Location: 15 min walk into the town of San Jose del Cabo, 45 min drive to Cabo San Lucas, 20 min drive from the airport.
Bienvenidos a Mexico! A destination wedding is never a bad idea, and when it's in Cabo, then it is a great idea. The forecast is almost always sunny in Cabo and early October in 2016 was not only sunny, but way above average temps. This midwesterner is not complaining one bit. I'll take 92 and 12 hours of sun any time. Ok, so let's get down to the review business:The Resort Exterior/Grounds/PoolsThe Barcelo offers a nice looking exterior, cool brown color tones and immaculately kept grounds. The greenery was a really nice touch to see and seeing groundskeepers working daily to keep the health of the grounds helped me appreciate where I was staying. The resort welcomes you with a massive entry area and friendly staff greet you to and check your luggage. If you get the VIP all-inclusive, there is a separate area for your check-in which is located in the Premium lounge (more on that later). This was a nice touch for those who spent the extra dollars for this plan. The premium loune was virtually empty and check-in took about 5 minutes. There was an extremely large lobby bar with a stage for live music. A few pool tables, lots of seating area and a balcony setup with ocean views and a massive aquarium that backdropped the bar helps you realize the expense the developers planned for this place. There is also a convenience/souvenier store a boutique spa and decent fitness facility. Everything about this place speaks 4 star in my experience. The swimming pool setup is pretty sweet. If you are one who enjoys a drink or 5 while on vacation, then purchase the all-inclusive plan and drink up at the swim up bar and enjoy some bar food snacks while you're at it. A waiter or two will wait on your while you are soaking up rays in your pool chair, but don't expect hurried service as there is really only one or two guys working hard to service everyone. The largest pool offers shallow 1 foot sections to sit/lay and get some sun and a massive 5 foot deep main pool area and typically this is where the families hang out. There is an activities pool with a volleyball net, a basketball hoop and morning water aerobics. FUN!! Finally, there is a relaxing salt water infinity pool that overlooks the beach and ocean. This is the smallest pool, but almost always void of children and full of thirsty adults. ** If you want to enjoy premium brand liquors, then get the top level all-inclusive as it's not much more $ and absolutely worth it. With the top level All Inclusive, you gain access to the Premium Lounge, which contains a mini buffet serving breakfast lunch and dinner. I was most impressed with the coffee machine, which poured a fantastic lattee, cappuccino, macchiato or an Americano. There are several tables, a waiter on hand and a few couches to lounge around a watch satellite TV. Lastly, the lounge sports a large liquor cabinet with 3 wall shelves absolutely stocked full of premium brand liquors: Top shelf vodkas, rums, whiskey/bourbons, scotch, etc. A mini fridge with water, sodas, juices and an ice machine. Did I mention this was a "make your own drink" station? Yes, grab your own glass and pour your own drink. Dangerous haha. The room:With our Premium All Inclusive we also got an upgraded room from an ocean view to an ocean FRONT. This meant that we were significantly closer to the ocean and literally facing the ocean. We also had a corner unit facing the ocean so we had a large wrap-around balcony. The room itself was average in size and the mattress was pretty darn firm. The linens were not high quality, neither was the TV. If they resort ever decides to invest some money in upgrading the rooms, then they can make a good case for justifying a rate increase per night. Considering how much 4 nights/5 days cost us with the premium All-inclusive, I wasn't expecting greatness from the room quality. It was nice, the AC worked well too and the shower was nice too. One of the unit upgrade "features" was a jetted tub in the room, which is a dated feature and probably only gets rare usage. In all, the room was the least impressive thing about the resort, but since little time is spent in the room daily, it's not a huge deal. Again, this is a 4 star economy resort.Restaurants:There are 2 restaurants which serve breakfast/lunch/dinner buffets daily and depending on the capacity of the resort may alternate days that they are open. Early October is about half capacity this year, so it was nice to eat when we wanted and not have to wait at all. The food is good at the buffets and the buffets are massive with a wide variety of foods to choose from, including a pasta station. The breakfast buffet was my favorite time of day as I got to enjoy an awesome coffee from the premium lounge along with a pastry and some kind of egg concoction and then meet in the buffet restaurant to indulge in the rest of the food. Omelette station, mimosas, belgian waffles, meats, eggs, pastries, kids station, etc etc etc. You get the idea. There are two "fine dining" style restaurants, which require reservations be made via phone b/w 10 am to 3 pm the day of. The restaurants are Italian and Mexican cuisine.A weird rule these had was that any males attending dinner needs to wear long pants. I didn't pack any so I had to borrow some, but that's a rule they can do without. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~BONUS FEATURE: There is a Sky Bar, literally located on top of the resort with breathtaking and unobstructed panoramic views of the beach and city scape and mountains. There is an elevator that takes you way up to the top (See pics). This is a sports bar, with a bartender manning the joing. The bar is a circle with plenty of bar and table seating. I watched the baseball playoffs up there while enjoying plenty of free drinks! No food up there but exactly one story below the sky bar is a small restaurant that serves a variety of specialty items which are posted nightly. This is a great idea as it offers a unique option from other Mexican All-inclusive resorts I've been to. You don't want to miss this~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Nearby thing to do: about a 5 minute walk away is a bar/restaurant called Rock n Brew, which is owned by Gene Simmons. This is a rockin place with a live DJ playing requests all night and also locally brewed beers on tap! So if you aren't big on light mexican beer, like Modelo, this is a great alternative option. I'll write a review on this place under my restaurant/bars review if you want to check that out.I will also write about other places I visited in Cabo, so check out all the reviews, with some pics from Cabo!In summary, for what you end up paying per night, this is a great resort option. The location in San Jose Del Cabo is kind of far from all the activities and night life that Cabo San Lucas offers and is about a $40 cab ride, so that's not convenient, but if you want to eat, drink check out views of the sea and in my case, watch some dear friends get married, then this is an option hard to beat.
