Our Opinion

An outstanding hotel to visit when you're in Cancun. Compared to the other resorts, the Riu Palace Peninsula is a bit larger than other resorts that you would find along the hotel zone. Great a la carte and buffet items to choose from here. The variety of food here is incredible. It can be guaranteed that you'll never experience the same thing twice when dining in a restaurant. Compared to most other all-inclusive resorts, the quality of food here is good. The resort grounds are always clean and well-maintained. While the majority of the rooms are pretty good, the special suites have a tendency to be cramped. They may offer extra perks such as an in-suite jacuzzi. The pools are what this resort is notable for. Regardless of your age, there is a pool atmosphere here that is appropriate for you. While the staff remain attentive and try their best to accomodate to your needs, be advised that the check-in process can be relatively lengthy.

Overview

Riu Palace Peninsula is located next to the Riu Caribe on a dazzling stretch of white sand beach, framed by tropical vegetation and crystal clear turquoise water. This Riu Palace luxury resort features seven specialty restaurants with wonderful cuisine ranging from Japanese to Italian to Mexican, six bars, water sports, two freshwater pools (one heated in the winter and the second with a Jacuzzi and swim-up bar) daily entertainment and an on-site Mayan ruin discovered during the hotel construction.

The spacious and luxurious guestrooms include predominantly white decor with vibrant accents as well as signature RIU amenities, including the famous Riu liquor dispenser. Soak in hydro massage tubs large enough for two and admire the spectacular views from your private balcony. Revel in a variety of land and water sports as well as fun activities. The RiuLand Kids Club will keep children entertained with supervised games, while the new RiuArt program will help you discover your inner artist. For an extra treat, indulge in pampering treatments at the Renova Spa.

Location: Beachfront in Cancun's hotel zone, 10 min to downtown, 45 min from the airport.

Easiest way to get Away

My fiancee and I stayed here for a week and had an absolutely amazing time. It was only a 3 hour flight from Washington D.C. and a direct flight from Dulles. From the very beginning, our travel agent (Mitch at TripGuy.com) provided a transfer for getting from the airport to the hotel and gave us a welcome bag (including tequila ^_^). The hotel itself was just beautiful and had stunning views on both sides, one side being the bay and one being the gulf. The hotel staff were awesome. They all spoke English but if I wanted to try my rusty Spanish, they would all oblige. Special shoutout to my favorite bartender Diego in the hotel lobby for being friendly and being able to make a million drinks an hour by himself. The food was ridiculous. I never actually felt hungry after the 2nd day or so because we ate so much but the variety at every meal was insane. I couldn't help but eat a ton. I was surprised I didn't get sick at all, because I had heard horror stories about drinking the water and raw vegetables in Mexico but, at least at this resort, my fears were unfounded. The drinks were all full strength too, which is one thing I appreciated. I have been at all-inclusives before where the bartenders appear to hate tourists and the drinks were all pre-mixed or just made weakly. This place couldn't be further from that. I never tested how far the wait staff would go, but I suspect that if I asked for a tall glass of straight Don Julio resposado (although I don't know why anyone would do that to themselves), they would probably give it to me.Only con I can think of was that there were tons of people on the beach (unrelated to the resort, I guess the beach is public) trying to sell merchandise, but they generally stopped asking after a while. Also, there was some party boat (also unrelated to the resort) that just sort of circled around the waters next to the resort and played crappy music all night. It only woke me up once though.Highly recommend this place.

GREAT PLACE, LOVED OUR HOLIDAY!!

Having not visited Mexico before I was unsure what to expect.Firstly Immigration forms to complete during the flight which is fine, but don't put it to one side for later as one of the forms will require individual registration if you are not marriedthe. Thomson didn't have any spares when asked for and long queues once you land and are inside the airport.Once through and on your way, the open back trucks with mounted machines guns are more worrying initially until you get used to seeing them more. The hotel is brilliant, room was good for us, loved the optics and space - which is quite important when you have a few days of heavy rain. Most of the staff cannot do enough for you. We both found the tea/coffee area hit and miss with the service and warmth of drinks.Food was mostly good, although I have to say the smoothie counter at breakfast is amazing. I'm quite fussy but managed to find enough to eat that I liked during all meal times. The entertainment team led by Linda are amazing, I loved the music and games, everyday they work delivers incredible fun. Well done, it can't be easy some days but you managed it nonetheless.Stayed for 2 weeks from 17 Oct - 31st Oct 2017. It rained more than we expected but it was still really warm. Visit to Coco Bonga is well worth the money! So glad we went, great experience - don't worry about dressing up and wear comfy shoes.Buses run frequently, we left around 2.40am and got a bus back no problems, also spoke to people who stayed until the end (4am) and also no probs with getting a bus.Could have done with another week. Would I go back - Yes absoluteMy only moan is the tour company 'TUI' they are becoming less than good tour company. A few years back I used to praise them but my last few holiday flights have not been a very pleasurable experience to say the least!Flight to Mexico was on a Dreamliner - I used the washroom just after the seatbelt sign went off. The washroom was disgusting and I mean disgusting, not just because of misuse, but because it looked like it hadn't been cleaned in anyway shape or form for many weeks, absolutely gross. I was sat in the extra legroom seats and mentioned it to the lady next to me, who once had been herself totally agreed.

Fabulous Hotel

Myself & my partner spent 2 weeks here and loved every minute. Our room was amazing with a beautiful sea view. The room was cleaned daily to a very high standard. Wherever we went in the hotel there was staff cleaning, the whole place was spotless. We ate mostly in the main restaurant as the food was excellent, plenty of choice and very friendly waiting staff, especially at dinner when we always chose to sit in the area run by Max, who contributed to our fantastic holiday along with all the entertainment staff round the pool, who soon learned our names and included us in all the activities. There’s plenty to do in the hotel zone which is a 5 min bus ride away and where you’ll find all the best shops, bars and clubs, coco bongos is a must visit we had a blast. Downtown Cancún is a lot different, it’s all market stalls a little shabby & dirty, you can’t walk 50 yards without being hassled to buy something. We had a brilliant holiday from start to finish and would definitely recommend this hotel.

Highly Recommend!!

We stayed here for our honeymoon. The first night was a little rough as the alarm kept going off due to "someone pulling it". That's what I was told from the front desk. Other than that we loved it!!! The staff work hard and have great customer service. Always made us feel like family. Restaurants are good but I enjoyed the buffet the most. Lots of options and the food was good. Rooms are nice and clean and very spacious. Bed was very comfortable and roomy. We are definitely going back! Highly recommend!

Excellent, fun time! Great entertainment and activities

Food is spectacular! You don't need a reservation for the restaurants, just a 5 or 10 minute wait. Rooms are wonderful, but a little cheesy with purple glass blocks in the shower. Super comfortable bed. Awesome views from the balcony.Excellent service from everyone. Staff is eager to please. Very upset with Lucero the Expedia local rep. We went on a Mayan adventures (Zip lines, ATV's and snorkeling in a cave) excursion and she told us it was 30 minutes away. It was actually 3 hours away! 6 hours in a van! I would not have gone had we known. We were really mad she lied to us.We did not like the ATV it was hard to control the vehicle and very bumpy and dusty.
