The Barcelo Huatulco staff are excellent! From the front desk to the room service, guests are treated very well. Most of the rooms are ocean view and very large. The beach area in front of the Barcelo is beautiful and clean with not a lot of harassing beach vendors. The dinner buffet could use a bit of improvement but is definitely not bad for an all inclusive resort. Not a lively resort, but the bars in town are only a short $3 cab ride away. Barcelo Huatulco is a great resort for rest and relaxation.
We stayed at the Barcelo Beach Resort and for our first time we pre-purchased the Premium Deluxe Room and services. Was it worth the extra cost? In many ways yes, because we got a really comfortable bed with an amazing view. We enjoyed having premium alcohol choices. We also really appreciated having access to the Premium Lounge where we met Oscar and Jimmy - two very remarkable kind and knowledgeable men. For you special coffee drinkers ask Jimmy to make you a coalminers - he is now a pro at those!! The hotel is very clean. The beach is beautiful. The people are very friendly in Huatulco. It is safe. The bar services at this resort are not great. The pool bartenders and the lobby bartenders services we're disappointing, not bad they just didn't seem to really care if you were there or not. Certainly not in arush to make you a drink or make you feel welcome. We travel to Mexico frequently and usually make friends with the bartenders easily and enjoy some fun banter but not so at this resort. The food is very good but not great. The ala carte restaurants are ok, the Italian one is very very good, when it's open...This is a four star resort and not a five for those reasons. If the Barcelo wants to make it a five star they should consider making those changes. They should also enforce the adult only pool at ALL TIMES for ALL PEOPLE (not just some of the people some of the time) Also, an area for Premium guests on the beach would be a benefit for those paying the extra $. Would we go back? yes, would we go premium probably not. We would like to give a special shout out to Oscar, Jimmy and Claudia in the Premium Lounge, their attention to detail made our trip pleasurable.
I visited this hotel and Huatulco end of Nov. If I were to write the review in the first couple of days I'd have given it a solid 4 stars, but what happened after that changed my mind. The good: nice location, directly on the beach, good weather, nice pool (especially adults only) for a late (until 8pm) night swim. Good and clean rooms, majority with a good ocean view. Good food at speciality restaurants. Not so good: drinks at the hotel are nowhere near a 5 star as Barceló claims to be, majority are slushy sweets, almost no/very low quality alcohol or beer. We went to a lot of AI resorts and found much better quality of drinks even at a 4 starts. Do not get me wrong, you get quantity but I am talking quality here….for somebody who does not drink beer not truly too many options of a good drink (especially at a pool bar, they tend to get better in the lobby bar or theatre - but you have to ask for some premium) . Food at buffet so and so, you won't starve, but nothing extraordinary. Better at the beach restaurant, but I guess the ambiance (right by the ocean) has a lot to do with perception of a better food. I noticed for breakfast you get some speciality like eggs Florentine or benedict if you are there very early, after that are gone. They have a very good cheese, small balls. Very yummy. The ugly: Worse than the worse of a Canadian Spring break: after couple of days a group of students arrived at a conference and in my view they literally shut down the nice resort feeling I experienced so far. Jonathan (the bartender) had to close the pool bar earlier (before/around 6pm) , lots of people/screams in the pool, almost you had no room to get in/out the pool and these screams continued thorough the resort the whole night. I could not sleep a minute that night because of the noise and banging at doors. The next day I heard that 4 people were taken to jail that night and more security will be brought for the following. Nevertheless, the next day huge line ups everywhere, including at the beach restaurant, food quality started to drop and noise continued through the night. While I was there the proportion was about 70-80% Mexican vs Canadian, but I did not mind Mexican families (even with lots of small screaming kids). But for those students I am really wondering what type of people is this resort willing to bring and accept behaviours , personally I was afraid through the nights as they were bangs in my door multiple times and somebody tried to kick my door. People who end up in jail should not be the welcomed clientele at a hotel like Barceló.Would I recommend?- hard to say, probably not given my experience with the crazy parties, for the money I paid I'd have expected much more. Unless you get a good deal, spend your hard earn money elsewhere.Would I
Had an amazing holiday here....the staff was amazing....especially a young man named Jonathan Vazquez a bartender at the resort....he made our holiday with his friendliness, helpfulness and superb personality.
Our 2nd time to Barcelo Huatulco in November 2016 first being last Nov. We began coming here to avoid spotty weather in Riviera Maya in Nov. Nothing but sun again and we love the resort when its not really busy. Not super fancy but great staff and very clean. Any concerns (and there always is something for my fusspot wife) were dealt with promptly and with a smile. Great beach and beautiful view made hanging at the sea sooo good tho shadey spots disappeared quickly. Pools were clean and nice n cool which was welcome when you get too hot.Buffets were ok with highlite being the fresh grill at the seaside. A la Carte dining was lacking with cold or overcooked being normal even tho the waiters seemed to be running their butts off. Strangely the little sushi place was good both times visited which is a first after visiting six all-inclusives. One more topic before closing and that is the house band who plays in the lobby/lounge and for the nightly shows. A couple of very nice voices and good players but how about controlling the volume! I'm in a weekend rock band and love to turn up but on vacation sipping drinks in a lounge would like to talk without raising my voice. One more music note(pun) how about playing some music for Canadians at poolside maybe "happy hour" 4-6 with hits of 70s,80s and 90s. All in all an enjoyable week was had and we will be back thank you Barcelo!
This was our first trip to Huatulco - though our 5th stay at an all-inclusive resort and we had a fabulous time. We were the first Sunwing trip in for this season so the resort was only about half full! That was nice :) We enjoyed the food - it's always hit and miss with an all-inclusive resort and this one was actually our favourite food-wise. There were always lots of options in the buffet. We only tried one specialty restaurant (the Mexican one) and because my husband had a severe allergic reaction to something either nut-related or shellfish related (and yet hadn't been in what he ordered according to the menu) we decided just to stick with the buffet for the rest of our stay. We were ok with that! We always had a great variety, even my gluten-free, vegetarian sister agrees :) We loved "our" waiter who always flagged us down for meals (thanks Victor!!!), but all of them were helpful and friendly. We spent the whole week lounging on our chairs with amazing pool service beverages thanks to Fernando! A huge shout out to Edgar Delgado who went above and beyond in friendliness and pretty much became a friend - we even ate lunch with him one of the days! He did an excellent job leading the activities. The shows at night were some of the best we have seen in all our travels!
