Our Opinion

A great charming hotel along the strip of Cancun. While the size of the resort isn't as comparable to the larger resorts found across the strip, the quality and experience that this resort offers shouldn't be underestimated. This is a perfect little gem for older travelers and couples wanting some peace and quiet. The staff along this resort is incredible. They make sure that you're getting the most out of your stay and try to respond to all of your requests in a timely and pleasant manner. Because of the size of this resort, it doesn't really get that busy, which is great if you've got an affinity for lounging by the pool. It's guaranteed that you'll always have a lounger available. There are plenty of activities around this area. Make sure that you rent a golf-cart, as you can probably venture the entire island for the day! While the resort is relatively quiet, there are party yachts that have a tendency to sail nearby, so there is a little bit of disruption during particular times on the island. However, it wouldn't take away from your experience (just make sure you that you refrain from having dinner along the beach at this time)!

wonderful staff!

The highlights of the Isla Mujeres Palace are the service, the small size of the hotel and the lovely accommodations and public areas. The room was beautiful with a comfy bed and pillows, jacuzzi, great balcony and espresso machine. Every day delicious chocolates are brought to the room as well. The personalized service is wonderful.Thank you to the staff – you are all incredible: Julian the head waiter took great care of us throughout the week but especially at the Romantic Dinner (yummy surf and turf) and the Chef’s Dinner (incredible dessert) with his ever-present smile, friendliness and he was so helpful and patient- he helped me with Spanish vocabulary! Adrian also served us at the two special dinners and was wonderful helpful during regular meals – he went out of his way to find me cookies! I loved speaking with Wilma – she always remembers what you need and was so interesting and personable! Rosa was very sweet- she encouraged me to speak with her in Spanish! Great waiters and bartenders - Arturo, Jacob, Pedro (mayan coffee- awesome), Francisco- breakfast (got me almond milk and my husband ice for iced coffee), Daniel (knew my husband needed ice, Ismael (made me the best frozen espresso at lobby bar) Dario, Edy, Johnny (yummy mango margarita), Gustavo- brought us water and cold drinks at the beach!Pilar and LouLou were very helpful explaining our credits and helping us book excursions. Deby was very nice and welcoming when we arrived and made check-in a breeze! Boris got me the names and contact info of the performers I liked -he chose great entertainers for the week. Christmas eve was wonderful- a delicious buffet, awesome desserts and great entertainment. Karol was very helpful and friendly the The dining room was fabulously decorated. (I also must mention the dining room had the most comfortable and stylish turquoise chairs!) My massage from Xotchil was heavenly! Housekeeping brought whatever we needed to the room and everyone was friendly and trustworthy. The outdoor couches and chairs were a nice place to relax overlooking the ocean. Always easy to get chairs at the pool and ocean. Lots of beach towels and easy to access. Guests were also very friendly and since the place is small you can easily meet people. New outdoor cevicheria was delicious and overlooking the water. Poolside pizza oven made yummy pizza, quesadillas, tacos and burgers. Many people we met return year after year to the resort – it is like a home away from home! The downside is only one restaurant and not a lot of choices for dinner. I heard the chef will make whatever you ask for, but we didn’t ask. Can't wait to go back!About Isla Mujeres: I recommend renting a golf chart to check out the island and places to eat, shop and sightsee. We ate lunch overlooking the Caribbean at Punta Sur, shopped for shells and shell mobiles along the road, went to the women’s beading cooperative and purchased lovely jewelry, loved the Nautibus- a glass bottom boat- at the Dolphin Discovery. (Next time we’ll swim with the dolphins- they were beautiful as were the seals and manatees), went to Garrafon for snorkeling (the rough water there was unususal), a sunset catamaran with Penny the owner of the restaurant The Joint- live music and yummy snacks and drinks, and beer tasting artisanal cerveza at the Isla Brewery. We had fabulous vacation on Isla Mujeres at the Isla Mujeres Palace!

