Our Opinion

A pleasant hotel located near the beach. The a la carte restaurants are amazing. However, there is opportunity for improvement with their buffet items. Nonetheless, the resort has plenty of food choices available. There will always be helpful and friendly staff to assist guests. Both daytime and nightly entertainment is available, making this resort great for both families and couples. The grounds are well-kept and clean. However, refrain from staying during the rainy season, as many have reported that the facilities leak during times of heavy rainfall.

LOVED it... cant wait to return!

My husband and I traveled with our 5 year old daughter. Honestly.... the vacation was awesome! From the moment we checked in to the moment we left, my worries were gone. We had a FEW hiccups with our family concierge, and a few hiccups with our dinner reservations, but at the en of the day, everything was taken care of beautifully. Overall, the food at this resort was AMAZING!! Although breakfast was "mundane", it was good and for lunch and dinner, we never had a meal that wasn't WAY above our expectations! Our family concierge "Alexander", was really really amazing. He must've had a tracker on us as he could always find us to check how we were doing. My daughter was thrilled with his "treats" for her and even 2 months later, is asking when we can go back to Cancun to see Alexander. Additionally, the kids club was very responsive and entertaining for our daughter. She has NEVER been willing to stay in a club, but asked to go play several times. We so enjoyed our planned stay that we extended our vacation for an extra 2 days. For this extension, Alexander made arrangements for us to be upgraded to an AMAZING room with double balcony and GORGEOUS ocean view. I can't thank him enough!. And even though we hadn't paid to extend the "concierge", Alexander continued to monitor our needs and made sure our daughter was cared for. For our final night, we returned from dinner to find Chocolate covered strawberries and rose petals strewn across the bed. (nice thought..... but hello child in room)Ocean water was extremely rough for the entire stay but there are plenty of pools to keep anyone occupied.Hotel itself is beautiful. It was so peaceful to have all the greenery and running water inside. We didn't get to use the spa, as it was out of order for a few days. But it didn't dampen my experience. LOVED it... Would love to go back today!

Wonderful!

Let me preface my review with the fact that we are Melia Vacation Club Members and have many benefits not available to standard hotel room occupants. As members, we have a concierge, a butler, free use of the gym facilities and various discounts.Prior to arrival, we asked our concierge to note we wanted an ocean view room. I had specifically reserved a studio in hopes that there would be more studios with an ocean view than the size room which we originally bought. That worked; we were given an ocean view room (although not guaranteed prior to arrival) and avoided an argument at check in over room assignment. Our concierge also put us in touch with Otiem for hotel transports. Service was prompt; the vehicle was clean. Also, our transport was private; we didn’t have to stop at other resorts or be packed into a van. From check in to check out, our time at the Paradisus was near perfect. The room, while maybe a bit small, was clean and well decorated. With a few minor exceptions: there are very few electrical outlets and the sleeper sofa is poorly designed – my husband and I each cracked a toe on it, the bathroom outlet tripped regularly and was difficult to reset and the hot water was not on when we arrived. The fixable items were taken care of the next day. The ac wasn’t as cold as we would have liked but it was comfortable, even while sleeping. There was a one-speed (high) fan in the room which we couldn’t leave on all night as it rattled a bit. But when we returned from the pool, it was nice to have running to move the air in the room. (Okay, so the power was out one day; but no matter what hotel you were at on that day, the power was out – that was definitely not within the hotel’s control). With a lot of open air space, air conditioning in the hotel literally runs from comfortable to hot. Our room was never “cold” but comfortable. There was a one-speed (high) fan in the room which we couldn’t leave on all night as it rattled a bit. But when we returned from the pool, it was nice to have running to move the air in the room. The view of the beautiful blue ocean, as you walk out the doors at the center of the hotel, onto the patio area, will take your breath away. Every time I visit, I am awestruck at the beauty!Breakfast at Nao restaurant was always delicious. Service was cheerful and, usually, our coffee and water were monitored by the wait staff. There were a tremendous number of breakfast items from which to choose: Mexican fare, omelet / egg station, fresh fruits, cereals, breads and pastries, cheeses, etc. With the vast selection, it would be hard to walk away hungry. We also ate at Nao two evening. (Sometimes a full restaurant meal would have been too much). Don’t know if there is an upcharge but I heard that Wednesday evenings feature seafood, including lobster tails. Tuesday was Mexican night. We were happy to enjoy soup and salad with a large dessert selection on our two visits. For the reservation only restaurants, I wonder if the chefs are trying to outperform each other for wildest creations. They were good in their own way; but in reading the menu, we opted for the most “normal” sounding items. We ate at Fuego and Mole and were treated to one wine paring dinner at Tempo. At Mole, a family came in with a very cranky infant. Definitely ruined the evening. Please, I don’t pay to dine out and listen to your child scream.Tempo is a very upscale restaurant in the hotel. The chef (can’t remember or say the name) is a 6 star Michelin chef. While I couldn’t tell you what we were served, I can say that the food was delicious. Since this is not part of the all-inclusive, a visit to this restaurant will cost you big dollars (@ $200 US per person). The restaurant is very quiet and romantic, featuring a pianist and the best service in all of Cancun. If you think you would like to enjoy Tempo’s offerings, be sure to pack “nice” clothes – slacks and collared shirt for men and a dress for women. I think we will splurge on this one when we return to Paradisus Cancun. The hotel and grounds are beautiful. There are several pools: one pool is vast, running from a shallow “kiddie” area (near Tower 1) to a deep, large area (near Tower 2). The water temperature was comfortable. The pool bar is in the large pool. The other pool is split with Royal Service (Tower 4) and a more quiet pool area (Tower 3). Pool seating was often all “reserved” by 9 am. I know, the hotel discourages reserving chairs; but it happens. One afternoon, I did see a server removing towels from unoccupied chairs. Most likely, the server knew the occupants had left for the day. Most days, we treated ourselves to a Bali bed (Members have privileges, including reduced rates). These beds were made up daily with fresh covers on the mattress and pillows. Did I mention NO TOWEL CARDS?!Pool service was excellent. The three ladies (names not known) were the best. We were never out of water or drinks. While we could get our own snacks at the poolside grill, the servers offered and brought to us plates of chips with queso and salsa. Hamburgers, hot dogs, pizza and various other items were also available at the grill. In all, thank you to the Vacation staff and pool servers for their attention to making our trip wonderful. Our concierge, Louis, helped pre-arrival and made our reservations for dinners. Our butler, Jorge / Georgie, was so pleasant and fun. He took care of the details and showered us with a couple of surprise gifts. The three ladies who provided pool-side service were wonderful. They kept us from getting thirsty! It was fun to interact with all of them as we like to learn about them and the culture. Thank you, thank you! While gratuities are included in the all-inclusive, we did tip the servers. A few dollars for good service went a long way to ensure continued good service. Tipping was our choice. In all, this trip was wonderful. What could go wrong with sun, sand and a drink in my hand?

