Our Opinion

One of the best resorts to stay at in Cancun. Secrets the Vine is a resort that continuously gets the thumbs-up by guests everywhere. Though it's open to most travelers, the atmosphere and ambiance of this resort caters more to couples and older clientele. This resort scores high on all elements. The grounds are immaculate and kept clean. The rooms are elegant yet modern, and stocked daily. The food options here are limitless. The buffet items give plenty of variety each day and there are plenty of a la carte restaurants to choose from. The a la carte items are also one of the best in quality found on the strip. The staff go above and beyond to ensure that you're getting the most out of your stay. They are also relatively transparent in what they're doing. It can be guaranteed that you'll see the General Manager wandering around the hotel grounds to ensure that guests are happy. A highly recommended resort in Cancun!

Best Hospitality

The hotel is beautiful, modern, and on a gorgeous beach. The rooms are large and comfortable. All good with that. What makes Secrets The Vine special is the staff. Wow, friendly at every turn. Check in, Chris at VIP desk, coffee shop, the pool staff and honestly everyone else. Not usually a buffet fan, but the Market Cafe buffet for breakfast and lunch was my favorite dining option. So many dishes to choose from, and all delicious. Adult only, great option for couples or singles looking to relax.

Nice, quiet resort

For couples and people looking to relax. The NYE party was fun, however, it’s not a resort to visit if you’re looking to party. Was very clean and staff was friendly. The walls are thin, so it was hard to sleep with people going in/out of their rooms late and night or early. Food was decent, but still resort quality. I recommend the Italian restaurant and steak house. Snorkeling excursion booked through the hotel was great and very worth it.

Great all inclusive

My wife was interested in doing an adults only all inclusive. I have to say this was not exactly at the top of my list. All inclusive resorts often have a good amount of mediocrity involved. Well that was not the case. This is a great resort. The service was excellent, the rooms were terrific, and the food was outstanding. We were very pleased.

Better than a 4 - not q-u-i-t-e a 5

KNOW before you GO.Personally, I am not a fan of all-inclusive.While this type of travel is not my cup of tea, I will give credit where credit is due, because they (mostly) earned it, so, let’s get to it !If you are one of my followers, you’ll know that I am a big fan of individuality, atmosphere and creativity; in fact, if you look at my review last year of Terrenea, you saw my main lament was the feel of the place - the architecture, left much to be desired on that score - I believe I said that it had no “soul”.There, as here, the architecture is plain, unimaginative. I was most shocked at how some of the buildings are adorned with lush, tropical landscape, while others were very plain; I don’t spend 500+ per night for “plain”.THAT being said, it may be your cup of tea, and, if so, you’ll have a wonderful time here, with some (few) exceptions.First, know that the resort is (mostly) spotless (see below); it is VERY VERY safe, secluded behind guarded doors.Problem is, that it’s Riviera Maya, so, outside the walls, there’s not much to do; for that, you need to drive around 30-45 minutes, but, DO know that you can stay within the walls and have an exceptional time...especially if you’re going primarily for rest and romance. It is adults only (thank goodness), and, more so, they give you a choice as to how much interaction you want to have with others. The main pool is lively...VERY lively. Couples, groups, and drinking. (Know that there is a bar seemingly every 10 feet) Music piped in, and lots to do - they make sure you have a wide array of activities (beach volleyball, pool volleyball, Texas Hold’em - for fun, not money)If you’re not into sharing your time with others, there are pools which cater mostly to the building you are in - these pools are smaller, intimate , MUCH quieter and, like their big brother, beautifully tiled.Problem is, while they claim that the pools are heated, I saw no evidence of that - it was disappointing, since the ocean this time of year is in the high 70's - even the (large) hot tub, was m-a-y-b-y 83; again, disappointing. Many complained.Another thing about the pools - almost all of them have ocean views and look like infinity pools - VERY well thought out ! (in fact, when they give you a “pool view” room, you almost always have at least a partial ocean view as well, and it’s a lot more than a sliver of ocean - kudos to the design layout team. The rooms: VERY well apportioned. Modern. Beautiful. You simply cant go wrong here and there is absolutely nothing to complain about - you WILL love the rooms. Jacuzzi bathtub, VERY large shower with great (multiple rainwater heads); extremely comfortable beds. The food: Ok, well, MANY MANY food choices...and all of them were first rate. Room service available 24hrs, just know that to go into ANY food venue, men must be in long pants and a button down shirt - NO sandals, no flip-flops...and it IS enforced. I have no problem with this. The ONE issue I had with the fine dining, is that, of the 5 meals we took, in THREE of them, we were seated at a table with a FILTHY (and I do mean filthy) table cloth. The first time it happened, I was forgiving; the second, I was upset - the third time, I was livid and brought it to the management’s attention - the response was that they knew of the ongoing problem and were working on it. Huh ? I’m not sure what’s worse - them being clue-less...or them knowing but unable to stop it - in either case, I felt like they were trying to get me to eat on a pigsty. Of course, they remedied it, but, at 500/nt., this is simply unacceptable. This issue was, by FAR, the most disappointing of the stay. The HIGHLIGHT of the stay was, without a doubt, the staff. These people, be they waiters, check-in/out staff, maids, bartenders, etc., were, without a doubt, the best trained I have ever come across. You want something ? ANYTHING ?? They not only get it for you, but make sure you are happy. You say “thank you” - they say “with pleasure” AND THEY MEAN IT !I cant say enough about the staff - they were that amazing.Other things: Night activities, water activities - they had it all (big screen projectors for the football games and movies) Aerobics classes, gym.If you want a private dinner on the beach ? You got it !Breakfast, lunch, dinner delivered to you at the room OR at your pool or beachside lounge chair ? Just ask - they got you covered. So, in closing:HAD the pools been warm and had the tablecloth issue not presented itself, this could be a world class resort. (The architecture and spotty landscaping notwithstanding).Secrets caters to an older crowd (say, 50's 60's), but MANY younger, but, if you want younger (and less formalities), perhaps a “Dreams” resort would do you better.Me ? Personally ? I like the freedom of walking out over the town and choosing what and where I want to eat, and to have a much more authentic experience, and maybe a bit less formal, but that is strictly a personal thing - that should NOT deter you from this place. They are rated as “4-diamond”; however, that should not factor into your decision because a 4-diamond in one country may not be so in another. LOOK at the pictures. (They ARE accurate) READ these reviews. While not “flawless”, I rate it much better than “very good”. Perhaps just “south” of “excellent”....but oh, so so close. You will have a great time here.

