Our Opinion

Top of the line, beautiful hotel! The Riu Palace Las Americas is near the top of the list for 5 star resorts in Cancun. Great food, service and entertainment. Champagne for breakfast! Rooms are all junior suites and are very nicely finished. The beach area is a bit small, but they make up for it with two great infinity pools. Now an adults-only resort, this is a definite recommend for couples.

Perfect Trip

My husband and I visited in late April 2017 and we can't say enough about the great time we had. The resort was beautiful and the weather was PERFECT. We didn't interact with the staff a lot as we like to do our own thing but any time we did they were very friendly and accommodating. We didn't have to wait for a thing. I would recommend when you book here to book an ocean front view. Any other view faces another resort or the street. If you don't mind that, save yourself a few bucks. We upgraded when we got there which cost us around $260 for the week, definitely worth it. You don't need reservations to eat in the specialty restaurants, it's a first come, first serve. We ate at the buffet for all of our meals. Mostly because we didn't want to wait in line if we wanted to eat a little later and because we like variety. We found that most of the food you could get at the specialty restaurants was also available at the buffet. The pools are great, I read some reviews where people complained about them being too cold but we found them refreshing. The location of this resort is perfect. You walk out the front, cross the street and you can walk into town which we did almost every day. There is a shopping mall across the street, if you go there look for the shop Artesanias Gregory, the shop owner Miguel Chi will give you the best price for anything you can find in the mall. Tell him Tom and Dawn sent you and you'll get an even better deal. We LOVED every minute of this trip, it was probably our best vacation ever and we go somewhere new every year. We would go back here in a minute. I don't think you'll be disappointed if you book here but everyone's expectations are different. We are laid back, low maintenance and want to chill with cocktails by the pool on vacation so we were pleased. The shows at night were pretty good, nice entertainment. We didn't go to all of them but the ones we did we enjoyed. We will be going back for sure.

Don't want to leave!

We are currently on vacation with our friends and family. The hotel is ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL. Not only is the hotel stunning but the three pools are as well. The hotel staff are so friendly and very attentive, I highly recommend this palace. I do NOT want to leave.

Fantastic Stay

This was my first all inclusive and I couldn't have picked a better resort. Friendly staff, beautiful resort, and amazing food. If this was the only resort I ever come back to I would be just fine with that. Pros: - Rooms were nice with an ocean view and they were on top of their game when it came to cleaning them- Food was awesome. Breakfast, lunch and dinner. There are 6 restaurants on the resort. we really enjoyed the Steakhouse, Mexican joint and Don roberto (or Romero can't remember).Big shout outs to Daniel (lunch) and Rocket Ismael (breakfast) - beach was beautiful lots of space. water was awesome to get into.- The only water activity we did was sea dooing and that was a lot of fun- the staff at this resort were phenomenal - Adults Only Cons:- man, does the wifi in the rooms ever suck. Works great everywhere else including the beach just not in the rooms.- beach drink service was hit and miss. Good on some days lacking on others. Big shout out to Enrique who was always on top of his game.- I'd say the fancy cocktails (Pina coladas margaritas etc) could use a little more alcohol content in them- No fan in the bathrooms

Amazing resort. Definitely would come back.

