Our Opinion

Amazing resort to stay at in Cancun. The beach around this area is spectacular. However, be advised that the waves have a tendency to be really choppy and strong. It isn't advisable to swim around this area. Overall though the location of this resort is great. It's within close vicinity of the downtown core where there are shops and restaurants close by. The service in this resort varied. While the staff within the resort property are proactive in ensuring that you are getting what you need, the staff outside are not as attentive with their guests (although they still assist you, the service outside is a bit slower). The food options here are great. Both a la cartes and buffet items had a great variety.

Christmas Vacation

We ended up at this resort two days before our scheduled, previously planned resort in Playa de Carmen. Thank you to Orbitz and their wonderful "accommodation relocation" department. The conditions at the newly opened resort we originally booked were unacceptable and completed misrepresented. Again, thanks to Orbitz for their wonderful customer service. 👍🏻We had a choice of four-star resorts to choose from, per Orbitz, and we chose this one since we know this stretch of beach and it's location and also obviously based on reviews. Staff here is 100% all across the board, although we didn't have turn down service two nights in a row but that's not enough for me to even complain about:) We were placed in an ocean view room facing the pools, third floor. Great views except for the "things" on our balcony. The condition of the balcony was very poor and depressing. We are ones who LOVE coffee and breakfast on the balcony every morning, and it just wasn't going to be happening in this room. Couple other items in the room were completely depressing.....you will see by my pictures. Good news after all this.....we decided as a family that there has got to be something better available, and was able to look at a few suites on 7th and 8th floor that would become available next day. Let me just say, well worth paying the difference and upgrading! Really made our stay much more enjoyable accommodation wise. Again, see pics. If you are fussy travelers like us, do yourself a favor ahead of time and book a suite. Bottom line, lobby bar felt rather enclosed and gloomy, although decorated really nice. The patio/balcony off the lobby bar has nice sofas, coffee tables and hammock swings which all seemed to be under-utilized and would suggest much more service out there, drink and snack menus, etc. This was one of our favorite sitting areas, but something is lacking. Breakfast buffet - our least favorite food and selections of the week. From an American point of view, not one piece of bacon or sausage in six days to be seen. Beautifully decorated though. Fortunately for our large, beautiful terrace on the 8th floor, we had room service every morning and simply enjoyed that the most, even minus the bacon 😀We had lunch every day at the pool restaurant - highlight of our stay, really. Service, view, food, view, and view! Perfection all the way around. Too bad they aren't open throughout the evening or even at night. Would be a great place to have a drink under the stars and listen to the sea vs being inside the lobby bar. (The only place on property to "hang out" at night before and after dinner). Although an employee did tell us that the pool restaurant is slated to be a seafood restaurant open at night in the near future. The Italian restaurant and steak house were excellent, hibachi our least favorite. Food seemed a bit under-seasoned and chicken was so tough that it was inedible. We didn't say anything - just ate what we could. The veggies, rice and shrimp were great. Just a bad night for the chicken possibly. We went off property to two of our favorite restaurants in the hotel zone and utilized Uber, which just came to the area three months ago. Was less than $2 USD to get a ride to Trattoria Limoncello, and then since Porfirio's is across the street, we just walked. Gym was fine but tennis courts are horrible. Seems like an old parking lot painted like a court, cracks everywhere. Being a tennis family, we were sorely disappointed. Sandos Cancun Luxury Resort is in a great location, one of the best beaches we have ever been to. We have stayed at neighboring resorts i.e. Ritz and the JW, and up the zone a little bit at Hyatt Ziva. Sandos Cancun is a nice, smaller resort, definitely something to be said for a smaller property. If you are ok with a four star property and knowing that some things need to be updated, then you will not be disappointed. Hope this helps some travelers, and enjoy your vacation!

Staff caters to guests, hotel and beach amazing! A few disappointments...

We were met at the entrance with champagne, rose and a fresh towel, everyone smiling. We were checked in or room early, within minutes. We WERE approached and taken to the lounge by the concierge before we could go to our room, where he tried to talk us into the breakfast meeting about the premium resort timeshare but we told him we weren't interested and that was that. I was disappointed our room had no balcony, only a window that opened to allow us to lean out. We also had no king bed. I went down and was told because of our "status" we couldn't have a balcony. They did have two other King rooms that she took me to, to see but I liked the view from the first one. We had lunch, which was ok. Dinner in the steakhouse was ok, and got sick that night frm the steak tartare! But the servers and hostesses were amazing! We saw two guests who made a big stink about where the hostess sat them and the maitre d came and killed them with kindness. Dinner at the hibachi was good, very fun! Service at the pool and beach was the best! Everyone there so attentive! They all remembered our names and what we were drinking. Top shelf available if you ask, drinks strong. The beach and pool area impeccable, we always got a lounge with pillows for a few extra dollars. We tipped EVERYmeal and drink! It's just basic thank-you'S for a job well done. Will be back next year!

