Our Opinion

The Occidental Tucancun is a great budget-friendly option for those wanting to stay at the heart of the resort strip. The resort overall is good in quality. The rooms are cleaned and mini-bar stocked regularly. Resort grounds including the pool are well-maintained. The food options were OK. The choices were limited over time with the buffet restaurant. Make sure to check out the Mexican and seafood a la carte restaurants. The one thing that makes this resort stand out from others is their staff. The staff are undoubtedly what make this resort. They're incredibly attentive and ensure that you're getting the most out of your stay. The entertainment staff in particular are super fun and helpful, especially if you're looking to experience the nightlife around Cancun.

Tucancun

We enjoyed our stay - we had not done an all inclusive before so this was a bit of a research stay, honestly. The convenience of the inclusive package was nice - the food variety was good and the service was friendly. The entertainment was average - but having onsite entertainment was convenient againLoved being right on the beach - some resorts have too much walking from beach to room, we liked this balance There wasn't a timeshare hustler on site- but the upgrade lady was very thurough about trying to get us into a presentation - and I put effort into avoiding her further. Drinks were good- with the notable exception that they don't serve real juice

Beaufitul view and the customer service is great!

We stayed from October 7th-October 15th and definitely enjoyed our trip at the Occidental Tucancun. We have stayed at the Barcelo in Cabo so we wanted to stay true to the hotel and try it out again in a different part of Mexico. Honestly the best part of staying at this hotel was the beach view and the workers!Upon arriving at the hotel, we were greeted by the Bellman Wel, who helped us out a good amount of times when we had questions about where to find something in the city, or even when we were waiting for our ride he would give us a heads up that they were there for us. When we checked in they gave us these delicious non-alcoholic drinks that had a great presentation to it and quenched our thirst from the 5hr flight. We had a basic king size room that did not have a view of the ocean so we were able to pay and upgrade to get an ocean view room with a balcony. We stayed in room 5044, everything except one light worked (the light over the table) but it didn't bother us.The fridge in the closet was always stocked up with beverages and the cleaning lady always did such a fantastic job cleaning our room and giving us new towels everyday. We always left her a tip :) The buffet was pretty average, I felt like the food was very similar all the time. Breakfast I would get the same thing (beans, scrambled eggs, chilequiles, sausages, or an omelette) lunch they had different themes to them but majority of the time it was the same things. We met one of the waiters at the buffet named Filiberto, he was great!! He was very attentive, knew us by name and always greeted us when he saw us around. He would even go out of the way to make my boyfriend quesadillas because one night he wasn't really feeling up to having the food that was out for buffet so Filiberto asked him what he wanted to eat and brought him a plate of quesadillas. Definitely great customer service right there! Going out of his way to have something made for a customer. We ate at the 3 different restaurants, by far the best restaurant was the Mexican Lindo spot. We had another waiter there named Julio D.L.C (who was from the Mexican theatre buffet) who greeted us with a handshake and remembered us from the night before. The food there was really great! Definitely recommend Mexican Lindo over the other restaurants. We stayed hanging around the lobby bar a lot where we got to know Alexi, she was a great bartender. Came up with different flavorful shots and knew us by name as well. The bartender over at the adult pool Alejandro was another great worker, he would get swamped every now and then with people but he held it down!We didn't care too much about the activity pool, or in the infinity pool. We did go down into the beach area and the water was beautiful. The first couple of days there were red flag warnings but the last 2 days we were there the water was so calm and perfect for swimming. Beach area was very clean and you have lounge chairs to lay on under the palm trees that are set up.When it came to entertainment, we watched a couple of the shows they had there at the Tucan Theatre. My favorite is the Michael Jackson impersonator, I like to compare the impersonators from different parts of Mexico trips we have taken and the Cancun impersonator has the others beat so far! I seen the same impersonator in April over at the GR Solaris and I was excited that it was the same group again. The Mexico show was nice, it showed a lot of different dances form different parts of Mexico. When it came to the night life we had a blast because of Jonathan and Joseph. These guys reeled us in the night we got there and we went to Mandala Club and on Friday night we went to The City (The 3rd largest night club in the world!) We paid them in the front lobby and got wristbands that allowed us all you can drink from 10:30pm-3:30am. Both different nights we had a great time, they were always there checking up on us and making sure everyone was in good hands. They provided the rides to the club and you just had to get a taxi or bus back to your hotel. Overall, we had a great week spent at Occidental Tucancun, it's located right behind the large Kukulcan Mall so if you ever get bored you can walk over to the cold AC mall or take a bus down to the flea market by the Clubs and do some shopping there. If you do want to do some shopping, I definitely recommend the small corner shop that's located near the lobby bar inside the hotel by the pharmacy. GREAT prices there, much cheaper than the flea market and you dont have to haggle with them. Plus all the US $ prices are already labeled on the items so its better then having to convert pesos to US $ lol We had an enjoyable time at this hotel, and want to thank all the workers we named above for the excellent customer service they provided us during our stay. P.S we made sure to TIP all of them EVERY SINGLE DAY, these workers deserved it. A lot of people do not tip at these all inclusive hotels, and let me tell you that it very well makes a huge difference in the type of service you will get.

Great Hotel and Staff

I really enjoyed my stay at Occidential Tucancun hotel. The atmosphere and Staff was wonderful. Especially the young lady(Andrea) that was running the pool activities. We played basketball game and ping pong and volleyball and also bingo

Great and relaxing vacation.

Staying at this resort was a last minute thing. Our original resort did not have room for our full vacation stay so we spent 2 days here. Let me say 2 days was not enough to enjoy the beauty of Cancun and the great amenities of this resort. Everything from the moment we arrived until we left was A Plus. With the except of the time share people. We really had a great time. The food, the service and the overall resort are wonder. We look forward to coming back here again and staying longer.

Just average but good enough for the cash

Everything was adequate. Except specialty resteraunt's . They were not ala carte and were just a below average buffet except the Mexican one which was great. Drinks seemed weak but tasted OK. Bartenders and staff were terrific. The whole hotel was kept pretty clean and tidy.
