Our Opinion

The Ibersotar Cancun is an OK choice for those looking for a place to stay. It's a beautiful resort. Their grounds are immaculate and well-maintained. The rooms follow suit as well. The best part of this hotel is that almost all of the suites have an oceanview. The food varied in quality. While there were some restaurants that show promise. There are some that could use improvement. The buffet restaurant tends to be a bit repetitive with their food choices. There are plenty of restaurants outside of the resort if you're looking for authentic Mexican fare.

Family Wedding- May 2017

My family and I visited Iberostar- Cancun in May 2017 for my aunt & uncles wedding. It was one of the most beautiful and well cared for resorts I have visited. We had about 30 people in our group coming from all over the US. Everyone had a great time, with no complaints. Rooms:This resort is what I would consider a medium size resort. The rooms were very nice with a private balcony, comfortable bed, sofa, table, desk, dresser, mini refrigerator, TV, and large bathroom. Our room was at the end of the hallway, so we had a balcony that was actually larger than the room! I would highly recommend requesting a room with a large balcony if they have them available! Our air conditioning worked perfectly and kept the room very cold. PS. they give you unlimited water/soda/beer all for free in the room mini fridge. Beach/Pool:The beaches are all sand so you can just walk directly into the water without worrying about coral or rocks. The beaches are stunning with white powdery sane and crystal clear water. There are multiple pools at the resort, including a kiddie pool. The swim up bar attached to an infinity pool overlooking the entire beach. The set up of this resort is very well planned and gorgeous! We never had to get up early to “reserve” beach or pool chairs. There always seemed to be plenty of space. It was very nice not having to worry about making sure you have a chair saved.Dinner/Dining:We were with a very large group for a wedding (approximately 30 people total). We all ate breakfast at the main buffet in small groups, so no one had to get up at the same time. I am really unsure of the reservation situation for dinner because we always had a special reservation due to our large group size. We did eat dinner at one of the upscale restaurants every night and never had a bad meal! The food is very high quality and well prepared at Iberostar. There is a snack bar right by the Ocean. It is great for grabbing a quick bite for lunch or a late night snack.Main Buffet:The food was excellent at the main buffet! We only ate here for breakfast every day, but I cannot speak highly enough about it. Everything was so fresh and tasty. There were multiple stations where chefs could prepare your food exactly to your liking. The buffet has indoor and outdoor seating with views of the pool and beach.Drinks: Drinks were very good. You can really get anything: beer, wine, mixed drinks, frozen drinks, margaritas. We brought our own insulated cups and the bartenders would kindly fill them instead of the small disposable cups. It isn’t expected but definitely appreciated when you tip the bartenders and servers. They work very hard and we had excellent service all week!Staff/Events:The staff was amazing. Everyone was extremely friendly and helpful. Every night they had live music/entertainment in a large outdoor arena area. All of the shows were very fun and entertaining!Overall we had a beautiful time. The resort did an amazing job with my aunt and uncles wedding. I will absolutely be returning to Iberostar Cancun. I highly recommend it to anyone seeking a nice warm get-away on a white sandy beach.

