Our Opinion

Good 4.5-star resort in Cancun. There are great options with regards to buffet and a la carte items. The staff is friendly and pleasant. There are a lot of daytime activities and excursions available for those wanting to venture outside of the resort. However, there were only a few nightly shows. The only issues that guests experienced were the inconsistent operations of the air conditioning system throughout the resort and rooms. There can be quite a bit of noise near the pool area. This resort is perfect for families or those with young children.

Group of 10, with 5 kids - Review

We stayed there for 8 days and had a great time.Food:- French restaurant was fantastic. Food and service is like a 5 star restaurant in Europe. This is reserved for adults only with dress pants and closed shoes. Must try!- Steak house (Big ben), Mexican restaurant and Japanese restaurant (Samurai) were good as well. They are open to kids. Highly recommended.- Italian (Portofino) and sandwicheries (Manhattan) are average. It's worth a try but they are average.- Buffet/food court is OK. That's the only option for breakfast. They have stations with different specialties (asian, poultry, mexican, meat, ...) with cooks at each. We have seen better :)Entertainment: Nightly shows are OK. We saw 7 shows and about 3 were good. Great animation, great ambience with great dancers. The rest were boring or lacked skills.Services: It's up to you! We always make an effort to connect/talk to all the waiters/staff. We get to know them and we ended up with above average service. On the other hands, you could be spending 7 days there and be totally ignored by everyone.Excursions/concierge: Always helpful. Plenty of choices inside the hotel you can negotiate. Nexus Tours (Jose Maria) was great and accommodated us.Pools and activities: water parks, kids club, mini golf, animal feeding, ... we had a great time. Highly recommended for kids between 5 and 12 year old. Surroundings: Beach is clean. Everyone loved it. There is no stores nearby. you need a cab/bus to go around. It's about 25min to get to downtown cancun.Rooms/Common areas: Common areas are well maintained. They looks new. It reminds me of the Venitian in Las Vegas. On the other hand, rooms are getting old. Cracked tub. Plugged sink, broken light switch. They need to renovate soon. Also, we were near the ice machine and the staff came by at 6AM every morning to fill up on ice cubes for the breakfast buffet. This was noisy and not great.

Family vacation with young kids

We book our family vacation last minute and got a really good deal at the Great Parnassus Family Resort. We went with another family, therefore there were 4 adults and kids from 3 - 10 years old.Food: Food was really good. The buffet had lots of options, restaurants were good, crepiere had great coffee. The buffet is a weird layout and requires lots of walking when you have small kids but it kind of grows on you as no station ever seems that busy. The cooks at the stations were friendly and quick. Everyone in our group really liked the food overall. Also no reservations required at the restaurants either! Rooms: Every room has a view of the ocean which is really nice. The rooms are clean and the cleaning staff would sometimes put a towel creation on our bed, which the kids loved. The cleaning staff did a great job everyday cleaning the room. But overall the rooms are old and in need of some TLC. The beds are very hard. We like a hard bed but this was very similar to sleeping on the floor. But you can make due for 7 nights. Pools: The kids area with the waterslide and pirate ship are really good. Our kids loved it. There are a lot of rules to be aware of though - no drinks or food (not even water), no adults on the pirate ship, no umbrellas if it's windy, etc. This area is on the other side of the resort from the main pools. The main pools are great. They have a full view of the ocean and are clean. There is no swim up bar but looks like they are renovating or building one. Lots of available chairs too. Beach: The ocean was amazing but it was rough most of the days we were there. The sand is nice but they could make more effort to clean the seaweed but not a big deal. Lots of chairs and the bar was good. Overall the hotel is good. It just needs some TLC - staff is always around and cleaning everything so it's clean. Nothing is amazing but nothing is terrible either.