Had the greatest time and great value!

We signed up for the Royal treatment and that is exactly what we got! Loved the all-inclusive package. It was nice to not have to carry wallet around to pay for meal, drinks and other incidentals. We made sure to tip all of the outstanding employees who did everything they could to make our trip better. This is definitely a resort I will return to in the future!

The beach is unreal

I went here as a couple in the beginning of May for 5 days. The forecast was supposed to be thunderstorms for most of the week but fortunately it doesn't seem like the rain lasts long here. We got plenty of sunshine and sunburn.======== Landing========As soon as we landed in the airport, we got approached by some sort of travel agent that wanted to sell us excursions. We originally thought they were giving us directions until 20 minutes later when they were recommending alternate hotels and adventures that we were supposed to pay for on the spot. Having booked the trip through Expedia, I had already gotten emails about the various excursions that were available but we decided not to book anything ahead of time in order to be flexible. The last thing we wanted was to book a trip and not be in the mood for adventure. ========== Excursions ==========We ended up booking a package adventure through Aventuras Mayas to visit the ruins of Tulum, snorkel in a cenote (cave), and lastly ride ATVs in the jungle. Tulum was pretty interesting. The Tulum tour of the ruins lasted about 45 minutes to an hour. Twenty minutes or so was guided by our group leader Julio Cesar. He was very knowledgeable about the history of the ruins and had a good sense of humor. After the guided part of the tour, you get the rest of the time to explore yourself around the ruins to take pictures. You could even go to the beach. There was a bit of seaweed so we just watched people from afar. They have lots of little shops where you can buy souvenirs and tequila for pretty cheap. It was pretty hot out that day but luckily Aventuras Mayas provided water bottles and umbrellas. I don't know what we would have done without that umbrella as we were already sunburned.Next stop of the excursion was the cenote (cave). There are many different cenotes around Cancun but our particular one was underground. The water was freezing cold. And not in the way where the water is cold once you get in, but you get used to it after a little. I almost gave up on this part of the excursion as soon as I got in the water and it took a while to get used to the water even after being in it. Seeing the insides of the cave was pretty cool though and I wish I had a waterproof case for my phone to take pictures like some of our group members. They had some for sale at the location before we got in (2 for $20 if I remember correctly) but I forgot my wallet so I recommend you get your waterproof case and wallet before going there. There weren't many fish in the cave but the guides did give you history of the cenotes and teach you about stalactites and stalagmites. After the snorkeling, we had lunch which was pretty good. After lunch we went to go to the ATV's. Riding the ATV's in the jungle lasted longer than I expected. It was the best part of the excursion in my opinion. The ride was about 30-45 minutes. When booking the excursion, you get a choice of getting 1 ATV per person, or you can double up on 1 ATV. My girlfriend was worried about riding one by herself since she had never ridden one before but after it was all said and done, she's glad she we both rode single. It was a great time for both of us. Before you actually ride, they try to upsell you on buying insurance in case you crash or ruin the ATV. Since I forgot my wallet, I obviously didn't buy it. After going on the ride, I realized it's not necessary if you're not trying to do crazy tricks or drive reckless.Ricardo was our main driver from the hotel and was nice the whole time. Thanks for saving my life in that cenote. Also shoutout to Miguel who was also great and guided us part of the time. On the way back they drop everyone off at their respective hotels. The excursion lasted about the whole day (7am - 4pm). Ricardo was nice enough to wait for me to get my wallet from the hotel room, even after we realized we lost the hotel key at some point during the trip. The hotel lobby replaced the key with no hassle.