We returned from Holiday Inn Ixtapa, Mexico on Feb. 16 a 7 days stay. Nice resort in the middle of Ixtapa, close to shops, restaurants with beautiful beach. The restaurants 2 a la carte on the beach were very good no reservation required - and one very modern buffet restaurant clean where the servers are amazing people , extremely nice and polite.Very good food, many choices every day.The accommodation was not what we expected to be.We paid for a garden-view room but the lady from the front desk didn't look in our file where we asked the highest level with balcony. The room designated to us was in at three storey buiding ,street view lot's of noise from the restaurants on the other side of the street no balcony.First we asked about the room and she told us we have the room at the lower level and when we asked her to look in our file she gave us a room at the second level, and when we got there we realized it has no balcony. We went back and she told us all the rooms with balcony are taken and to come back and check it Saturday or Sunday .We did this but on Sunday she asked us to come back Monday ! So we gave up on moving since we already spent 4 from 7 nights in that room- which was not what we paid for a garden-view room! But the good thing the room was very clean no complains.Otherwise was a memorable stay we"ll go back one day but trying another resort in the same area.
This is our 4th stay at the Holiday Inn Ixtapa - the hotel is a bit older but very well kept. The grounds are always clean, the rooms are nothing special but the beds and pillows are soft and comfy. Don't get hung up on the rooms - you sleep and shower in the rooms otherwise hopefully you are on the beach enjoying the beautiful water and the mile long stretch of the beautiful pacific ocean. Regarding food: Breakfast is good, you cant go wrong with a made to order omelet and some fruit. Sit in Carlos's section , he is a great guy and good friend. Be sure to tip your waiters, they rely on the tips to make ends meet. Lunch is nothing special but you can always find something. We always go out for dinner as there are so many wonderful places to eat in Ixtapa and in Zihua. Generals, Franks, Blue Shrimp, Deborah's, Rueben's, Emilio's, Fireball is a fun little bar in Ixtapa and so many others. The weather in February is AMAZING...90 and clear blue sky for 10 straight days. The bar-tenders at the pool bar: Orlando (adorable), Humberto (has worked there for 30 years), Lucas..they are all SO very nice...again be sure to tip, be generous. These people work so hard for so little pay and they always have a smile on their face.Be sure to go into Zihua, have your driver drop you off at the basketball court - this is the central place where you can kind amazing restaurants along the beach and enjoy the people of Zihua. Sundays there is usually a festival near the basketball court - food, drinks, enjoy the culture. We will be back in Feb 2018 - until then :)
I stayed with my husband and son at the Holiday Inn Ixtapa from February 13th to 17th and overall our stay was great. I have broken down my review based on amenities and experiences below:Room - we stayed in a Garden View room in the 3000 block area and it was very comfortable. Friday and Saturday night was loud until midnight because the sports bar cranks the music pretty loud on these nights but because it was over at midnight is was ok by us. The rest of the week was quiet. I suggest bringing some ear plugs to help block out the noise. I could see other rooms being louder depending on where your room is and the proximity to the sports bar.Beach and Pool - both were great. The beach is beautiful. The water in the ocean is quite rough. If you have young kids you should watch them and not let them go in alone because I think it can be dangerous. But that being said the water is bathtub warm and very pleasant. I liked that there is a quiet pool and more rowdy/bar pool. You can sit at the quiet pool and read or go join the party on the other side. It’s great to have the option! I did find the water in the pool bar pool got quiet dirty by afternoon. We mainly swam in the quiet pool because it was always clean.Staff - fantastic is all I can say. Everyone was friendly, relaxed and helpful. I can’t say enough good things about them.Location – The location is awesome. Its right across the street from restaurants and shops and a short inexpensive cab ride to Zihuatanejo and to the boats to Ixtapa Island. My advice is to not pay for the excursion to Ixtapa just go yourself and you’ll save a lot of money.Food and Drinks – Drinks were fine but unfortunately the food was not. I have been to many resorts and I do not consider myself to be picky but I found it repetitive and just not very good. My son was looking forward to eating the roast turkey at one lunch and I found it was raw and we could not eat it. To me it’s a shame that such a great resort has such low standard of food. If Holiday Inn fixed this problem this resort would have been one of my favourites. Overall I would say if you want a great resort at a great price you can’t go wrong. Just be prepared for some weekend noise and the buy some food from across the street most meals.
We just got back from Ixtapa, again. This was our fourth time to Ixtapa and our fourth time at this resort. The things that keep us going back are not the rooms nor the food. We return for the things we know will not change, such as the location, beach, weather, service and friendly faces of staff and tourists that are there each year. The grounds and pool are well kept, and the beach is perfect. I often enjoy snorkeling in the morning and boogie boarding in the afternoon. This year the snorkeling was exceptional as there were many schools of various fish traveling through. It was fun to experience the pelicans dive bombing the fish from above and below the water surface. I also swam with a sea turtle right out front of the resort. We take boogie boards with us from home and they are also available for purchase across the street. Respect the waves, never turn your back to them and be careful. Before sunset (they want to go home by 6) go to the right and get a massage. Only $10 for an hour. It's about a ten minute walk down the beach and they will find you. I recommend hut 5 or 7. To be honest the food at the resort is average and very repetitive. However I have never eaten anything that I had to spit out. It all tastes good it just lacks on presentation. This year there were more fish dishes that before. Which I enjoyed. Saturday night fiesta is always a highlight filled with all our favorite Mexican dishes. If you get bored with the food there are many great restaurants across the street. We have always stayed in the lower rooms with a garden view. They are very average but we are only there briefly during the day. The beds are comfortable. The shower is hit and miss. We haven't sought a room in the tower because we love the proximity of the lower rooms. We have talked to many guests that have stayed at other resorts in Ixtapa and it all sounds the same. average food and average accommodations so I would recommend going to the best value when you're ready to purchase your trip. The holiday inn has been the cheapest but the other comparable resorts in Ixtapa have become more competitive in recent years. Not many back home have heard of Ixtapa or Zihuatanejo and I sort of like it like that. It is very laid back , uncrowded and extremely safe. We will be returning, and yes probably to the holiday inn. The Holiday Inn is dependable and really takes the guess work out of our vacation. If you find this helpful in any way don't forget to give it a helpful vote. Also for other tips to this location you can read my previous years reviews. Thanks. Oh and a special shout out to our friends working at the resort Jorge, Carlos(the man), Thomas(the jokester), Samuel, Mary-lou, Cleofas(my cousin) Orlando, Lucas and Adolfo for making our trip extraordinary. Also our friends Samuel and Ivan on the beach you guys are always fun to watch and talk with.
Located right in central Ixtapa. Close to shops and restaurants. Food is kind of bland - buffets. Only one a la carte on site. Splurge on the ocean facing rooms. Garden rooms kind of dark. Visit Ixtapa island!
