Our OpinionA gem of a resort with great value. The Playa Azul is a modest little resort. Despite being a little smaller than most of the major resorts around the strip, there is no shortage of quality and luxury. The staff are extremely friendly and attentive, and there are a variety of activities to do within and outside of the resort grounds. The food is OK. It is recommended that travelers explore other options with regards to food. Overall, an amazing hotel for its value.
We decided to stay at Playa Azul in between 2 all inclusive resort stays on our honeymoon. Playa Azul was the most relaxing portion of our trip. We only stayed at the resort for 3 days and 2 nights, however our time spent at Playa Azul exceeded my expectations. We arrived early (around noon) and stayed past check out (around 2) without any difficulties. The front desk guy was very accommodating and said to stay as long as we needed at no additional cost!! He also was helpful in getting us taxis into town for dinner. The resort is at the north (quiet) end of the island and is away from most of the tourists, cruise ships, and tourist shopping...yet it's only a $8 USD taxi ride back into town for delicious restaurants. The taxi drivers even sometimes wait outside your restaurant do you don't have to worry about finding taxi at night to get back to Playa Azul. Breakfast was included with the cost of the room, and was served a la cart without menus. We were told that normally they have a breakfast buffet, but only 7 rooms were filled so they were just taking ordered. They literally made whatever we asked for! We definitely enjoyed breakfast each day. We also ordered lunch at the beach bar each day as well. The food we received during lunch was okay...not great and not bad. Ordered a Mexican pizza, nachos, panini, and hamburger which all were just okay...now maybe we went wrong in. It ordering Mexican food, however wet had eaten so much on the first portion of our trip that we were ready for "less spicy" options lol! The waiters at both breakfast and the beach bar went out of their way to ensure we had wonderful experiences. They were awesome! Kermit even lent us his personal snorkel gear at no cost (we definitely tipped him though). Snorkeling was awesome right in front of the resort. We had no idea what we were looking at, but we saw several different types of brightly colored fish! The water is so salty that even the people who normally don't know how to float (me!!!!), just sit atop the water without any effort at all! The first day we were in complete seclusion, with no other tourist groups or water sports happening, however on day 2 the jet skis/ speed leads/ stand up paddle boards/ and snorkeling tours came out from the beach club next door (I think). I'm really not sure where all the people doing the activities came from! They were not staying at Playa Azul as none of them ever used any of the lounge chairs or beach bar area. It was an awesome feeling to know that the waiters/bartenders were there for you and only you! Now onto the rooms...they seem to have been updated recently. I say this since our room had nice wicker style furniture on our patio, but the rooms around the pool still seemed to have plastic chairs. We loved the bedroom portion and bathroom of our oceanfront suite (room 314), however the front living room had a couch that seemed like a blast from the past and didn't really match with the rest of the room. This didn't bother us as we didn't need to use that room anyways. We spent our time outside or in the bedroom with the curtains open so we could enjoy the beautiful turquoise water views! All in all, we loved our stay here and definitely would recommend to anyone who is interested in a quiet and relaxing stay in Cozumel!
We had to stay in Cozumel 2 additional days due to a medical issue (decompression sickness) and were thrilled to find this intimate, beautiful accommodation on the beach. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay @ Playa Azul. It is authentically Mexican, extremely welcoming, with excellent service. The facilities are a bit dated, but that only enhanced it's charm. The food was delicious and the snorkeling off the beach was more than I had expected (saw eels, lion fish, angel fish, surgeon fish, and many many more!). The grounds are beautiful with turtles in the entrance area. The servers @ the beach bar went out of their way to make sure we had a wonderful time! I would recommend this facility to anyone!
peaceful, great weather, excellent service and good meal.excellent location espectacular views from ocean and beach this hotel unique the ocean water is clear you can see many fish and crabs on the playa azul pier
The service here was the best I've ever encountered. Nothing but awesomeness to say about this place! Would definitely recommend this to everyone considering to stay in Cozumel. Great access to some amazing snorkeling right at the resort
We love Playa Azul and have revisited many times. Hoping to go again next year. It is at the quiet end of the Island. The staff is wonderful, the food is great, every room has at least a partial ocean view and the snorkeling is amazing. We like to walk to town from there and see the local sites. Plus there is a long beach walk to the end of the north part of the island.