====== Hotel======The hotel was beautiful inside and out. From green vines hanging from the ceiling in the center of the hotel to our balcony ocean view. There is an option to get Royal Service which is the adults only part of the hotel. After reading some of the reviews before we went, we wanted to try and upgrade to the Royal Service when we go there since there weren't any available Royal Service rooms available online when we booked. We just knew we had to get an ocean view room so we booked the regular King Size Ocean View. Pro-tip: Don't waste your money on a Royal Service room. They are similar to the regular rooms but you get access to the spa and adults only section of the resort which includes its own restaurant and pool. When we tried to upgrade to the Royal Service, they had no rooms open at the time, but instead of paying $700 more dollars each for a Royal Service room, we got to buy a Royal Service wristband which gave us access to everything and still got to keep our ocean view room in building 3 which is in the middle of everything. I HIGHLY recommend this if you really want to get Royal Service. The spa was nice, although a lot of the water functions in the hydrotherapy pool were broken. The spa also included a sauna, steam room, and shower. The adults only section overall seemed pretty boring and the pool did not include a swim-up bar like the main pool in the general area had. It was generally quiet so if you're into that sort of thing, go for it by all means.Since it was supposed to rain (although it didn't rain very much), the main pool area lacked entertainment during the day. One of the staff mentioned because it was cloudy and looked like rain, they didn't want to bring the equipment out. I brought a Jambox BIG, and I noticed a few other people brought their own portable speaker to have by the pool so I'm glad I brought that. We got to see entertainment during the day a couple days of our stay. One of which were Brazilian dancers dancing Samba and martial artists performing Capoeira. They were really good. The pool and all the outside things closed at 12 midnight which was surprising. Other resorts I've been to, I've hung out in the jacuzzi late at night. There are jacuzzi sections in the pool at Paradisus but they do not get warm. They only hold room temperature water. The ocean/beach was something out of a movie. The white sands and blue water were definitely something I wasn't used to seeing. It doesn't make sense to stay here without getting an ocean view room.====== Food======There are many restaurants on the resort, a lot of which require a reservation before hand. All of them are free with the exception of one which we did not attend. The food at the various restaurants were pretty good so pick a cuisine you like and I don't think you can go wrong. If reservations aren't your sort of thing, you can go to the buffet which is open every day. It also has pretty good breakfast/lunch/dinner.You can also get food delivered via room service for free at any time. They have a menu in the room.======= Drinks=======Obviously this is an important section since the resort is All-Inclusive. You can get drinks from any of the staff walking around the pool areas. The restaurants all serve drinks. The thing I was surprised about was I couldn't get drinks delivered via room service. You can get about anything else from food to first aid. They stock beer in the little refrigerator in the room but since I don't drink beer, it was necessary to get a bottle from the gift shop in the hotel for late nights when you're hanging out on the balcony. Crazy enough it was about 12USD for a bottle. I think we paid more for the shot glasses in there. I'm not sure if Royal Service provides liquor in the refrigerator but the non Royal Service rooms do not.======== Nightlife========There is a club (Red Lounge) in the hotel. It was pretty mediocre compared to clubs here in NY but I didn't expect much from a hotel club. We ended up going here at least for a little about 3 or 4 nights out of our stay. The DJ seemed to play the same playlist every night. Shout out to the bartender Christian AKA Gato who always was keeping the party going. I think the bachelorettes were a fan.On the Saturday night of our stay we went to Coco Bongo which is a club/disco downtown. They provide transportation from the hotel, but you'll have to get your own cab back. They make it seem like all transportation is included when you buy the wristband but it is not. It was 80 USD so it seemed a bit pricey and I was hardly in the mood at the time. After going though, the show was well worth it. 80USD covers the open bar which was hard to get to (try not to go on a Friday/Saturday), and was supposed to get us in the VIP line although we still found ourselves waiting for 20-30 minutes outside. There was also a Canelo fight that night so downtown was packed. But as I mentioned before, the show was well worth it. It had a Broadway/Cirque Du Soleil/Comedy Show vibe and later in the night (like 2am-3am), it turns into a club. The show itself was worth the 80 bucks though, even without the drinks. They apparently have one in Vegas and other islands (Punta Cana maybe?), but this one is supposed to be the best. I was definitely impressed and glad I went. There are other clubs around the same area as Coco Bongo for the people who don't want to pay 80USD. One of the clubs they mentioned was 30USD for open bar but we didn't go anywhere else downtown besides Coco Bongo.Overall I would definitely stay at this exact hotel again.
