Our Opinion

The Oasis Palm is a great hotel for young or student travelers that are looking for a great place to party. The party atmosphere can be felt both inside and outside of the resort. The pools play host to parties during the day and the city center is nearby, where there are plenty of nightclubs and bars. The food is OK here. While there is an array of choices available, it's nothing to write about. Their bar staff deserve recognition, as they are known for speedy and great service. The rooms are well maintained and cleaned regularly by attentive staff. The check-in and check-out process is a hit or miss at times. Depending on the volume of guests coming into the hotel, guests might experience slower service that usual. This is an OK hotel. However, if you're looking for a resort that's known for it's laid-back and relaxing atmosphere, it's better to look elsewhere.

Popular with younger travelers, Oasis Palm combines the convenience of including your meals and drinks with one of the best locations in Cancun - within walking distance of shops and nightlife. The laid-back seaside and poolside restaurants invite you to relax.

Location: Directly on the beach in Cancun's hotel zone, 5 min to downtown Cancun, 30 min from the airport.

Not quite 4 star

We were relocated to spend 2 weeks here when our trip to Cuba was cancelled because of Hurricane Irma. So... we didn't choose the hotel and we probably wouldn't have as it's described as a 'Family hotel' - not what my boyfriend and I were looking for! We were redirected just 2 days before we were due to fly to Cuba and had very little time to research the hotel beforehand. We did enjoy our trip (my boyfriend even proposed!) but I would say it's more 3.5 than a 4 star hotel. Hopefully this detailed review is helpful for anyone planning on staying. The RoomWe were given an ocean view room on the 6th floor (Room 611) and the view really was quite spectacular. We watched a great thunderstorm from the room one night and could see the boats heading out from their docking point by the hotel. However... having an ocean view means that you look out over the entertainment area and will therefore experience non stop music and people shouting through mics from about 11am until 11pm every day. You can also hear heavy chairs being moved around in the rooms beside, above and below, and the sound of doors slamming echoes throughout the hallways. Moments of silence were a rarity during our 2 week stay and although it didn't bother me too much as can sleep easily, I'm not sure how families with kids would fare and I would recommend earplugs if you're a light sleeper. On the plus side, the room was a good size and had everything we needed. A fridge would have been nice, but not essential. The bed was 2 smallish sized doubles pushed together which had it's uses! 3 bottles of water were replenished every day and the cleaners were both attentive in their daily cleans and respectful of the 'Do not Disturb' sign. The TV had some good channels on it with English speaking movies and the reception/service team were quick to fix any problems we had (e.g. the toilet blocked one day and was fixed within 15mins of calling the service team)On the downside.... the bathroom. I can only describe this as 'functional'. It was basically a tiled cupboard that they'd managed to squeeze a toilet and shower into: no bath, no window and the sink with mirror is located outside in the main room. Again, it all worked to do the job and we had no problems getting the water temperature right each day, but it was not a nice place to be as it would often store the heat and be a bit smelly from the drains. Definitely not a 4 star bathroom which was disappointing considering the price we paid.Service, Tips and Money ExchangeAll of the staff were really friendly and helpful at the hotel, with most speaking good English and working very hard to ensure we had a great stay. We felt like tips were expected for almost every activity or service, but guess this would be the case in the Americas. We would generally tip at the end of every a La carte meal, and sometimes at the buffet and bars if we received particularly good service from the team (Ceasar was fantastic at breakfast and Jail puts on a great fire show in Los Agaves!). We would also tip singers and dancers putting on shows in the evening. Our tips ranged from 20 pesos (about £1) to 100 pesos (about £5) depending on how good the service was. We left 200 pesos for cleaners at the end of our stay. We got all the information we needed about restaurants and activities at check in and reception were also very helpful whenever we needed to change money or ask questions. On the topic of money exchange, we got a reasonable rate from the hotel for GBP (21 peso to £1, compared to 18 peso in airports and 23 peso in town). Due to the convenience and no charge or commission fee, we thought this was a good deal and used the service throughout our stay.Entertainment: Oasis Palm vs Grand Oasis PalmIt can be a bit disappointing / confusing when you arrive at the Oasis Palm as you go into the entrance for the Grand Oasis Palm first, then get driven 'round the back' to use a side entrance which is distinctly less 'Grand' and makes you feel a bit lower class from the moment you arrive. The reason for this is that there are 2 hotels joined together which share facilities, some of which are exclusively for people staying at the 'Grand'. At first, I was disappointed with this and felt like we had the worst deal at Oasis Palm as there were about 4 restaurants /bars we couldn't use unless we paid to upgrade. I wanted to upgrade and investigated the price, but it was expensive at about £25 per person per day, so we decided to see how we got on in Oasis first before upgrading. I'm very glad we made this decision as by the end of the holiday we realised that we could still use many of the shared features of the Grand hotel (like the quiet pool, beach area and one of the bars) at no extra cost and we didn't expect the food to be that much better than what we had anyway. Also, there is very little entertainment on that side of the hotel and we found that most Grand guests came round to our side for the nightly shows (e.g. Latin and Mexican dancing shows, Circus, Live bands, Singers, Market stalls, Karaoke etc.) The quality of the entertainment was high and there was always a lot on in and around the hotel / on the beach. We don't have kids, so cant really comment on their entertainment. The only thing I would say is you start to hear repeats if staying for 2 weeks! The beach and the quiet pool on the Grand side are definitely 4 star and we spent a lot of time here having fun, sun bathing and relaxing. The main area was a bit too noisy and busy for us, but I'm sure it's great for the kids.We didn't try the spa as felt it was a bit overpriced.FoodThe food let this hotel down a bit, particularly dinner service. There is one main buffet restaurant which serves up a decent breakfast and is closed for lunch (a different buffet restaurant opens up for lunch which actually has quite a good range of pasta, salad items and cakes). The main buffet opens for dinner and is really disappointing. Everything is luke warm and a bit bland. The Mexican dishes are ok, but not something I want every night. You also get access to two A La Carte restaurants for lunch and dinner, one seafood and one Mexican. Again, these are 'OK', but nothing special and not quite 4 star. Los Agaves is the best by far out of the two and needs to be reserved in advance. There are more snacks (like burgers, hot dogs, sushi) available in addition to the main restaurants and these are OK, so we found we could make it through our 2 weeks mixing it up in the hotel and eating out a few times. One note on drink... you can get pretty much everything you want, except good wine!! The standard 'included' wine is really awful and vinegary. They have a wine list but you have to pay extra between £10 and £50 a bottle... I didn't take the chance as didn't know if it would be better!

Honeymoon of the Knights

I really enjoyed my stay at the Oasis Palm Beach. I did like the customer service and how they give you 3 bottles of water each day. The pool was nice, and the trip to the island on the ferry was nice. The food was not my favorite. A wayyyyy different taste from American food. Benjamin was great!! Taxi driver was great! Overall I enjoyed my stay

Great Budget Hotel

We went there for a weekend to meet some friends on their honeymoon. It was our first time staying at the Oasis. The facilities were clean, the staff was friendly, and it is on the quieter side for a Cancun hotel. The food was not that great, but it was not bad either. You did get what you pay for. Overall, we had a good time and enjoyed our stay at the Oasis.
