Our Opinion

An outstanding hotel to visit when you're in Cancun. Compared to the other resorts, the Riu Palace Peninsula is a bit larger than other resorts that you would find along the hotel zone. Great a la carte and buffet items to choose from here. The variety of food here is incredible. It can be guaranteed that you'll never experience the same thing twice when dining in a restaurant. Compared to most other all-inclusive resorts, the quality of food here is good. The resort grounds are always clean and well-maintained. While the majority of the rooms are pretty good, the special suites have a tendency to be cramped. They may offer extra perks such as an in-suite jacuzzi. The pools are what this resort is notable for. Regardless of your age, there is a pool atmosphere here that is appropriate for you. While the staff remain attentive and try their best to accomodate to your needs, be advised that the check-in process can be relatively lengthy.

Overview

Riu Palace Peninsula is located next to the Riu Caribe on a dazzling stretch of white sand beach, framed by tropical vegetation and crystal clear turquoise water. This Riu Palace luxury resort features seven specialty restaurants with wonderful cuisine ranging from Japanese to Italian to Mexican, six bars, water sports, two freshwater pools (one heated in the winter and the second with a Jacuzzi and swim-up bar) daily entertainment and an on-site Mayan ruin discovered during the hotel construction.

The spacious and luxurious guestrooms include predominantly white decor with vibrant accents as well as signature RIU amenities, including the famous Riu liquor dispenser. Soak in hydro massage tubs large enough for two and admire the spectacular views from your private balcony. Revel in a variety of land and water sports as well as fun activities. The RiuLand Kids Club will keep children entertained with supervised games, while the new RiuArt program will help you discover your inner artist. For an extra treat, indulge in pampering treatments at the Renova Spa.

Location: Beachfront in Cancun's hotel zone, 10 min to downtown, 45 min from the airport.

Second time around

We just got back a week ago from Riu Palace Peninsula. This is our second time at this hotel and it was just as fabulous as we remembered. We were able to take our two boys, who are young men now, with us this time and we all had an amazing time. Food was good and we LOVED not having to make reservations ahead of time, like we had done during our previous stay. As we remembered the hotel was spotless and staff were very friendly and accommodating. We already want to go back again!

Nice resort but not all views are created equal

This is not my first time at a Riu resort but my first time at this one. We paid extra for the adults only villa and our building had no view other than the two buildings in front of us. The villas are three stories High and only the front two view the ocean. Traveling from Minnesota, it is important to me to see or at least hear the ocean from my balcony. Not the case here. The food was good. I especially enjoyed the restaurant available to the adult villa occcupants only. Not much of a beach as there were a lot of rocks. The staff is great and I liked the nightly entertainment. The Elvis impersonator was so good and funny!

Awesome property but we experienced several mostly minor maintenance issues.

The good:- No more restaurant reservations. This was always a PITA having stayed at three other Riu's over the years.- No more running down first thing in the morning to reserve seating. The grounds are expansive and very well maintained. There was no problem finding seats.- Food was very good for an all inclusive. Best were lobster at the outside restaurant, sea bass at the Krystal, sushi at the Japanese, and the buffet which had an awesome selection.- Service and Staff were exceptional. A few names come to mind...Neyro (I think), Eduardo, and Ruffina, (all buffet), Yvonne and Linda, (staff employees), and Javier who always kept our drinks full by the pool. - The coffee shop was awesome.- The shows and bands were very good.- The rooms were very well maintained. The bad:- They had us in a room with double beds. WTF? My wife and I prefer to sleep together. However, they did change us to another room with a king sized bed after one night.- One of three elevators was down approximately 50% of the time. One morning, two of the three were down. Fortunately, we were on the first floor (which is actually three floors up) so we used the stairs many times.- The ceiling fan in the room had a loud clicking sound.- Had to call the front desk twice because the TV would not work. The second time the repairman showed me that all I had to do was to unplug and re-plugin the TV. Again, WTF? Replace the outlet! The TV went out several more times during our stay.- Our friends were also staying at the hotel. The fan in their room was missing the beaded pull string so they could not turn it on.With the exception of the elevators, none of the maintenance items were show stoppers but come on, these are simple fixes.Bottom line...My wife and I would stay at this hotel again.

Massive resort off the strip .

We stayed for seven nights in the king jacuzzi suite. The suite was massive, larger then our 2 bed condo downtown Toronto with a huge patio. Amazing views of the sea from every window. We were on the sixth floor and could literally walk around nude as we had no overlooked windows. I've stayed in many all inclusive resorts this was by far the best suite we've stayed in. That said, the food was poor for a hotel of this grade. We were left hunting for it a lot throughout the day which infuriated us. Drinks too you needed to tip just to get beach service. The service, frankly I found everyone I dealt with poor. This is contrary to every other Mexican resort I've stayed in. I really found them all to be unfriendly and unhelpful. The other glaring thing I noticed was the lack of English. Again a resort of this size and star rating I would have expected better. I found this a plus, but it is quite a far drive in a cab to the main strip. Because we found the food so poor at the hotel and truthfully because we like to eat out we left the hotel every night and found ourselves spending as much as $30 US to get to any particular high-end restaurant Overall I found for the money we spent and the suite we stayed in it was good value for money. However if I had stayed in a regular suite which were no larger than small New York hotel rooms I definitely would not recommend this hotel there are better beaches closer to the strip in Cancun. If you're not a really fussed about food but do you want five star amenities this hotel really does have all of that.

Beautiful Resort!

We just returned from 7 days at the Riu Palace. Beautiful lobby and grounds. we stayed in a villa. They were extremely nice, but looking back probably would not stay in them again. we like to spend most of our time at the beach and never used the private pool. We loved the fact a person didn't need to make reservations for supper. The seafood buffet on Thursday nights is a must! Ate at the Italian restaurant. it was okay. we ate many times at the steak house and we were never disappointed. Cruz, the beach waiter was awesome! Same as Diego at the lobby bar. The one downside to this resort is a person isn't able to take long walks on the beach due to rocks etc.
