Our Opinion

A pleasant hotel located near the beach. The a la carte restaurants are amazing. However, there is opportunity for improvement with their buffet items. Nonetheless, the resort has plenty of food choices available. There will always be helpful and friendly staff to assist guests. Both daytime and nightly entertainment is available, making this resort great for both families and couples. The grounds are well-kept and clean. However, refrain from staying during the rainy season, as many have reported that the facilities leak during times of heavy rainfall.

Treated like royalty without paying for Royal Service

Feb 13-20. Before we left, there were a lot of great reviews, but most from people who upgraded to RS. We thought in order to have a great vacation we needed to do this as well. Unfortunately, the hotel was sold out and we were unable to upgrade. Well, let me tell you, we would have thought we had upgraded. The service was exceptional! You didn't want for anything. All you had to do was ask. We spent our days at either the quiet heated pool outside of Naos (buffet), or on the beach. You did not have to get up at the crack of dawn to reserve sunbeds, but be sure to get there by 9 am if you want shade. We only went to three a la cartes, and probably preferred the buffet. It was always amazing. The only downside was that the food was warm at best. This is the only area this hotel needs to address. There was always good grilled food pool side, and the last full day there they had the most amazing food (grilled steak, chicken and ribs)! We initially requested a king bed, but only room available was in the very tired Melia Club building. We immediately called the front desk who repositioned us on the 7th floor of building 3, but we had to put up with two doubles. Minor concession for a much nicer room! All in all, one of the best we have stayed at. The people who work there, regardless of their position were extremely kind and accommodating. Of note, we ordered room service for dinner one night as we were very tired (and lazy), and had one of the best burgers ever while on holiday, and service was really quick!

Great All-Inclusive and Better Service

Just returned from an 8 night stay at the Paradisus Cancun. This is the third all-inclusive resort that I have stayed visited in Mexico. It is now the best one, and we will return next February. Had a great room in Tower 1 with Royal Service and ocean view. Room was excellent, great accomodations, and impeccable maid service. Only quibble would be the water pressure in the shower, a very minor issue.Upon arrival, Getsabe welcomed us and was wonderful to work with. Along with Luis, the concierge, we were able to obtain a wonderful room, get reservations for dinner and all of our questions answered within minutes. My past experiences with all-inclusives has been the quality of the food, but not here. All the restaurants we ate in were very good. I had no issues with quality whatsoever. The service from welcome to departure was wonderful. I would like to call out Eddie C., Jorge, Ricardo, and Valeria at the adults section of the resort. They spent the better part of a week taking care of us at the pool and beach serving us food and cocktails the whole week we were there. They were wonderful people and we had fun with them all week. Finally I would also like to thank Carlos from the adults pool. He took care of us every morning that we went to the pool or beach. He arranged for lounge chairs, towels and Bali Beds for us whenever they were available. Wonderful people, wonderful resort and a great time. I want to thank all of these folks as well as others who provided a great experience for me and my girlfriend. We are looking to book again next February and will extend our stay even longer. Thanks to everyone at the Paradisus Hotel, and Club Melia. Outstanding job.!!

Gaudencio at Naos

Gaudencio is the best server in Cancun! Ask for him on the breakfast shift at Naos. Treated us like family. He was very accommodating throughout our entire vacation. We were spoiled. Thank you Gaudencio for making our trip memorable.

Attentive Waiters

Jorge, Eddie and all the waiter staff at the adults only La Palapa Royal Services, Paradisus Cancun are the best at what they do. We will miss them. Also Ruth, Betsy and Jorge at Club Melia, pyramid #1, Paradisus Cancun are the sweetest people you could ever meet. My wife Sally cried the day we had to leave.

