Casa del Mar Cozumel
- What's Included
Our OpinionCasa del Mar is a cozy little hotel that boasts some of the most breathtaking views in Cozumel. The beach is accessible through a set of stairs. However, it's small and secluded nature makes it an amazing spot for anyone wishing to escape from the hustle and bustle of typical resort life. Accommodations are very spacious and well maintained and the hotel staff are very friendly. The resort is a few minutes walk from the downtown core, making it a great resort for those wanting a quieter and more relaxing stay.
We stayed in a deluxe cabana which included a refrigerator, coffee maker, toaster, microwave, two burner stove. No coffee cups or cooking utensils provided. Soon to realize why..tiny tiny ants in the kitchen area. Then a few days later tiny tiny ants on the side bed shelves, no food in sight. Went to front desk to report the issue and the gentlemen on duty did not speak English. As far as the rest of the room, it was clean and comfortable. We enjoyed our patio with table, chairs and umbrella. The restaurant, housekeeping, and grounds staff were all friendly. We ate breakfast and dinner a couple of times during our stay. Food and service was good. Very reasonably priced. The bartenders were friendly and made great pina coladas and margaritas. Beer was cold. Ample parking. Pool area was large with plenty of lounge chairs, tables and umbrellas. Pool towels provided at bell stand. Safe in room. All in all a good hotel, although if I wanted to cohabitate with ants I would have gone camping.
Casa del Mar is a great place for scuba divers who want to have quick and easy access to the amazing diving Cozumel offers. The pool is clean, there is a swim up bar and there is a restaurant on site. There are also several places to eat within walking distance. The rooms are basic, but clean and the staff is very helpful and friendly.
Perfectly acceptable hotel for what I came to do...dive!!! Clean, comfortable rooms with efficient A/C units and mattresses that were firm and in good condition. Plumbing is poor as you have to flush and flush and flush. On-site restaurant is just "adequate" but on the plus side, quality of service from staff is very good as are the alchohic beverages.Little shore dive across the street to help you get acclimated and ready for your dives. The hotel is far from town, so could benefit from just a few weekend ammenities such as a van service and perhaps Salsa lessons on Friday and a Latin Band on Saturday to practice your new steps!!
It's nothing Fancy, small pool, swim up bar . You can make it all-inclusive or not, There are a lot of places to eat close by, Paprika's is great. What the hotel lacks in amenities, it more than makes up for in serviceIf you are not a diver, you probably won't like it The people are great
The hotel caters to divers so if you are looking for romantic ambiance this isnt your place. Now if you are looking for an inexpensive place to crash after diving then this is your place. Its super clean, hot water, hooks in the shower for your dive gear, a/c was cold as ice there were multiple plenty of water and ice machines and the staff was super helpful. Nice pool area, and the restaurant was very reasonable. We only ate breakfast there before going diving but on average for $5 you got coffee eggs bacon and toast. After glancing at a few of the other reviews of the place I want to squash out some of the fallacies. It is not beachfront. It is across the street from the beach, but there is a walkway across the street which was nice when hauling your gear to the dive pier. There is a beach area that is man made but was clean had stairs that led into the water a clean water shower and there were plenty of beach chairs and umbrellas to hang and chill. Another fallacy is the distance to downtown. I would say it would take you a solid 40+ min to walk there. Taxis would take you downtown for $7. There were several restaurants within walking distance though. There are several dive shops for all intensive purposes basically right there at the property. There is a mini mart next door to the hotel for water, snacks, etc. Overall I am rating the place 5 stars and this is based on what you are getting for a budget price. Imo well worth it and I would have no hesitation to return. Which I will :)