I have nothing but great things to say about this resort! Myself and three other friends had stayed from June 5th to June 12th. See below for some key things to note from our trip.RESORTThe resort is b e a u t i f u l. The customer service is also unmatched! All workers are friendly, accommodating, and certainly hard-working. As others have mentioned, you are likely to always see staff cleaning so the resort grounds remain spotless. Special mention to Felix at the front desk for being so great to us throughout our trip.WiFi is available and free. You can catch it at the pool and on the beach at times. Great plus.As for the odour, I didn't find it as strong or as bothersome as other reviews describe. You notice it on the first day but then get used to it, it's just a usual humid smell.ROOM & VIEWOur room was located on the 8th floor and our view was magnificent. There are minibars and liquor dispensers in all rooms. Housekeeping cleaned very well.POOL & BEACHPools were well maintained with two bars in the area (walk-up and swim-up). The hotel usually hosts activities in one of the pools to keep it lively - bingo, some friendly competitions, volleyball, dancing, etc. Beach was very clean and bar service extended to the beach which was great. No need to reserve spots with a towel early morning as there are plenty to accommodate everyone. There were a few vendors that would walk by every couple hours but you can politely decline. They were selling wraps, jewelry, souvenirs, coconuts, mangoes, etc.The resort offers a few activities for $2 USD I believe (snorkeling, sailing, canoeing, etc. See resort Guide Book in room.) Jetskiing also offered for $55 USD for 30 minutes.FOODBuffet selection was great and changed almost every day. We ate breakfast and lunch at the buffet everyday and then had an a la carte dinner (and sometimes even returned to the buffet for more dessert.) Options for most dietary restrictions - vegetarian, vegan, lactose-free, etc. Check out the Riu Cancun buffet if you have time, they offer a bit more selection.Buffet servers also have a great sense of humour and asked us at the end of almost every meal whether we were ready for tequila. Even if it was 11am! Haha. Our favourite a la carte restaurant was Sakura (shoutout to Miguel and Wilbur for their great service) and Krystal was a close second. The steakhouse and the mexican restaurant were next in our rankings. Italian restaurant's entrees were great but we weren't too fond of their appetizer buffet. There's also a 24-hour lounge open for some quick snacks (nachos, burgers, hot dogs, fruits, etc.)DRINKSDrinks all day everyday. They offered a full bar and my favourite order was the Chocolate Monkey (chocolate banana shake with alcohol, not on the menu). Wines were good too, especially their Rosé.NIGHTLIFEThere are usually events or shows at night held in the theatre. There's a schedule on a screen in the main lobby that shows the schedule for the day. With the access to Riu Cancun, you also have the option of walking next door and going to their disco called La Pacha. Open 11pm to 2:00am, enough time to dance the night away. Music is decent. The resort also organizes outings (ie. clubbing, paint parties, foam parties, etc.) to local venues off the resort.FITNESSThe resort offers water fitness classes on some days and there is also a gym with some dumbbells, medicine balls, a few cable/ weight machines and cardio equipment.EXCURSIONMy boyfriend and I went on the Xplor excursion - we bought it on the plane. It was extremely fun and it included ziplining, driving an ATV, rafting, and swimming in a cave. Great for those seeking a little bit of adventure. Bring a waterproof phone case if you want to get some good pictures - you get wet on every activity. They sell waterproof cases at the venue or on the way there for $50 USD so you're better off bringing your own if you'd like to get some footage.STRIP The resort is walking distance from numerous souvenir shops and the flea market is a little down the road. DON'T FORGET- Small bills (USD or pesos) for tipping! - Sunblock. We were there for 8 days and if you are out all day and reapply frequently, you're likely to use up a bottle on your own, if not more.- Bug spray.Overall our stay here was nothing short of amazing and we would definitely come back. The views alone made the trip worthwhile. Can't wait to return!

Great hotel - Bad smell

Six of us just got back from a 5 day 4 night stay in the hotel. First impression. WOW! beautiful hotel~ But whats that odor. Smelled like a musty basement. Should've known when I saw the de-humidifiers set up in the hallway out side of our room. Got to our room - views were amazing, again even a stronger MOLD smell... told the front desk and they offered to have the housekeeping to clean the room or get moved to another room. We stayed. I didn't want to deal with uprooting all of what I unpacked. In the lobby there was a deodorizor mist machine that would puff out a more pleasant smell to mask the musty basement smell. IF you can get past the MOLD Smell. the pools, pool bar and beach were amazing! BEST dinner spot hands down is Black & White - the steak and lobster are out of this world. If going to the buffet- ask to sit with Ismel. HE cares deeply about making you happy! Beautiful Place - but it should smell like mold!!!
