Our Opinion

The Krystal Grand Punta Cancun has great potential as a resort in Cancun. It's located on the tip of the island, making it a prime location for shopping, restaurants and bars. The downtown area is also a few minutes taxi ride away. The beach is also spectacular in this area. It's constantly being maintained by staff, making the lounge area immaculate and free of seaweed. OK food choices found here. There is a great variety to choose from and are well prepared. It does take a while to be served however, especially when during the peak lunch hour. There is a bit of noise during the evening. However, it's not terribly distracting and it does not necessarily take away from the experience of your stay.

Nothing special

We stayed one night in Cancun during our Mexico trip. Krystal hotel offered a room for a good price via Booking.comThe hotel was nothing special. It had a nice location by the beach at the Hotel Zone. But the surrounding restaurants was nothing more than Domonis, McDonalds and Hooters. Of course many others also but they all were in the same tourist trap concept. So we decided to eat at the hotel instead. They didn't have a menue to choose dishes from so they offered us their all inclusive buffet. It did not compare to the real mexican food you can buy in local restaurants. The view from our hotel room was a construction site. We were hoping for a better ocean view. All the staff was very friendly and helpful.

Average stay

Stayed for one night. Room was in poor condition. Patio door wasn't air tight so I kept hearing a wind noise all the time. Curtains are dates with holes everywhere and weird spray paint on it (see picture). A/C barely works so room is always warm and humid.Breakfast buffet is average. On the positive side the location is great and the views are amazing. Huge beach right in front.

It's all about the Beach-great stay

I stayed at this exact location thirty years ago when it was the Hyatt Regency- A lot has changed-but the beach here is fantastic! There is a breakwater which protects the long Western side- what sunsets! Our Club room on the 12th floor had full ocean view and came with breakfast and nightly snacks. The rooms are not fancy which is good with all the sand that gets tracked in- The bathroom was very nice, all upgraded and modern. They do LOTS of weddings here, one night there were 3 at once- and only one night had loud music on the beach til 2 am. We ate dinner out each night but had lunch and room service daily which was very good. Loved the location as it was on the "elbow" of the hotel zone, quick walk to the club area and we rode the bus a lot, very easy to navigate. We would totally stay here again!

Our best stay in Cancun yet!!!

We have been coming to Cancun for 13 years on extended vacations ranging from 2-4 weeks at a time, yet this time will definitely go on the books as being the best to date! The staff at this hotel are so enjoyable to interact with on a daily basis! (For the full review, read on. For the cliff notes version scroll down)From the bellhop Guadalupe, who always greeted us with a smile and warmly invited us, to our pool concierge Hervik, who has become like family, always making sure we were happy and well taken care of, to our personal concierge Fernando, who provided us with a room with a beautiful view and extra little perks throughout our stay, to our pool waitstaff Patsy and Leo and lobby bartender Yolanda, who always provided timely service with a smile and always engaged us in friendly conversations even after they were done working, to the activities staff and managers, these employees are driven by a real desire to make your stay truly enjoyable! This hotel is positioned on one of the most beautiful beaches in all of Cancun. In fact, from we our room we could watch the ferries and sailboats cross from Cancun over to Isla Mujeres on a regular basis. The hotel is situated within a 5 minute walk of a corporate Starbucks, the new Selecto, Coco Bongo, Hard Rock Cafe, and many other restaurants, shops, and entertainment venues. While we do not do all inclusive, we have spent more time than usual in the resort complex this time due to the excellent food and entertainment options provided. We have enjoyed the live traditional music in the lobby areas on Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday evenings. The interior design of the building lends itself to acoustics that rival the most magnificent symphony halls and opera houses! The activities in the outdoor courtyards are designed for all ages, young and young at heart alike. To address one issue: the reason every one loves coming to Cancun is the amazing turquoise waters. It is salt water. It is extremely corrosive. The hotel is extremely clean and well maintained! No matter which hotel you stay in, no matter how much money you pay, salt water corrosion will bring certain odors and do damage to structures and paint. We have stayed at numerous 4 and 5 star hotels in Cancun and this is an issue regardless of where you stay. This hotel employs several maintenance personnel who daily address the issues created by salt water and are pleasant to interact with. The cliff notes version:We have never before, whether in Mexico or the United States, had a hotel and its employees work so hard to make our stay enjoyable. This was our best stay ever! We can't wait to come back!

I won't recommend this resort

Location - very good. Right at the beach. Only 5 minute walk to Forum by the Sea with lots of shops and bars. Frequent and cheap buses to downtown / hotel zone, 105 peso one way (or USD1)Room - clean and neat with spectacular view. Good wifi connection and air conditioningService & friendliness - 50/50. Staff at front desk & the restaurants are good. But people at the bar and entrance pretended they didn't see you. I don't expect this kind of service in a resort.Food - this is the worst part. I have to pay CDN780 for the all-inclusive portion to accompany my husband for his 4-day/3-night business conference. I wish I had the option to opt out. Eat elsewhere if you can. And if not, don't order western food. We've tried the Restaurant O & The Grill. It's consistently disappointing. We've ordered steak, grilled salmon, Caesar salad etc. They had the look but no flavor at all. The taste was completely off. Mexican food is better.I've been to Cancun many times and stayed in different resorts. I won't recommend this one unless you don't care about food.
