Our Opinion

An outstanding hotel to visit when you're in Cancun. Compared to the other resorts, the Riu Palace Peninsula is a bit larger than other resorts that you would find along the hotel zone. Great a la carte and buffet items to choose from here. The variety of food here is incredible. It can be guaranteed that you'll never experience the same thing twice when dining in a restaurant. Compared to most other all-inclusive resorts, the quality of food here is good. The resort grounds are always clean and well-maintained. While the majority of the rooms are pretty good, the special suites have a tendency to be cramped. They may offer extra perks such as an in-suite jacuzzi. The pools are what this resort is notable for. Regardless of your age, there is a pool atmosphere here that is appropriate for you. While the staff remain attentive and try their best to accomodate to your needs, be advised that the check-in process can be relatively lengthy.

Overview

Riu Palace Peninsula is located next to the Riu Caribe on a dazzling stretch of white sand beach, framed by tropical vegetation and crystal clear turquoise water. This Riu Palace luxury resort features seven specialty restaurants with wonderful cuisine ranging from Japanese to Italian to Mexican, six bars, water sports, two freshwater pools (one heated in the winter and the second with a Jacuzzi and swim-up bar) daily entertainment and an on-site Mayan ruin discovered during the hotel construction.

The spacious and luxurious guestrooms include predominantly white decor with vibrant accents as well as signature RIU amenities, including the famous Riu liquor dispenser. Soak in hydro massage tubs large enough for two and admire the spectacular views from your private balcony. Revel in a variety of land and water sports as well as fun activities. The RiuLand Kids Club will keep children entertained with supervised games, while the new RiuArt program will help you discover your inner artist. For an extra treat, indulge in pampering treatments at the Renova Spa.

Location: Beachfront in Cancun's hotel zone, 10 min to downtown, 45 min from the airport.

Five out of Five!

I love the beach, so I go to Cancun almost every summer, and I always choose all-inclusive resorts in the Hotel Zone. I think all-inclusive hotels are still a great deal, regardless of higher airfares or the economy. This time, we were looking for a Fall Break getaway, and I found a good rate for the Riu Palace Peninsula hotel (my wife and I stayed for 5 days / 4 nights). This was our first stay at this hotel, and we enjoyed every minute of our vacation. The level of service from management and staff was excellent.HOTEL: The hotel was built about six or seven years ago, so it is fairly new by Cancun standards, and was in excellent condition overall. The hotel was very clean, and we frequently saw employees cleaning, painting, and tending to the landscaping. We did notice some cracked tiles on the hallway floors and in the pool, but this did not affect anything overall.ROOMS: All the rooms at this hotel face either north or east, and all rooms have a view of the ocean. Our room was on the 3rd floor, with a beautiful view of the ocean and pool. The room also had a flat-screen TV, and free use of the in-room safe. FYI, almost all of the TV channels were in Spanish. There is a small refrigerator in the room, and it is stocked with water, soda, and beer. There is also a dispenser in the room with premium brand liquors. There was an overhead fan in the room, and the AC worked fine.STAFF: The staff was polite and professional. Almost every staff member I passed greeted me.FOOD: The food was excellent in the buffet and also excellent in the premium restaurants. We had dinner at the Italian, Seafood, and Steak premium restaurants. Note: At this hotel, it is not necessary to reserve a dinner time at the premium restaurants. We only waited a minute or two at the premium restaurants to be seated. BARS: The drinks were very good (we always ordered premium brands like Bacardi or Absolut). We usually had no trouble ordering drinks, just tell the bartenders what you want and they will make it for you, and they will usually remember what you drink. The swim-up bar was not busy in the morning or early afternoon (“Jose” was our favorite bartender). There is a walk-up bar near the pool/beach that was open all day long. The lobby bar was not too busy, even at night, and we usually got served immediately. As always, I recommend tipping for better service.POOLS: The pools were very nice—there are FIVE pools at this hotel, so we had no trouble finding lounge chairs. There is a nice swim-up bar at one of the smaller pools. There are screened areas and umbrellas near the pools for those of us who want some protection from the sun. Great pool staff and fun entertainment every day at the main pool. Kids can play in the main pools, or there is a kids’ club for younger ones to do fun activities. The hotel does have a poolside buffet in the afternoon, which was very convenient, especially when you are starving but still dripping wet from a swim.BEACH: The ocean and beach area were fine, and the sand and water were very nice. FYI, this is not one of the best beaches in the Cancun hotel zone. There IS a nice sandy beach, but the beach is more rocky here than at some of the other hotels. The staff would rake and sweep the sand by the beach each morning to clean up seaweed and litter. We did see some vendors on the beach, but they were not pushy.ENTERTAINMENT: The hotel had good evening entertainment, and shows were different each night. The entertainment didn't start until 9:45 PM.ETC: This hotel is located on the north end of the Hotel Zone. You can take the city bus for about one US dollar and get to almost anywhere in Cancun. The shopping areas are very close. The busses don’t have AC, but it’s still not a bad ride. We almost never use a taxi in Cancun. The tap water in Cancun is treated and is safe to drink, but we still took water bottles when we went to the pool or the beach.Once more, I would like to mention that even though many hotels here are completely "all-inclusive", I always bring $100 or more in US $1 and $5 bills for tipping the waiters and housekeeping staff. I find that I get better service and I hope makes a small difference for the people in Mexico who work hard for much less dough than we make in the US.Overall, this is an excellent hotel, one of the best of the dozen or so I have stayed at in Cancun. I would HIGHLY recommend this hotel to friends.Note: I booked this trip through AAvacations and had great service from that website.

Sister Vacation

My sisters and I (three of us) stayed at the Palace Peninsula in the first week of October. This was my sisters first time at an all inclusive resort, and they loved every minute of it (as did I)!!HUGE shout out to the two lovely gentlemen working our table for the buffet. We saw them every day for almost every meal, and they were so kind to us the entire time! The food, as you can expect, was typical all inclusive - nothing to really write home about but also satisfying! We did try some restaurants - the steak house, the Italian restaurant and the Japanese restaurant. The steak house was decent, but if we went back we would probably just stick to the buffet - consistent and doesn't disappoint. Our trip was absolutely wonderful, and we couldn't have asked for friendlier staff. Cleanliness was amazing. Absolutely no complaints!

Best hotel I've stayed in 100%

This hotel I give 150% . The hotel is highly rated, the staff are very nurturing, caring, kind, polite and a joy to be around. We had a ocean view room with a Jacuzzi it was an absolutely beautiful room. The food was so lovely, so much to pick from, the cleanliness and hygiene was immaculate. I myself is the most fussy person your ever meet and have been told I have OCD but let me tell you, you could eat OFF this hotel's floor. I will without a doubt definately be returning to this hotel. Thank you to all the staff that we have had contact with it was a pleasure sharing my 7 nights with you all. A class holiday....

Great hotel

Just started our stay at this hotel we arrived on the 17th of October, our room is lovely so is the beach and pool. But our only let down was as we came back to the room after a day out we found that our mini bar was not refilled. This was a little bit disappointing as we had to ring to get our drinks we hope this does not continue yours sincerely the Appleby's

Fabulous hotel

If you are without children the adult villas are a must. Very clean facility, rooms were roomy and comfortable. Bartenders were amazing. Food is to be exoected - same as cruises but the Steak House was fantastic. Fridge, bar stocked daily. A family of 4 could get in the shower at the same time! Lots of entertainment nightly and the pools were amazing. We spent time on the beach as well. The foam party was a lot of fun. Zero complaints! Would definitely recommend!
