Our Opinion

The Ibersotar Cancun is an OK choice for those looking for a place to stay. It's a beautiful resort. Their grounds are immaculate and well-maintained. The rooms follow suit as well. The best part of this hotel is that almost all of the suites have an oceanview. The food varied in quality. While there were some restaurants that show promise. There are some that could use improvement. The buffet restaurant tends to be a bit repetitive with their food choices. There are plenty of restaurants outside of the resort if you're looking for authentic Mexican fare.

Highly efficient and well managed family resort

We have been to multiple resorts in Cancun and Riviera Maya area. We brought our 1 year old to this resort and overall were impressed with the level of efficiency that is displayed at this resort. It is solid across food, service, location, and activities. We most noticed that the resort just seemed well run - things worked like they should. We weren't blown away by anything in particular, but also so no areas for improvement - a sign of a well run resort. For details: Strengths: - Ocean is beautiful but can be rough at times. Lifeguards were incredible - saw them save someone by 10am who had got caught in a rip tide. Unspoken heros. - Family slide and pool area: Unlike other resorts, this was well positioned in the middle of the resort where you could also see the ocean. A great add that our one year old loved! The pool side service was also great with Angela- Drinks were good - especially with Juan at the ocean bar.- Breakfast - some of the best buffett breakfast we have seen. The omelette's were fresh and they make frest pastry's onsite that were delicious. Areas for Improvement - Rooms - The rooms as described are old and need updating. They are working on it. They were also hot as mentioned in other reviews...had to keep your curtains shut and therefore couldn't enjoy the ocean views. - Construction - Hotel can't help this but do request a room away from the construction. Our first room overlooked the construction sight and it was loud and unsightly. We contacted guest services and they quickly moved our rooms. - Food - The steak house is the best place. The rest of the food is just so so. Again, nothing bad but nothing great. Overall, we would absolutely love to come back to this resort but will be visiting other resorts first. It is a solid option for any family looking for a resort nearby the airport in Cancun.

Great Resort

Stayed here for three nights on a business trip. Mostly stayed onsite. I got an apparent upgrade to one of the villas. I don't know if they were nicer because I didn't have anything to compare it too. Possibly quieter because it's away from the mail hotel. Room was nice. Big. Well appointed but nothing outrageous or over the top. I wasn't left wanting. The grounds, pool, and beach are all wonderful. I'd bring the kids back. It's a little away from civilization but the bus runs 24/7 and costs $1 each leg. Happy about this place and would come back. If the food were better maybe five stars. Food isn't bad it's just average. If you book one of the restaurants - Habachi and Steak - the food was a little better.

phone scam

The hotel and amenities were fabulous. However upon check out my wife was told she used the phone and had not. We're charged extra, then found out at the airport he had done that to several other couples! Front desk clerk at 6 am on 12/5/16

A Wonderful Vacation

I can't honestly think of anything to complain about. This hotel was absolutely wonderful. Staff were attentive and friendly, food was good and plentiful. Room was decent and kept clean. There really seemed to be a lot of 'space' at this resort. The rooms were fully booked, but we never felt like there were too many people - in fact, we wondered where everybody was! The restaurants were only ever at half capacity at most, we didn't have to ever really wait for anything. There were tons of chairs available at any area of the pool or beach. There were hardly any 'party' people present - until the end of the week (Friday) and it was obvious that they had chosen the 'wrong' resort and ended up sitting at the pool bar all day and lobby bar all night. This is a family resort - but it wasn't over run with kids. Lots of quiet couples (both older and younger) and families with smaller kids. There's a wonderful kids pool/area (which was never super busy) and you could find a private spot in the main pools anytime you wanted. Even right at the edge of the infinity pool to enjoy a drink and take in the ocean view. This was our first stay at an Iberostar resort - and we would definitely go to another.

Terrible hotel

It wasn't the stained sheets that irritated me, it wasn't even the fact they put me directly above a construction site. It also wasn't how my key card stopped working and I had to walk back to the front desk 3 times for them to trust me that it didn't work. The thing that really did it for me was the awful drinks. I go on vacation for two things: a nice beach and a good margarita. I got one of those. I'll give the hotel credit, great beach and pool area and the food was decent. If you're looking for a good drink head over to the Westin. It's a little more expensive and not all inclusive but hey, it's Mexico you can get $4 margaritas and fish tacos for $5. Also, the iberostar claims to be a 5 star hotel, when in reality they should be a 2. Iberostar would not refund my money to Expedia.
