Our Opinion

A great charming hotel along the strip of Cancun. While the size of the resort isn't as comparable to the larger resorts found across the strip, the quality and experience that this resort offers shouldn't be underestimated. This is a perfect little gem for older travelers and couples wanting some peace and quiet. The staff along this resort is incredible. They make sure that you're getting the most out of your stay and try to respond to all of your requests in a timely and pleasant manner. Because of the size of this resort, it doesn't really get that busy, which is great if you've got an affinity for lounging by the pool. It's guaranteed that you'll always have a lounger available. There are plenty of activities around this area. Make sure that you rent a golf-cart, as you can probably venture the entire island for the day! While the resort is relatively quiet, there are party yachts that have a tendency to sail nearby, so there is a little bit of disruption during particular times on the island. However, it wouldn't take away from your experience (just make sure you that you refrain from having dinner along the beach at this time)!

Nice but needs work.

Room was beautiful and clean, nicely done with marble floors. Balcony was roomy for two and had a great view. In-room bar was a treat. Our only room complaints were the shower door that leaked, causing a lake of water in the bath, vanity and even into the closet area every time we showered; and the jacuzzi which is meant for skinny short people. The jacuzzi was so painfully uncomfortable we quit five minutes in. I told the desk clerk about the shower and she said many rooms had that problem. The pool and beach areas are beautiful and very tranquil, great for relaxing; unless the party beaches on either neighboring side of the property are cranking the thumping techno-pop. The beach is just okay for swimming, but wear aqua socks as there are stones and seaweed to contend with.Poolside and beach drink/snack service was either incredibly bad or was reasonably good. It took them 45 minutes for an order of nachos without onions and they goofed the order anyway. The next time we asked for plain chips and they never came at all. Restaurant food was okay but the menu needs to change. The breakfast buffet is nothing special, breads and dinner rolls are dry and institutional tasting, and for our romantic dinner on the beach, the food tasted great but it was barely lukewarm, some was even cool. Staff throughout were extremely eager to please and polite, the grounds were beautifully kept and desk staff always were helpful. We were transferred to the Sun Palace for our last day and the food and service were so much better, but it was a noisy mega-resort and I missed the tranquility of the Isla Mujeres Palace. Do a better job with poolside/beach drink service and have a changing menu/better buffet and I'd go 5 stars.TIP: Do not go thru the time share (they call it "vacation club") presentation. It so totally sucked the joy out of our day and honked us off so bad we are not going back to any Palace. As soon as the lady at the activity desk asks your occupation, she is targeting you for the salesmen. We were talked to in increasing lengths by a woman (gathering info for the salesmen) and then three different men, and the third guy was supposedly there to do QC to make sure we weren't badgered, but he was the worst. Then as we finally made it clear we weren't buying, guy number two comes after us as we wait for the elevator and keeps trying.Other tips: Isla Mujeres is perfect for golf carts, and you can rent one downtown and park it at the Palace. But do your homework first. Make sure the steering is tight, make sure the lights work and insist on one with mirrors, otherwise it can be dangerous. Also, enjoy area restaurants, especially on the waterfront near the marina, as the seafood is great. Try Oscar's for pizza. Drive to the south end to see the natural area and walk the trails on the seaside cliffs. Gorgeous!

Still My Favourite in The Palace Family

Back to Isla Mujeres Palace after two years (Last stay Sep2014).The refurbishments are nearly completed (just some dock work to go) and the experience was as good as I last remembered.Upgrades since SEP2014 include, new RFID door locks (no more inserting of key cards), a new air conditioned main restaurant, Apple TV in the Concierge rooms, new outdoor furniture all around inc. loungers and chairs and a newly enclosed and air conditioned games room and bar.The staff were still fantastic and even remembered us by name from a previous visit. The food has received a bit of an upgrade and we found that we enjoyed it more on this visit, not that it was poor before, a noticeable improvement was evident. The Chef's dinner is still a highly recommended event.Unfortunately the beautiful motor yacht has been relocated to Moon Palace in Jamaica and replaced with a smaller launch but this is more than adequate.Due to the intimate nature of this special resort we always seem to make lasting friends with other couples during our stays here and this is something that we cherish.Special mention must be made of Arturo and Antonio who were exceptional, as always. If you are looking for a small, peaceful and intimate resort then Isla Mujeres Palace should be near the top of your short list.

Activity directors-Fermin & Jorge

These two gentlemen made activities so much fun. They were enthusiastic and energetic and knowledgeable. Each led a morning hour of stretching which was much like yoga. They also organized a game of water volleyball. They are exceptional staff.

best spend to date

dropping vacay data on already well informed travelers... this place is worth the money. The burn through rate of $550 a day was worth all the amenities, conveniences and local. Staff had it together from housekeeping to the bartenders. Check in was chilled towels and cardamom pina coladas . We had birthday parties for 2 members of our group and they provide the cake, a birthday song. We played pool volleyball, watched the Patriots win the super bowl on a 20 ft screen, paddled boarded, listen to live music, and danced all without leaving the resort. It takes 5 minutes to get from your room to anywhere on the resort, makes it all easier. The beach is small, clean with more then enough lounges for everyone. The pool is large with a swim up bar, with a pizza oven with made to order pies. They cooked to ordered breakfast for us each morning and had additional buffet items, we ate lunch by the pool and on the beach, but the lunch buffet had better options. The bartender are fairly quick getting the drinks out and made a quality cocktail. We will be going back another time

Lovely Boutique feel to this property

Our first visit to Isla Mujeres Palace. Awesome yacht delivery to/from the island. The property is fairly small with a nice sandy beach. There were a few stones on entry into the water. If you enter the water near the pier you can avoid the stones. The beach service was very attentive, without being annoying. Beach toys available, kayaks, paddle boats etc. You cannot walk along the beach very far as the other restaurants etc have the way blocked. We did upgrade to a concierge room, which got us a great ocean view. Worth it, if you love the ocean. The chef's dinner was really good, different from those at Sun Palace because you are in a much smaller group. Food and presentation were excellent. For all the other meals, some very good, some okay. The best advice is to ask if you want something not on the menu, especially at breakfast. American breakfast was always available. We did the glass bottom boat trip to the reef, which was a good outing. It left from Dolphin discovery, which is an amazing place. Well worth a visit. We took a taxi there and walked back. Would be a long walk, if it was really hot out.The spa is small and doesn't have the full list of treatments available at the other Palaces. However the services they do were very good. I had both mani/pedi and a facial. Thank you both Sarahi and Natividad.Lastly, just a huge thank you to the check out staff (Dec 17th, 2016) as our request to pay part cash (pesos) and credit card turned into a difficult situation when my husband couldn't remember his PIN. It was all resolved, but I thank you for your patience.
