Our Opinion

An outstanding hotel to visit when you're in Cancun. Compared to the other resorts, the Riu Palace Peninsula is a bit larger than other resorts that you would find along the hotel zone. Great a la carte and buffet items to choose from here. The variety of food here is incredible. It can be guaranteed that you'll never experience the same thing twice when dining in a restaurant. Compared to most other all-inclusive resorts, the quality of food here is good. The resort grounds are always clean and well-maintained. While the majority of the rooms are pretty good, the special suites have a tendency to be cramped. They may offer extra perks such as an in-suite jacuzzi. The pools are what this resort is notable for. Regardless of your age, there is a pool atmosphere here that is appropriate for you. While the staff remain attentive and try their best to accomodate to your needs, be advised that the check-in process can be relatively lengthy.

Overview

Riu Palace Peninsula is located next to the Riu Caribe on a dazzling stretch of white sand beach, framed by tropical vegetation and crystal clear turquoise water. This Riu Palace luxury resort features seven specialty restaurants with wonderful cuisine ranging from Japanese to Italian to Mexican, six bars, water sports, two freshwater pools (one heated in the winter and the second with a Jacuzzi and swim-up bar) daily entertainment and an on-site Mayan ruin discovered during the hotel construction.

The spacious and luxurious guestrooms include predominantly white decor with vibrant accents as well as signature RIU amenities, including the famous Riu liquor dispenser. Soak in hydro massage tubs large enough for two and admire the spectacular views from your private balcony. Revel in a variety of land and water sports as well as fun activities. The RiuLand Kids Club will keep children entertained with supervised games, while the new RiuArt program will help you discover your inner artist. For an extra treat, indulge in pampering treatments at the Renova Spa.

Exceptonal Anniversary

ROOM: We staying in the Adult Only Villas, The adult only pool is exceptional and we swam at night after hours. The location is excellent drinks were delivered to out porch and there is a bar right outside the Villas at night. The Entertainment is GREAT the reviews are not fair. The Michael Jackson show was incredible. The win it in a min was super fun to watch. I don't know why people complain about the beds, ours was very comfy. Our room was super clean every day. Shower is great superb. FOOD: I cant imagine anyone having problems in this area. There are so many choices YOU DO NOT NEED RESERVATIONS. Italian ap. buffet is tasty. Steak house has lobster but we mostly ate at the buffets. I TOOK baggies and we snacked all day. The sports bar has chips cheese burgers and veggies... we would make nachos at night if we were hungry. The room service is also available 24 hours the crispy chicken tostadas are yummy. Thursdays are all you can eat lobster. The coffee shop can bring you milkshakes with booze in them! I highly recommend.STAFF: WE TIP. so this might explain why I was treated like a QUEEN. They made us feel very special every moring at the buffet.MUST DO: you have to do the park in downtown Cancun and eat the mayo corn and churros! ISLA MUJERES on the golf carts ...day ferry ride over is the next group of buildings over, We saw the turtles and drove around all day. GREAT MEMORIES.We had drinks every time we sat down. The Riu is a service machine. Excellent Experience.

Great time except for a nosy guest

Very nice place, very clean.. I would have given it 4 stars except there was a guest in the adult area that we stayed in, He was a older gentleman with a ponytail he seemed to be a regular but he made my wife and her sister feel very creeped out he kept staring at them and he would go around looking at peoples bracelets to make sure they belonged in our area later I found out he doesn’t even work there.. He made us feel very uncomfortable we even left the pool area at one point even though we had every right to be there. After hearing he is there often I might not return to this Riu since he made people feel like they were doing something wrong.. Other than that it’s a very nice place. Hopefully they put that guest in his place and let the staff do their job and minds his own business.

Lovely Hotel! This hotel is a MUST if you go to Cancun

It was a big pleasure to stay in this hotel. We stayed for 11nights from the 1st of November. I do not regret that I have choosed Riu Palace Peninsula to celebrate 10yrs anniversary and to spend my holiday. It was the best holiday I had so far. Was the first time we came to Mexico and we didn't want to come back home. The view from our room was amazing ( room 1520). Food, staff and service was very good.Huge thanks to Delfino that prepared a romantic table - very nice surprise amigo. Foam party and beach party were the best.Dani is very good I was enyoing his aqua class and zumba.I enjoyed every minute staying there. If you want to have fun, to relax and to have a nice holiday this is the place.Muchas gracias por todo Riu Palace Peninsula.

Would I go again ? Definitely.

