Fiesta Americana Grand Los Cabos

Very comfortable accommodations and superior food, including room service which we used on 2 separate occasions. ( food arrived hot was very tasty). Restaurants on the property are no reservations but we never had to wait....The Peninsula, by the beach was very good, but my favorites were, The Cevicheria and La Bodega (steak!), The Mexicano served a dish called, Lingua ala Vera Cruz that was incredible!Service by the pool was also exceptional, Carlos was quick to return with our orders and very gracious! The nightclub, Black Lemon, was delightful ALL of the staff should be commended for their spoiling of the guests! My husband and I were planning our next visit on the plane ride home....
Our stay at the Grand Fiesta Americana was awesome. We owe the wonderful experience to Edgar Alvarez. He has done a tremendous job of making us feel at home. We cant say enough about Edgar. He was telling us about a possible trip he could win to go to Breckenridge Colorado. If we could vote to give that trip to anyone it would Be Edgar Alvarez he is the best employee that your resort has by far.
My travel advisor worked closely with me to choose the Grand Fiesta Americana and I couldn't have been more pleased. From the moment I arrived to departure the service was five star. The rooms were fabulous, mini bars well stocked, pool service top notch, restaurants had a variety of food from a burger to gourmet - all delicious!!! It is situated on the Sea of Cortez - no roads to cross - you can snorkel with the beautiful fish or just sit on the rocks and let them nibble on your toes. I will definitely make another trip here in the very near future.
No one greeted us at check-in, which was very chaotic and disorganized. It was absolute pandemonium in the lobby and no one directed us to the check-in area despite us looking bewildered on where to go. Upon check-in, no one offers to give you a tour of the property or discuss any amenities/offerings of the resort. The next day the concierge called and said “we missed you yesterday and would like to sit down and talk to you” – but don’t fall for this, it’s a timeshare trapAC controller in room was not working (so the AC would come on - but there was no way to adjust the temperature) and AC would turn on everytime you opened a door - which means you always would come back to a freezing room. The property is incredibly un-walkable and not designed well at all. Our room was extremely far from restaurants and pools, requiring golf carts to take you everywhere, and golf carts could sometimes take up to 30min to arrive (or they just wouldn’t show up at all). Additionally, the golf carts could only take you from the room to the lobby, requiring you to walk even further to your final destination. Golf cart drivers were unknowledgable about where certain amenities were on the property (I tried to go to the Spa and they didn’t know where it was). Additionally, signage was lacking and you were left exploring random paths to find your way around (sometimes all uphill - so prepare to do some serious walking/climbing). Adding to the confusion were elevators that had numbers for floors that did not even exist.Alleged “Infinity pools” were NOT infinity, no flowing water. This happens when resorts are lazy and don’t refill water levels to achieve the flowing cascade of water that occurs in real infinity pools.Food service at every restaurant was abysmal. Waiters could not have cared less and dinner service took a minimum of 2.5 hours (one of ours took over 3 hours) and this was with us flagging down anyone we could for requests. Upon being seated, we did not ever receive water or an ordered beverage sooner that 20-30 min in to arriving. Waiters avoid eye contact and continually “forget” your requests so you have to ask multiple times for simple things like sweetener or a straw.Food was incredibly mediocre to bad, depending on the item. Menu items would sound delicious, but when the food arrived it was very bland and a far cry from what was described on the menu. The only good food we had was from the breakfast buffet (waffles and omelettes were delicious), as well as the chips with guacamole or nachos served by the pool.We told the hostess on 2 separate nights that we were celebrating special occasions (wife’s birthday), and both nights they did absolutely nothing (we thought perhaps they could write happy birthday on one of the desserts or at a minimum, extend a “happy birthday” wish)Spa reservation was made before arriving to the resort. The day of the appointment, we called the spa in the morning to reschedule the treatment to 1 hour later. A staff member confirmed this on the phone and said that would be fine. When my wife arrived at the spa, the front attendant was on the phone for 10-15 minutes and did not acknowledge her once or have anyone else assist. She sat and waited for the phone call to end and when she tried to check in she was told she didn’t have an appointment and that she missed her earlier time slot. Apparently there was no note of the adjustment. Additionally, they could not fit her in and did nothing to make it right. On our last night, we were told that there was a “Mexican buffet” only to learn that it was just a guy grilling tacos (no other options, including no vegetarian options for wife)The Concierge was extremely unhelpful, especially after hours. For example, we called to ask which restaurants were open one night and were told “all of them”. I was doubtful of this and called a second time a few minutes later, and when the same guy answered, he said something completely different. This was not an isolated experience. Concierge staff was very unknowledgable about the resort, restaurants, and amenities and continously provided incorrect information. The only service staff that actually cared seemed to be the pool and beach service staff and the housekeepers – both did stand up jobsWi-fi is extremely shotty (especially in the rooms and on the beach) , and when you inform the concierge, they say “our team is working on it”, but they’ve been “working on it” for years with no improvement based on other reviews.Every time we pulled up in a rental car, including our first arrival, we were never greeted by the valet, and had to flag someone down to even acknowledge us and give us a ticket. Also, the first time we got our car back to drive to lunch, it had a crack in the windshield with no explanation. We reported this to management who was very curt, rude and unhelpful in assisting with a resolution. No organized process for taking a golf cart back to your room from the lobby (no line, whoever gets to the golf cart first gets it). Very chaotic and uncomfortable. We requested a late check out, and the front desk member downright lied to me saying “it’s usually 11am but I’ll let you do 12,” even though regular checkout is at 12pm. When confronted with the fact that we had paperwork in our room saying 12pm was regular check-out, the front desk member continued with the lie, refusing to relent, rather than just saying they could not accommodate a late check out.Overall, for the level of disorganization, incredibly poor service, and downright apathy of most of the staff, this should be a 2 star resort at best. There is no way this place should be listed as a 4.5 star resort. To advertise this as a 4.5 star property should be a crime. It’s extremely misleading to potential guests who have certain expectations of a resort rated with 4.5 stars. If you are looking for a REAL luxury resort, go for One & Only, Las Ventanas, Resort at Pedegral, or Esperana. Extremely disappointing and ruined wife’s birthday. Beware of all the positive reviews, they are from persons who apparently have very low standards.
We had terrific service from the entire staff throughout the week. I would like to give a shout out to several specific employees, Josafat Hernandez for taking such great care of our group poolside everyday, The restaurant Blu and the manager Oscar Garcia, Bartender Luis, servers Oscar Manuel and Juan Raman. They helped make this such a relaxing and enjoyable trip. The entire hotel staff is constantly cleaning and picking up the entire resort! The weather couldn't be beat and we just did not want to go home.
