Our Opinion

An LGBTQ-friendly spot, this Oasis resort is suited to couples and older clientele. Take advantage of upgrading a suite, as the views offered here are breathtaking. This resort also offers endless options when it comes to food. Whether it's the buffet or the a la carte restaurants, the food here has always been promising in taste in quality. The pool area is spacious and you'll never experience a shortage of towels or loungers. One of the things that sets this resort apart from the rest is that it is incredibly inclusive. Regardless of your age or sexual orientation, this resort is probably one to visit if you're a couple.

Greatness

4 of my best friends and I took a trip here in the beginning of May and we could not have been more pleased. I had just returned from Cabo three weeks before and, though I loved both, in comparison I would pick Grand Oasis Sens any day of the week! It was everything we could've dreamed of and then some. Great food, great drinks, and great atmosphere all around. We will 100% be going back.

Low Rate Hotel

This was supposed to be a relaxing vacation (one couple and two friends) that turned into a clip from a horror story. We arrived on schedule but a couple of hours prior to check in and were told our rooms would be ready by 3:00 to check back. The concierge and the check out counters were the coldest areas in the entire resort. We walked the perimeter of resort and it was very nice. We ate at the Mexican restaurant and the food and service was good. Went back to the concierge around 3:30 and received our rooms, however both rooms were kings size bed. We had requested one room to be two doubles, they said no problem but it would be a couple of hours before the two double room would be ready. We went to the bar and waited, at 6:00 pm, we finally received our room. we went straight to room, as soon as we opened the door, the room was clean but EXTREMELY hot. We called the front desk and was told to allow the room to cool for a couple of hours since it had just been cleaned. We showered and went to eat at the Coda Buffet, the food was ok but the selection was limited compared to other resorts that I had been at. My friends indicated that their room was extremely hot and that the AC was not working, However, they called the front desk and someone was coming up to look at theirs. At 10:30, we returned back to the room and again, the temperature had not changed and the room was still extremely hot. We called the front desk once again and was told someone would be up soon, about two hours later the maintenance man showed up. He literally took his ladder and changed the direction of the vents and said that the AC was working. (HOWEVER, THE ROOM WAS STILL A SAUNA!)Finally feel asleep and woke up with beads of sweat, received a call from the couple who indicated that they could not sleep because of the heat. Went to the concierge area and asked from a change in rooms (waited 45 minutes and was told they were totally book with no rooms available that they were sorry). I asked would they send another maintenance guy up to look at AC to see if they could do something different? They indicated that they would. In the meantime, the other couple complained about their room as well and they were also told that they would have someone come up and look at AC. About two hours later, I went back to room and the maintenance man finally arrived, walked in put hand on vent and called from front desk to have them tell me that the AC was blowing to code. The front desk proceeded to tell me that we would have to deal with the room because the resort was totally booked. The maintenance man did not use any device, thermostat or anything just his hand. Keep in mind that the room temperature had not changed since we arrived. Again, another night in the desert with no wind to wake up to sweat beads. At this point, I was tempting to call Cheap Caribbean for assistance but figured there was nothing they could do. I booked this trip and the three guest in my party was extremely upset and had every right to be. Just was not fair that this resort would not help in anyway. The third day, I went to the concierge area and requested the resident manager and was told they were not available but they had one room available but it would be after 5:00 pm and would put two rollaway beds in the room until the next day(10:30) as they would have another room. So on third day, the couple finally received another room. Again, we were told two rollaway beds would be in the new, You can guess, NOPE, they never brought the rollaway beds, called front desk and was told they did not have any available. 2:00 am that morning, a maintenance man entered their room and stated he was checking on the AC in the new room????Fourth day, I went back to the concierge area and asked about the new room was told to come back after 3:00, I explained that I was told to come at 10:30 am? They apologized but said their was some miscommunication and that I would have to come back at 3:00 to see if a new room was available??????The new room was finally available but they only had a king size bed room but would put a rollaway bed inside? Really, we paid for this?To end this, we were never able to change rooms, I spent more time in the concierge area than the pool/beach area. The communication and lack of response from the concierge team was beyond imaginable. This was by far the worst traveling experience in my life, just horrible. Would not recommend this resort to anyone at any price.

