Our Opinion

Good 4.5-star resort in Cancun. There are great options with regards to buffet and a la carte items. The staff is friendly and pleasant. There are a lot of daytime activities and excursions available for those wanting to venture outside of the resort. However, there were only a few nightly shows. The only issues that guests experienced were the inconsistent operations of the air conditioning system throughout the resort and rooms. There can be quite a bit of noise near the pool area. This resort is perfect for families or those with young children.

GREAT Time!

We just returned last night from an incredible week at the Great Parnassus. We traveled with our 2 children, age 2 and 4. This is a great family choice. The staff were amazing with the kids (and us). Big shout out to Armando from the restaurant, Roger at the pool bar and the entire hotel team. The food was great and there was always a huge selection, including a fresh smoothie bar at breakfast and lunch.Pools and kids area are very well maintained. There is even a swimming "ledge" for lack of better words in the main pool for kids. This worked great for us as we didn't want to spend the entire day at the kids pool. We will definitely be back!

Vacation

I would definitely stay here again! The staff was so friendly. And the entertainment staff made the whole trip-they were so great with the kids and adults alike and there was always something fun to do for everyone. The theatre shows were so much fun and so was karaoke! There was so much to chose from food wise and rarely did I not like something...ill be back! 😊

NOT a good place for SMALL CHILDREN

The Great Parnassus -- NOT SMALL CHILD FRIENDLY AT ALLThis place is appropriately priced, well maintained and pretty. There is a really great pool area that has potential (although lacked execution). I don't think there is enough chlorine being used for the pools as there is disgusting slime/film/body scum along the edges of every one. There were several areas on the bottom where black mildew is growing. At one point there was a huge pelican using the pool as his personal bathtub for close to 10 minutes. There are many options for dining, although the food is still repetitive, as is almost any all inclusive I've been to. The room we had was the lowest priced one and had a really nice ocean view and was quite spacious. Large balcony with small table and chairs. There was a real wide variety of different people here, young couples, families, few older couples. The rooms are terribly noisy. Everything just echoes through the halls and up through the atrium. I could hear loud water running in the room adjacent to ours and above us while they showered. Like super loud. It sounded like there were little people in the walls fixing pipes the entire time we were here. Clinking, banging, doors slamming so loud it sounded like gunshots, etc. It is definitely "Mexico," meaning things are quite different than in the US when it comes to being up to code and safety. That usually doesn't bother me but since we brought our 2 1/2 year old along it DID bother me this time. There are 12 floors by the looks of it and we were on the 7th floor. The room door only had the knob lock on it which unlocks by pressing down on the handle. There is no upper deadbolt or chain lock like in the states so my 2 year old can just open the door up as he pleases. The interior hallway balcony rail is glass and I had a lot of anxiety about the thought of home opening the door and running out there into that glass or even climbing up over it (among many other things). It would have been nice to have a lock higher up or another lock that stayed locked when you pushed the handle from the inside. Also, the bathroom has a separate toilet room which has a lock and the bathroom itself had a lock, both which could've easily been locked by my 2 year old and he could've easily locked himself in there without us having anyway to get him out. It had the handle with the hole on the other side to unlock it but it's a turning lock on the other side so it's not as simple as just shoving a bobby pin in there to unlock it (didn't work, we tried a few different ways). You'd have to have the skeleton key to do it, which obviously, we did not. Luckily my husband noticed this before we had a bad situation on our hands. So we spent the whole stay with chairs in front of each door as a safeguard. Rooms are FAR FROM SMALL CHILD FRIENDLY. I was under the assumption this was a family friendly resort from all the reviews I read and the appeal of the kid's clubs and the kid's pool with all the slides, etc. It's family friendly for age 6 and above. I would not come back here again with little kids. There were a lot of other things as well that I noticed just because I had my young toddler along. The water area stairs were really slippery in the little kid part, the water temp over in that part was borderline hypothermic. There was no zero depth entry for small children. The kid's clubs had some questionable fire safety issues. The 18 month-4 year old area (baby club) had an enclosed room in the back with only one entry and no exterior windows. The indoor/outdoor carpeting was super thin and did not do much for padding if the little ones were to fall off the equipment, it'd be pretty much like landing on concrete. The playground equipment in that area had low sides which panicked me a few times as my toddler looked like he may go over (and smash his head on the concrete below). The slide had no sides whatsoever and actually had a large gap where a small kid could fall right off. Just all sorts of things you take for granted in the US as being standard. I understand that I probably could've found a lot of this out if I had researched even more ahead of time (although I read a ton of reviews and the forum). I also understand that this IS Mexico and not the states so things are just different. I love Mexico. I just wanted to put this out there so a family with small children knows what they're getting at this resort. I would consider staying here again if it were just my husband and I, however I would NOT stay here again with children unless they were quite a bit older.

Just OK

We stayed here in January 2017 for a week. My wife, 3 year old and myself. Room was clean and somewhat up to date, large space for a room, safe was easy to use, lots of storage, bathroom could use an updating for sure but was pretty clean. Lots of food options, the buffet was a bit repetitive but there are many choices to eat at besides the buffet. This is our seventh time to Cancun first at the great Parnassus, The staff was not overly accommodating compared to other resorts we've been to. they're always staff members that stands out at other resorts, but none of them really stood out to me, and one by the snack bar was flat out rude to me!. Beach was clean and large area, A lot of chairs and cabanas to use. The pool area had a lot of chairs and space, but the pool itself was gross. There were areas that have Xbox ones for the younger ones, and some water waterslides for children also, but the water was absolutely freezing in all the pools!. For what we paid not really worth it, would only stay there again if I got a way better deal.

Good Experience

The entertainment and customer service was exquisite. I will say, the rooms could use an update, the beds are hard and the showers/bath tub could use updating. But all in all everything else was fantastic! Shout out to my new friend Rodrigo for the morning beach yoga, stretching and dancing! ;)
