Our Opinion

Like the Tesoro Ixtapa, this is an older building and probably more along the lines of a 3.5 star rather than a 4 star. The location is good, right in the hotel zone and the pool has a swim up bar with lots of activities going on. A combination of low-rise and a high rise building, the Holiday Inn Resort is a good choice for those who want to be in the hotel zone.

Overview
On Mexico's gold coast, this resort offers a beachfront location and a backdrop of the Sierra Madre del Sur mountains. There is also plenty to fill your itinerary, but if you want to venture out, you'll find snorkeling, swimming with dolphins, a crocodile habitat and shopping nearby.

Location: Right on El Palmar beach, 15 minute drive to Zihuatanejo, 25 minutes from the airport.

Location A1

I booked this holiday for my wife's 40th as a surprise, and being my third time to Ixtapa and second to the Holiday Inn ( formerly the Presidente ) I was still impressed with the resort. It is very clean and the staff is absolutely amazing!!! I recommend booking the beachfront rooms, they are a little more but well worth it!!! the food however was lacking a little bit it, the selection was not what I remembered it to be but the beach makes up for it. It is stunning one of my favorite places to travel, it always feels like home. With the shops and restaurants directly across the street when you're travelling with an 11 and 4 year old it is the perfect location without having to get in a taxi to go anywhere, perfect location right in the middle of the beach and the hotel strip.....

Mediocre, but good for budget conscious travelers

My fiance' and I stayed here 5/31-6/4. The weather was perfect and the hotel has really nice beach area. The hotel is average. The rooms could use some updating, but they are clean and the ocean view was amazing. We had a balcony room which was nice but the balcony was full of bugs because of the plants. As a result we did not spend much time on the balcony which actually had amazing views. The staff is very friendly and accommodating and the pools are some of the cleanest I've ever seen. We had some highs and lows with the food. But all in all, we didn't starve. I'd return for a quick 2-3 day getaway.

Middle of the road

We we given a dungeon room in the basement. The food is mediocre and boring. The surf is very strong. Kids packed the pools with their float toys. No interesting entertainment at night. Keys often demagnetized.

Pros and cons but I wouldn't return

A friend and I stayed at the Holiday Inn Resort in Ixtapa the first week of March - great weather in Ixtapa. The resort is old yet clean which is a huge plus. The beach is nice but the water is too rough for swimming (I hoped to swim). The reason I would not return is the food, the food was terrible! I was given raw hotdogs, hard potatoes, pasty pasta ...there was a general theme of under cooked or overcooked bland food. They served fresh guacamole once the entire week and fresh salsa twice. I go to Mexico for the guacamole and salsa ... And, it appears the bacon is rationed (only receive if requested). If you wanted a non-alcohol soda/pop, you had to ask for it ...couldn't self serve any beverages, including milk. Again it was like they were rationing food. We paid about 1,300.00 each for the week, I would have readily spent more elsewhere for edible food. Thankfully there are several good restaurants across the street. A lot of people from this resort ate elsewhere from observation. The alcohol drinks were OK, nothing special. I LOVE Margaritas but not so much here ...Pina Colada was better. In conclusion, several staff were nice but I wouldn't return to this resort.
