Our Opinion

Good 4.5-star resort in Cancun. There are great options with regards to buffet and a la carte items. The staff is friendly and pleasant. There are a lot of daytime activities and excursions available for those wanting to venture outside of the resort. However, there were only a few nightly shows. The only issues that guests experienced were the inconsistent operations of the air conditioning system throughout the resort and rooms. There can be quite a bit of noise near the pool area. This resort is perfect for families or those with young children.

Budget friendly resort that is clean and making upgrades

I had a hard time of how to rate this resort. It is definitely a budget resort and because of that a lot of local people stay here. My first impression was wow, what a nice lobby! It's beautiful. You do not get free wifi thru out this resort so the lobby is always busy with people because of the free connection there. When we got to our room I noticed the budget part of this resort. Very old couch with stains, outdated decor, paint pealing on walls, old tub and sink, etc. But it was clean and kept clean for our entire stay. The bedding was crisp white and seemed very clean. When you are downstairs you notice more of the outdated areas. A lot of the restaurants and just the overall resort in general. The 3 tier pools seemed to be big enough for everyone and there is an adult only pool on an upper level which is nice. Looking around the pool area, you can again see it is dated. I can see where they are putting money into the resort though as well. The public bathrooms by the lobby were nice, updated, and clean. The sports bar looked very new, all the way from the decor to the cushions on the benches. The swim up bar was under construction while we were there so I imagine that looks great now as well. The gym and spa area was very nice as well. You can tell they cut back on the quality of the food in comparison to other resorts that I have been to. I feel bad giving this resort a 3 because the staff were all very nice, great service, everything was clean and I always saw people cleaning non-stop, on a beautiful beach, and many upgrades have been done. But I still feel it has a ways to go. I'm hoping over time I can upgrade this review to a 4. I am a travel agent so I tend to really examine and pay attention to a lot of details that some people may overlook. There are some amazing resorts in the Cancun/ Riviera Maya area so I know how much work there still needs to be done to be up to their scale. I think and hope this resort keeps moving forward making improvements.

I can see they have not changed!!

Our family stayed here in 2012 and it was so horrible that after 2 days we paid $1,000 more and moved to another hotel. Anyone saying that this place is great has to be out of their mind. Hotel staff were rude, place was filthy, bird poop on chairs, bar pool was filled with dirty warm water, drinks were disgusting, the food was absolutely inedible, rooms were old and bed was very uncomfortable. What air conditioning there was in the room leaked and a few of us fell!! The whole place smelled like a sewer and the place had hissing cockroaches everywhere!! I now see why the restaurants were dark!! Wouldn't stay here if it was free--BEWARE!!!!!!

Best family vacation!!!

We stayed here for a week in April with our 4 children ages 9,7,4 and 4 months. We got 2 rooms next to each other on the 8th floor and the view was amazing, ocean to the left and lagoon to the right. The rooms were nice and big and always very clean, the maids did a great job. The beach was beautiful and the pools were clean and very nice. Our highlight of the trip was playing soccer on the beach everyday and playing sports in the activity pool, the activity staff was awesome! The kids club was amazing, our kids had so much fun and I believe they were open until 9, they would take the kids to the buffet for dinner and the parents could go for a nice quiet dinner on their own. I was worried about the drinking water situation from reading some reviews but there was water coolers everywhere, The kids section had water coolers and self serve pop machines and you are never more than a minutes walk from a bar and they would fill up your own bottle or give you a cup so water wasn't an issue at all. We all brought water bottles we filled up and took to our room with us in the evening. We loved the Creperie, kids had crepes, dougnuts and ice cream everyday! We have been to many resorts and some very high end resorts in Cancun but the service we received at the Great Parnassus was the best we have ever had! Every single staff member we came in contact with was happy and pleasant and they all completely exceeded our expectations. Everyone worked so hard and really took pride in their work and their jobs, Huge shout out to Efrain our server at the buffet, we made sure to sit in his section for each meal as he was amazing and went above and beyond for our large family every time. I can't say enough good things about this resort, we will be returning next year and can't wait to bring our extended family this time and share this gem with them.

Another Honest Review from a Family of 4

Stay was for 7 nights and 8 days. For starters the lobby is magnificent and open.PROS: We have a 2yr old and 5 yr old that really enjoyed the kids club and water park. The entire resort is kept very clean especially for the size of the property. The food was amazing including the buffet...though it really is not a buffet (majority of foods are made to order and lines short). No reservations needed for restaurants and no lines very short wait if there was one. Beach was absolutely beautiful and service was excellent. (when there are red flags(rough surf) on the beach watch your little ones). Someone is always asking you if you need anything (servers). Activities for all ages are continuously going all day and early evening. If you smoke this resort has places for you to smoke and you will not be hassled, just use respect is all.CONS: Now for the only bit of negative feedback. I do not want to do this part because it was an amazing experience throughout but I have to keep it real. We stayed in the family suite with bunk beds which was pretty cool. Bathrooms or least ours needs updating. towel rack under the sink actually fell out covered in rust where the screws were supposed to be. Tub/shower very narrow and a little dangerous getting in and out of if you have little legs. Water pressure a little to low but always had hot water. They missed our room twice while we were there to tidy up and never left us face cloths. It was a great experience with great people. I will definitely return again for the price and its family friendly atmosphere....and of course the food. :)
