Our Opinion

A suitable budget-friendly resort for those who are looking for a quick stay in Cancun. The resort is all-inclusive optional, so guests have the option to simply use the resort as a place to stay. The grounds are adequately maintained. There are plenty of options with regards to liquor items. This is a very quiet and low-key type of resort. It is definitely more suited for those who are wanting a modest stay and are touring around Cancun for a majority of their stay.

Worst Travel Experience. Couldn't leave fast enough

Do not stay here! This hotel should be for broke college students on spring break only. Front desk staff rude, bell hop non existent, no working elevators, no a/c in lobby, no a/c in room, LOUD construction noise next door, crazy rule about not being able to bring ANY food or drinks in (can't even bring back restaurant leftovers from across the street, I felt like a prisoner) window in shower wouldn't close so people and construction crew next door could see in, charged higher price for room service than menu depicted. Was suppose to stay there a week, but packed up after one night and went to a much better resort, LIVE Aqua, which is fabulous. Rooms filthy dirty to boot. No one should be this stressed on vacation. Stay away!

Most ambivalent experience

summary: There ist no hotel of which we ever had such an ambivalent opinion. If you are paying for a standard room or better and are lucky to get a nice (renovated) room you will have a great time (and as long as you are not looking too close on little details like stains even in master suites). If you are planning to book a basic room, you are a little picky, looking closely at things or anything unplanned happens, definitely keep your hands off that hotel! It will leave you disappointed. In detail: If you pay for a standard room or better and are lucky to get a nice, renovated room and as long as nothing unplanned happens and you are willing to ignore some details like stains even in suites you will have a great time. Because all the staff ist absolutely kind, beach is great, food is really good, breakfast is great, drinks are fine and so on. But don't even consider taking a basic room. There are 160 of which 10 are renovated (information provided by hotel). So it's like gambling to get one looking like those on the website. The other 150 are the opposite of what you would like to live in during a sunny vacation. The one we were stuck in during our first night was dirty (stains everywhere, spots of mildew on the curtains, dirt all around the toilet and in most corners, damaged shower splashing everywhere, an absolutely broken safe, really dull furniture, view into backyard...) Everything was just muuuch to old and felt like it should have been exchanged, repaired or painted years ago. They couldn't help us at that evening of arrival because they had no rooms left which was absolutely okay for us. The reception handled it well an friendly. On the next day we upgraded to a master suite at our own expenses because there were not much options. Only option was a standard room with view on the huge construction site of a new hotel next to the nyx. What really disappointed us is the following. As soon as you have serious problems and need to talk to the "guest experience management" you will be let alone and feel like they don't care about you even a little bit. In our case I had an accident on the beach volleyball court playing beach volleyball with other hotel guests organized by the hotel animation staff (they were really kind as well). I jumped to reach the ball and fell on a really solid part of the beach (they steadied the field at the steep side of the beach so it doesn't sag away as i had to get to know the hard way) and unfortunately I deeply cut my foot on something (shell/stone/shard I don't know) and also got a lot of scratches - if anybody needs evidence, let me know your Mail, I will send you pictures, this is not about whining ;-) We needed to go to the hospital, it got glued, I got antibiotics, a new tetanus vaccination and so on. Bad luck was we booked a 3-day-trip to Merida starting 4 days after the accident for snorkeling and hiking which we had to cancel and were forced to stay at the NYX for three additional nights. When we told the so-called guest experience manager what has happened and that we need to stay longer she did nothing else than asking the sales team via phone which rooms were left and how much they are. She didn't even try to help us a little bit or showed any accommodation. We didn't even ask for free nights or whatever. But because I hurt myself during their program I would have expected a sincere and honest sorry, a little redemption perhaps, like a free dinner or something like that. In my opinion a good management would have offered us some special prices, because (as we also told her) we have no clue yet whether we will get our money back from the cancelled tour (about 750 US$). The prices she told us were higher then those we could book ourselves via internet and what really upset me was that she told us, that she doesn't care it happened during their entertainment-program. Or in her words, it is an accident and could have happened on the sidewalk as well because the volleyball-field is kind of public (even if the deckchairs are right next to it, their hotel-banner is standing next to the field and only they use it for animation). Might be correct by law or ownership but the arrogant and cold way in which she told us really made me sad and left me shocked because the whole other staff was so kind and warm-hearted. Final annotations: We are not picky or sensitive - not at all. Even the master suite had stains, small part of wet wall, a crack in the sink and some things like that which we couldn't care less about. We met a couple which had a wet room and needed to empty a beeping machine reducing humidity in their room several times a night. The elevator didn't work a few times (wouldn't have noticed it if i didn't hurt my foot but is a drawback for people needing it). Nothing of the listed would make me give a bad rating. Conclusion: On the one hand the service staff earned 5 stars! Reception, drinks, food were great. The waiters Tino and Olivia made our days and were so kind and diligent they really made you feel comfortable and welcome. The master suite was good with a great view. On the other side the management was absolutely disappointing not even worth 1 star. They could have helped us so much to feel a little better and make the best of our vacation despite my injury but failed completely so we had to handle the situation and booking on our own. Basic rooms are a pure rip-off. Standard rooms or better are okay but you need a little luck as well.

