Our Opinion

Located at the edge of the main strip, the Holiday Inn Cancun is an OK resort. This is definitely a better option for those looking for a short stay in Cancun. The majority of staff here are friendly and pleasant. This hotel has an all-inclusive option, and there are some do's and don'ts for certain guests, making it sometimes a bit of a hassle. The all-inclusive options when it comes to food is adeqaute. This resort is a great option for families or those looking for a quieter stay in Cancun. However, because of its location, its options, and price, there are a lot more suitable resorts to choose from that are of better value.

Mediterranean style property, stands out as one of the best values in the hotel zone, with a charming atmosphere and surrounded by tropical gardens.

Location: Beachfront, 20 minutes from the Cancun International Airport, just a few steps away from Cancun Hotel Zone.

Credit card...

Typical Holiday Inn property in terms of a clean, comfortable room.Check-in - the front desk staff was indifferent to me. But more importantly, even though a 'chip and signature' method was used for my credit card. Credit card approved and license copied. But the staff wrote down my credit card number, expiration date, and 3 digit security code on the back of the credit card receipt. I ask why; reply "those are our rules". An incredible amount of personal damage can occur with this information (including the license). I've called the bank for a replacement credit card, unfortunately.Asked about the airport shuttle. For a Holiday Inn, the lack of English was surprising. I was aware of the taxi of course, but what I was asking about was a shared shuttle such as those used in many places. But the staff had no idea about what I was speaking of.The breakfast buffet was horrible in terms of food flavor, selection, and quality. No bacon? Finally, I was there for one night before I went to the airport, so the stay was OK. But, beware, if you are planning to vacation at this property, don't. The beach area is 10-12 feet wide, i.e. edge of property to the sea. There are few loungers and even fewer umbrellas.

Decent stay in 3 star resort

Booked with my airmiles for 8 nights. Overall, I enjoyed our stay very much given this was a minor cost to the trip. The good:Hotel is clean, some areas recently painted with vibrant colors, room was very clean if a bit spartiate, 2 double beds with hard mattresses, decent pillows, TV with some English channels (although the variety of channels changed during our stay), shower stall, 2 bottles of water per day; by asking nicely, I was provided with a sea view, which was appreciated. Also, the location on the bus routes is great for those like me that prefer economical options to move around...10.5 pesos (1$) a ride...use pesos, its cheaper that way.Breakfast was quite good, Mexican and international options available, with variety and changes everyday. And the service. We manage in Spanish and I found the staff to be so helpful. Thanks Francisco and Claudio! Norma was also of great help for day trips. Merci! Good beach towel and free chairs with palapas! The badThe small beach, and the algae ridden water. Mind you, the sea here is perfect for young children, there is a large area with clean sand, and if you swim a bit further, the bottom is also clean...the water itself is waves due to Isla Mujeres. The main pool, which is small and not easily accessible to handicapped people. There is also a smaller pool in the other wing.Areas of improvementsThe gym needs to be refurbished a bit. The elliptical did not work, The room was damp and smelled. The bikes could be replaced, no foot straps. The other meals...we used the restaurants a few times...the food was not very good...frozen pizza dough, bland pasta, overcooked langosta with cold sides...margaritas were from very good to poor...Wifi was great in the lounge, beach and pool area, but spotty on the floors and rooms.Having been in a few other resorts, I cant go above the 3 stars...but for the right price, this is a pretty fair option, which I would go back to.

Fantastic bang for your buck

My wife & I were pleasantly surprised. Here's the real review. The rooms, pool, beach, service were fantastic. My wife loved the food. I wasn't unhappy with the food, but not blown away either. But if she's happy...I'm happyWe didn't mind that most of the staff spoke little English. There were a few exceptions like our awesome waiter Jose and the activities coordinator (I'm so sorry I forgot his name). We also didn't mind being among the few Americans staying here. We met some of the most friendly folks who were vacationing from other parts of Mexico and South America. This is not a big "5 Star property", but it's not full of 5 star hassles and expense, either.Great bang for your buck!

1 night in Cancun so had to stay here! Great views from the balcony of my room and a pool area with bar too!Pool leads straight onto the beach, chairs and towels are available free for guests.Perfect Just so relaxing!Hotel is old, but I found it clean and tidy, no concerns, staff friendly and helpful.Internet good in rooms, by pool and also on beach in front of the hotel. My only negative comment s there is an Airport transfer - so i rang the hotel when I landed and was told to wait by door 3 - in 20 - 30 minutes the driver would arrive.1 hour later still no shuttle, so I took a cab for 160MX$ - Don't wait for the shuttle grab a cab and get to the hotel and start enjoying Cancun :-)

Below Expectations

You'd think a Holiday Inn would at least have drinkable water in the room - like every other chain hotel on this tourist strip. You'd be wrong. We also struggled to find staffers who understood or spoke English. I was shocked. The room was basic, as were the amenities. Nothing stood out. The pool wasn't impressive, nor was the beach access - water was pretty dirty. I was honestly surprised that Holiday Inn would keep their name on this location. It wasn't a pit, but it we stayed at 4 hotels while in Mexico and it was a distant 4th on our list.