Solid 3.5

I gave this review a 4 because of the nice people, but really it’s a solid 3.5I’ll start by saying this resort is beautiful. The staff are amazing and will do everything to please you. Special shout out to Karol, Martha, Rosa, Pilar, Augustin, Ismael, Iran, Julian, Boris, and the chef Dario who took extra special care of us. They are always around with a smile and work very hard to make everyone happy and feel special. The pool is beautiful and clean, and the beach was very pretty (tons of sea grass but well kept by the staff). We had an ocean view room which was a view over the pool to the ocean. Room has an in-room jacuzzi which was awesome and a small balcony as well. Depending on your room location, you may hear carts being rolled early in the morning. You can also hear voices (as well as other noises 😂) from nearby rooms through the vents which was a little odd. Didn’t bother us too much. The food is definitely a HIT OR MISS. We spent a week on the resort and by day 3, I was getting very tired of the Americanized food. Red flag to me when a four star resort in Mexico serves chicken fingers, pizza, and burgers. The quesadillas they served initially were bland and the conchinita pibil was served on a sandwich roll (should be a sin) On night one, my husband ordered the marinated fish filet and we were told it was mahi-mahi. Out comes salmon... we did not want to be rude and were very hungry so we took what we got. I had the flank steak which I was pleased with. The next night I had the meat trio which was absolutely delicious, but my husband ordered the raviolis which were so unbearably bland. On day 3 we ordered breakfast to the room, and had just about had it because the eggs were so cold! We then decided we’d venture out on the island for local cuisine and we were so glad we did! The flavors of authentic Mexican cuisine, and the people on the island were absolutely amazing and their culture truly shined. Look up Tonicho’s restaurant which is a quick 10 minute walk from the hotel! In the middle of our stay, I had mentioned in feedback that was requested by Palace Hotels that we’d like to see more authentic dishes which the resort definitely delivered on. The Mexican breakfast with the eggs and chorizo were tasty and we had a delicious Mahi mahi dish for lunch prepared by the head chef the next day: both exhibited fantastic Mexican flavors! Now on to the resort credits. You are allotted $1500 towards resort services/tours but are limited in how you choose to use them. Only $300 dollars can be used at the spa and you cannot use it towards deep tissue massages, which unfortunately for me, are really the only massages I like. We ended up getting the citrus massage, which while it was good, it’s just a shame I couldn’t use it for what I wanted. Props to Natividad as she did give a great massage. We used credits on the chef’s dinner as well which was good, a day trip to Garrafon Gate, as well as on a few bottles of wine. We used about 1000/1500 because the options for which we could use them were limited. Garrafon Gate is a resort park and was really their only decent snorkeling option which was disappointing. Unfortunately, the snorkeling was limited to a roped off area and was not impressive at all. If for anything, you should head to Garrafon to see Punta Sur for the beautiful views! Note: your admission to Garrafon from Palace is NON-VIP so you have to spend even more money for zip lining and for VIP benefits. There are so many things to do on the island, but there are not enough choices for activities for which you can use credits. Had we stayed at a different resort for less money, we would have booked different and far more exciting excursions more in line with what we wanted (ie...higher rated snorkeling trips etc). Plus everything they offer is overpriced and with the 16% service fee, you’re probably paying for it anyways. End of story: if all you want is to be catered to and enjoy a beautiful resort, Isla Mujeres palace would be a great place. For us, we wanted to enjoy Mexican culture more, and we found all of that off of our resort. As someone had mentioned earlier in another review, it really does feel like Florida and Texas were transplanted onto this resort, so you don’t get the culture immersion we were looking for. Most were much older than us (we’re a couple, 29/30 yo). Because you’re limited with choices for which to use your credits, you might end up spending more money off of the resort to get what you’re looking for if you want more culture and adventure. That being said, we probably won’t return. While the staff was ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL and the resort was beautiful, I would rather choose where to spend my money instead of it being funneled into a limited list of options of activities through the resort credits. I can’t say that the resort was the best match for our personalities.

Great service

We recieved extra help at the hotel as I got sick while there and Pedro the waiter at the Ceverichera restaurant and the pool concierge Edwardo went above and beyond. We still managed to consume all of their Rose wine by the third day and the manager Mark Dahle went to the store and purchased some for us. The service that we recieved from the staff including the inside waiters Julian and Wilma was top notch and their experience and friendliness shown through.

Vacation

Can not be missed and don’t forget to rent a golf cart and go around the island. This is paradise. Try to stair for sunset and the ferry ride is easy. Go to the north Beach it’s so fun to see the Yatchs and people partying.

Not For Us

This resort just wasn't a good fit for my husband and me. It felt like a Florida or Texas resort transplanted on a bay in Mexico--for us it was lacking any sense of the Mexican culture. We prefer hotels that reflect the country where you are staying. A beautiful beach is also important to us and the bay at this hotel was not that. The pool though was beautiful, clean and inviting. The food was OK, we found the breakfast buffet to be the best. There was a lack of healthy, inventive options that we like. We found the staff friendly and eager to attend to every need but not very chatty. We did enjoy the dock and gazebo and watching the sunset. Paddle boarding was a fun option. I think this resort is a good place for Americans who want to feel very catered to and for whom getting a sense of the Mexican culture is not a priority and a beach is also not a priority. Our most memorable times during the week were away from the resort--walking the cliffs at Punta Sur, Walking through La Gloria, drinks at the Na Balam bar. This review though is not to say the resort is a bad place or to complain but to give readers a sense of the resort's vibe so they can decide if it is for them or not--it was nor for us.