The Good, The Bad, The Ugly

Before I begin, let me state that we are Melia Vacation Club members, and our experiences are slightly different than regular hotel guests. That said, I will concentrate most of my comments on areas of common interest.AppearanceThe physical property is lovely. The view from the drive is very impressive, with all 5 pyramids visible. A woman in our shuttle said "Oh My God, you're staying HERE? This place is incredible!". And it is. The lobby is open, very airy, tall, and inviting. Reception is to the left as you enter the lobby located in pyramid 3, in a separate check in area. Never once did we see long lines, or people with typical front desk issues. That seems to be a good sign. MVC members check in in pyramid 1, which isn't immediately clear but a staff member escorted us to the check in area. Check-in was fast and efficient. The entire lobby area is clean and appears to be well maintained. RoomsAs I was never in a regular hotel room, I won't make any assumptions. The room we reserved was a Studio, which had a king bed a bathroom. There is no kitchenette in the studio units, despite what the website shows. The bath was all granite, and included a tub/shower, and a bidet. We always had sufficient hot water and pressure. Our room was always kept clean by housekeeping, and the refrigerator was always stocked with water, soda, and beer.PoolThere is one very large pool. There is also a small children's area of the main pool, which we noticed a number of families were using. There is also a "private pool" for Royal Service customers. More on them later. Bali beds surround the pool, but they are all reservation only, and are extra charge for everyone, including MVC members. Other Melia properties offer Bali beds at no charge for MVC members. There is no whirlpool or hot tub. At one end of the pool is a pool bar, which closes at 6pm. Drinks of any kind are NOT allowed in the pool. This rule doesn't seem to be enforced. We never had a problem getting pool chairs, despite the resort being full. No diving is allowed, the pool isn't deep enough for that. There is no "artificial beach", for easy access, you have to use the steps.BeachCancun sand is like no other; it's like flour. The sand is soft and very white, and is never hot. Very different from Pacific sand. There are palm trees, palapas, and beach chairs. We saw very few beach vendors, which is nice.Food and BeverageThere is a beach bar. It is open until 12 or 1am. There is no actual lobby bar, at least not one that is quiet. The beach bar is often windy, and there isn't really a view. Everything is very dark at night. Drink taste is pretty consistent from bar to bar, leaving me to believe that the bartenders use the same formulas for mixing. The "so-called" lobby bar is used for entertainment, so it is impossible to find a quiet corner to have a drink and have a conversation.Breakfast is always at the buffet, located on the ground floor of the main building. Although never disappointing, it's always the same. The only way to get something hot for breakfast is to have an omelette or have eggs made to order. For reasons unknown, the Paridisus Cancun has NO steam tables in their buffet. Hot food brought from the kitchen quickly gets cold sitting on the bricks that have been placed in the steam table openings. Sometimes, even food from the kitchen that should be hot, is cold before it is even placed on the bricks. I watched kitchen help bring a tray of tater tots out from the kitchen, and place them on the bricks. Hoping to get them "fresh out of the kitchen", I got some to go with my eggs. Surprise! All were cold as a stone. Whomever had the lame idea to disable the steam tables and fill them with bricks ought to be shot at sunrise. FAIL. Lunch is either at the buffet (same issues as at breakfast) or the pool snack bar. The problems with the main buffet speak for themselves, and the pool snack bar isn't much better. Burgers and hot dogs are placed in stainless steel trays and allowed to get cold. Another FAIL. There is a Mexican "taco place" inside that will actually make you "tapas style" tacos and other items. It is pretty good, especially considering how bad everything else is. Dinner was either at the buffet (different themes every night) or one of the specialty restaurants. Our MVP concierge had made reservations for us at all of them, so we had something different every night. All I'm going to say is that the menu for each of the specialty restaurants NEVER changed for the week we were there, that should tell you everything you need to know. Now, if the menus were extensive, that might be fine, but the offerings were very limited, and not main stream at all. The best of them all was a Spanish Tapas restaurant, which was reasonable. For that reason alone, most of these restaurants get a FAIL from me. We never went back after the first time. The nightly buffet was marginally adequate, at least there was an attempt to change things up every night, but there was nothing exciting, and nothing that was served hot. Not memorable.EntertainmentWhat entertainment? There is no showroom, so the "shows" are put on in the lobby bar, which is inadequate at best. The room is too small, any "show" is difficult to see, and the acoustics of the space make everything impossible to hear. For a property of this caliber, it was the second major disappointment, next to the food.StaffThe staff is attentive and helpful. We never met anyone who didn't have a positive attitude. There is, however, an emphasis on the "caste" system. There is this "thing" at the Parisisus called "Royal Service", which is an extra charge for hotel guest who want (or need) a personal concierge, and a private pool, and a private dining area. This seems like an East Coast thing, as we have noticed similar types of service levels at properties catering to East Coast folks. Different strokes, I guess. Maybe you have to have "Royal Service" to get hot food.In Cancun, eating out isn't necessarily an easy option. One would need to take the bus or a taxi to town, nothing is within walking distance.ConclusionIt probably sounds like I am trashing the Paridisus, I'm not. I just see room for major improvement. First off, we will likely come back. However, I won't expect much from Food and Beverage. The all-inclusive is very expensive and I don't feel that I received value for what it cost. I would plan on eating out, and would get a larger room with a kitchenette, so we could at least prepare our own HOT breakfast.I would challenge the Food and Beverage manager to eat in his own restaurants, just like a guest, not sampling food in the kitchen. There IS a problem that needs to be addressed. Fix the food and I will be in love with the place. Otherwise, there are other properties in the Hotel Zone that do a better overall job.
