Our Opinion

Solid 4 stars for this property... definitely not a 4.5 or five star! The staff were excellent and food was good. It's an older property which needs a face lift, especially the lobby (very unattractive) and rooms. Overall, it is a good hotel but far from 5 stars, as some companies rate it. Still a good choice if the price is right.


Overview

A tropical playground nestled between the Sea of Cortez and the Sierra de San Lazaro Mountains with stunning views. The amenities, facilities and excellent service combine to make the Holiday Inn Resort Los Cabos a beachfront resort with something for everybody.

Location: On the beach. 20 min. from the airport, 3 min. ride to San Jose del Cabo, 30 min to Cabo San Lucas.

Note: Strong currents in this area limit ocean swimming.

Newer, clean resort with great staff

This resort was rebuild three + years ago after it was hit by a hurricane. Rooms are clean, bright, and beds are comfy. All the staff is really responsive. All rooms look out onto the pools and ocean view. Lots of pools, chairs, and choices for pool areas. Best fish tacos at the Azul restaurant. Breakfasts are good, too. While you will not go hungry here, there really is no fine or upscale dining to be had.

The most honest review

My wife and I are presently at the hotel for a two week vacation. We are currently on day 4 and thought I'd write a quick review. Well what I can see after only 4 days is if you do have any complaints about this place..... you must be of high maintenance. Absolutely no complaints right now. People who complain about the staff here, you definitely have the problem. What I can see is that they work their butts off. I will write a final review in 10 more days. Your honest review guy.

Just big enough

This was our first time at Cabo after several visits to other parts of Mexico. The resort is a good medium size resort. Not too big or too small. The rooms, especially the bathroom could use some updating and especially more lighting. The beds were very comfortable. The room (2211) didn't have a balcony, which was a disappointment. The large window had a block affixed so it couldn't be opened more than five inches. The weather was quite nice and the AC quite loud; it would have been more comfortable and cost efficient to leave the window open. The beach in front of the resort is the largest I've ever seen. There were red and black flags out the whole week we were there, so enjoying the sea was limited. We did see whales from the beach when we took a horse ride one morning. The resort needs more chaises on the beach. There were only about 20 chaises and 6-7 palm shelters. Most of the chaises were around the three pools. The largest pool is very crowded and noisy with activities. The hidden gem was the adult pool on the east side of the resort. Very quiet and very few guests, but it still has an excellent bar for drinks. The one downside of this pool was the lack of a pool heat. The food was good at all of the locations. For lunch try the fish tacos at the ala carte restaurant next to beach or the buffet in the main restaurant. For dinner, the ala carte is the place to go. Delicious and fantastic service. We had Arnoldo and he was the best waiter we ever had! He was funny, polite, and make great suggestions for choices.

Great vacation

While hotel it self is very good , things around are not clean you cannot go to the beach ...horse poop is everywhere I do t know y hotel cannot take care of cleanliness of the bech too and garbage all over the beach ....being it a resort time local people don't respect their own place which brings all the business... Food is average at the best and service is nothing great ...you have to tip everytime you need service or waiters will ignore you...Rooms are good , house keeping staff are great ....Be aware of the photo shop and other services you can bargain on almost every thing in resort and out side in most cases more than half....Prices are unbelievable for additional services...

Needs a little help

With some help, I think this place could improve the ratings. Hate to complain when I'm in Cabo and having an excellent time and none of the items below ruined our trip but just some suggestions. 4 main items to comment on; room, food/drink, staff, everything else. The room is a room. We have these small bugs that are around from time to time, mainly in the bathroom. The bathroom is older, the room is not the quietest but the bed is comfy and the shower is hot(my number 1 requirement for even a decent review)The food/drink are ok. They have only 2 restaurants; a buffet and a sit down. We didn't go to the sit down much because the service was poor/slow(comment on that later). The buffet was exactly what you would expect of a poor buffet. It wasn't wonderful, ever. The skillet is better, if they cook it fresh, but often busy. The oats every morning was milk with 3 or 4 oats in a large bowl with a ladle, if that puts it in perspective. They have these very cool Nescafe Milan machines to make your own fancy coffee drink...Decaf coffee drink and it only works half the time. Most of the time it needed servicing.The staff...they do not have enough staff for the amount of customers they have. The staff was poor, not getting water or drinks until you ask for them at restaurants and never in a cheerful, excited way. But I have to give it to them, they were always running. It wasn't that they were standing around not helping, they were RUNNING around not able to help all the people that came in and out. One morning we had a tour at 720 so we got to breakfast at 650, they didn't open until 7 but fruit was out. At 655 I went to grab some fruit and got yelled at and then was stared down the rest of my breakfast. The staff at the front desk, less than enthused with their job. BUT the activities team, Great! Alan loved his job and he did great at it. Made the entertainment wonderful and inviting for everyone. The only person on the property that truly seemed happy, Alan.Which takes us to the everything else. They had fun shows every night. Not 5 star shows but fun to watch and exciting. There were games in the day to attend and they too were fun or funny. The folks that were there from other companies booking travel were also super helpful. Many of the drivers to and from the hotel were also very nice, grateful and possibly funny. The property is clean and beautiful. Nice walk ways, great pools(not always clean due to the swim up bars) but very large. Hammock outside our room was fun and lots of lounge chairs at the pools. The gym was good, free weights, machines, 4-5 treadmills, 2 ellipticals and 1 bike. I was bummed there were not tv's that worked in the machines but that's a bit much to ask.Like I said, these items can be easily fixed. The quietness of the room and older feel in them not as easily but the rest could be enhanced. Overall, still enjoying our stay. Thanks!
