Solid 4 stars for this property... definitely not a 4.5 or five star! The staff were excellent and food was good. It's an older property which needs a face lift, especially the lobby (very unattractive) and rooms. Overall, it is a good hotel but far from 5 stars, as some companies rate it. Still a good choice if the price is right.


A tropical playground nestled between the Sea of Cortez and the Sierra de San Lazaro Mountains with stunning views. The amenities, facilities and excellent service combine to make the Holiday Inn Resort Los Cabos a beachfront resort with something for everybody.

Location: On the beach. 20 min. from the airport, 3 min. ride to San Jose del Cabo, 30 min to Cabo San Lucas.

Note: Strong currents in this area limit ocean swimming.

Defintely not a 4 Star Resort

Good news first – we booked a partial-ocean view room but were upgraded to a full ocean view room with a large balcony, so thank you Holiday Inn. The resort is well located at the end of the San Jose Del Cabo main hotel zone with oodles of beautiful beach to walk in both directions. It is also a comfortable walking distance to the heart of old San Jose and as well as the newer commercial strip on Paseo Malecon, both of which have great restaurants, bars and shops. Now the bad news. FOOD: There are only two restaurants, a buffet and an a la carte. We knew that when we booked. What we didn’t know is that the a la carte had a very limited menu and is only open occasionally. The buffet food was tasty enough but limited in selection and only lukewarm. There are also service issues, possibly because the a la carte is often closed thus putting pressure on the buffet. The first morning we arrived for breakfast, there were no forks! When it was open, the a la carte patio music was very loud to the point of making conversation difficult. BEVERAGES: The beach & pool bars often closed at 5:00pm rather that 6:00pm or, in the case of one bar, instead of 10:00pm which are the advertised hours. There were no international liquor brands. Plastic cups are rinsed in water and re-used. ROOM: our king size bed was comfortable but the bedroom and bathroom are both very dated. There was no in-room refrigerator in the space provided so no cold water or cerveza. Housekeeping did a good job of cleaning but would run out of towels. GYM: The equipment is old, dirty and barely functional. On one occasion, the air conditioning was off and there was no water or hand wipes to clean the equipment. We have been to Mexico about 15 times in the last 20 years. We always choose 4 or 5 star all-inclusive resorts. Although the location compensated for a lot of shortcomings, the 4 star San Jose Holiday Inn is the first resort to fall well short of our expectations in terms of facilities and amenities. Probably should be rated as a 3 star.

Loved the resort and the staff were fantastic. We will be returning in 2018

We booked in ( 7 of us) and all had `gardenview` reservations. 2 couples were given rooms facing the roof of the Spa building and a parking lot. Another couple and a single occupancy guest were given ocean view with a balcony . Although we did not complain and stayed in our given room for the 10 days - I had to wonder how the front hotel parking lot and the top roof of the spa building would be considered "gardenview". Other than that the food was excellent as were all the staff we encountered. Lili/ Alan at the activity pool, Noe, Camero , Eli and Luis as the bars, Montserrat at the front desk along with Perla, from bell staff and housekeeping to mention only a few. We will definitely return to this resort but hopefully the view will be much more pleasant next year at least for some of us. Hotel Security could be a little quicker when it came to the loud drunks being disruptive to the other guests on site. Having them removed sooner than later would have put others at ease rather than the nice / sober guests having to get up and leave the bar while the drunken / rude ones lingered around to continue with their barrage of foul mouthed language and ignorant behaviour.

Love this place!!

We just spent 9 days at this resort (our third visit). Our room in the 4000 building was on the first floor with a beautiful ocean view and a hammock on the terrace.The buffet is always fresh and appetizing, with wonderful choices and tons of fruit and vegetables available all day. The restaurant on the beach serves lunch and dinner daily, with full waiter service. Room service is also available. We loved the cappuccino and latte machines. Fabulous desserts at lunch and dinner!They offer daily bike tours, aqua aerobics in the main pool (they have a separate quiet adult pool and a large kid friendly pool. There are activities scheduled every day around the main pool. !! The gym has treadmills, ellipticals, stationary bikes, weight machines, etc.The service is great and the staff very friendly and accommodating.The best part is the beaches with Tiki huts, no crowds!!Our room was clean and comfortable, bottled water and coffee was replenished every day.We will be back next year! The perfect R&R vacation, but if you are adventurous, I would recommend "Monster Zip Line" with 8 zip lines (the last one a 1/2 mile long), round trip transportation is included.

Loved the resort but not the few who drank too much.

I found the resort charming. Unlike its monster neighbours, it was built on a human scale with many quaint corners and interesting nooks and with no more than three floors. It reminded me of a Frank Lloyd Wright home. One could not ask for a more pleasant and hard working staff. They could not be blamed for anything annoying. From helpful Montserrat on the front desk to friendly and amusing Johnathon in the outdoor a la carte restaurant, the staff were wonderful. The grounds too were captivating with palm trees that framed perfect sunrises and sunsets. It was a paradise of sorts. Magnificent surf entertained hundreds of guests.However, the no-charge booze spoiled our experience at the resort. Sometimes an uninhibited drunk would hold court at the adult pool shouting to all whatever came into his or her undisciplined head. Why do some women need to scream after four or five drinks? And some drunk men think their witless humour must be heard by all. In the wonderful outdoor restaurant a few would hold the majority hostage to their brainless declarations. "Give us a break!!!!" Thank goodness they were by far in the minority but it's hard to believe that so few can spoil so much for others. And this did not occur every night by any means. I must blame management for this. I saw or heard no code of conduct described or enforced. My fault? And I like to have a drink or two as does my wife. Since this is not a new hotel the drunk problem (as I see it) carries over to some rooms. There seems to be little sound insulation. Again we had a nice room overlooking the adult pool with a big balcony. Perfect! But about midnight a man and wife returned to their room on floor three. Somehow their loud argument including shouts and screams filtered into out room through a duct or vent. It ended with loud laughter so no one was hurt but it was unnerving as who knew when it would happen again? I had trouble sleeping most nights. We asked to be moved but were told the couple would leave that day. Phew! Later another couple had a terrible exchange late at night with the husband shouting angrily at his wife in profane language. This unsettled us again in our room below. We were told by others that there had been a drunk couple who would appear at the bar and the man would belittle his wife who later fell over trying to walk back to her room. Same couple? I think the hotel should manage drinking more effectively if they want some customers to return. We will not. We had a two week stay and I would gladly have left a week earlier. And as I have said, the staff were terrific!!!!!!!!!!!

Location excellent - safe & Quiet resort with excellent staff. Much walking to areas of interest.

2nd floor room - only complaint musty & very poor lighting. Room cleaning staff excellent.No hot tub - miss this amenityMain pool - warm, clean with excellent pool bar serviceEntertainment - poolside provided by Alan & partly by Lily. Alan was excellent entertainer with clear voice. Excellent English skills. Good repore with the guests. Totally enjoyed his warm, caring , fun personalityOther bar by restaurant - Luis barkeeper very service oriented, hard working & great with peopleBuffet - food cold 75% of time? Know had warmer burners underneath. 90 % of meat dishes had hot sauces (peppers, etc). I was not able to eat much meat/protein during 7 day stay. This was our 2nd trip to this resort & food excellent in 2016. Safe San Jose location to walk off resort!
