Our Opinion

The Ibersotar Cancun is an OK choice for those looking for a place to stay. It's a beautiful resort. Their grounds are immaculate and well-maintained. The rooms follow suit as well. The best part of this hotel is that almost all of the suites have an oceanview. The food varied in quality. While there were some restaurants that show promise. There are some that could use improvement. The buffet restaurant tends to be a bit repetitive with their food choices. There are plenty of restaurants outside of the resort if you're looking for authentic Mexican fare.

Mixed Bag...

Cons and Pros of our 5 night stay. This is our 3rd all inclusive stay in Cancun.Cons_____Handwashing towels were dirty on arrival. Called to get them replaced and they never showed. Couple days, bed linens had some stains.Front desk harrassed me saying that i entered 1 child, 1 infant in my pre paid Expedia booking. After i showed them email and app confirmation of 2 adults, 2 children, they still said theyd have to charge me. I told them to go F themselves. Service at pool and beach isnt as good as what we are used to at Palace Resorts. While most staff members were warm, many were dry.Pool activities not as good as Palace Resorts.Concierge will harass you via letter and phone to collect welcome package. Its a hard sell upsell. Dont answer.Pros______The pool area and set up is magnificent. Lots of umbrellas and seats. Great beach coast and rough waves. Great views We stayed in Villa building which i liked. More private, less noisy, and it was nice having our own small private pools.Anyone who tells you food at their all inclusive resort was amazing just doesnt really know good food. Im in the restaurant business and from a great restaurant town, so i lower my standards. That said, food was okay here. Buffet has a lot of variety, most of it bland but i was able to make myself a great Salad and Sandwich every lunch. Desserts were good. And i was able to enjoy a fresh omelette and toast mornings, so not much to complain about. The specialty restaurants were above average. Good show and appetizers at Hibachi but beef was little tough. Steakhouse had a nice flavored Ribeye but appetizers and Sides were super lame. The Mexican restaurant on the beach was best. If you are a golfer, Iberostar Cancun is golden. A solid course across the road at great resort rates. I pre paid for 3 rounds with cart, food, booze included= 205$ total. Great price. Miguel will take care of you.You can do better than Iberostar but you can do much worse. Truth is, despite some shortcomings, it provided great value. The reason we didnt stay at Palace Resorts' Moon or Beach Palace again was they wanted over 500 a nite. We paid 340 here.Would i stay here again? Probably not, but i wouldnt exactly rule it out.

Iberostar

All of the staff were great. They were always there to provide the things we needed and all of them were so nice and joyful to help. The property was nice and easy to access all areas and they kept it all clean. We stayed at a garden room villa and it was nice. The water was brown at times when coming out of the sink. The shower was nice but the water would switch from hot to cold during the shower and our lights would flicker. Our lights would just go off at random times and then come back on after a minute or so. They did keep our room clean and if we needed anything for the room we just had to ask. Next, the food was awful. It all seemed cheap and without flavor. We ate at the gourmet, the Buffett, and the steak house. All were disappointing. The only thing that was decent was the breakfast buffet. It was disappointing that we did not like any of the food and we had to leave the resort to get better food. Overall the resort was nice but I would not stay there again due to the food and the problem with the rooms.

