Our OpinionA gem of a resort with great value. The Playa Azul is a modest little resort. Despite being a little smaller than most of the major resorts around the strip, there is no shortage of quality and luxury. The staff are extremely friendly and attentive, and there are a variety of activities to do within and outside of the resort grounds. The food is OK. It is recommended that travelers explore other options with regards to food. Overall, an amazing hotel for its value.
Playa Azul is a small family hotel. It is located on the quieter north side of the island. It is one of the very few hotels on the north side that has a sandy beach. The staff is friendly and very attentive to your needs. The food is delicious. The beach bar is superb. I highly recommend this hotel. It is clean and well maintained.
The staff are so friendly and helpful. Every morning we were greeted with "Hola, Buenos Dias" from the front desk, dining room, and maids. The beach is beautiful. Snorkeling is great right from the resort. The front desk staff were always willing to help out with any of our needs. The rooms are very clean and airy. We had the perfect view of sunset from our balcony every evening. Maid service was provided every morning and evening. We recommend Playa Azul for anyone looking for a relaxing get away vacation.
The pictures of the hotel from the beach sold us on this place. Getting here proved to be a little more difficult. Bike race in the city made it a little stressful getting to the hotel. What should've been a 5 minute drive from the ferry terminal to the hotel was closer to 35 minutes through the crowded side streets. The main road to the hotel was closed. I guess there is no way to prepare guests in advance for events that may have an impact on their stay. But the race wasn't the hotels fault! Check in was quick and easy. Our room was simple and lacked any modern updates. But it was exactly what we expected! We wanted a great view where we could just relax. Great service and a staff that seemly had been there for years. It was really nice to get a friendly Ola and Buenos Dias every time you were with them. When we wanted to go parasailing we were picked up from the dock right there on the beach in 30 minutes. Same thing when we wanted to rent a scooter. Guy showed up out front and we were on our way. Hailing a taxi too. If you needed some good recommendations we got it. The bar on the beach was a great way to meet guests; many whom had stayed before which said a lot about the hotel. It seemed that most of the guests really wanted the same thing that we did for our vacation. Great prices for food & drinks. The beach out back was really nice and offered a place to walk into with your drink and a place to get some snorkeling in. Breakfast was perfect. Omelette's were just right. Staff very helpful. Our maid even made animals out of the towels and we had fresh flowers on our bed. It was also great see that some sorely new paint was going while we were there. It's going to give it a fresh look! Our only let down was thinking a round of golf was actually going to be free. My wife wanted to do just nine holes and because of my shoulder injury I couldn't swing a club. We were expecting to fork out some money to rent some clubs and a cart. But we didn't expect that if I was only going to be driving the cart that was going to cost $25. The clubs was going to be $35. Some other fee was going to tack on more and the next thing you no we're at $100. Not to mention we felt the cab driver stuck it to us for the 1 1/2 mile ride to the club. It felt like because we were going to be playing at a Jack Nicholas designed course that we must be loaded and wouldn't think twice about throwing money out the window. Also, the pavilion next to the resort is used as an excursion for the cruise ships so expect that you'll be sharing some of your outdoor space with them. That's the honest truth about our stay. We LOVED it here and would now choose Playa Azul over Maui because it's the better VALUE and the Mexican people were much more friendly!
The rooms are ok as well as the staff. Overall the buildings by the pool need a paint job because this makes the hotel look unattended. The price I paid per night which was 160 USD approximately was by all means not a good value. I would say this is a 3 star hotel and a daily rate of 60 to 70 USD would be appropriate for the infrastructure of this hotel. All that said, the rooms are spacious and clean and the quality of the restaurant is ok for a fast meal or breakfast. The view from my room was very nice.
Had the best week ever staying at Plaza Azul. it was low season and my wife and i had the dive boat each morning to ourselves. A private dive every day! Every afternoon we played golf across the street and again no crowds. Staff was beyond friendly and mad us feel like family. If you like private and quiet then this is the place to visit in off season. Our anniversary package included a suite with Jacuzzi outside and dinner by the ocean. Will definitely going to return to Plaza Azul again.