Our Cancun Vaca

My husband and I and our two year old daughter spent six days in Cancun at the Nyx hotel... It was a wonderful experience... The service at the hotel is five stars; everyone goes above & beyond. The food is absolutely delicious and I am definitely missing the wonderful service of some of the gentleman that were working Joel, Miseal, Faustino, Edoardo, Uvardo (super hard working, sweet and humble) and the drinks by the pool were perfect with Didier! I will definitely stay there again. However, our fan did not work properly and our shower head dripped all day and all night... Other than that I think our stay couldn't have been any better. My only one suggestion for the Nyx Hotel... Would to have a more kid-friendly menu for lunch and dinner.Thank you NYX hotel for wonderful week!

Relax

I don't understand the negative reviews here, everything in this hotel is awesome for the price. We got All inclusive and stayed 5 nights. All the food was fabulous, it was a different cuisine from different nations every nights. You get to eat in an outdoor patio style restaurant with a magnificent view. The beach is only steps away from hotel. You get all the drinks you want including alcohol. The service is excellent. All the employees are very polite and helpful. The rooms have been renovated and are very nice, the place is getting updated it's great. You will enjoy staying here if you can't go a day without Starbucks lol. The Islas mall is literally .6 miles away or 7 min walk. It's beautiful and large. You will like it here.

NICE VISIT

Myself and my Wife have been Vacation Club owners since the mid 2000's. We stayed for 7 days earlier this month. Upon arrival we were greeted by Nadia, the Hotel Vacation Club Director. We discussed our accommodations for the week and all inclusive pricing for members. She was fantastic, well organized and truly happy to see us. We received our room key and was provided a beautiful ocean front room (rm-553) atop of tower 5, the view was spectacular. NYX has done a great job over the last 5 years remodelling and modernizing the accommodations. The service staff, Olivia (Beach Front service), Eduardo, Eddy (Morning Buffet / Deck Restaurant service) were terrific and very helpful. Our Cleaning Lady (Mercedes) has been there for years and is a wonderful person also and does a beautiful job maintaining our room during our stay. The property has added a new restaurant named "Chianti", (Formerly Kelly's Sports Bar from many years ago). This restaurant "Chianti" serves fine Italian cuisine, we (my wife and I) dinned there one evening (it was delicious) our waiters, Victor and Carlos were great! We were approached by Hector the restaurant manager to inquire on how our dining experience was going as well as the hostess Hzel (very professional and polite). We responded with a big smile telling them the food and the service was great! The restaurant is a great addition and a big plus for the property. As well as the week went, our stay was not without some disappointment, the A/C in our room was malfunctioning and would not maintain room temperature less than 28 Deg C (79 Deg F). Needless to say Cancun in July and August is very hot, one would think a facility would have the resources available to address things like this. We contact the front desk on more than one occasion they stated repair people would have a look at it, but they never came. A new room was offered to us by a front desk Manger named "Luis" (he was not overly concerned about our issue, an unimpressive person to say the least) but was on a lower level (room 601) near the pool bar, we respectfully declined the replacement room as it did not compare to the one we were in. We emailed the the hotel director and got no response unfortunately, we discussed our concerns with Nadia also, but understandably so she has no control over the maintenance of these systems. As I stated, the A/C was well below average for a comfortable stay... Again disappointing we did not get a response from the hotel Manager/ Director, But as uncomfortable (temperature wise) the room was, the rest of the experience was very good, NYX is moving the property in the right direction
