Our Opinion

An excellent choice for couples and mature travelers looking for rest and relaxation. The best part about this resort is their team. All facets of the resort is tended by incredibly friendly staff. They work tirelessly and do everything they can to ensure that all of your concerns are being met. The grounds and rooms are always kept in immaculate conditions. There are a variety of dining options (both buffet and a la carte) available. The menu changes quite often, so you're never left eating the same food twice. The resort is near a beautiful beach and has a great pool deck. Both are relatively big nad have plenty of loungers availble. You won't ever have to fight for a spot here!

Can't wait to go back!!

My boyfriend and I spent 6 days here for my 50th birthday. We couldn't have been happier with our choice. Right from the moment you pull up in front of the hotel you are treated exceptionally. The staff here is truly second to none. We were in a OV Junior Suite King on the 6th floor, view was amazing, a/c was cold, shower was incredible, bed was very comfortable, especially the pillows from the pillow menu. Snacks in the mini bar were eh....stale chips and the such....barely even worth mentioning. Restaurants were good except for Maria Marie, not the best meal. We both had steak and both were WAY undercooked. The rest of the meal was OK. Pelicanos - very good. Spice - great choices, all good. Asiana - hibachi table very good. The 24-hour lounge was a great place to stop in the afternoon and the coffee shop was great for those early morning cups and muffins. We didn't really utilize the swim up bar because the one time we did go over the smoke from the grill at Pelicanos was bothersome. Didn't really miss it tho. The service around the pool was amazing, the staff goes above a beyond. Catallino, Daniel, Fernando, Eloisa....just to name a few. Definitely take advantage of the area by the lap pool in the gym. Great place to catch a sunset or just get some peaceful quiet time. Also get up super early atleast once and go down to the pool or the beach to watch a sunrise. You WILL NOT regret it!! Absolutely beautiful. I really can't say enough about this place. We will most definitely be back again!!

Friendly, attentive, accommodating staff

My 11 girlfriends and I just spent four days & three nights celebrating our 50th birthdays here. Besides being a BEAUTIFUL resort with relaxing views, the staff was INCREDIBLE! #1. Ivan Gonzalez helped us with reserving two double-decker cabanas, answered our questions & helped us with getting a late checkout, at the very last minute. He always had a smile on his face. He remembered all our names too!! He took very good care of us! #2. Ligiha was the Best Waitress!!! She kept a smile on her face while we had her running back and forth to the bar all day. She made sure we were very well taken care of throughout the day. It's very hard to keep 12 women happy but she DID !!!!#3. Catallino Reyes took very good care of us as our poolside waiter. He was very attentive !! We liked him a lot. #4. Jose, the Spice host on Saturday night, deserves a raise !!! He handled our not so gracious group with extreme professionalism!! I will be back to stay at your resort. THANK YOU FOR A MEMORABLE VACATION!!!

Worth every penny

My husband and I chose to spend the last four days of our honeymoon at this resort and we couldn't be happier. The room is beautiful, the food is good, and the service staff are very friendly and attentive. The only slight downside is that the lobby has a nightly show that often goes to 11pm and the noise is definitely audible if you're on the first four floors. However, I have not found it a deterrent to my fun. The gym is lovely, and the small infinity lap pool has become my favorite spot for morning exercise. You can also use certain parts of the spa any time you wish. There are still massages and treatments that you have to pay extra for, but there are multiple whirlpools, steam rooms, sauna, and cold plunge that you can take advantage of any time. We have been so relaxed and refreshed during our stay and I would definitely recommend this spot to anyone even thinking about an all-inclusive

At these prices, why not perfection?

