Our OpinionThe Melia Cozumel is a great resort for those wanting a relaxing getaway. A very laid back resort with amazing views of the beach. The food items are OK. For those looking for a luxurious getaway, there are a variety of other options available for a better deal.
Location: On the beach, 10 min to town of San Miguel, 15 min from the airport.
What an experience! The hotel and food definitely didn't turn heads, i have eaten better but the amazing employees make up for it. The food overall was good, but seemed cold at times. The experience as a whole though was great, with the employees as listed being the soul of the hotel; Carlos, Maru Maria, Maria Jose (Majo), Otondel, DJ. Gener, Miguel, Luis (bar man) and finally Felipe (bar man) are definitely the reason to which the hotel is getting a 5/5 from me. Thanks again to the employees listed, you definitely made my vacation a blast. You are the reason i would come back to Melia.
My partner and I spent 5 nights at Melia after travelling through China, England and America for a month and it was the perfect place to relax in the sun! We were here in January 2017 (3rd-8th) and loved the sun and warmth after a month of winter around the world! Pros:- The beach was awesome, heaps of deck chairs with plenty of shade, or you could move them into the sun if you wanted. - Melia had two bars on the beach, one of which you could also swim up to in the adults only pool. Luxury!- There are three restaurants you could book dinner at on the day - we ate at all three - one was italian, one mexican and one 'international' where we had an amazing steak dish. - You could also eat the buffet dinner without booking, which we also did. - The staff were very friendly here and there were plenty of activities to do! They have a batting cage for baseball, a tennis court, a football/bball court, a gym, beach volleyball and soccer, pool volleyball and water aerobics plus stretching classes on the beach and ceramic painting. We only played tennis and went to the gym and otherwise relaxed on the beach or went swimming. - We also drank plenty of cocktails - we did some research and tried at least 10 different ones in our time there, ordering multiple of our favourites. - The sunset was AMAZING! beautiful as you are facing west.- Staying in an all inclusive where you don't have to think about money each time you eat or drink something was like heaven after travelling for a month and watching our bank balance drop.Cons:- The rooms at Melia are old and smell a bit damp. Struggled to dry any wet stuff indoors - the best place to do this was in the sun outside. - The shower seemed to leak over the bath every time we used it, so were always using our extra towel to mop it up. We had a storm while we were there and the front part of our beach front room flooded with rain water and we had to get the cleaner to come and mop it up! As you can see, there are many more pros than cons about this place. I would highly recommend Melia, but hope you get good weather, because that is what made this place so appealing! I also recommend to learn to dive while here and go on a tour. I only went snorkeling on the tour and still saw turtles and eagle ray and heaps of fish, but would be cooler to see them up closer! One thing I wish they had here is SUP boards. They had kayaks, but they are not quite the same. I would love to go back to Melia Cozumel some day and if I lived closer, I definitely would go back asap!
What a great Resort, quiet and relaxing, beautiful sand beach. I am not much of a water person, relaxing more my style....this is the most time I have ever spent in the ocean. The activities with Mary & Mara were wonderful (stretching and water aerobics). Great Mojitos on the beach made by Enrique. We had a beautiful ocean view room overlooking the Adult pool also. I would definitely go back to Melia in Cozumel.
The Melia All Inclusive Cozumel is a great place to stay. Service is excellent, Food is delicious and something for everybody. Nice beach! Very close to airport and safe area. Lots of entertainment for children.
We stayed at Melia from December 31 2016 to Jan 7, 2017. We brought our 2 boys with us - 12 and 15 and we all had a fantastic time. While we were stuck in the back in a ground floor garden view room - everything was a close walk. We found the air conditioning to work very well, the rooms were very clean, and the staff were all very friendly and accommodating. The beds/pillows etc. were also very comfy - probably the best sleeps I've ever had at a hotel! If you wanted activities, they were available, though often it seemed many did not participate. We did enjoy our Spanish lessons with Miguel:) The kids loved the game room...and we seemed to watch a movie nearly every night in our room that we had not seen before. They had some great entertainment - amazing breakdancers, a Mariachi band, and a Mayan show, and we found the food to be excellent! There was always an amazing variety and a lot of fresh food available, as well as kid friendly options (chicken fingers and potato wedges etc.) We did eat at Cafe Paraiso once...while the ambiance was lovely, and the entrees were excellent, we actually preferred the buffet. Our kids loved the Iguana snack bar where far too many hamburgers, fries and chicken wings were consumed (sigh). The beach was very large, (far more expansive and "roomy" than the neighbouring resort) and there were always plenty of beach and poolside loungers, which were very comfy and in excellent condition. The sand was beautiful...and while you could snorkel right off of the resort, a short walk to the breakwater between the other hotel held much better snorkeling - we went "swimming with the fishes" there every day...and don't forget to look at the amazing creatures on the wall of the breakwater! The fins and masks were OK...but I would suggest bringing your own snorkel. The resort is quite spread out and the number of rooms relatively low - so nothing ever felt crowded or rushed. If you wanted to go anywhere, a cab was always 5 minutes away. The night life at the resort was minimal, but we were there for a family vacation - if you want to get drunk and party all night long- this is not the place for you...if you want to have a great time with your family and meet some great people, then you've likely come to the right place! I will say - it is not a 5 star, but it is definitely a 4, and the ambiance, staff, food, cleanliness, family-friendliness, and price were spot on! One thing that struck me were the number of people who were 2nd or 3rd time visitors - a testament to the Melia. We truly had a great family vacay and would consider going again. If you want an offsite snorkeling tour - go with Chala-Michal - they were amazing and let you access all of their photos for free from their facebook page:)