We only stayed two days , but will definitely return to this lovely hotel.

From the moment you step through the door your sandos luxury experience begins , flute of prosecco in one hand and red rose in the other we were sat down by a lovely lady who told us everything we needed to know about our stay with them. We only stayed two days because we were going to Tulum , but those first two days of our trip remain fixed in my memory as very special . When we walked on the beach for the first time my mouth dropped open , I have never seen such beautiful turquoise sea and white fluffy waves and the beach beds were lovely. We did have a problem the first night sleeping because of the noise of a giant air conditioner outside of our room which made it impossible to sleep. The next day we were promptly upgraded to the penthouse suite as an apology . The food and service was excellent . One day we hope to return.

Nice Hotel

The Cancun beach is beautiful. No matter where you stay in the Hotel Zone, you will be able to enjoy the beautiful beach so just keep that in mind when booking. Here are the pros and cons of Sandos Resort, based on our recent travel:PROS:- Some of the staff are excellent. Isidro in Seasons was phenomenal. He served us an excellent dinner each evening and we even requested to have him as our server the following nights. He is a professional and really stands above the rest in terms of providing hospitality. Seydi at the front desk is also excellent. She showed us wonderful hospitality during our stay and we were thankful she was there. Sergio in Bar #1 is clearly a professional mixologist. He definitely poured us the most wonderful drinks and was so friendly to talk to as well. We very much appreciated his high-quality service in Bar #1 each night and we would go down to see him. -Wide food selection with healthy options. St. Trop has the best lunch and the waitstaff are solid- go out there for a wide ranging menu including healthy and unhealthy options. Tipping well will definitely get you noticed more quickly as you might expect. For Dinner, check out Seasons or the Italian Grill, we had excellent meals there each night. We didn't try the Japanese but the workers there seemed very friendly and welcoming. If possible, avoid the buffet. It's mediocre at best and one night when we first arrived, it was pretty much inedible. -The Gym: Excellent Gym, everything you could possibly need for a full workout. -The Spa: Excellent Spa, do the couples massage. They will put you through a Scandinavian bath sequence beforehand, it was really awesome! -The room: We had a beautiful room on the 8th floor with wonderful views of the beach and the lagoon. Request high floors and even numbers. CONS:- We had fun, but we simply didn't experience the same intimate feeling and hospitality of Puerto Vallarta. We felt like one of a thousand at this resort and maybe that is because it was Cancun and is a larger resort. Aside from a few key staff members listed above (Isidro, Seydi, & Sergio), we didn't feel connected with the resort at all. Also, the resort seems to attract some snobby customers who come off as rude. Overall, many of the guests were less "down to earth" than our previous experiences in Mexico on the Western side. -The two top pools are completely in the shade by 2pm due to the enormous size of Secrets (right next door). We didn't go in these pools once due to the shade and because they are not heated (i.e. they are cold!) - The hot tubs did not work. They were cold both in the pool area and in the spa. - Getting a cabana on the beach between 10am - 3pm is nearly impossible. Not enough seating for customers. Had to lay towels on the sand. Overall we had a pleasant stay. The hotel is nice and the beach is beautiful. We give it 4/5 starts due to some of the cons given the price of staying here and the spotty hospitality which is usually what makes a 5 star resort 5 stars. We had fun but we probably won't be back. It just didn't leave us dying to return and maybe it's because we just didn't feel connected with the place.

Don't waste your money

This place will initially act like they care but all they care about is selling you a time share. The wait staff try hard as well as the activity directors, but management staff and front desk is awful. Food is awful, it's always cold and the only way to stomach breakfast is to get an omelet. Seasons steakhouse is the worst. My scallops were not cooked and I'm not sure my husband's steak was steak actually. They tried to pass off a chocolate muffin as a cake- awful!!!Room was ok, but air conditioner was either too hot or too cold. Bar was ok. Drinks were average tasting for open bar. We tried to tip staff who put forth an effort but overall if we would not have gotten the trip for a promo, I would be highly upset to pay what they ask.
