pools are beautiful. The view from our room was amazing.The entertainment here is fantastic. We always found something to do or watch whether it was during the day or the evening. The casino is fun and is always full of people having a great time also.We also spent a lot of time off of the resort. We booked an excursion through the hotel one day to Coba. Another day we took the ferry to Isla Mujeres and had massages on the beach and ate lunch at a little Mexican restaurant we found just outside the tourist area.One day we also took a bus to Playa del Carmen and spent the day there shopping, had dinner then watched live bands in the evening.While I was treated well by the staff at this resort, I wouldn’t stay here again. I had to carry around the list of bars and restaurants because some are only open on certain days/times and you have to do some running around to different locations to make reservations at the specialty restaurants etc. And while I had the “best” bracelet, I am not interested in a tiered system. Lastly, the hotel just needs too many upgrades to bring it to the standard it sells itself to be. I’ve stayed at other resorts that are not high end (Riu chain, for example) and they have better rooms, food service etc and I paid much less. Also Riu type chains solve all problems (if any) immediately.Also, Cancun is the “Niagara Falls” of Mexico...very touristy and fake looking. I think I’ll try another city and hotel next time.

The nightmare that never ended NEVER GO HERE

This place is the worst I have ever stayed in, in my entire life any hotel would be better than this the hotel staff was nice but under trained and can not handle ANYTHING we were booked and grand oasis for New Years and after waiting in line for 3 hours just to check in we are told they over booked and we are being sent to another property that is smaller and that was just the start of an awful trip fridge never worked for my medicine and never replaced it and didn’t care hang the phone on you all the time and the food and drinks were awful ...they don’t care at all not even a little, the bar tender picked up the empty drink cup my buddy left on the bar and poured my drink into ...unwashed I was blow away the whole trip NEVER GO TO THIS PLACE .

NOT a 4 star resort for sure!!! Long lineups and noisy

This review is for Grand Oasis Cancun, not for the Pyramids (upgraded black wristband).Long lineup in the morning for buffet. Long lineup at coffee shop. They don't take dinner reservations for special restaurants; so long lineups at lunch and dinner unless you lineup before restaurant open.Building has terrible Soundproofing. It traps all the noise in, good luck if you have a connecting door in your room.I woke up a few times every night by drunks shouting or inconsiderate people chatting while walking up the stairs. The noise echos! Specialty restaurants are just so-so, most dishes are salty. You won't get the A La Cart restaurant feeling as you get at other resorts. Even if the food quality is OK, such as Spanish and Italian restaurants, the service is not as good as other resorts.The good thing about this resort is the beach. It's right down the building. The peacocks and gold fishes are lovely.If you like Maya culture, go to Riviera Maya instead. We stayed at Bahia Principe a few years ago. It was really nice.

So I’ll start with the positive ..the resort has a fun upbeat atmosphere ..and they have several beautiful peacocks on the grounds . The hotel is fairly clean but very outdated and needs quite a bit of updating. The food was of poor quality and the cheap rail alcohol was even worse. It’s not the quality that I’m accustomed to when visiting Mexico but its a good deal for the budget conscious or the student looking for an affordable spring break trip. I personally wasn’t bothered by noise but if your looking for quiet and peace this isn’t the place for you ...it’s probably a first and last trip to this resort for me

So-so hotel

First of all to be fair, there are several good things about the hotel:-the beach. it’s amazing, wide, clean sand, lots of space, beautiful sea, waves (be mindful if you like calm water, it’s not an area for you)- ocean view rooms (we were are 3xxx rooms facing the ocean). The room itself is ok, nothing crazy, but nothing horrible either (we had couple minor things to be fixed - I.e. safe box not working, it took them couple days to arrange it). Make sure you ask for ocean view room in that building closer to the beach (there are 5 buildings total, two are ocean facing).- okay entertainment. The circus performance in the Pyramid building is very good.- close to the airport, about 20-25 min driveNow let’s get to real issues:- completely horrible organization of dishing services. You cannot eat ever! Always have to stand in lines, even for buffet, each place has its own ridiculous schedule, like 2 hours per day. You stand in line for the hostess to take your room number and party size and then you stand in line to wait until the table is available. Every time, In every restaurant. And the resort is not even full, there are bunch of tables in the restaurant but for some reason you can’t take them. We asked the concierge on how he would recommend us to handle the dining situation (we thought maybe you can make reservation - you can’t btw). He told us to get upgraded to Pyramid (we were grand plus). Great option, thanks. - super slow check in. The stuff is half asleep it feels like. Any action takes forever. - the reservation is non refundable, be aware. We booked it on Expedia and wanted to cancel 10 min after, clearly the hotel didn’t even get the money, not made any arrangements. But they declined ours (and Expedia) cancellation request, asking for full amount penalty.- Food is bad. No fruit at all (hey we are in Caribbean!), poor selection of everything
