Our Opinion

The Royal Solaris Cancun is a great place to stay for both families and couples alike. While the atmosphere caters more to couples, the resort has an amazing kids club that is perfect for families. There are decent a la cart and buffet items to choose from at this resort. The grounds are well maintained. While the rooms appear older than what you'd experience at an all-inclusive, they are still well maintained. The gym area though does need a little bit of an upgrade. Great staff here. They ensure that you're getting the most out of your trip. Be advised that this resort does not offer free Wi-Fi.

Family gathering on the beach.

Our extended family of 12 spent a week at the Royal Solaris Feb. 18-25 2017.We had all been to the Mayan Riveria numerous times but this was the first time we had turned left after leaving the Cancun Airport. A very convenient feature is that it was only a 15 minute trip from the airport and our Hotel was the first stop. So much more convenient than the over 1 hour trips to the resort zone south of Playa Del Carmen. The check-in was quick and convenient, however we were toured around the resort by a fellow who ended up wanting us to listen to his time share spiel. After a quick delivery of our bags we made it to dinner. The buffet has loads of variety and we never had to wait more than a minute to be seated for breakfast or dinner. The service at the buffet, beach side restaurant, pizza station and swim up bar was always great. The ladies at the Omelet and Pancake stations are amazing! As this resort is narrow, the walk to the beach is less than a minute from your room and we had no problem finding enough lounge chairs at 10 AM. Lounge chairs around the pools was a bit tougher but we were a beach crew so no big deal. The Marco Polo restaurant was worth making a reservation for, we were there for Italian Night and it was great, the Shish Kebab night at the Beach Restaurant was a bit disappointing. Pizza was fantastic as was the vegetables at the beach restaurant. Almost seemed like the lobby bar was an afterthought? Good service and drinks but a small seating area that was poorly lit. The shows were very well done, with a drink service that was quicker than I thought possible.

Fun atmosphere - fun for all ages

Lots of activities around the pool kept everyone entertained. The covered areas on the beach made it great for us beach goers who are not sun seekers. The food was good and plentiful - something for everyone. The staff was constantly cleaning and worked hard. The evening shows were fun. Drinks were plentiful and the servers were quite busy with spring breakers but never seemed to deal with them gracefully. Great all-inclusive. Our first but not our last.

Great Hotel and Staff

Great Hotel. The staff are very hard workers that try to make everything perfect. We never had to wait more than five minutes for someone to come by and ask us if we wanted a drink. Drinks were all good. Albert server in Las Fuentes restaurant made our dinning experience fabulous. All 3 restaurants had great food. 10 minutes from airport. Can take taxi either way for $25. They did not push any timeshares stuff either. Overall, My wife and I loved this place and the staff.

