Our Opinion

A great charming hotel along the strip of Cancun. While the size of the resort isn't as comparable to the larger resorts found across the strip, the quality and experience that this resort offers shouldn't be underestimated. This is a perfect little gem for older travelers and couples wanting some peace and quiet. The staff along this resort is incredible. They make sure that you're getting the most out of your stay and try to respond to all of your requests in a timely and pleasant manner. Because of the size of this resort, it doesn't really get that busy, which is great if you've got an affinity for lounging by the pool. It's guaranteed that you'll always have a lounger available. There are plenty of activities around this area. Make sure that you rent a golf-cart, as you can probably venture the entire island for the day! While the resort is relatively quiet, there are party yachts that have a tendency to sail nearby, so there is a little bit of disruption during particular times on the island. However, it wouldn't take away from your experience (just make sure you that you refrain from having dinner along the beach at this time)!

The best service ever

This is the smallest hotel in the Palace group, which has a number of hotels in and near Cancun. It has only 62 rooms, and when we visited the hotel was only half full, so the guests and staff got to know each other. The staff, most of whom speak good English, enjoy their jobs, and this shows in the level of service they provide. We happened to mention to the head waiter, Omar, that in another Palace hotel last year we enjoyed the chiles rellenos en nogada (a traditional Mexican dish). We asked if this was on the menu in I.M. He said no, but the chef Armando would be happy to prepare them for us the next evening. Sure enough, we walked into the (one) restaurant, and everyone knew that we were having a special meal. It was delicious. The next night we went to the "chef's dinner" where Armando personally explained the menu and prepared our meal as we watched. We took the opportunity to thank him personally and asked about his cooking experience - he said he had not gone to culinary school, but had apprenticed in many kitchens, starting at the age of 18. We asked if he had other, traditional recipes that he liked to prepare, and he then offered us made-to-order dinners for two other evenings. How delightful to be so pampered! The quality of the food overall was high. Breakfast is buffet style, supplemented by a nice variety of a la carte options, all part of the all-inclusive package. Lunch is buffet style, and dinner is a la carte, with a standard menu plus a rotating menu of specials. The servers in the restaurant, on the beach and around the pool are invariably attentive and friendly - they act like helpful hosts, rather then servile employees. We especially enjoyed talking with Julian and Manuel, and when Omar was not working Sergio took his place and made sure we were well looked after. There is a small spa on the premises, and we took advantage of the back massages, manicures and pedicures that were included in our vacation package. One masseuse, Esmeralda, stood out. The others were very pleasant, but one got the feeling that because they were all required to perform all of the services (rather than specializing in massage, or beauty treatments, or....) the quality of the massages especially was hit-or-miss.The hotel is so small that ONE bellboy handles everything, and we want to congratulate Ulrich for his unfailing patience and helpfulness. He was always at his post, happy to do whatever would be of service, and to share his knowledge of transportation (taxis are cheap, and many people rent golf carts to tour the island independently). We were delighted when Karol, whom we met at the special dinner and who was around in the evenings to make sure guests had what they needed, offered to open her office at 10 PM on our last evening so that we could print out our boarding passes for our return trip. We had previously asked at reception and were told that the reception computers were not linked to the internet. About 10 years ago we became members of the Palace group, and our level of membership entitles us to a room with a nice view and premium toiletries. We vacation in one of these hotels once a year, in January. Like most other vacation hotels, Palace tries to sell memberships, or membership upgrades, to every guest. The one area where Palace's service falls down is in the area of sales. Every year we are encouraged to attend a 90-minute presentation which is called an "update" to let us know what is going on with the group, but which actually, in most cases, turns into a hard sell that is often difficult to walk away from. In the case of Isla Mujeres, the presentation is actually given in Cancun, a boat ride away. Various premiums are offered - ours would have been the option to spend our last night of vacation in the group's luxury hotel, nearer the airport. But because we have had such bad experiences with these presentations in the past (one year, we said "no" to four different people, in turn, with each becoming more and more aggressive) we said we would rather not go, and gave our reason. The Guest Services representative we talked to at first would not take "no" for an answer, and every time I walked past her (necessary, because she sat at the entrance to the restaurant) she asked again. I understand that this is her job, and that she gets paid for each couple she sends, but the nagging became unpleasant. We avoided guest services, avoiding scheduling our massages, until her day off. On that day another Guest Services representative, Marleni, who had overheard our objections, sympathized, and helped us with what we needed with no further mention of the hated presentation.