Nice Larger Resort, Newer "Villa" Rooms Really Nice, All-Inclusive food = so-so

I stayed at the hotel 3 nights as part of a business trip. I got lucky and was upgraded to one of the Villa suites, which are in separate low-rise buildings away from the main hotel (which was built 20+ years ago). The Villa suites are much newer, very spacious and luxurious, and tastefully-decorated with white walls and colorful Caribbean-inspired accents. GREAT bathroom in the Villa suite, with a large walk-in shower as well as a separate tub/shower combo. Comfortable king bed. Large sitting patio facing one of the two private Villa pools (which nobody ever seemed to use), and a peek of the beach and ocean through the pleasant palm grove planted between the Villa buildings and the beach. It was really easy to pop down to the beach or main pool from my Villa. Some people in my group were in the original hotel rooms and said they seemed a little older/dated, but I can't speak to this as I never saw those rooms. Randomly, I stayed here 20 years ago in the main hotel when it was the Caesar Park Resort, but that was long ago when the hotel was much newer. The property is wide and fairly sprawling, with a big rectangular pool complex that leads to a HUGE rounded infinity pool with swim-up bar, overlooking the beach (great place for sunset cocktails!). The pool was nicely heated. There is a kid's water play area, a covered outdoor ping pong table, and other fun things for kids to enjoy. This seems to be a good family-oriented property, yet wasn't too noisy while I was there. The beach, while generally pretty wide in Cancun, seems extra-wide here at the Iberostar -- sort of reminded me of Miami Beach, it is so wide. As with most of Cancun, the beach is flat and well-groomed just as you step down onto the sand from the property, then drops off quickly into the ocean due to wave action and tides. Swimming in the sea was generally OK, but waves and wind tended to fluctuate day to day due to the Winter season. I'm sure it's more consisent other seasons.Service was generally very good, especially the concierge and the bell staff who gave me rides to my room a couple times. Please remember to tip the bartenders and other help as a lot of people staying at all-inclusives forget to do that, and these folks are working hard and could use the extra tip income. The only thing I wasn't a big fan of was the quality of the all-inclusive food. To be fair, I never made reservations at the fancier restaurants, only ate at the main buffet, at company-hosted buffet dinners, and once at the Mexican restaurant overlooking the beach (just OK, not terribly authentic Mexican food and fairly bland). That said, this is a mid-range all-inclusive so I can't really ding the Iberostar too much for buffet food quality. I am a little picky about my food and I think most would be fine with it.The property sits roughly 2/3 of the way down Isla Cancun, so you're about a 25-30 minute bus or taxi ride to downtown Cancun if you want to escape the resort zone and go a little more local. Buses run every few minutes and are an inexpensive way to get up/down the Hotel Zone and to/from Downtown (12 pesos per person each way). There are a lot of reasonable dining options in downtown Cancun and it's more "local" than the master-planned resort that is the Cancun Hotel Zone. There are also a number of restaurants, convenience stores, etc. a short walking distance across the main road from the hotel, on the lagoon side. All in all, if this is in your budget and you're looking for a reliable, well-kept hotel/resort with good facilities, a great beach and nice pools, definitely worth a consideration.

family vacation with kids

We arrived to Iberostar for family vacation with kids and meeting two other friends and their kids at this hotel. there are pros and cons.Pros- Beautiful and clean grounds. Nice and clean pools. Beautiful beach that gets clean every night.most of the staff are friendly especially at the kids club Denise and Irini very helpful with kids.Cons- while checking in to the hotel, the front desk person wanted me to upgrade my room with a balcony for extra 70 dollars a night. I decided hey I am on vacation and sure I will pay the extra money to get a better room with balcony and ocean front. but as soon as i checked in to our room I realized that i was put on the side of the hotel facing construction site. The kids were very tired from travelling and hungry so we went down to the buffet to eat. then I went back to the front desk to ask them if we can move to the other side of the hotel that is not facing construction since i paid extra for a better room but the front desk person said we are all sold out and there is nothing they can do about it. I tried to explain to them that I paid extra for an upgrade and this is more like down grade but they won't hear of it. so finally I asked them to put me back to my original room before the upgrade. After going back and forth arguing with me they finally decided to return my money and move me to my room with out the balcony. this room was actually a better room on the first floor facing the pool and away from construction site.then we had to repack everything and move down to the other room at 10 O'clock at night with two tired kids. very inconvenient. The pools are very cold. especially the children pool with pirate ship in it. I tired to convince my 5 year old to go in there for 5 min but he came out shivering. the entire week I think I saw one or two kids going in there because it was so cold. all the kids were sitting in the Jacuzzi instead of the pools. The food was just average, I was disappointed with food quality for a 4 start hotel. I got tired to eating at the buffet for lunch and breakfast after 4 days, no variety and the only restaurant open for breakfast and lunch.Honestly the best meal was the the one that we had the last night away from the hotel in the shopping center la Isla.10 min cab ride. Overall I would give this hotel a 3 star and I wouldn't return to this resort again.