Disappointed with Service and Rooms - Not a Five Star Hotel

I don’t usually write long reviews but I am for this hotel so you can make an informed decision and to say I was disappointed with almost everything with this hotel and it wasn’t a cheap hotel. But you can read and decide if you want to stay there based on all the reviews and this review of each part of the hotel service. I know I won’t be returning or staying at other Iberostar resorts. If I had to say one thing as to why – I would say their lack of customer service skills and really making the guests feel welcomed. Reservations/Check-In : I always book through the hotel website because it’s easy to make changes, get upgrades, or have complaints. We booked the transportation with the hotel and enjoyed that as it was just us and we went straight to the hotel. We also had our return time. Check in was very easy and room was available because we did that ahead of time through the online process. We had asked for a roll-away bed and it was in the room when we got there. Rooms: We booked a suite because we had two teens with us. First it’s the best thing to get when you have girl teens as they slept in the living area and we did ask for a roll-away bed. One slept in the pull out sofa and the other in the roll-away bed. I called housekeeping to get sheets for the pull out and the gentleman did an amazing job of setting that up. We had an ocean view with an awesome view of the beach, walk out balcony, and Jacuzzi. We stayed in building facing the ocean on even number side but I recommend the odd as you get a wider view of the beach. This includes room with an ocean view that are not suites. Beds were comfortable too and housekeeping did a great job of cleaning. But that is where the positive ends. The rooms are outdated and the restrooms need lots of work. Definitely not four or five star, I would say more like three especially considering the cost of a suite. My BIGGEST COMPLAIN is the room had two sliding doors to the balcony and the one in the living room had a no lock. I went to guest services two times that first night and nothing was done. We had to put the table and other stuff there so it couldn’t be open because the teens were sleeping there. The next day I went to them again and told them to fix it which they finally did but unfortunately on the last night it broke again. My husband was going to find a screwdriver to fix it because we know either someone wouldn’t come or it would take forever. However, he found a worker who came to fix it. The other issue is I told them the shower door didn’t close right and the water was leaking which isn’t good for a hotel but that never got fixed so just let the water keep coming out. Also the coach had a big stain on it, gross considering it’s a suite. I RECOMMEND guest services reps write things down and follow-up versus the guest. If they change shifts the next person should know what still needs to get done. Restaurants: I was able to communicate with the hotel directly and made reservations to all the restaurants and since we were staying in a suite we could go to one restaurant more than once, which I didn't know. So if you aren't staying in a suite you can only go once. When we arrived at the hotel, we were told all the restaurants were booked but we were fortunate because we did this a week before. If you use a travel agent or another site, remember to make reservations before you go. • Steakhouse “La Parrilla” – is very popular and we could only get a 7:00 pm reservation or it was earlier or later. 8:00 pm is a popular time and booked. We loved the selection and the service. I would say it’s one of the best restaurants. • Gourmet “La Horma” – SKIP! First it says men have to wear slacks but we were told men could wear jeans. I also saw men come in with shorts so they don’t stick to their dress code. Our service was so slow as it took almost an hour to get our food. I think they were short staffed as there were only two waiters in the restaurant but the tables weren’t all taken. That seems to be the theme as this resort that they have limited staff for everything. The food was ok, mostly disappointed. We canceled the other night at that hotel. • “Naga Hibachi” – we enjoyed this restaurant and the food. It’s like any other hibachi restaurant. Again the waiter seemed to be overwhelmed as it was a very big table and took a while to get some of the items or service. • Buffet – just your typical buffet, nothing great but at least gave options for breakfast and lunch. We did go one day for dinner when they had the other door Mexican theme night and that was fun. Beach: We spent all our time at the beach and were able to get chairs with shade. The water is a distance but not too bad. The water wasn’t clear and there were lots of rocks that it was hard to get in and out. Once you passed a certain point you were ok. I had to wear water shoes to get in. The service at the beach was slow but that is because they don't have sufficient servers on the beach or anywhere it seems. The first day Tish was our server and had to cover the entire beach as another worker didn't show up and she was also helping at the pool. But considering that she was very nice and helpful. The next day we had Isabel and she too was very nice and helpful. I would say best service was there. At night the turtles would come in to lay eggs. Bar Service and Drinks: Hotel does use the lowest brand of alcohol which is surprising considering the type of hotel they advertise as being five star. This also goes to the wine unless you buy more expensive bottles. I drink vodka and to specifically request Absolute or Malibu Rum but sometimes they ran out. Better going to get some bottles at a store and making your own drinks. We used the bar closest to the beach and that bartender never smiled or said anything. It’s like he didn’t want to be there or was frustrated. The bartenders in the lobby bar were ok but again I just felt here is a lack of customer service knowledge considering all the other hotels I’ve stayed in where everyone greets you, is nice, and friendly. I felt the staff at this hotel, with a few exceptions, just doesn’t know what service is all about.

Best Caribbean Vacation

Trust me this is by far the best resort in Cancun, The people go out of their way to make you happy, The food was great (although I recommend booking your reservations prior to arrival) The buffet for breakfast, lunch and dinner were super. If you don't eat eggs, they have a waffle, pancake station, cereals, breads, juices, meats. We opted for an ocean front swim out. This type of room is ocean front and has sliders that lead to a semi private pool. (Be aware that the room above you also has rights to the pool) So I thought it was adults only it turned out there was a family with young children. The pool was great, the drinks were made well, plenty of chairs down by the ocean, but to have the front row poolside your towels better be on a chair by 6am. Outside the buffet there is a chart with the days daily activities, beach volleyball, basketball, water polo, darts, shooting, ping-pong, etc. Water Park for the 2-5 yr olds. We left the resort to go downtown no worries security is everywhere. Taxi is about $12 one way for 4. Recommend Casa Ranoldi for dinner Italian. Please remember this is a 5 star resort and people are here for a relaxing stay.

Vacation

Absolutely LOVED our stay and can't WAIT to go back! The staff members were very attentive to our needs...anything we needed was done with a friendly smile and quickly. It's a very family friendly resort. We went on the Coba excursion and it was such a memorable experience! Our guide had a great sense of humor and made the excursion even more memorable! His name was Perfecto Mota (translates to "perfect weed" in English)... We all giggled thinking it was a joke and he said, "I get that all the time" so he passed around his driver's license as proof and it WAS his real name!! 😂😂 my family and I would highly recommend this resort! Im already booking for next year!!