Acceptable --- at best

I stayed here June 5th - 10th. I stayed in an upgraded room facing the water. The room was nice; clean, but really didn't stay cool until the sun went down. It is true this property is in need of repairs; it's pretty rundown for a resort. The staff is friendly, but do not say hello as they pass or see you.The Coba dinner buffet was disappointing: not much of a choice. On several nights, went to other restaurants after the buffet. The Moonlight Italian restaurant served pretty good pizza. I was told that Pepperoni is only available during lunch. Huh???It kinda stinks that the better restaurants require using a goofed up reservation system. Not much entertainment here at this resort. The other Grand properties are available for guest use, but there is no shuttle.Recommended sites to see:Chichen Itza; Coba; Tulum; Ek BalamThis is located in a section of resorts with NO stores or restaurants nearby, but is about 10 miles from the airport [$30.00 cab ride]

So disappointed

This hotel really needs an upgrade , first of all our room door did not close , our lights in the room did not work and the roof in the bathroom looked as if was about to cave in . our phone didn't work, we complained and nothing was done about it , surprising the AC worked very well. Th restaurants are always closed no help anywhere you looked and to top it off the close the pools and the beach area so early we didn't have time to enjoy it.

  • Brooke W :
This place was a nightmare

We had read questionable reviews, mainly about the risque/adult environment that this hotel offered, but many reviews were excellent so we went with a positive attitude that everything would be fine. First of all, check in was close to an hour and there was one customer at the desk and one in front of us, so not a huge line to justify waiting that long to check in. We had booked an ocean view room, which was one of our main requirements, but when we got to our room we saw nothing but grass and a large tree. Also the room was HOT. I went back to the front desk to ask about why we had no view and was told that was all that was available even though we had booked an ocean view. We could check back the next day at 10am to see if anything else had become available. Who wants to spend their vacation with their room availability up in the air and waiting forever at the check in desk? In addition to the non-existent view, our room was very dated like 1980s style. Did I mention it was hot? We also did not get our water bottles for brushing our teeth replenished daily. Every night we would ask for a bottle of water at the bar. When you know the water is not safe to drink, this should be a priority. Every day there would be a strong smell of paint fumes when we got back to the room. It was so strong one night we had to open the window and hang our heads out for fresh air. I called to request a fan to circulate some air and was told they would bring one, but it never arrived. The clientele at this resort are not the classiest. It's the place where the People of Walmart go on vacation. One night our neighbor across the hall was in the hallway in his underwear yelling and blaring music. He'd leave the door wide open with music as loud as could be. I called to request security and was told someone would be right up and they never showed. The lobby has a horrible smell of cheap men's cologne all the time....pretty sure they diffuse it, but I still cringe when I think about the smell. The drinks are terrible. The margarita I got was the worst I have ever tasted. We tried several different drink combos and couldn't tolerate any of them. There is only one bar at night and it's in the lobby. Service is severely lacking here. No one offers you anything EVER...not at the pool, beach, lobby, etc. All the restaurants are extremely slow. People would leave after waiting 45 minutes for food, which was definitely not worth the wait. The only person who was friendly was the pushy salesman in the lobby who wanted to sell you a timeshare. Everyone else acted as if we were an inconvenience. We purchased two excursions from one of the travel agents in the lobby. NOTHING she told us about the tours was true. We wanted to visit Isla Mujeres and instead ended up on a 3 hour boat ride with only an hour and a half actually on the island. We were also told we would have 3 hours at a highly recommended private beach club on the island, but that was actually an hour long lunch stop at another place in which we had about 15 minutes to relax after waiting in the long line for food. Do not depend on this hotel to help you plan excursions...book it on your own before you go! The beach--there's trash scattered all throughout the sand, cigarette butts (because yes, smoking is permitted throughout the outdoor spaces here--gross), questionable other items hidden in the sand. Hard plastic chairs, and the constant sound of construction being done to the hotel as well as fumes from the jet ski tours they try and sell. It would also be nice if they had a roped off section so that vendors could not approach you to sell things. The nudity--You will see parts of people that you don't want to. We were so afraid we would turn a corner and accidentally run into a topless woman or something. The top optional sections don't really apply because people are topless everywhere...all the pools, beach, and even at some of the evening shows. We saw men with no pants as well. While relaxing on the beach people are constantly taking naked pictures by the water in front of you totally obstructing the view. We were so sick of the atmosphere, drinks and food we skipped our last day we had planned to be on the beach and ventured into town and got real drinks and food. The ONLY good thing I can say about this resort is the coffee shop had one good server and the drinks were good there. So we drank a lot of coffee. If you've never traveled you might think this is a decent place, but trust me, you deserve so much better!!! Spend your money elsewhere.