Best of the best staff

My wife and I were at the palace from Jan 2 till the 8th.when we first arrived we were greeted by the staff with a cool cloth and a drink, immediately they made us feel as if we have been there a thousand times, almost as if we were home. The smiles, consideration, and the attention to detail that they pay to you is hands down the most genuine and heartfelt feelings they bring to you! It's as if you are family!! Each day we would come down to the lobby, restaraunt,or bar and were greeted with sincerity, and respect, everyone on staff there is hands down the best I've dealt with, from the front desk, the bar, therestaraunt, the pool,to housekeeping.we are people persons we watch all the time,we never saw any staff member not in a good mood, even when my wife witnessed a guest being disrespectful to a staff member, employees were always busy cleaning or something. David,Anai, vanessa, manuel,Alejandro, and the rest of the staff made our trip the most enjoyable. We have been to other resorts while we were there, and hands down when we come back January 2018 the palace is where will stay. As we enjoyed our room, the view, the beach, the lounging areas, the activities and not to mention the relaxation we had there! If I were to have to say one improvement for me would be the food, not that it was bad cause we are there twice a day! But then again I personally am very picky because I love to cook. But overall if you get a chance to go to the island I highly recommend staying here at The Palace.Thank you,The Rocha's

First holiday in 3 yrs

We loved Isla Mujeres for it being small and quiet. It was the first place I was able to truly relax and feel safe with having food allergies. It was also the first place I have come back from and did not get ill. the staff were amazing in how the handled my food allergies and in my opinion went above and beyond in making sure my food was safe. I spoke with Eric the Head Chef and he and the staff would go through the buffet with me regularly with what I could eat and not eat. Any hesitation they had on possible cross-contamination, they offered to make me a dish/meal in the kitchen using separate pots and pans. It was so nice to have my allergies be taken seriously and to feel safe that they cared. I have to say how amazing Manuel, Uriel, Wilma, Juan and Rosa were in being our servers and hostess. Often going the extra mile. Super friendly and helpful. As for Jorge, Juan on the beach bringing drinks while we were on the beach. They were so friendly and nice with good humour. Evandro, the entertainment coordinator- my husband and I thoroughly enjoyed his passion and enthusiasm for what he did. He had us out stretching, salsa dancing and singing karaoke. Anai at the front desk and Natividad in the spa were also very wonderful. We were told about the Sun Palace as being another Palace resort for us check out the night before we left to be closer to the airport. we thought it could be a good idea as we had a long travel day. So we thought to check it out and shorten our travels. Well regret- we had a 90-minute presentation at the Beach Palace, and basically started out ok and then it felt like pressure sales to finally bullying. We didn't purchase any holiday weeks, we left and they paid for us to go by taxi to Sun Palace. Well, that was a mistake! We were given a room on the first floor that faced the main road and was small and we felt we were given a poor room since we didn't "buy". we asked for another room, it was more acceptable. But we regretted giving up a peaceful last day at Isla Mujeres. The food and service did not match what we had just come from. We would go back to Isla Mujeres Palace again, we would NOT take them up on their offer to go to a Palace resort on the mainland NOR go through the 90 min "presentation".

The 'DREAM' Palace is the Best of the Best because the Magnificent STAFF make it so!

My wife Iwona & I enjoyed our 1st trip (2014) so much we decided to return for round 2 (2016). Considering that in all my years of travelling I had never visited the same resort twice you can rest assured that 'The Isla Mujeres Palace' is a very special place.........The resort is quaint & well suited to the relaxed crowd. Pool, Beach (except for the rocks), Food & service are all excellent. Rooms are exquisite view or no view, especially the wet bar, well stocked mini fridge, Jacuzzi & 24 hour room service. The guests are encouraged to participate in activities and if you are open minded you can meet & enjoy the company of people from around the globe, The French Connection = Michel (had to be a goalie) & Jeanett (cute, quiet & clam), The All British Father Daughter Duo of Seamus (his stories even topped mine) & Sinead (lovely girl), The Tower of London Bridge headed by Frank (my IT protégé) & Gemma (my nieces clone), The God Bless America team of Phil (the helping hand) & Jackie (determined to never give up). With only 80 rooms you feel as though you are instantly among family & friends.......something I really enjoy. Starting with the front desk Karol & David, our lunch waiter Alejandro, Irving from the Pool Bar, Eddy from the Main Bar, Hector & Sharanye at Breakfast, Krystian & Ismail the happy twins at dinner (never sure which one is which after a few drinks!), Edwin the smallest big man I ever met (always smiling) & never to be forgotten the Fabulous Beach Boys......Gorge & Adrian (I was never without a drink or anything for that matter) while they were on watch. Our evening out with Adrian for the Santa Maria from Guadalupe Celebration with the local folk was my absolute favorite part of the trip (see video)! The people who make or break any vacation are the staff & at Isla Mujeres Palace they work diligently together to provide that feeling of warmth & welcome no matter what the situation or time of day. The planning stages for Round 3 are already in the works.........can’t wait to return!!!!