Family Vacation

The first week of January, 12 of us traveled to Iberostar Cancun for a week-long family vacation. Some of our considerations for choosing Iberostar were: (1) family friendly (we had 1 minor in our group); (2) it is a quick ride from Cancun airport to the Resort; and (3) a golf course on-site. We found many positive aspects of Iberostar, and several negative aspects. We found the rooms (we had 5 standard rooms and 1 suite with a terrace & jacuzzi) to be clean, modern & well-stocked with beverages. There are only 3 elevators for 400+ rooms so at times, you can expect a long delay & a crowded elevator making stops by each floor, on your way to or from the lobby. Room service had a very limited selection, but was prompt with delivery. We found the food at the 4 speciality restaurants to be good and the snack bar grill to be good beach food. The 4 speciality restaurants require reservations. Upon arrival & our first day, we attempted to make reservations for the week, usually the 12 of us split into 2 groups for dinner. Not only was it difficult to get reservations, but help from the staff was minimal. Several times when we were turned away at the door for seating, we observed more empty tables than those being used. Two of the nights that we had reservations, we saw the same situation while eating our dinner. People were turned away while a majority of tables stayed empty & waiters stood idle, leaving guests the ONLY choice to be the buffet. The grounds were well-cared for, but there were many sets of stairs, or indirect ramps, leading to the main pool & beach. The beach was large, very clean, with plenty of recliners & cabanas, & the water was beautiful. We found less staff interaction here than any of the other dozen all-inclusives that we have visited. The exception to this was the entertainment staff; they all were friendly & enjoyable to interact with, especially Ailyan, who received our traditional state T-shirt award for the best staff person. While the entertainment staff was very good, night-time adult entertainment was severely lacking. Lastly, the golfers in our group all had nothing but great things to say about the golf course. Our take on Iberostar Cancun: if you are traveling with kids & don't mind elevator waits & eating buffet food most nights, it's a good place to stay. If you're a couple or a group of adults, then I have a much better recommendation for you.

Great location and excellent service

This was my fourth trip to Mexico and third to Cancun. I mention this to say I have a good idea of some comparables. Location: It is a great location not far from the airport. It’s close to the public beach if that’s your fancy. A quick ride to downtown as well. The Beach: Awesome! They have a lifeguard on duty, chairs and cabanas. A couple of beach volleyball courts and a beach soccer court. Great sand and great swimming area. The Grounds: Hands down one of the best pools out there. Huge, sprawling pools allows families an area of their own. The kids section has a pirate boat and a couple of water slides. There are several areas with plenty of shade where the water is only 10 inches deep for children to play safely. Lots of room in the big pool for adults and the necessary swim up bar. Besides the pool there are two hot tubs and an area of grass under the palm trees with plenty of hammocks for a nice nap. Food: The resort has many places to eat and the food was really great, and I am picky. Dinner requires reservations for the sit down restaurants. The Mexican restaurant was on the beach. The Special Tacos were mouthwatering. The Steak Restaurant cooked our filet perfectly; a beautiful medium rare. And the Hibachi grill was so fun! And food was suburb. There is a dessert bar, a coffee bar, and a burger pavilion. And the buffet was great too. Service & Entertainment. I did find quite a few service workers who did not speak very good English. This was not the norm in other hotels I’ve stayed. But the staff went out of their way to make you comfortable. The entertainment staff were the hardest working folks! All day at the pool and beach they had activities. And nighttime shows as well. I’ve seen better evening shows, but they were still worth seeing for sure. Building &RoomsThe rooms were clean and stocked with beer, water and pop in the fridge. The beds were comfortable and had good pillows. The bathroom was small and the tub was quite tall. Could be a problem for some with limited range of motion. Nice rain shower head. We had a tiny balcony and looked at construction and the beach. Shampoo and Conditioner were not great quality. The building was taken care of but was starting to show a bit of age in some places. The lobby was awesome- the flower arrangements beautiful. Great bars, cool hookah lounge. Lots of bars in fact. Really no need to leave the property.
