Our Opinion

The Imperial Laguna is a great budget hotel if you're looking for a place to stay for one or two days in Cancun. The hotel grounds are in need of some level of upgrade. The rooms are adequate enough, though they are also in need of an upgrade as well. The food is OK. There are a lot of good restaurants nearby, outside of the resort grounds that would also suffice. The great thing about this resort is that it is located in a prime spot near many great restaurants, nightclubs, and bars. However, if you're looking for a place to stay for longer period of time, there are a variety of other options to choose from.

For the cost conscious traveller, this comfortable hotel is on a pristine white sand beach and steps away from Cancun's nightlife.

Location: Minutes to beach, 25 minutes from Cancun International Airport and 15 minutes to downtown Cancun.

Very good place to stay!

This hotel was perfect for me and my family, because it's nice and quite. Rosario the housekeeper and her team Ana, Nayarit and Sandra were very friendly and keep our room clean all the time. The front desk people Edi and Yuri were very helpful too. For its location you can find restaurants, stores, and a laundry mat very close to the hotel. I will be coming back here next year!

Nice vacation with my brother for his 26 bday

PROS- I dont know what all the negative reviews on tripadvisor is about. This place is nice and clean. I am sitting here right now on the balcony amazed at the view. I love that this place is not to far from all the party places 15-20min walk. We caught the bus alot R1 or R2 to get there faster 5mins lol. The hotel is super quiet and everyone is so nice. We are in room 804 in the main building on the 3rd floor. They do have a working elevator it smelled a little but hey it works fine. The Frig, Microwave, and A/C works great. The A/C immediately took the muggy hot air away. We kept it on the entire time to stay cool. The shower worked fine, it does take a min or two to get warm but it works. The Frig looks beat down but dont be fooled it gets the job done. The WIFI works on the balcony not so much in the room according to my brother. The receptionist does tell you upon checking in that the WIFI only works in the lobby. I guess my brother got lucky with the WIFI on the balcony. I have Tmobile so I was able to use my regular internet, phone, and text for free just fine. Our room looks just like the photos posted on their home website. We have the double bed. Sandra the cleaning woman was great. She changed the bedding, towels, and provided new drinking glasses everyday. The lagoon is literally steps away connected to the hotel. We visited the sister hotel Dos Playas 5mins on the bus to view the beach and we ate there. They do offer food and drinks here at the hotel for cheap. However, we stayed out alot so we ate mostly at places in the party zone, which was cheap and good. The sister hotel they allow you to do everything swim, eat, beach, etc. At our hotel we swammed in the pool and it was cleaned everyday. The breakfast was good everyday. It is really basic just cereals, sweet rolls, toast, milk, orange juice. We were happy to eat breakfast especially after drunk nights lol. There is a convience store up the block were you can buy anything for cheap. Remember to keep the door closed for the balcony at all times to keep the bugs out. This is mexico people and the bugs are attracted to the light at night. I would definitely stay here again. We didnt have any problems with anyone stealing our things or going through our stuff. Trust me I set things a certain way to tell if it was even breathed on lol. REMEMBER everything in Mexico can be talked down for a cheap price. Dont settle for the first price people offer. The exchange rate is 1USD =18MEX. Many people with try to rip you off on prices if you let them especially downtown in the party areas. We didnt exchange our money at all. We brought alot of singles with us which makes it very easy to pay and not deal with alot of pesos. We had a blast and didnt spend a lot of money on food or finding things to do. CONS- The only reason its not 5 stars because the TV, we couldnt change the language to english. I asked the desk attendant and she politely told us the TVs are programmed only to spanish. Only two stations were in english channel 4 and 21. It wasnt a big deal because who comes to Mexico to stay in a room all day. Also, little things like no wash cloths, no iron, no toothpaste. None of those things bothered us because we brought our own wash cloths and toothpaste. We didnt really need the iron. The balcony is really my favorite spot. It looks unstable at first because one nail wasnt fully banged in the wall. However, after standing, sitting, and jumping on the balcony its really stable and secure. The workers here do a wondeful job of keeping the property clean and in great shape. Yes the property is old but its really nice soon as u walk in the door.

Ok place but not 100% sure I'd go back

Went to check in which took about 30 minutes and the main staff person looked like she hated life the whole time we stayed. It seemed like anytime we asked her anything we were inconveniencing her. Our room was large and clean, had a little bit of a musky smell but once yo turn on the air con it's fine. Staff just walk into your room though and don't knock which I hate. Also some of our souvenirs went missing which upset me as they were expensive.Pros and cons of our room 502. Right next to the lobby which is loud but you still get access to wifi which is only available in the lobby. You get a door leading out to the garden and pool area which is nice. The restaurant at the hotel was amazing but pricey as well. English speaking channels on the tv as well. Close to a small strip of restaurants which were very yummy and only 10 Minutes from the main strip.Overall ok and for the price it was good, but not 100% sold to go back

Good Choice If your travelling by car and using a GPS take note.

Nice and quite here. Close to buses.Has an elevator.Decent size rooms. There are a few restaurants close by and within easy walking distance. One very good and inexpensive one is if you walk up to the main drag you will see immediately to the right a cluster of smaller storefronts. The 3rd (if I remember correctly) storefront along serves some very good dishes(fish). You order at the counter.Be aware that it closes early, about 6 pm or so.The hotel itself has a good French/Belgium restaurant, higher priced but good value. The hotel offers an included breakfast. This is very basic but bear in mind this is a budget hotel and you paid a low price for your accommodation. One point that may be slightly annoying is located in the reception area there is someone trying to get you to go to a high end newer hotel for breakfast or lunch.I never went but I did ask whether this a Time Share thing. He replied no. but I still wonder. There is a nice area to relax by the pool, overlooking the lagoon. If you're travelling by car there are a few parking spots off the street on the hotel premises. There is lots of street parking.I would consider it very safe to park on the street if you couldn't get a parking spot.I used a TomTom GPS where the maps showed the hotel to be located at very different location maybe 25km or so away.

Small budget hotel in Zona Hotelera

This is a nice little hotel. Staff are very friendly and helpful. You have access to the beach to Dos Playas as the sister hotel. Lovely beach. The downside is that the WiFi works only in the lobby. It's clean and I didn't smell dampness as in previous reviews. If all you need is a clean bedroom and breakfast, this is what you pay for. If you are looking for luxury and extras than this is not for you. It's basic accommodation, you have within walking distance a laundry, supermarket and several small restaurants with Mexican food. The bus is within 2-3 minutes distance and run every minute literally.I stayed there for 2 weeks and was happy with the service overall.
