Our OpinionThe Melia Cozumel is a great resort for those wanting a relaxing getaway. A very laid back resort with amazing views of the beach. The food items are OK. For those looking for a luxurious getaway, there are a variety of other options available for a better deal.
Location: On the beach, 10 min to town of San Miguel, 15 min from the airport.
Where do I start? It appears this establishment caters to non English speaking clients as all the Caucasians people were in the farthest rooms from lobby 3rd story no elevators long walk! Check out day you have to carry your own luggage 3 flights of stairs! There was some nighty entertainment, only time there was activities was when the cruise ship people were there for a day pass and the activities were for them not the quest. Then on father's day we slept in and went to breakfast around 9:30 am not a seat in the entire dinning room the hotel opened the dinning to locals the checked in quest could not find a seat to even eat breakfast and we were not the only ones! There was a foul smell like raw sewage by the snack bar and speaking of the snack bar it took us an hour to get our food, the food was bad.The beach water is not clear a ton of seaweed do too no breakers even though they have signs stating pardon the seaweed it rebuilds our beaches. It was terrible! We do not recommend this hotel! We will not return!
This is a very good all inclusive resort. The beach and pool area is great and the rooms are very nice. The staff is great. You will have a great time here. The buffet has many choices and the food is actually very good.
My husband and I just returned from our 2nd stay at the Melia Golf Cozumel and we had a wonderful trip. The Melia is a great all-inclusive resort with everything you could possibly need!! I have read so many negative reviews about this resort and I just don't understand how people could be unhappy staying at the Melia. The buffet has many options, so something for everyone. We ate at the Italian and the Mexican ala carte restaurants and they were both very good. Each meal always started off with a "signature " drink, which was really unique and special. William, at the bar was amazing and always served us with a smile on his face! Rosmery was amazing and surprised us at the pool one day with chair massages and ceviche. Could not have asked for better treatment by everyone at the resort. We will return again!!
My husband and I stayed at the Melia Cozumel May 20-27th and enjoyed every minute of it! We have been staying at this hotel since 1986 so obviously, we love it and are eagerly looking forward to our next visit! While it is not the newest, most luxurious property on the island, it is extremely well kept and very clean and you will not find a more friendly, familiar staff eager to accommodate your needs! It was such a pleasure to see some of the same excellent staff such as Ignacio in dining (such a gentleman!), Enrique at the beach bar, Diego, Nemecio and many others! This week before Memorial Day was very slow with the exception of a few locals and other couples such as us who have been coming here for many years to just relax and enjoy the beach! Yes, there is seaweed occasionally but clears frequently and we do not find this to be a problem. Even when the hotel has been more crowded during earlier stays, we have never had a problem with an overcrowded beach. Checkin with Wendy was prompt and easy and our room was ready upon arrival. Housekeeping does an excellent job daily of cleaning, replenishing bottled water as well as any amenities needed and there is a small refrigerator which was ample for my needs as well as a safe that accommodated my iPad, phones, passports, etc. with no problem. Breakfast at La Isla is delightful as you can dine outside to enjoy the vast selection from the buffet. There are made to order omelets or eggs as you like, fresh fruit and juices along with every other standard breakfast item. My favorite always has been the traditional Mexican fare included at breakfast! The lunch buffet always offers fresh fish such as salmon, tuna or grouper along with different meats from the grill prepared to order. There was a vast selection of salads and vegetables as well as pasta and other items. There is a kids section with chicken nuggets, etc.. We had dinner from the buffet several evenings which has a different theme and is good as well as the Italian restaurant and the Mexican Restaurant and we were very satisfied with both. Try the Chile Relleno! The staff is always there with a smile to refill your beverage or assist with anything you need. Ask for the ice cream in the evenings! There are activities in the evenings after dinner such as Casino night, Bingo (won a massage!) or shows in the theater. A helpful "tip" - bring plenty of one dollar bills! Even though this property is all-inclusive, we always left a few dollars every meal as well as several per day for housekeeping. The staff could not be more appreciative!
If you are looking for a quiet get away for Memorial Day week you can't do better than Melia Cozumel! Clean beautiful and affordable all-inclusive with incredibly friendly staff and a wonderful beach and pool area. A slower time for them so felt like we had the place to ourselves! We highly recommend it!
