Our Opinion

The Krystal Grand Punta Cancun has great potential as a resort in Cancun. It's located on the tip of the island, making it a prime location for shopping, restaurants and bars. The downtown area is also a few minutes taxi ride away. The beach is also spectacular in this area. It's constantly being maintained by staff, making the lounge area immaculate and free of seaweed. OK food choices found here. There is a great variety to choose from and are well prepared. It does take a while to be served however, especially when during the peak lunch hour. There is a bit of noise during the evening. However, it's not terribly distracting and it does not necessarily take away from the experience of your stay.

Amazing views and the beach

We had a great experience at Krystal Grand Punta Cancun, we would definitely go back. The resort is not very big which we liked. It has a beautiful beach which is very well kept as well as the hotel's surroundings. The views everywhere are amazing, especially at the restaurant where we had the breakfast and The Grill where we ate most of our lunches/dinners. Again I must say that the beach and the infinity pool are the highlights of the resort, made me never want to leave the place. The hotel definitely wasn't full so there was lots of room for us wherever we went, the beach wasn't overcrowded which was excellent. The room was good, I just didn't like the fact that our room was connected to the room next two us with double doors. It didn't bother me too much because we only used the room to sleep overnight. From 8am until 8pm we were at the beach and the pools. We were on the fifth floor with the city view, which was really ocean view but from the other side. The view was excellent. The only drawback was that our room was above the restaurant, and the a/c compressors which were on top of the restaurant roof were really loud. So we really couldn’t enjoy our balcony at all, but no big loss really, like I said we were outside most of the day/night.The service at the hotel was great, we had a waiter at the beach named Isidro Mendoza and he was just a great help, always looking out for us and making sure that we were having a good time. This guy always had a sincere smile on his face and he definitely made our days at the beach top notch. There was one pushy waiter who tried to impress us I guess, by preparing us “special” mystery dinners but we just wanted him to stop as we wanted to choose what we wanted to eat ourselves. It turned out those “special” dinners were just regular items from the menu, we figured this out immediately. He was definitely looking for his best interest, our tips. One day he told us he will prepare us something “special” again for dinner, but we told him we were going to book the Japanese restaurant that night and we wouldn’t be coming to the restaurant where he works. He was like “um, I think the Japanese restaurant is closed tonight, let me check”, so he went somewhere for like 2 minutes, came back and said the Japanese restaurant is definitely closed that night, his boss just told him. After that lunch we went to the help desk and asked them if the Japanese restaurant is in fact closed, they said it isn’t and they were accepting reservations for dinner. I mean talk about sneaky, I won’t name this guy but if he’s reading this I hope he learns something. Also, if you’re going to this hotel and a waiter starts promising you “special” dinners, be careful! I’m not the type that feuds with the hotel staff so I just chose to ignore him for the rest of the trip.I’m not picky about food so in my opinion the selection was great and most things tasted excellent. People who like big buffets might be disappointed. The hotel is close to a big supermarket, Selecto Chedraui Cancún Zona Hotelera, if you run out of sunscreen or if you need anything else, go here as the prices will be much cheaper than the hotel store. I’m talking about saving as much as 80%, so take a walk, don’t be shy and/or lazy. The place is also great for gifts and alcohol as well. The tequila I bought there was like 3 times cheaper than the airport prices. I bought some habanero sauce which cost me 14 pesos at the store, same bottle of the same sauce cost 99 pesos at the airport!

Great location with beautiful beach

Hotel is located at the tip or corner of the caye zona hotelera. Great location as it is right next to Coco Bongo and other clubs, restaurants and shops (about 7 mins walk). Hotel is right on the beach with white sand and beautiful clear water of the Caribbean. You just walk out pass the pool and you are on the beach. There are beach beds with shade and they are free to use. You can order food and drinks right from those beds. We stayed here during the hurricane season (oct. 2017) but hardly any rain apart from one night when hurricane Nate passed by. The water was warm and clear. Only the last day of our stay seaweed appeared in the water, probably due to the storm. There are 2 pools on the hotel grounds, they looked nice but I prefer the sea, so didn't use them. When we arrive, we were greeted with a sweet drink and were given all important information. Checking went fast, receptionists were very nice and friendly. We had room on the seventh floor and facing the sea. Beautiful view. Rooms was clean, cleaned every day. We left little tip for the cleaners. Beds were very comfortable. We had a great time there, paid for breakfast which was rich and with many options. I loved the fried banana but for some reason it was served only one day. Service was friendly. All in all, we had a GREAT stay there and would come back.

Good but not great

Rooms are comfortable. View great. The beach restaurant marginal. The Starbucks inside the lobby has fantastic ice creams. Check your final itemized bill carefully. They were supposed to not charge me the 16% VAT tax but did anyways. The hot water handle on the sink in our bathroom leaked. Called about it. They did nothing. Ok but not great.