Spent a couple of nights here and found it unever. Mostly quite good, some so-so, some subpar, and one inexcusable. To start with, the place is all-inclusive, and tho' you can pay extra for some special things (spa treatments, romantic beach dinner), you'll find that there's too much here to do for one person to take it all in. There are culinary classes, a dizzying range of exercises, live shows, and of course the beach and the pools. All meals are included, all the alcohol you want, there's a mini-fridge in your room stocked with beverages, there's room service at your commend. The place is sumptuous--the entryways have stained-glass cielings, there are faux-Mexican columns everywhere. Your room, if it's like ours, comes equipped with a jet tub, balcony with hammock, all of the amenities you might expect from a first-rate hotel. It's fun when the maid folds up some towels into a couple of birds to decorate the room for you,That said, there were some minor glitches that made it less than wonderful. They do a turn-down service, and OK the little chocolate was nice, but they light a votive candle--at check-in they'll ask you what scent you want and I, a bit sensitive to perfumes, asked for none. So o our second night I got into the jet tub and my nose was singed by the smell of lavender or something--I threw the candle in the water. The elevators are set that the doors just might slam on you. Twice we needed to call maintenance to repair things (and to their credit they were prompt and effectice.) The room air condirtioner was inadequate--temps got up areound 24 C. during the day, we had it set for 22.5.A couple of tips for the savvy traveller. Much of the public area is not air conditrioned; the hotel is devoted to activity, so plan to wear a swimsuit or shorts almosrt all the time (a couple od restaurants on premise require long pants fdor supper). If you're interested in some quick snack food and booze, there's a game room off the lobby where you can serve yourself some nachos or wings and pour yourself whatever standard drink you'd like. If you pursue this option, you spare yourself the tedium of waiting for the too-relaxed Mexican service and of dropping tips for every little thing. (About those tips--in addition to the usual, put 20 pesos or so in your room mini-fridge. Your beverage guy will love you).Of the other food options, I enjoyed the coffee shop off the lobby--the barista started to recognize me, their espresso is good and the vanilla ice cream has that indescribable richness of Mexican vanilla. SWpice is an international buffet-style with rather superior food and attentive table service once you've served yourself; I had breakfast and lunch there and you can't go wrong. Pelicano's is out by the pool and includes a swim-up (well, wade-up) bar; I liked their divorced eggs for breakfast (if this is a divorce I want the green sauce in my settlement) and the Caribbean salad for lunch (great dressing), the flank steak dinner was OK. We found their service delightful. Then there was Maria Marie's, where the place was let down flat. They were the worst of the stay. First, we had a fairly large group, and even though the place was not nearly full, it took them forever to figure out how to put tables together--and thereafter, service was quite slow. It's supposed to be Mexican fare, but it lacked some authenticity. I ordered the red snapper (I think veracruz?) and what I got was a filet of some oily white fish, skin-on, with the skin soggy--and the skin was blue. I suspect either they ran out of snapper and thought I was too stupid to know that this was grouper or something--or maybe their chef can't tell the difference. Frankly, hotel management ought to look into that operation and clean house. So getting past those blemishes, I'd like to end on the positive note--the staff, from concierge to maids, was remarkably pleasant and helpful in all ways possible. It's a shame that there were so many little (and one major) blemishes on what could be a stay worth the high prices.

Great girl's trip at a great resort!!

Stayed at the Hyatt Zilara for the first time the third week of June. We knew that this is the "rainy season" so we expected to see a little rain during the week as we had been checking the forecast for a couple of weeks prior to the trip. What we were NOT prepared for was the monsoon that they received on our first day. Not a literal monsoon, but oh my, lots of wind and rain lol. However, every day after that first day was exceptionally beautiful. The hotel is absolutely beautiful and the staff went out of their way to be friendly and helpful at every turn. Our rooms on the 3rd floor were amazing, the view from every room at the Zilara is oceanfront so I'm not sure there is a bad room to be had! I had read a lot of reviews of the hotel and so I was expecting to perhaps have some bad experiences with the heat in the lobby or the rooms, the food, or perhaps with the upkeep of the cabanas or pool. Nope. I must not be as picky as some of the other reviewers, but the air in the rooms (at least the two our group stayed in) worked extremely well and the temp in the lobby was warm but not too warm and there was always a nice cross-breeze blowing so you didn't feel uncomfortable. There were workers in the pool cleaning every morning and it sparkled. They had a different show and/or band playing every night and they were very enjoyable. We ate at Maria Marie two nights, Spice one night, and Asiana one night. We all LOVED Maria Marie. The food was absolutely amazing, but the server, Oscar, really made the whole experience so much better. I guess he could tell we weren't sure what we wanted to order so he asked if we would mind if he chose appetizers and salads for us. Heck no, we didn't mind and we are so glad we let him choose for us. He brought us a few different appetizers to try and we got to try two different salads and then gave us suggestions for entrees. Everything was just amazing. The best part of the evening, though, was the after-dinner coffee drink (can't remember what it was called) that Oscar made table-side for us. Definitely a great show and a superb drink!! I don't think it is even on the menu so if you go, ask for a table in Oscar's section and ask for the special coffee at the end. Spice was really good, lots of variety. Asiana was our least favorite and was the one we looked forward to the most as it was booked up every night and we barely got in on the last night of our trip. If I could do it over, I would probably just go back to Spice or Maria Marie's. My daughter and I took advantage of the spa services and I highly recommend getting a massage there if you can. We got the "Wellness Experience" and I can tell you that it was the best 3 1/2 hours we spent on the whole trip. But I must say that the best part of staying at the Zilara was the great staff that truly went over and above to make sure we were all having a great time and kept our drinks filled and rooms clean. Thanks to Kevin at the pool bar. He was awesome and made the best drinks "with love". Thanks to Eloisa and David John. Incredibly nice and very helpful at every turn. I wish I could remember each and everyone's name but I can't, but these few (Oscar, Kevin, Eloisa and David John) really stood out the most. I look forward to someday going back.
