Great beach, central location, good hotel

Just back from 7 days at Holiday Inn and overall we were pleased. The resort was very busy over the Easter weekend, but that was to be expected. We stayed in the tower (10 floors) and had a fantastic ocean view. We had no issue with the elevator, never waited long. The room was totally updated, very nice, and the AC worked perfectly and was very quiet. This was our 10+ Mexican vacation and the Holiday Inn bed was the best ever, we could hardly believe it! The maid service was impeccable, including the towel figures each day was so fun to see. We appreciated the extra touch. Two buffets (including one air conditioned area) and one al la carte at this smaller resort. There was enough food choices for our liking, so we really have no complaints. The staff worked hard to accommodate the dietary needs of so many guests, all you need to do is ask if there is something you would like. The hotel Mexican fiesta in the square was good, with local dishes, vendors and entertainment. The choices at the bar may be limited compared to other resorts, but again, there is really sufficient options for everyone. We enjoyed the guided bike ride (no charge) and we were happy to see some of the area around Ixtapa on the bike lanes. We took the local bus (12 peso) into Zihou, only 15 minutes ride. Lots of interesting shops and beaches in that area. We also took the local bus (12 peso) to Playa Linda, saw the crocodiles and then the small boat transfer to Ixtapa Island (50 peso) to go snorkelling. It was a fun outing, so would recommend giving this a try. The beach adjacent to the hotel is fantastic. The waves were quite powerful, so ocean swimming was not recommended this time of year. The stores and restaurants just across street from hotel are good place to shop for your tequila and other souvenirs. The streets are safe to explore including in the evening, as we often strolled most evenings. Our biggest complaint was that people reserve seats with their towels very, very early each morning and then the seats are not occupied for most of the day. One day, after sitting in the sun for 4 hours we returned the abandoned towels to the hotel staff and took over the seats in the shade. We wish the hotel would enforce a no reserve seat policy, as this is a big (and avoidable) problem, especially when the hotel is busy. This is a great area to visit and the Holiday Inn was a good central hub, we would be happy to return.

Wont Be Back!

I am sorry to have to say I wont be back! Our family went in April and the weather was fabulous! The hotel is fairly clean and quite small. The employees are great and will help you anytime. When we arrived we were given a room that brought tears to my eyes as it was horrid! We were able to change rooms and it was much better. We were there just before Easter so the place was packed! We were unable to get chairs as people were reserving them early in the morning but not using them until closer to evening. There were many vendors on the beach and we were asked about every five minutes if we wanted to buy something. The water was very rough and I worried that someone would drown. The food was not the greatest and with so many reviews coming in on how bad the food is I don't understand why the hotel hasn't improved in this department. All in all I hope that the hotel will considering taking these reviews seriously. With so many of the same comments we cant all be wrong!

Beautiful clean beach, nice clean rooms, decent food and a terrific area of Mexico

My wife and I stayed for 7 days and traveled with Air Canada Vacations. Arrived at the airport around the same time as another flight so getting through the airport and picking up baggage seemed to take a while but probably no longer than anywhere else. Our transportation to Hotel was a full sized bus that was filled to capacity, all going to the Holiday Inn. There was a guy selling cold beer on the bus for 50 pesos and our Air Canada rep was very informative on the short 25 min. ride. Check in was pretty quick and we were really happy with our "pool view" room. We were on the second floor and looked over the quiet pool and the ocean! Had our own patio with table and chairs where we enjoyed our morning coffee and a glass of wine or two watching the amazing Ixtapa sunsets. Can't say enough about the cleaning staff and the wonderful towel sculptures and flower designs on our pillows. They even left my wife a charming bracelet the day before we left.Bar and restaurant staff were pleasant, attentive and helpful. Read a lot of reviews before we left about the food being just OK and boring but we found it good. Breakfast buffet was always good. Lots of fresh fruit. Bacon and eggs to order or you could have cereal and yogurt. Lunches at the snack bar were great. I had fish tacos, burger and fries and salads. Or, you could go to the buffet for soup, salad , etc. This was our 10th trip to Mexico having been to Mazatlan, Bucerias, Puerto Vallarta and Playa Del Carmen. We seldom ventured too far away from any resort at night but once we discovered the pubs and restaurants across the street we were hooked. We went out for a couple of dinners and over for drinks and some live music another night. Very clean and very safe area. Lots of fun.Another first, bus ride to Playa Linda. Bus was full with local people heading to and from work. I had to hang out the back standing on the bottom step. What a ride. To sum things up this a great inexpensive, clean resort in a great location that caters to anyone who stays there regardless where you are from. Canada, USA and yes even Mexico! We are already planning to go back next year and explore more of the area and what it has to offer.

Mexican Resort

Mexican friendly resort. Caters to alot of inland Mexicans. Food is average, dull after awhile.. Beach is awesome. The ocean is rough. Drinks are horrible- too strong and they didn't know how to make most drinks we asked for. The resort gets flooded with Mexicans on weekends.. the service starts to suffer as a result. Lots of restaurants and shops across the street. Cabs are easy to get and buses... beautiful weather.. sunny and hot.. this is an older resort.. needs some upgrades, but you get what you pay for. Atmosphere is very Mexican authentic I felt... would we go back? Probably not.. but we are glad we came to this resort. The pools are good, but yes, the pool bar gets flooded with little kids. No mini fridge or bar in our room. A/c worked half the time.Overall a good family trip. 6.5/10 for us.

This is not a 4 star resort FYI. It's not even a 2. Horrible resort. Food is bad. Service is bad. Pool service is bad, no towels, no chairs. Says all inclusive, however half of their menu you have to pay extra and to have water in the room is extra. No mini bar fridge available. No 24 hour snacks or drinks available. Breakfast was probably the worst, we ate out instead the entire time there. The driveway/walkway is pretty if you like hiking on big stones, definitely can break an ankle. The west jet rep at this resort is quite rude and wasn't helpful. You'll be lucky to get out of the tower elevators (20 floors) when leaving because there are only 2, that can fit maybe 4 people. It took us over half our to get an elevator that we could fit into (2 of us). Horrible. We won't be coming back to this resort. Next door is way better. We got stuck here for 1 night. Imagine 7! Glad to be going home.
