The Occidental Cozumel is a pleasant hotel. The rooms are spacious and well maintained. The staff are extremely friendly and attentive. The buffet and restaurants in the resort have a tendency to be open during specific times, so make sure to have a flyer handy to be informed what restaurants are open. Overall this is a great all-inclusive hotel for the entire family.
Nice resort. Was a dive vacation for us and the dive sights were all very close to the resort pier. Food at all the restaurants was good. Beach with snorkeling area was very nice. Staff was friendly and professional. Would recommend
This was our first time visiting Cozumel. We picked the resort due the recent reviews on TripAdvisor. We found the place to have old time Mexican charm with it’s beautiful fountains and pottery found throughout the resort. We enjoyed strolling through the spacious grounds with it’s lush greenery. Even though the resort was big we found it to be very intimate. We stayed at the royal level. Our room was very spacious and clean. The staff was very friendly and out of their way to make sure any special request were meet. The only downside to staying was we found the food average to below average for an all-inclusive.
Food is super low quality. Drinks are artificial and watered down. Management is aware and doesn’t care. Rooms lovely. Beach beautiful. Great pools. But aweful aweful food and drink. Not worth the money.
We enjoyed the lovely, lush vegetation, flowering plants and iguanas. The beach is clean, water is clear and is great for snorkeling. Fantastic service from Pedro and Angel from Alberto's Glass Bottom Boat at the reefs. Food was great, especially the a la carte restaurants. Pools are clean and refreshing. Activity personnel are very good at their jobs. We would certainly do a return holiday at Occidental.
This was our 6th visit here, and figured we should put our info out there for you to digest with the other reviews. I have reviewed this place before, so feel free to read those as well. We asked ourselves once we got home if we’d come back yet again , and immediately said yes. If you like to be away from town, this is the perfect place on the island. The beach and view are fantastic. No tall buildings, cruises ship parking, traffic or hustle and bustle. You are a 20-30 min / $15-$20 cab ride to town one way, so plan your outings wisely and you will be fine. After renting a car for 3 days and only using it one, I would say not to rent one for more than one day unless you totally know you are going to use it. One day to see the other side of the island and go into town is a good rule of thumb. You spend good money to eat and drink at the resort, enjoy it! If you are a diver, this is the best location to be at. You are at the beginning of all the great reefs in Cozumel. You will only be on the boat 5 – 10 min before you are there. Have your dive outfit pick you up on the dock, or find one that will. There is a dive shop next door, but I did not use. They did seem expensive. The food is always a big topic for reviews. They range from 0 to 5 stars. I have to say in first years I was not that impressed, but was not over expecting. This year we have seen even more improvement. If you are a picky eater and person, then you will find something to complain about. If you make the best of what you got (which is decent to begin with) and get creative, you will find yourself very happy, and full. The staff are also something people either love or hate. Some people will not be happy unless they complain about something or someone. Those seem to be the ones leaving nasty reviews. I see all the staff working there butts off trying to please the people that stay at this resort, they all earned my respect. Sure there are situations that come about that make things hard. Just be a decent person and try to work it out. They are there to make you stay as pleasant as they can, not to torture you like some reviews seem to say. We need to give a few shout outs to a few staff members that made our stay truly great. Erika in the spa, she is amazing. Isabel on the beach, she is hard working and always has a smile and my cocktails coming. Santos in the lobby bar, he remembers what I drink from years past and made sure I was taken care of as well. Cristal in the Main buffet, her cheerful smile greeted us every morning and at lunch. Nadia in management made sure all of our requests we taken care of and surpassed any expectation we had. Daniel and Abby remembered us, and give you a feeling of being important and welcome. When the time comes to go back to Cozumel , we would be a fool not to come back here.
