Our OpinionThe Melia Cozumel is a great resort for those wanting a relaxing getaway. A very laid back resort with amazing views of the beach. The food items are OK. For those looking for a luxurious getaway, there are a variety of other options available for a better deal.
Location: On the beach, 10 min to town of San Miguel, 15 min from the airport.
ResortA bit old and on the small side BUT really liked that it ran parallel with the shoreline...the beach was always a short walk away. BeachBeautiful sand but the water was cloudy & seaweed was an issue. Take a short walk to the other side of the pier to snorkel. RoomGreat ocean view steps from the beach….could hear the waves at night. Enjoyed watching the cruise ships arrive/depart. Only issue during our stay was getting a few extra beers stocked in our fridge. A few $ works at most resorts but here they promptly posted a sign up stating any extra alcohol would be charged to the room. Not a big fan of Tecate anyway so picked up a case of another local brand and housekeeping promptly ceased stocking the fridge. Had to call housekeeping a couple days for our daily minimum.FoodThoroughly enjoyed both al a carte restaurants….buffet was a good breakfast option and okay for dinner.EntertainmentThoroughly enjoyed the Mariachi band as well as the Mayan interpretive dance show. There isn't much going on after 9pm so if you are looking for nightlife this isn't the place for you. A TV in the lobby bar would attract a few more patrons looking for their sports fix.StaffVery friendly and hard working. We tipped accordingly and it was very much appreciated. San Miguel/Playa del Carmen$5 cab ride to San Miguel….great for shopping. Awesome burrito joints 2-3 blocks off the main strip. 30 minute ferry ride to Playa del Carmen…beautiful beach. As mentioned many times, not a 5 star so temper your expectations and you'll have an enjoyable stay.
This is my second time going to this exact Resort.Highly recommend reserving a spot at one of their inclusive restaurants on the resort!Personally I recommend Cafe Paraiso and Diego. Our group of 10 ate there four out of the five nights and everyone loved it.From steak and lobster to pasta and soup all of the food was amazing. If you do visit this Resort make sure to find Diego and Hilario. Two of the best personalities on the whole Resort and we're a big part of why we came back to visit a second time. Also the snorkeling was spectacular crystal clear water and plenty of Wildlife
We stayed at the Melia Cozumel 11.12-11.19...we couldn't have asked for a better time! Our first trip at an AI with a toddler, and she enjoyed every minute. The first two days had crystal clear water in the morning, then afternoon got a little cloudy. The water did turn a bit brown due to the dock but a nice walk and the whole family enjoyed the snorkeling. The food was decent, more American vs Mexican, but delicious. Diego and the whole staff was amazing. We will be returning!
Excellent value...cant say enough positive words about our stay. Only thing I may upgrade is getting there. For us, it was a fun adventure... but if they want to attract serious money golfers they need to get the baggage/clubs onto the ferry from the mainland with some added help. We had to drag our stuff a couple blocks down the cobble stone streets to get to the ferry. Like I said, for us it was an adventure...I would hate to be the rich guy who had to drag his and his wifes stuff! However, Im sure that was more with who we booked with rather than the Hotel.
Just spent a week and must say the food is good. Variety of t-bone steak, salmon, seafood and authentic mexican dishes. The grounds are kept clean but slippery from mopping and rain. A little disappointed with room service, they skipped our room twice in a week and had to keep calling the front desk to have someone come clean it. If you are bringing kids for the Flinstones characters, they no longer exist at the Melia. The beach sand is nice but you can't swim because the water is brown from all the seeweed. If i had known that i would have went somewhere else. The pool water is really cold especially the adults pool so i hung out at the kids pool which was as well cold. Bring a sweater for the buffet restaurant, the AC is on high. Friendly restaurant staff, always there to serve you.
