Our Opinion

Good 4.5-star resort in Cancun. There are great options with regards to buffet and a la carte items. The staff is friendly and pleasant. There are a lot of daytime activities and excursions available for those wanting to venture outside of the resort. However, there were only a few nightly shows. The only issues that guests experienced were the inconsistent operations of the air conditioning system throughout the resort and rooms. There can be quite a bit of noise near the pool area. This resort is perfect for families or those with young children.

Awful! Avoid at all costs

I have been all over for vacations, and this "resort", if you can even call it that, was by far the worst place I have ever been. I have NEVER written a hotel/resort review prior to this, but I would never want another family to waste hard earned money here. 1- the staff speaks limited English and was down right rude. They needed to find other staff members to attempt to communicate. And even that was difficult. Not "American Friendly" at all. Also their other guests were at least 80% Latin and that is who they are geared to cater to.2- the food is awful! The buffet is a joke. Again, the cooks do not speak English so good luck ordering something with out a friendly guest next to you willing to translate. But aside from that, awful food. And one day they "forgot" our room service. 3- the place is grimy! They are well aware it needs an upgrade, but the ENTIRE place needs to be re-done. Hard as a rock beds, dank and dirty bathrooms, pools are disgusting, patios have horrible drainage and smelt like sewage when it rained. The "theater" is smaller than an average movie theater and the seats are broken and the place smells like a gym locker room! 4- time share. To save money on excursions they will rope you into a "way to save money on vacations"...time share, talk" they will say 90 minutes tops but it was 2 1/2 hours and I ended up yelling at the man out of frustration and stormed out after they would not take a 1/2 hour of "no I'm not interested thank you". 5- kids club. Disgusting! Get a tetanus shot before entering! One falling apart pool table, one air hockey and one ping pong table along with 4 x boxes, BUT you are only allowed 1 game (and 1 remote) per room (also one one activity at a time per room) so if you have more than 1 child, prepare for one to be bored. Also, the kids pool was closed 4 of the 5 days we were there. 6- unorganized. No one was helpful at all. One day they had NO pool towels for a good portion of the day! They send you to a booth by the pool, those people send you to the mini golf booth on the other side of the hotel, and those people send you to the lobby, and the lobby tells you to go back to the first place! It was very aggravating! All in all you get what you pay for. My advice is spend the extra $500 or so and stay at the Royal Solaris or something with better overall review. The positives reviews I read on here must be from people not expecting much to begin with!

Remembering my Son

My family and I stayed 6/15-6/20. On day 1 I felt trapped and upset with how long "VIP" check-in took. Btw, VIP check in is just being checked in where there's AC vs in the stifling hot open air lobby. The entire lobby and all the common hallways have no AC. I hated that. The food was horrible. The room service food was beyond disgusting. And the room service menu is very limited. The drinks were unimpressive. Even if you tipped good the drink was "blah blah". Our rooms- ocean front rm 543 (dirty, dated, hard bed w/no blankets a dome shaped shower that was rusty and didn't work) Family Suite rm 535 (same- dirty and dated) Lagoon Suite rm 504(same-dirty and dated). Elevators are HOT and slow. One elevator had air. Simply put- for me, it's a absolutely would never return. Period. I will give Sylvia and the folks in the Mexican restaurant a thumbs up for helping my family and I celebrate the life of my son who was murdered last year. This resort has to improve the rooms. My bed had sand in it, after housekeeping "cleaned up". The bathrooms are simply appalling. Slow flushing toilets that clogged easily. Our shower was so rusty, and the adjustable shower head that you can move was broken, the steam didn't work nor did the 6 other shower heads that are supposed to give this awesome shower experience. I didn't even use the jacuzzi on my balcony. My daughters played in it. The only benefit of the ocean front room is the balcony and the view. We made the best of it. Only 2 electrical outlets. I love Mexico. This was my 3rd visit and I'm already planning to return next month, obviously staying elsewhere though.

WORST Resort in Cancun

Its too bad that I have to write a review like this because I don't like to but I hope it helps future travellers and the hotel alike to make better decisions. Lets start with the staff. There are a couple staff members that were great but for the most part they are completely money hungry and will not lift a finger unless paid to do so. My son lost his bracelet in the pool because he's 4 and likes to chew things. We searched for it and couldn't find it, after we came to the conclusion it was gone we were told we would need to pay $200USD to get a new one for him. I told them this was absolutely ridiculous and they proceeded to tell me if I chose not to pay this they would call the police, unreal. Some of the staff were very rude to my wife and didn't think she spoke Spanish which they soon realized she did after they were speaking about her at the pool in a very rude way. The rooms were nice but very dirty. We had an ocean view suite and the cleaners did make up our beds and tidy up but the floors looked and felt like they hadn't been swept in a month. Our fridges were never restocked with water and were completely empty upon arrival. When I called down to get some water bottles it would take an hour to get them. The food at the resort is of very low quality and the buffet has 0 organization. There are no lines, several times the people cooking the food were not even present and there were dirty dishes and old scraps of food laying everywhere daily. It says family resort but while I was laying on the beach with my family there were several people coming up to me, probably every 20 minutes in front of my kids asking if I wanted drugs. This is not a pleasant experience while you are trying to relax and enjoy the beach with your wife and children. The security did nothing to stop these people from coming around the beach and at times I saw them joking around with some of these people as if they were friends. This was my first time in Mexico and because of this resort its left an absolute horrible taste in my mouth with 0 interest in ever coming back to the country. I hope the resort makes some improvements in the future and the Mexican people put hospitality before getting paid. The fact I have to pay employees to do absolutely anything I ask and they will not do it otherwise is disgraceful to the resort and to the country. Do NOT stay here you will be very disappointed and wish you never spent the $5000 you did to bring your family here.

Pros and Cons, but basically a good stay!

ProsThis place is Excellent for families with children - lots to do.Food was good, across the facility: BEST at the French place!CleanFriendly StaffNo bugsNice pools and well maintained pool/beach areaConsAC in our room was never good enough to relax. Seems to be set at about 76-77 or so and with limited humidity control. This would be an easy fix for the entire facility but it was not, even though we voiced a complaint and a dude came and 'fixed' it. I suspect this is a cost saver by the management and it made our stay less than it could have been.Short sheeting the beds............really, can't they spend the extra buck and get a fitted sheet that actually does not come off - every night? Very cheap - indeed.A musty smell, likely related to the AC issue. Pillows and the room as well. Dated bathroom and TV, and this would cost big bucks to fix across the facility - but it should be on the to do list. Other than the stated cons, it was a very nice stay and I would go back again, in a heartbeat.......but.........ONLY, if the AC was improved.......PERIOD!!! PS: We are both in our 60's, world travelers and like kids being around.