My man & I enjoyed 6 nights over Labor Day weekend celebrating a milestone birthday. We stayed in the presidential suite. It was clean, large and had a beautiful, tho somewhat limited view. Loved the jacuzzi tub on the balcony. Getting enough beer stocked in the fridge was a bit challenging, but for the most part the all inclusive service was good. The property is beautiful. Loved the iguanas roaming the grounds. There were plenty of lounge chairs around the pools and the poolside service was great. Enjoyed the nightly entertainment. We did have an exciting visit from Hurricane Newton which was a bit of a birthday surprise! Was kinda crazy being we are from So Cal and never experienced a hurricane. The hotel staff didn't give any advance notice, nor did they give us any instructions or advice. We did survive (obviously) however would have preferred to have been better prepared. Overall we enjoyed our vacation but will certainly stay in Cabo San Lucas next time.
Well......not everything in life is perfect.....and the Barcelo come close ......but always a but........To beging...somebody made a mistake in our room reservation....not a big deal...room still clean, big, good shower...and a little of a view.....But somebody (supervisor,manager..etc) must have somehow contacts us doing our stay to imform us who's mistake was.... on our 7 days NO one come to talk to us...???? In balance there more pros then cons.....will we go back......hummm....We were there for our 37 aniversary... and even the have a note from the travel agency and a leats 2 emails it was never mentions .... again..hummmm!!!
We recently stayed at Barceló for 1 week with our 2 years old. This being our first time in Los Cabos and the first out-of-country trip for our little one, we didn't know quite what to expect.Fortunately, our stay was a comfortable and relaxing (well, as relaxed as you can get with a hyperactive toddler anyway) one, thanks in no small part to the wonderful staff at the facility. Everyone was courteous and friendly and at no time did we ever feel the service was inadequate. We were provided with a full-sized crib for our child, and anything else we needed, we just had to ask and it was delivered promptly. We certainly appreciated the various regularly scheduled activities on the resort as our adventuring options were more limited with a small child in tow. The Mexican Fiesta on Friday night was definitely a delight! The facility itself was undergoing some repainting and other exterior remediation work during our stay, which, given the climate, is not unexpected and certainly understandable (and is probably not an issue by the time you go if you're reading this as you're planning your trip). The various restaurants on the resort were all quite nice and the food was great (loved the ceviche). Although I can't speak for how the place looks in other times of the year, during our stay the resort felt calm and quaint. I'd imagine the place would be much more busy and energetic during peak holiday seasons. Mind you, the place has evening concerts and shows almost every night and doesn't quiet down until after 10PM, so it definitely doesn't lack in action. And as I had had promised to him, I can't finish without mentioning Gustavo, who is certainly a joyful character who knows how to put a smile on your face. He's always front and center in many of the activities that take place in the resort and they're definitely worth participating in just to enjoy his energy and enthusiasm. Of course, all of the other staffs were great, with just the right mix of professionalism and humor that puts you at ease. This is Barceló's biggest strength and definitely makes you want to go back.On a side note, the Premium Club package is definitely the way to go as the experience probably would have been more hampered if we didn't get to enjoy the perks included in the package.
My daughter and I once again booked a last minute trip to Cabo. We had been to this property the year before and had such a good experience that we chose to return. Upon check in we found that our room was facing outside to the new construction. The view was all concrete with a porta potty right there. When I spoke to the front desk and told them this was my second trip to the resort and that I wasn't happy with the location of the room they quickly moved us to an ocean view room. The rooms were clean though often we had to call for clean towels as they hadn't been replaced when the room was clean, leaving us with no towels. The staff are friendly and helpful. The food and drinks are amazing. We will definitely be returning.