Fantastic Holiday!

We visited Secrets The Vine during Xmas and New Years and it did not disappoint. (Well not much anyways) From the arrival greeted with champagne to check out, everything or at least almost everything was fantastic. Rooms: We had the Honeymoon Suite and WOW. Huge rooms with two walls that open up almost completely to an enormous balcony. We had issues with the air conditioning. It wouldn't get cool at first and after 3 days they finally fixed it but then we couldn't get it warm. It was either bake or freeze. We chose to freeze. The shower is insane. Great water pressure with 2 rain fall shower heads and room for 8 people at least. There is TONS of storage for all of your belongings. Beds are ultra comfy. Food: Like other reviews mention, the food is good. I wouldn't say it's fantastic. Some of it was, but it lacked some high end choices I'd normally expect at a five star. The desserts although looked wonderful, didn't taste as they looked. I never had a single dessert in the 11 days we were there that I actually liked. The service in the Market for breakfast needs improvement. We actually were done eating many times before being offered coffee which got a bit annoying as we are huge tippers. The service in all of the dinner restaurants was top notch. The Dragon was one of our favorites as was the Market for dinner when it turned into a Mexican dining. New Years EVE was INCREDIBLE. Isreal and Oliver treated us like we were royalty. We couldn't have picked a better place to ring in the New Year. Oliver just happened to be our server at the pool most days alongside Itzel and we LOVED the both of them. THEY REALLY deserve a promotion. Such hard workers. PLEASE make sure you tip them well. Even if tipping isn't a thing where you live. IT IS A THING IN MEXICO so please respect that. And some might think "All Inclusive" means tips as well, it doesn't. Trust me...these hard workers are not there for the wage. And no they didn't complain to me...I just know this from visiting mexico many many times. Bernie with the entertainment staff was incredible. Such a super guy. He really knows how to get people to participate in the activities. My boys had a blast with him playing pool volleyball. Such a kind soul. Also a suggestion....the entertainment staff never gets tipped even though they work very hard as well so if you have a little extra and they go out of there way to give you a great experience maybe throw them a little something too. Jesus at the Vine bar was THE BEST! Gonna miss him.A suggestion for the resort: Make it ultimate and some may disagree... bring back the bracelets ..it gets annoying having to give your name and room number every time you want to go anywhere or get anything. Plus I'm sure people can easily sneak up to our resort if they really wanted to. Anyways this review was more for Secrets then the readers this time as I think the rating speak for itself. Go...enjoy and relax at the best place I've been to in Mexico so far. TIPS:The Ham and cheese at the deli is amazing. Get them to grill it for you. Coffee there is great too. Food portions are small which I LOVE. It gives you the chance to try way more dishes so if you are a big eater you may want to order a couple appy's with your meal.
