- What's Included
My wife and I discovered this hotel quite by accident a couple of years ago when taking advantage of an airfare sale to Mexico. We read the reviews, and having only briefly visited Huatulco while on a cruise, decided to venture into unfamiliar territory. It was indeed a happy surprise and we returned a second time in December 2016. The staff are very friendly, and if you speak a modicum of Spanish they will go above and beyond to assist you with whatever you require. The location is pretty much ideal, being almost next door to the Super Chedraui hypermarket and within easy walking distance of town and beach areas. Do take advantage of the optional breakfast, as it is quite varied, filling and flavourful. It is well worth the extra surcharge, as it can sustain you for quite some time. The onsite restaurant offers frequent special events and/or menus that also represent good value. The rooms are simple, but clean. If you opt for the loft type suite, be aware that you must descend a wooden staircase to use the bathroom once you are in bed. If you must use the facilities during the darkness of night, it can be a bit tricky. The poolside rooms are smaller, but with a small terrace and outdoor table and chairs, they are the most practical. The pool is always clean, the water refreshing, and new loungers and umbrellas were furnished during our last trip. Huatulco is a haven for Canadian snowbirds, of which I am one, and most are gregarious and friendly.
We had our second holiday at Villablanca from Feb. 21 to March 7, 2017. It was just as wonderful this time as last, which was in Nov. of 2016. Once again amazing local food selections at the included breakfasts and great evening meals from the restaurant. The staff is incredible and I would like to name them all. I do have to mention Javier who keeps the place running like a clock and is so wonderful to everyone. Two of our very favourite servers are Josue and Sheila who treat you like family. Can't wait to return.
With Hotel Villablanca, the sum is greater than the parts. What makes the difference is the attentive staff, very friendly, helpful and they make you feel welcome. There is a very easy, relaxing and comfortable feel to Huatulco even for a first time visitor. Overall, rating 4.5/5. I would definitely recommend and would come back. What is telling, many people were repeat customers, some having come for years or staying weeks on end. Moreover, many of the staff have been there for awhile and it makes a difference. Easy to meet and talk to people around the pool. If you're looking for a sleek, modern hotel with blaring Euro pop music by the poolside, Villablanca is not for you. It's not on the beach but is centrally located and close to everything. Its an older hotel, very well maintained lots of Mexican charm and character. Old fashioned room keys harken back to a different time. Best rooms are on the first floor with small garden terrace, steps from the pool. Third floor (junior suites) have loft style rooms but there is no elevator. Rooms are clean, large with eat in dining table, comfortable bed, coffee maker, room safe, AC and most with balcony that faces onto pool. Wifi is decent. Strength is their great staff welcoming, helpful and very friendly. Got impromptu Spanish lessons our first night there. Loved it. Pool was nice but a bit too warm for my liking. Pool is split 1/3 shallow/wading pool for young kids, 2/3 regular pool. What was nice to see in addition to loungers, were Muskoka/Adirondack chairs as well as table and chairs around the pool side. Never an issue getting a lounger or chair. Good mix of guests, Canadian, some US as well as Mexican families. Live music most nights. Food was very good and definitely include breakfast with your stay. Dining area has view of the pool area. Buffet style, very good, but you will have to ask them for bacon or omelette or your morning espresso or cappuccino. Hotel is in great location close to everything There is a Chedraui (think Walmart like) store around the corner. It's about 1-1.2 Km or 15 min walk to La Crucecita or Santa Cruz where there are many restaurants. Too hot or too far, grab a taxi. It's only 30 pesos. A variety of beaches to choose from 5-10 min walk or easy cab ride to Tangolunda and other beaches (70 pesos)Restaurants near Hotel VillaBlanca and recommended, Trip advisor rating at time of writing and distance from hotel - Restaurant at Villablanca 0 km, #26, excellent food, a hidden gemL'Echalote, 0.1 km, #8 French, superb, my favourite, right around the corner, turn left coming out of the hotel, a bit more expensive than some others- Rocoto, 0.4 km, #28, smallish, outstanding, great flavour and presentation, Chef Claudia is very personable, reservation recommended, very reasonable, does not take credit cards- 7 Taviola La Taverna, 0.7km, #5- Restaurant Mercader , 1.1 km, #1, smallish, outstanding mix of Mexican and Thai food, very reasonable-- Terra Cotta, 1.3Km, #3, very good, nice dining room, air conditioned - Viena Huatulco, 3.6Km, #11, excellent, do not take credit cardsTips; ask for fridge to be brought to room and definitely include breakfast with your stay - I would recommend to Hotel to place fridges in each of the rooms, - Consider adding omelette station, next to quesadilla station- Addition of microwave to rooms would be most welcome addition
Excellent hotel, great location, beach and La Crucecita town in walking distance. We stayed for 2 weeks in March and it was our first vacation in Mexico. We really enjoyed it and were sorry to leave. The hotel is very clean and safe and the rooms all have great views either of the pool or the street, it is not a busy street. We booked with Sunwing with the breakfast option and it was great. Hot dishes, fresh fruit and juices, cereals, yogurt, smoothie station, cook to order tortilla station, pastries and you can also place your order if you prefer scrambled eggs with bacon, eggs benedict, etc. Taxis are available in front of hotel and everywhere you go. It costs 30 pesos to go to La Crucecita or Santa Cruz. The hotel is not on the beach but it is a short walk and the hotel has a designated area called The Beach Club with a nice restaurant, clean washrooms, lounge chairs and umbrellas beside the cruise ship dock in Santa Cruz. A block from the hotel is the super che, similar to Walmart where you can buy anything you need. Our room was ont the third floor, it was quiet and if we wanted to enjoy the live entertainment we would keep our doors open. They had live music 3 nights a week. Sunwing offers great excursions. Cruises of the 9 bays and tour of Huatulco were amazing! We look forward to returning to Hotel Villablanca.
We have just returned from a 14 night stay at the Villa Blanca and there is nothing much to say but "WOW". We have stayed at many resorts around the world but this place, although modest, is one of the best stays we have ever had. The rooms are basic but extremely well kept, the grounds are small but absolutely immaculate. The thing that sets this place apart is the staff.. Every member of the staff here are amazing. Every waiter is extremely courteous and attends to your every need, even down to helping you with your Spanish. The meals in the restaurant are of the highest quality and are extremely well presented and so yummy. I had the rib eye and shrimp dinner twice and both times they were cooked to perfection. My wife had the citric chicken which she said was excellent. The pool is kept as clean as possible due to the trees and foliage around it which drop in during the day but the gardener cleans it every single day so hence my comment "as clean as possible"There is a grocery store just around the corner from the hotel which has everything anyone could need. The location is close to the town of La Crucecita which is a must see place with a beautiful church in the town square and extremely safe to walk around with several watering holes availableI could go on forever with my review but I will close with these wordsNever mind Dreams, never mind Secrets and the likes,, try this place and you will definitely not be disappointed. We are returning in November and hopefully many more times after thatTo everyone at this fantastic resort "Muchas Gracias" with special thanks to Javier, Shiela (The Hyena), Lala and all the other staff who's names elude meSee you all in November