Enjoyable stay for me and my family

After reading mixed reviews about Krystal Grand I really didn't know what to expect, but I must say my family and I had a great stay here while in Cancun. The front desk supervisor, Fernando, took care of us upon check in to check out. He and the concierge also sent a bottle of sparkling wine and a cake to our room for my daughters birthday. Throughout our stay while at the grill Jorge kept a drink in front of us, Mango Tango's every 10-15 minutes...we rarely had to ask. The first few times we went to the grill (which was the best spot for us) my daughter ordered french fries, for some reason she really enjoyed them...without asking Jorge would order her fries every time we had a drink and sat by the pool...nothing big, but to me it's the small things that make great service, the little details. Breakfast was good, dinner was as well, we enjoyed the Japanese hibachi dinner the most..I have no complaints about the food. However, I think there could've been more activities to do at the resort. Erik was in charge of the beach and pool activities, which my two sons and daughter participated in, they thought he was great. What my wife and I were also looking for were nightly activities like shows, games etc, but since the resort was so close to the night life area I'm sure they may have expected you to enjoy yourself out there. One thing I do want to point out is the $150 resort credit being a little misleading, but I think this had more to do with the package from vacation express than with the resort. Me, my wife and daughter used some of the credit towards a massage, which was one of the best massages I've ever had, but we were under the assumption that most if not all of the credit could be applied, however only a certain dollar amount could be used...as I said, it was misleading.Others have complained about the lobby being hot, bad food or better yet, the premium options not being part of all inclusive. To me those reviewers are being picky..you're in Mexico; if you want AC, go to your room..if you want lobster or steak, pay for it. Where are you going to find all you can eat lobster and steak?Overall, it was the perfect vacation for my family we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and have nothing but good things to say about the resort and it's staff.

So Disapointed!!! Def not a 4 star hotel!! STAY AWAY!!

On the positive note, the location of the Krystal Grand is very convenient to the strip. You can walk to clubs and stores which I liked. The pool area and infinity pool is also nice, however the service, food and rooms was bad. This is not a 4 star property! The food was terrible for the most part. I tried all the restaurants on property and it was all bad. FYI most seafood is not all inclusive. If you want lobster or shrimp, that’s an additional charge. In the restaurants, the service was good. My waiter like Jose at The grill was so nice. For breakfast, I tried to order an omelet at the omelet station however the female chef walked away while I was ordering the omelet. My sister went to order, and the two female chefs disregarded her because they were having a conversation. My sister had to ask if they can make her omelet meanwhile she was the only guest at the omelet station at the time. Most of the staff are not accommodating or friendly at all unless you tip them first. I don’t mind tipping but I’m not tipping you to do your job. I’m tipping you for good service as it should be. Also they are not consistent with policies. One staff tells you one thing another staff tells you another. Instead of double checking with their coworker to verify what the guests says or finding a way to accommodate you, they try to reword the statement so they can be right. I was told room service drinks are complimentary but not food. When we called for orange juice in our room, they told us there was a service fee. We went downstairs to speak to the front desk agent to verify this and get a small pitcher of orange juice. The front desk apologized and told us there is no fee. When I called room service for another pitcher, they advised us about the service fee again. I informed the front desk agent said, and she got little aggressive insisted on the fee. I told her to please speak and confirm with the front desk agent. The front desk agent apologized again and sent us the orange juice free of charge. As a person that works in the hospitality business, the operator's attitude towards a guest is a NO NO! You don’t debate with the guest without speaking with the agent first. You try to find a solution and accommodate them I had the similar issue with my room. I was not happy with my room. I don’t like tubs on hotel unless it a Jacuzzi tub. The bathroom curtains are too short for the tub. My outlet by the sink was not working. We tried resetting it but nothing worked. Since I had a very early excursion to Xplor Park (Excellent Park) we waited to comeback to ask to switch rooms. We came back and I advise the issues with my room and politely asked to change rooms. The receptionist at the time, was hesitant to change me to another room (same category) and insisted in sending an engineer to fix the outlet. The hotel was empty since it was low season. I had to be firm and tell her we are unhappy to please change us to another room. The second room was a little better than the first room. The TV broke and it was replaced by a 25 or 30 inch TV. I had the same issue when reserving dinner at check in. I also tried to make a reservation at one of the restaurants but she insisted that restaurants must be made by the concierge who works from 11am-3pm. I asked for a solution since check in was at 3pm. How can I reserve my restaurants if the person is gone at 3pm, but check in is at 3pm? Then the front desk agent made the reservation for us. I can understand if the front desk was full at the time but it was empty. I felt like I was begging for some type of service, when I am PAYING for my stay. The best service was from bellmen. They were curiosity, friendly and so accommodating. Thanks guys. Overall, I am very disappointed in my stay especially since my career is in the hospitality industry (sales dept). There are many ways to find solutions and accommodate your guests. In low season, service should be excellent. Will never go back unless the brand changes. I will also advise my friends and family the same. STAY AWAY guys!!