Tip for family with young children

We stay in this hotel from Mar 10 to 17 during March break.Group size: 8 (4 adults, 3 Grade 3-5 kids, 1 one-year-old)This hotel is small compared to others we had been to in the past. However, it met our needs in most aspects. Restaurants, pools, beach, mini club, baby park, beach and our room are all in within 5 minutes walking distance. The WIFI is NOT free. We opted out internet for a week, and we survived! We discovered many other things to do without internet. The mini club pool is the only *heated* pool in the hotel. Kids will appreciate warmer water in the morning. The animal and ark theme was so welcoming. Our kids loved the mini club. There was an incident when our one-year-old slipped under water after sliding down with our 9-year-old kid, the lady on duty whistled and another guest by the pool jumped in and pulled him up. It happened on our Day 1 PM after a tiring traveling since 2am, I didn’t manage to get the lady’s name. I hope the hotel management will find her so that she will get the credit of making sure the safety of the children in the pool. Note: We forgot our 1-year-old’s life jacket in our room, the incident happened when my wife went back to pick it up.The daily shows in the evening were at the theatre at 8.30pm and last only 45 mins which was perfect for the little ones. Our favorite show was the comedy. It was highly entertaining and suitable for children. We have one kid who only wants to drink 7-Up. The Sprite is not an option for her. The restaurant only serves Sprite. The good thing is that there is one 7-Up in our minibar in the room. We brought the 7-Up for her with us. The housekeeping will refill the one 7-Up the next day. In Day 4, I wrote a note that I need two 7-Up, and I got 2 after the room cleaning. Then, the housekeeping lady remembered two 7-Up on the next 2 remaining days. Bravo on that! The El Rey ruins are a 15 minutes walk away. It was 50 peso per person. We went there in the morning to avoid the heat, and tried our best to stay in the shades in our way there. Our kids didn’t seems to enjoy the ruins. We did 30 minutes of kayaking/paddle boat in the lagoon on our way back from the ruin. The bus was very convenient and stopped right in front of the resort. It costs $1 or 11 peso. They will pick you up in front of the hotel. Bus is passing our hotel like every 5 minutes. It was very convenient even though we were travelling with 4 kids, carrying our life jackets and snorkeling gears.Photo stop: We did not know this until our fourth day. If you want to take photos with the big colorful “CANCUN” letters and the ocean behind you, walk along the hallway beside sushi bar. Next to the sign, there is a baby park. There are play structures suitable for our toddler. The waves was rough all week long. The wave literally pulled my 1-year-old into water when it hit the beach. We were on high alert and made sure he was nowhere near the water whenever we were on the beach. We spent half a day in Playa Turtogas beach. Nothing spectacular, but the water was calm and safe for our kids. There were vendors selling food in the beach. We saw a Mexican family on the beach purchased the local food “tipees” (fried dough with onions filling). It was 20 peso. We tried it, and it was so good with the Mexican hot sauce. Our boy loved it that we bought another 2 after that.To go to Isla Mujeres, you can take ferry from Playa Caracol Or Playa Turtogas. It is US$19/person round trip. (If paying in peso, it will be based on the currency exchange that day.). We have a group of 8. We went with a private boat tour from the beach in Isla Mujeres. That gave us some flexibility travelling with 4 kids. The service was a 5-star service from Richardo. We asked the boat to drop us at the North Beach after the tour. The water was shallow and very suitable for the kids. Don't forget to bring your snorkeling gears. There was a lot of fish near the rocks next to MIA hotel. Our kids loved the North Beach where they enjoyed catching small fish.(Although they didn’t manage to catch any.) Our kids voted the trip to Isla Mujeres to be the best day of our vacation. They only offer milk at Marco Polo and the buffet restaurant. To solve the milk problem for our 1-year-old, I filled up milk with empty water bottle from the self-serve milk beverage machine at the buffet restaurant every evening. I kept the milk the fridge in our room and kept it in our small cooler bag with ice while we are at the pool/beach area.Best things to bring:1. Life jacket for our 1-year-old. He wanted to wear it and jumped into the pool. It also gave us a peace of mind whenever he was dancing and wandering around the pool area. 2. Snorkeling gears. Glad we brought it to the North Beach in Isla Mujeres.3. Walkie talkie. Nice to have. We used it a couple of time to stay connected. For example, when our 1-year-old had a nap while other kids wanted other activity. 4. Waterproof bandaid. Small detail like this will put a smile back to a kid who get a tiny small cut.Best staffMarco Polo: AlbertoBeach Restaurant: BatonBuffet Restaurant: AlbertPizza station: 2 hard working ladiesBogavante: DavidMini Club: All staff, especial the lady who whistled when our one-year-old slipped under water after sliding down with another older kid.Front desk: MaribelConcierge: AbigailHousekeeping: The lady who remembered the two 7-Up in room 1519.Best show: Comedy show (Sun Mar 12)2 recommendations to the hotel:1. Sushi bar was obviously understaffed during the week we were there. We heard other guests complained about it too. Often stopped taking order for 10 minutes for food preparation. 2. Buffet restaurant: Please place bowls instead of small plates beside the yogurt bar during breakfast time. We had to walk across to the soup station to get the bowl. Not a big problem but small details will make your guests love this hotel even more. :-)

Spring Break, family vacation, ages 8 to 69

March 17th-23rd. Our group of 13 enjoyed every minute of our 6 night stay. Food: We ate at Las Fuentes buffet AM & PM, we tried a wee bit of most everything, & went back for more of what we liked, and no one went hungry. Hey, you’re in Mexico, try it, you’ll like it! We don’t do salt, but do use pepper, just not the same as the US no matter how much we used. The pool side food stations were our mid-day snack. Go to the pizza station & watch them make it fresh. Drinks: All that we tried were delicious & came one right after another. Yes, they were a little watered down, but, if they were not - no one would make it till noon & still be standing! Pool: A little cool, but refreshing, the afternoons get very hot. Bring a hat & plenty of sunscreen down each day! Security: Was visible, but kept distance - have fun, we are here if you need us. We saw them intervene once, in the dark, a couple of guys who could hardly stand from drinking all day were in the ocean, in the strong undercurrent & they were told to get out. Kudos to security or we have been there all night watching those 2 clowns to be sure they didn’t drown! Rooms: We had the lagoon side, no balconies, but very spacious. Those with 3 in a room had ample storage space. Wet swimsuits were challenging to dry for the next day, but, we all had at least 2 suits, so one dried while we wore the other. The beds are firm, no marshmallow pillow tops, but at ages 63 & 69 we slept great. Coffee: We are avid coffee drinkers & need our early morning 100% Colombian. Coffee was not as bad as we feared from other posters, early morning coffee in Las Fuentes it is pretty good, goes downhill as day goes on. All decaf is instant. The 2 coffee packets in our room each morning was pretty good, we used all bottled water in the (4-cup) coffee maker. Our group of 13 drank only bottled water the entire time & not one of us got sick, the Imodium we brought was never used. Kids Club: The 8 & 9 year old girls didn’t spend as much time in there as we thought they would, couple hours the 1st few days. They played mostly in the pool in the area where we were in pool side deck loungers, where all the action was. Hotel accommodations: Thank you Rosa Arias!!!! By email, she arranged for our FIVE rooms - to be next to each other. This was very important to us as a family vacation. We know this was not an easy task during busy spring break! Great job Rosa! The entire staff was wonderful. When you visit please keep an eye out for: Las Fuentes/waiter, Estefano. Las Fuentes/Omelet Station, Margarita. Pool side drinks/Eddy & Christian. Our maid/Mary Carrillo. Tell them we said “Hi from Green Bay, WI & we will be back!