A group of four of us stayed at the Riu Palace Peninsula between the 1st and 8th of November this year. For two of us, it was our second time at the Riu Palace Peninsula and third time in a Riu resort in Cancun. This isn’t a short review but I think it’s fair and probably worth a read if your booking through the TUI group. First of all I’d like to say that it’s very unlikely you’ll be disappointed with this hotel. The Riu brand generally always seem to be close to perfect but do let themselves down with some really small niggles that I have no doubt could easily be ironed out (the issues we had are stupidly small). It’s interesting though that the same things that annoyed me a year ago at the Riu Cancun and two years ago back at the Riu Palace Peninsula haven’t changed. Check in was efficient and fast with a refreshing mimosa offered on arrival. The lady at the reception desk was very polite and explained everything we needed to know. We were advised that we had been selected for a free room upgrade on account of it being our joint anniversary’s. This seemed familiar for two of us as I feel like I remember being told this a few years ago too. On reaching the rooms on the twelfth floor, with perfect views over the pools and beach it seemed obvious that it wasn’t really an upgrade but definitely not a disappointment. In my experience the rooms are fairly standard throughout unless your booking a swim up room or honeymoon suite. If we did receive an upgrade it was just a slightly larger balcony. A nice touch was the complimentary champagne left in the room on the second day and free upgrade to the VIP restaurant. I thought that this was very thoughtful and really appreciated it. Luggage was delivered to the rooms in a timely manner, the rooms were spotlessly clean with plenty of space for all of our clothes. The walk in showers are brilliant as are the jacuzzi baths and his and hers bathroom sinks. Toilets are separate and again, spotless. Beds are extremely comfortable as are the pillows , neither of us had a bad nights sleep. Minibar and drinks dispensers are restocked daily with soft drinks , Dos Equis (local beer - decent stuff) a selection of regional spirits and absolute vodka. The rooms are spot on. There are four pools here, three of which everyone has access to with one reserved for customers who have opted for swim up rooms (VIP). The pool areas aren’t too busy and we never struggled for a well positioned lounger. There is also ample room on the small private beach. The rest of the hotels beach is quite rocky but still just as picturesque. Drinks are served all day by waiters who are diligent and hard working. Guzman and Cruz stood out to us , both do an awesome job. Cruz worked the beach area on our last visit a few years ago and standards have certainly not slipped. I did notice that the overall quality of the pool areas had slipped a little since our last visit. Nothing major but not as spotless as I had remembered. Nothing to worry about but noticeable if you’ve been here before. I’d completely avoid the bar in the swim up pool ! People will literally sit in this all day and I doubt they’ve been blessed with hollow legs. I suspect the latter explains the murky colour. That said it looks pretty clean again each morning so the waters clearly well looked after. The pool bar and central pool are heated, the infinity pool and long kidney dish shaped pool are not and were actually quite cold. The food at the Riu Palace Peninsula is good. The main buffet , Las Olas has a nice selection for customers of all nationalities. It’s clean and we didn’t really have a bad experience here but were never blown away. It does get a bit same old though as would most buffets. Service was hit and miss depending where we sat. Look out for Salvador. His service was consistently spot on during breakfast. Small niggle here during dinner ; when a plate has been removed, cutlery isn’t automatically replaced. You sometimes return with another plate of food but will be waiting around for the cutlery. If you ask for a drink with no ice , they often come with ice. If you ask for red wine , you sometimes get white. Use a bit of Spanish and you’ll be fine. The hotel is advertised as having 5 a la cartes. Fusion (Fusion), Japanese (Kabuki), Steak (Isla Mujeres), Mexican (Tamales) and Italian (Italian). You don’t have to book any of these which is a big improvement on a few years back. It’s really easy to get a table. No complaints, enjoyed the Italian and steak house. Italian is kind of a buffet though, you only order your main meal. Generally speaking the staff can’t do enough for you, the service is pretty good and they’re very polite. The English of most is much better than my Spanish but they do appear to be appreciate your effort with their lingo ! Guzman, Cruz, Brenda and Salvador are a credit to this hotel. Would I go go back to this place ? Definitely. The building really stands out , the service is generally very good , the food you cannot complain about and the service is generally brilliant with a few silly things that annoy . You have to go Isla Mujeres, rent the jet skis and go Coco Bongo’s !

Great Hotel didn’t want to come home

We arrived on Thursday 2nd November for a 10 night break with our friends which were another couple.Upon arrival we tipped the receptionist to get a upgrade to a better room. Omgggg the room was out of this world we loved it, the size, the view, the jacuzzi bath. It was never ending! The beds were so comfy we didn’t want to get up!Pool areas were great, service from the waiters at pool area was fantastic couldn’t fault it. The beach area is nice, not the nicest I have saw but still worth giving it a go!The food was very gd we started in the buffet restaurant for lunch and dinner became a bit repetitive though, especially when breakfast was basically the same every morning. So much so I didn’t bother going the last day.The a l’carte restaurants were nice, our favourites were Japanese and Steak house. The Mexican was very disappointing and so was Krystal to be honest. The Italian was lovely again although same food over and over again.Entertainment at night could have been better. Not up to much I think as a young person the hotel is lacking a nice relaxing cocktail bar to sit in with comfy couches and good music. My only faults I have with the hotel is the 24 hour sports bar. I have never encountered a stale smell like I did in there in all my life. It actually put me and my partner off going in was disgusting. The food was never fresh either, always lying about very stale! One morning I walked in for a bottle of water for the gym and the waiter was washing the uncooked hot dogs and had no gloves on, in a dirty sink which had dirty glasses in it.Could have been sick put me off hotdogs for life to be honest.Definitely a massive let down could have done so much more with that bar! The gym was also a terrible let down, the amount of equipment and variety was pretty shocking. Hardly any weights and wasn’t well maintained.Had to go out repeatedly and ask spa staff to fill up water machine paper towels etc.For a 5 star hotel it wasn’t up to much at all! Also the small shop located in the hotel which sells clothes, toiletries, snacks like crisps chocolate etc is a absolute rip off stay clear. The pharmacy Shop 2 mins down the road is half the price!I would like to thank the house keeping for making our holiday with there little surprises they left in the room for us on numerous occasions the room was kept immaculate. Thanks for a wonderful stay very happy with our holiday.
