Our Opinion

The Occidental Cozumel is a pleasant hotel. The rooms are spacious and well maintained. The staff are extremely friendly and attentive. The buffet and restaurants in the resort have a tendency to be open during specific times, so make sure to have a flyer handy to be informed what restaurants are open. Overall this is a great all-inclusive hotel for the entire family.

A terrific week in Cozumel!

We had a wonderful relaxing week at Occidental Cozumel. Everything exceeded our expectations. The property is immaculately kept and is a tropical paradise. Everything one could desire in a Mexican all inclusive holiday has been included. Scuba, snorkelling, beach, pool, birding, great food, terrific staff- there's nothing else to say but Wow! We'll be back soon!

Nice resort

Our first time to an all inclusive resort. Grounds were beautiful, great location to beach, pools nice, rooms were really nice with everything we needed. Jesus Escobar was wonderful for all the activities! He showed us how to make guacamole, make friendship bracelets, did Zumba and water aerobics. Very energetic and lots of fun! The food in the buffet was good, Los Olivo’s restaurant was our favorite. The seafood restaurant on the beach was not good for our group and the service was poor-the gentleman who seated us was rude and that theme continued through the meal. Could benefit from having more choices after 9pm! The first night we arrived close to 9 and had not eaten since noon on the plane-needless to say we were starving, but only the buffet was open and just the remnants of what dinner was. The beach club for lunch was great everyday. The bars had excellent service and fun bartenders. Overall a great vacation with lots of relaxation and no guilt for the unlimited drinks/food due to our water aerobics and Jesus Escobar!

Great place

Great hotel with amazing staff. Close enought to the city (15 min drive) to enjoy local food and bars. Renting a car is very a must. To enjoy cozumel at its fullest.. a trip arround the island is also a must...

Relaxation Vacation

We just left yesterday after a week at this resort. First I have to say, Air Canada Vacations is the way to go if you live in Canada. Spend the extra and upgrade to 1st class (only approx 240.00 extra per couple) but the perks... no waiting in lines, meals in maple leaf lounge, no fee for luggage, comfy chairs and excellent service by stewardess, luggage is off plane first - definitely worth the extra $$. An Air Canada Rep met us at the airport and got us on a shuttle again with NO delay. Check in was a little stressful because we forgot to print off our vouchers for the room and that caused some confusion at desk. Once checked in - we were at building 10, conveniently located and the rooms were super clean and spacious. Bring hair conditioner and shampoo - they provide shampoo but not great quality. Housekeeping and grounds keeping was impeccable!!! Absolutely beautiful, private resort with a jungle like atmosphere and lots of fun animals around. The staff were all friendly, respectful and helpful. I read a lot about people pushing time shares - we were not approached even once. They are dressed in tan and you just need to avoid eye contact, they take the hint. The beach is sandy and beautiful... nearby resorts were more rocky. Always chairs, always shade... lots of organized activities if you want that but we wanted to relax which is exactly what we did. The food: fresh omelet made to order every morning and tons of fresh fruit, veggies, cheese and breads. The lunch restaurant was by the ocean and was truly beautiful - typical inclusive buffet options. Lots of Mexican ethnic food - typical American burger, fries if you wanted it but not the best. Again the best specialty restaurant was the Mexican but the buffet restaurant was nice as they always had a special that was made fresh at the grill which I appreciated. If you go to the adult pool you will see lots of iguanas ❤️ overall, we will definitely go back! Highly recommended especially if you are looking for a relaxing vacation.

Dive Resort

We use the Occidental Grand primarily as a dive resort. AI is as expected. Staff has recently experienced a large turnover after Barcelo management arrived. New faces not as happy and attentive as the old. Maybe new job and lack of confidence is the reason and this will gradually get better. Resident dive operation is more mechanical than personal. Boats are smaller (w/o heads) and were always crowded when we were there. I miss Dive Palancar!