Great in every way except the buffet

We love coming here. We last came in December 2016. We love the warm staff, Antonio, Pilar, LuLu (Lourdes), Roxanne, Carlos, David, Karol, Sarahi, Marta, and Anahi. They are so sweet to us. They are all very personable at the front of the resort. The rooms are nice but not huge, but it is a small resort with 55 rooms, Our room did face the ocean and it was beautiful. I like going to Isla Mujeres because it's so calm and no kids. You can sleep on the beach, or in your chair by the pool. The music by the pool is new - it was not like that in 2015 and I didn't like it. It was a lot of bass and very loud. But I bet if enough people say they don't like it, they will turn it down or off. They are trying very hard with their activities to give everyone a good experience. With such a small hotel with couples only, the loud music did seem out of place. The food was MUCH better than last year. Last year was all about presentation, not taste. This year, the Chef was outstanding and clearly knows how to cook. We went to a Chef's dinner and it was excellent. The restaurant had good choices and it was a huge upgrade from 2015. However, the only mystery to me was the buffet and I wonder if someone else - not the chef - cooks the buffet because it is SO different from the main items. We had Italian night and I swear, none of the food at the buffet had any taste at all. It was very bland. This is a recurring theme, with other Special Food nights, with the exception of Mexican night. Chef Erik was outstanding in every other way, so it is mysterious. In particular, the "salad bar" which I put in quotes because either there is something lost in translation, or there is some trendy thing I don't know about. The "salad bar" consisted of: 1 big vase of lettuce leaves (standing up) nothing cut up, just whole leaves, 1 large bowl of grilled baby corn (with pieces of burned, old, blackened grill bits attached to each baby corn), 1 big bowl of grilled eggplant (with grill bits), 1 large bowl of grilled cactus and 1 big bowl of heart of palm. The salad dressings were: Tamarind and different jars of salsa. This salad bar seems to be a holdover from last years Chef - but Yikes! It wasn't for me and I never saw anyone eating the salad. The soups and ice cream are outstanding. They make their own and you can tell because the soups are very flavorful and the ice cream is to die for.The bar staff, Alejandro, Eddy, Ismael were excellent. The only issue with the inside bar is that the temperature in there was FREEZING! I don't know why it's so cold. I had asked someone to raise the temperature and it was changed for a short amount of time, but then changed back. No reason was given, except clearly it is management's desire that it be kept so cold that we need to wear coats to be in there. The outside bar and Snack Shack are great and the food is excellent. I had a quesadilla and it was hands down, the best one I've ever had. So tasty and delicious. I didn't try it but heard the pizza was outstanding with a thin crust. The restaurant staff is amazing and so attentive. Pedro, Christian, Omar, Antonio, Rosa, Paula, Wilma, Sharanye, Uriel, Juan, Jorge, Adrian, Hector, Manual and Julian were very good at their jobs and very nice as well. Our room was cleaned with care no matter what time of day we left it. The maids, Reyna, Luciana, Elida, Carlos and Julio were excellent. Certain nights they had activities like, Magic Night, S'mores Night, dance lessons, live music either in the restaurant or outdoors, Mexican Dancers, etc. Those were fun. It was nice to have some entertainment after dinner. There are party boats and our first time at Isla Mujeres it was unexpected and annoying because the parties at these places can last until 4 a.m. if there is a 'special' event. This year I brought ear plugs and that made all of the difference. It's not Isla Mujeres Palace's fault that these places that are on either side of them are loud or noisy and I don't think they can do anything about them. I suggest everyone bring a pair of ear plugs with them to mitigate those nights. Overall we did enjoy our week here and will be back.
