The Barcelo Ixtapa is a great resort for couples and families!

1st time in Ixtapa, will not be our last!

This was our 1st time booking a 'Premium" package. It was worth every penny. We had a huge room (802). No balcony, but that was ok as the windows opened. We got our king size bed, and all the extras that go along with premium. As far as a mid range price all inclusive this was the best we've been to for a few reasons. The food was good and varied. We ended up at the snack bar every day for lunch. At the buffet for breakfast and dinners; the amounts on the buffet were small enough that they stayed fresh and were replenished often. Do not miss the Mexican fiesta! The local dishes are made by women from the village and were very tasty. I was especially impressed with the white chicken pozole and the chicken tamales. The resort was spotless, the staff friendly and the service first rate everywhere. We tried both the Spanish ala carte and the Sunset. We were pleased with both. If you book premium; make sure to take in the reception at the Sanca Bar on Friday. The 2 concierges at the premium lounge were great! They both speak wonderful English and made sure any questions or concerns (very insignificant issues) were dealt with immediately. We spent time with Jessica at the reception and after that we were definitely part of the Barcelo family. The executive Chef, Gustav, does a wonderful job, when my spouse casually mentioned he wanted steak to him, voila, he personally brought a lovely steak to my husband at the Mexican fiesta! We did not book any tours as we went golfing instead on this trip.A few notes:CHECK IN- We waited in line, if you are Premium let your tour rep know and it is expedited in air conditioned comfort.INTERNET - included when you book premium, codes are for one device only but I received all the codes I needed for 3 devices(included), non premium - $16 per day. Internet is adequate for surfing but downloading anything can be very cumbersome.HOUSEKEEPING - do not count on them to speak English! Any concerns go to the front desk or your tour rep. It seemed like we had a different housekeeper every day. The 1st 2 did not replenish all necessary towels so I stopped tipping. The service in the room got better!A/C - adequate, and could use an upgrade, was my only issue with the room. Worked but was not quite sufficient for the size of the room.BEACH CHAIRS - Lots except on weekends. Like every other resort they tell you not to reserve, but everyone does.MASSAGES - Go off site, north of the hotel on the beach there are a number of massage huts advertising $20 /hour!THE BEACH - Awesome for walking, flat and clean. Took us about 70 minutes to walk from the resort to the north breakwater and back. Be very careful swimming as the undertow is deceptively strong.

very dissapointed

we arrived March 12 / March no one greeting us with something to drink after a 4 hr flight then bus ride to resort, Then to find our rooms were not ready but they were easy to want to charge for upgrade with a cost of $ 288.00 , didn't up grade , which I thought everyone staying there should have been giving the best room when bookedMy room was on the second floor 204 right about the disco, I had to listen to music for 4 hrs 10:30 - to 2:30 in the morning, I knew what song they were singing, started with Blue Moon (song) and some nights ended with Blue Moon for the night, it being my fault I should have asked to be change to a different room but after the upgrade who knows what they would have chargethe food was ok, same thing every day, they had a festival Mexican Fiesta the food was good there something different and the music was awesomeIxtapa is very nice I like being right across the street from stores, bars, etc,I would like to go back , not sure if I'll stay at the same resortthey had rules which DID NOT APPLY TO EVERYONE, go to the snack bar can't get in if your wet ok go dry up come back but then there's someone all wet but has a towel wrapped around they let her inmen can not go in to eat without having a t-shirt with a sleeve on it, ok change to a tshirt then you see people in there with a sleeveless shirt, have rules but they should be for everyone not pick and chooseChicago Il

first time to Ixtapa

Arrive march 2nd 2017 and stayed until March 16th. Really liked the location of this property as it was directly on the beach and was only a block away from great little bars and restaurants. I would say that this hotel was probably the cleanest hotel we have ever stayed at. Everything was spotless. I read previously on another review about the elevators being slow and the food was not good or a very poor food selection but I think the people that wrote those reviews could not have been at the same hotel, as the food was really good, wide selection and the elevators were super fast , I don,t think we ever waited more than 15 to 20 seconds. The band also at this hotel were fantastic. All very talented musicians and very entertaining. Hotel staff were all very good and did their best to look after everyone.

Excellent week in Ixtapa!

-This was our very first trip to Ixtapa, and our family of 4 stayed at Barcelo March 12-19. We had a family deluxe suite in the 4 story suite-only building. Our view of the ocean was fabulous and the ocean lulled us to sleep every night through closed windows and sliding door. Taking an evening jacuzzi on our balcony under the stars with the ocean wave sounds filling my ears is one of my favorite Ixtapa experiences. We did not upgrade to premium status, and I don't know why one would. It seems totally unnecessary. -Barcelo resort is situated on a beautiful 5km stretch of perfect brown-sugar sand. The four of us had a fantastic time playing in the crashing waves and floating in the calmer waters. We could not locate a single piece of sea weed or unpleasant ocean debris during our entire week. It is a wonderful beach for swimming and body boarding as you won't step on anything hurtful or surprising. There are small fish in the swim zone that will nibble at one's legs and do keep the pelicans busy dive-bombing into the ocean for their meals. The sand does get HOT in the afternoon, but coming from North Dakota, we welcomed the hot and glorious weather in March. Wear your flip flops and you will be fine! There were always open chairs, and we changed locations throughout the day to follow the shade under the trees. Bring sunscreen of at least 15 spf. The UV index was consistently 11 out of 10. Ixtapa is sunny and hot!!-Housekeeping does a tremendous job. The public bathrooms were never without an attendant sweeping up beach sand and wiping down toilets. Our room was spotless and our mini frig was re-stocked with bottled water and Corona, Pepsi, and Pepsi-Light each day. The restaurant food was fantastic! I already miss the freshly and perfectly steamed vegetables at every meal... and the eggs.. Made to order eggs every breakfast. YUM. I have a body-builder son and he was thrilled at the variety of protein and fresh fruit and vegetables available around the clock. The sunset dinner is not to be missed! We did not dine off-property. There is no reason to leave the resort to eat.- I took in 3 massages at the beach front massage hut just to the left of the Barcelo property. I had 3 fantastic (45 min) $20 services. I heard that massage huts further down the beach had massage services for $10, but I ran out of time to experience it. Ixtapa accepts USD, so no need to exchange money to get around and make purchases. We did a day excursion to snorkel on Ixtapa Island, and an evening Sunset Picante Cruise which were both 5 Star experiences as well. -The fact that many of the people I talked to during our week stay were returning guests of 5,10,15 years in a row confirms my 5 Star review... Barcelo Ixtapa is an amazing destination. We will return!