Resort for families

Overall we enjoyed our stay because it was relaxing. Check in was easy - thank you Silvia for your wonderful service during our stay! Very competent in taking care of all our needs. Our room overlooked the hotel next door that was doing renovations which started early in the morning, asked to be moved and she took care of it as quickly as possible. The beach - Loved the beach but the surf was a little rough, which my teenagers liked. They could do a little better job of clearing away the seaweed but it wasn't too bad. There is beach service for drinks plus a bar right on the beach. You can walk to the outdoor snack bar which is by the pool and bring your food back to the beach. We usually were able to get a palapa but people definitely put their towels down to hold them. You will have some people come through trying to sell stuff but wasn't enough to bother us. The resort gives you one towel card per person.Food - they had a variety of restaurants but being vegetarian our choices were very limited with the specialty restaurants. We ate in the buffet most nights and were able to find enough options to get by. The quality of the food was average. Staff in the restaurants were all friendly. The ice cream was not great. Low grade soft serve. The Creperie options were limited, it would be good to have some fresher toppings rather than what seemed like canned fruit and cheap sauces. Big plus for the a la carte restaurants was you didn't have to make reservations. More resorts should be like this!Room - it was clean. View was great. Beds were comfortable enough. The 1st room we had the shower door didn't close properly and the 2nd room the maids did a good job of cleaning up but never left any hand towels. Both rooms had a jacuzzi tub but we didn't use it - the jet area looked dirty. If you like to watch tv, there are only a few English channels - but who goes on vacation to watch tv. The elevators can be slow so you end up waiting. There were a couple days when an elevator was out of order and with a building this tall, it definitely impacted your wait time. Some people complained in their reviews of the noise echoing up from the main level but we didn't notice it at all when we were in our room. Pool - we didn't spend any time in the pool area, just walked through it to get to the beach. I liked the look of the triple infinity pools. The water park area is for younger kids. Nothing teens are interested in.There are a few staff members which I need to mention because their service was excellent. Silvia, in guest relations was great! David in the buffet restaurant was awesome! He was extremely friendly and attentive to his tables. Also in the buffet restaurant was Gelvin (who made sushi) was great. We are vegetarian and she would make us vegetarian sushi rolls that were yummy! The staff work hard and we always saw something getting cleaned or painted. Would I go back to this resort? No, I would like a place with better food options for vegetarians. Plus I would like some non-motorized water recreation options.

Would not go here again!

We travelled from April 14th-21st. Let me start with the good as there is not much to say. The only good things was the food, was surprised how great it was and the weather was beautiful. Now things to consider before booking this hotel. My main thing I didn't like was the fact that you had to buy bottle water they do not give any in your room. I have travelled to many resorts in Mexico and the one thing they always say is that you should not use the water to brush your teeth. I feel that you shouldn't have to buy bottle water. The Italian restaurant did not have wine if you wanted it with your dinner you had to pay for it. Isn't this an all inclusive resort they should have at least had an house wine. Also make sure you should keep an eye on your pool towels. Twice we had ours stolen. The first day they were really nice and helpful. On our last day we went to the pool and put 4 towels on the chairs and went for breakfast upon returning to the pool we only had 2 towels. We went to the front desk and the lady that helped us wasn't helpful at all then she had an man help us which was not better. He first told us we had to wait until the end of the day to see if any were left at the pool. I told him that this was our last day and was not going to worry about until then. He then said he can give us 1 towel card for the day but if the other towel does not get found then he would charge us $35.00 I was so upset and said I am not paying for a towel people should have respect was other people towels. Finally asking to speak to the manager he gave us the 2 towel cards. I could buy new towels at home cheaper then that. I will never return to the Great Parnassus family resort and will not recommend it to any one.

Nice resort for younger kids - needs some TLC

We were a family of six with the youngest child 13 & oldest 16 years. The 13 year old found some water sports to participate in but there wasn't much for the older 16 year old girl. The rooms were OK but needed to be updated. The entertainment was geared for younger kids with nothing for the older kids except for an old pool table & a few other game tables. The food for breakfast & lunch was a large circular buffet with many choices but required you to go to many areas. The staff was always very pleasant & helpful with getting drinks or something you forgot to get. Dinner was served in restaurants - Japanese, Mexican & Steakhouse were very good the rest not that great. Everything was inside with none of the restaurants or entertainment opening up to the beach or pool. The beach bar had great bartenders Manuel, Luis Ortiz, & Fransisco which always were a lot of fun. The hotel was quite a distance from the downtown or nightclubs & taxis are very expensive - the local bus is $1.00. I would give this hotel a 3 star rating.
