The Sunscape is an amazing hotel that offers great value. The resort offers various different amenities and has amazing and knowledgeable staff. The dive locations around this area is unlike any other. For those looking for a vacation where they spend more days out and about should stay here.
First, for an all inclusive hotel, the rates at Sunscape Sabor were extremely affordable IMO. We paid as much than or less than some US airport hotels with no food or services. So, to be on a beautiful beach in Cozumel with food and drinks included, super nice staff, well-kept ground, and so near some of the best diving, I would say that this hotel is a GREAT value!-Buffet food, mexican food---A+. I found the food here to be really good and flavorful especially if you stayed with indigenous picks. The steaks and American-style food was just ok-Staff was great! I really got to talk to Agnes, Will, Brenda in the UV club office and they were so down-to-earth and nice.-Room and bldg layout is quaint. Nothing is very far away. We were on the 2nd floor, right on the beach. Beautiful! Staff is doing a great job at keeping it up daily.-Rooms are clean but dated and in need of upgrade. Had some issues with water in the room a couple of times (none at all or no hot water) but resolved itself by next day.-Worst part: the bed was horrible! So hard like sleeping on a cement slab.-Beach lounges are ok and plentiful but probably need to be replaced so they can recline the whole way.-The rest of our party was staying next door at Secrets Aura, and I spent some time over there too. Really pretty, updated and more high end.
This was our 3rd visit here and expected much better customer service than we received. Upon arrival our room that had been paid for for months was rented to someone else, so they offered a 1 night upgrade but expected us to move and be displaced without a room for 3+ hours the next day. That is not good customer service, especially to customers that are repeat visitors. It seemed to be a hassle to get the mini fridge restocked.Next, They were remodeling the breakfast area so there was minimal places to sit, this was understandable. However, the magnitude of bee's and flies in the buffet food was unacceptable. You could not sit outside for the bees getting in your food and on your person. But the most aggravating was the front desk, we arrived a day late due to airplane problems at our home airport. Once we missed our connecting flight I called the resort to notify them of what was going on, I asked was there anything we could do, to my surprise I was told by a reservations clerk that we might could do a "date swap", swap our arrival and departure dates for the delayed ones. They were putting in a request for us and would call back with the answer later. The answer was no, but to ask when we arrived on property, which I did and was instantly told "No" by the clerk without even looking at the computer. So ok, we were going to eat one day of our vacation, very disappointing but we would live. It was then that the clerk realized our room was not available so we got to meet the manager, Sandy. Sandy just politely offered the free 1 night upgrade. I was tired and we had already paid for an upgraded room and hate moving rooms multiple times so I politely thanked her but explained I would just like MY room please. She told me my room was not ready, people were still in it, which I obviously questioned since I was supposed to arrive the day prior! So I explained to Sandy the situation and that I had requested a date swap 2 times and was declined both times so I could not understand how my room could not be ready since the resort obviously did not help customers out..... She said "oh a date swap is no problem, sure." And just like that it was done. She took some information and wrote it down in her notebook, so we agreed to swap rooms for 1 night. This sounds great right? Well, 3 nights before we were scheduled to leave we started getting notes under the door saying how we were checking out the next day. I went to the front desk and spoke with the clerk that said she would get with Sandy and get it resolved. But each day we received another note, each getting more intense with the wording, including being charged if we did not leave. Each day we went to the desk and tried to resolve it taking up to 2 hours out of our day for this. On the last day before we left the last note came with threats to charge my card for another night if we did not check out by noon that day. I was furious. I called the front desk and asked to make an appointment with Sandy. I was told she wasn't in, what did I want? I once again explained the note and the date swap but they seemed to not care. I said I was on my way down there and they told me no they were sending someone to my room. I was soo mad.. He showed up and I explained the situation, showed him Sandy's card and he made a phone call from my phone and said ok. I told him this was our 3rd time there and was totally disappointed in how we were treated and that we would not ever be back to this resort. He said ok. I told him the customer service was absolutely the worst I had ever seen and that they had ruined our vacation having to deal with the stress that this had put on me. He said "ok". I said get out. It was no use talking to anyone in management/customer service. They did not care if their guests were unhappy or displeased. They did not care if anyone came back. It was so disappointing. The best service I did receive was from our cleaning lady. She worked extremely hard and treated our daughter extra special. We were very appreciative of her. The food was not very good this time. They changed the hours on the snack bar and did not tell/announce it anywhere. So if that is what you were planning on eating for dinner, which stated opened at 9 pm, you had to wait until Midnight. There seemed to be a lot of small things that really added up. The best thing for us is the water life right there. But due to the guests stomping around and killing everything, the artificial reef system that used to be growing abundantly was dead and minimal, as was the sea life we saw this trip snorkeling from the bank. Snorkeling from the bank of this resort was a huge plus for us. Our 8 year old daughter loved it years previous. I would not recommend this resort to anyone - ever after the way they treated us.
When you arrive there the Bellboys are right there to help you. The staff at the front desk are very curtious an helpful. The resort is beautiful, easy to find your rooms an resturants. There's a grill for your fast food needs, resturants for breakfast, lunch an dinner. Very good food. The waiters an waitress are very curtious an very helpful. I would like to mention a few names, Juan Carlos, Bellboy. Sandy Baeza, front desk manager, very nice an helpful.Portofino waiters, Adrian,Rucel,Ismael,Jorge, Luis, waitress Laura, Marion, Karina, Yuri. Very helpful, prompt. Nice hotel, located on the outskirts of the main city of Cozumel, which can provide for relaxation time. Staff is definitely friendly and helpful in any event. The three restaurant provide average food on general. Better off renting a car and exploring the surroundings for a more festive menu.
We stay 4 days at the Sunscape and had a wonderful time. The room was spacious and very confortable but we pay extra for an ocean from room with a whirlpool and their was not hot water in the whirlpool!!Had dinner at all of the a la carte restaurants and their where excellent especially the Mexican Restaurant .The hotel staff was fantastic everyone was extremely friendly always smiling and willing to help with whatever questions we had.I specially want to mention Miquel at the beach bar for his great customer service and the Animation team,Abril and Victor for their friendly and professional attitudes which is difficult to find now days!!Thanks all of you for a great vacation and I will see you again in February.Jorge
