My husband and I stayed at Barceló for 5 nights just after the storm at the end of August/beginning of September. We enjoy food but wouldn’t call ourselves foodies. We’ve never been to an all-inclusive before but were looking for a relaxing vacation rather than a go-go-go, sightseeing trip.Pros:1. Our package included roundtrip airport shuttle – on time, easy to find, good service.2. Deluxe Room – spacious, on the 4th floor and partial oceanview.3. Hospitality, for the most part, was pretty good.4. We went after the storm and during shoulder season so we could always get a lounge chair. Maybe not in the spot we wanted but it was always available.5. Beautiful infinity pool overlooking the beach.6. The service at the pool and pool bar was wonderful. The server would replace my half-finished, warm beer with a cold on without even asking me!7. Live entertainment (usually after dinner time) was fun but only happened 2 out of 5 nights.8. We didn’t pay for WiFi and we didn’t miss it. We read, relaxed, and enjoyed the pool.9. Taquitos, nachos, and chicken nuggets were usually available at the poolside snackbar.Cons:1. We knew we could not swim in the sea but the beach had rundown pergola and was a bit dirty and not just because of the storm.2. The cleaning staff are friendly but even if you do not want to be disturbed, the front desk doesn’t tell them and they still come in to clean.3. Because of the storm, the elevators did not work for a few days. They were able to get it working in Tower 1 only so we took the stairs to our room every day.4. The $500 Resort Credit that came with our package was only a DISCOUNT book (please see attached photo). You have to spend money in order to use the discount. There is no credit. I would not recommending taking this “credit” into consideration about whether you should stay here.5. Live entertainment was only outdoors by the bar lounge. No entertainment indoors.6. Unless you paid for the VIP package, room service has a 1200 pesos charge plus 10% service fee. So EACH item was $10 CAD and some items were not even available.7. The food was not very good. a. Overcooked – 99% of the time. b. Marinating and seasoning would benefit their meat and seafood. c. Too much sauce and not enough flavour. d. The majority of the time, the food was either frozen or made somewhere else. It’s hard to maintain a level of consistency so I can understand outsourcing but the quality and flavour was not there. e. The tower restaurant that serves sushi was closed and not just because of the storm. Spoke with a guest who has been there for a month and he has never seen it open. f. There was one buffet for breakfast, lunch, and dinner and one a la carte restaurant for dinner with rotating a rotating menu: Seafood, Italian, and Mexican. g. The ITALIAN food was abysmal. The seafood was frozen and overcooked. The Mexican food was AMAZING. h. Inconsistency with servers. Some are attentive, while others ignore you. And we were one of the few people who tipped consistently.I would also like to note that the resort is beautiful but in need of some general repairs. I did not list this need as a con because it must be expensive to maintain a resort of this size and the general repairs/maintenance did not take away from the overall beauty and peace of the resort.Overall – the Barceló offered a true vacation. After the airfare and the vacation package agency cut, it was $200 CAD a day for the hotel room and unlimited food and beverages for two people, which is a pretty good deal. The resort, pool, and the staff are nice and I really hope they have Mexican food available all day, every day because that’s where the kitchen really shines!
THIS HOTEL IS NOT IN CABO SAN LUCAS. CABO SAN LUCAS IS 20-30 MINUTES AWAY. $40 EACH WAY BY TAXI. If your looking for fun and adventure, San Jose is not the place to stay. You want to find a hotel in San Lucas, not San Jose. Now that I got that out of the way. This hotel is the worst and I've stayed in other resorts in the Barcelo portfolio. From the restaurants being closed, to the roaches we saw in the room, to the air conditioner clunking out what seemed like every day... it was just horrible. I will list all the things that were unacceptable. 1. We stayed 7 days and we found roaches in our room 4 of those seven. Once back home, took our luggage on the back porch and shook each piece of clothing out.2. Some guy put his key in the door and tried to open it, despite the do not disturb sign. Only thing stopped him was the extra lock we put on the door when in the room and my husband yelling WTF!? He went on to apologize and closed it back.3. Only one restaurant was open and it was fully booked by 9 am.4. The buffet was disgusting and of the lowest quality. There was not a lot of variety and they didn't change the table cloths after each seating. They just wiped the crumbs and reset the place settings, laying the silverware flat on the dirty table cloth. 5. There were no rugs and the humility kept the floor wet. We had to use towels to keep the floors dry and keep from slipping.6. There were never any hand towels available and this was my first time not brings our sets from home so I was devastated. 7. The policy for dress code in the buffet changed three times in our 7 day stay.8. I asked that our sheets be changed and the housekeeper put dirty sheets on the bed and I had to ask her to take them off. 9. There were times we were forbidden by Security to go on the beach.10. The drinks were watered down and disgusting. Spend a little extra and go somewhere where you can enjoy yourself.
We visited here in August. I think it was our 4th or 5th visit. For some reason, this time, the snack bar by the swim up bar did not have guacamole. To get it, one had to get dressed and go to the restaurant near by. Bummer, since it's my boyfriend's favorite food. Irene, at the snack bar, started bringing a container of it and storing it under the counter for him every day- so sweet! And then, on our last morning there, they brought out a big platter with chips and guacamole and presented it to him to eat before we left. All the snack bar and bar employees were very fun, nice, and helpful. Can't wait to go back.
Me and 5 of my friends went to Cabo for a bachelorette party, we stayed at Barcelo Gran Faro Los Cabo's. We absolutely loved it here! The resort was gorgeous and the staff was incredible, they were very friendly and attentive. They did everything they could to make us feel at home. The drinks are superb, go to the up stairs bar and ask Juan for a special shot and the cookie shot, you won't be disappointed. Jorge was a fantastic server he always made sure we had a drink at hand while we were at the pool! The food is soooo delicious, make sure you are up early for breakfast! You won't want to miss it! Go check out Barcelo, you will not regret it!!!!
Made our second trip to this hotel since 2016, it was just as great the second time. Check-in was great with Lizbeth and Luis and our bellhop Rafael was exceptional, he has only been there a couple of months but was a very impressive young man with a congenial attitude. We remembered Mari Lopez the restaurant hostess from our last stay and she was a jewel this year too. We were a little disappointed that in the 9 nights we were there they only used the patio area behind the offices once for a Mexican buffet, we really enjoyed the parties there last year. We are hopeful that with the recent hurricane there was not too much damage, we would love to come back.
