Starting with the front desk (where Hugo was able to give us a free upgrade to an Executive Suite), everyone on the staff here have exhibited the highest levels of courtesy and professionalism -- perhaps the best of any hotel or resort we've ever been.
We booked through afvc and the resort is beautiful. I just wasn't happy with our room. We were in 3044, we were right to the very right of the front of the pool and our view was tiny and we overlooked the restaurants and heard the air conditioning all day from them. We took a $10 cab to Walmart and stocked up on booze, Sodas (mixers) water, coffee,,breakfast and lunch stuff for $110. We made breakfast and lunch in the room and went to dinner every night. We went to Las guacamayas, LA pintada, maros shrimp house and a Mexican joint on the back strip of the hotel. We saved a ton of money by not going all inclusive and made our own drinks for the beach, nice and strong. The service is horrible on the beach, so I'm glad we did this.
Unfortunately, since converting to all inclusive, it seems like all the Pueblo Bonito properties have gone down hill. We have been owners at Sunset for 12 years and go to all the properties several times per year. We just returned from a week at Sunset and were very disappointed. Poor service and the facilities are lacking in maintenance. Service was so poor at Cilantros at the Blanco that we walked out after 40 minutes. Had not even received any water, let alone our cocktail order or appetizers. Didn't even get an apology when we left. Maid service was lacking. Rarely gave fresh towels, no paper towels in kitchen and had to beg for more TP, shampoo and soap. All the closet drawers were broken, tiles falling off the walls, stairs crumbling and intermittent hot water. Obviously the owner is focusing on the new construction and ignoring existing properties. When we went to check out, we had charges that didn't belong to us on our bill. We had paid for all inclusive and apparently it ended at noon on our second to last day. Never warned and checks continued to say MEAL PLAN, meaning they were part of the all inclusive. However, upon checkout, they tried to charge me another $1500 for my guests charges. Debated the issue with front desk for 2 hours and eventually got half the charges removed. Still got stuck with about $750 in charges I never would have incurred had they either warned in advance or their computers flagged the bills. Have loved Pueblo Bonito for many years, but may have to find a new Cabo resort.
I wanted to take the time to write a review for Enrique Adame. We are staying at the sister resort Pueblo Rosito Rose and wanted to come see the Sunset resort. Enrique took us on a private tour of the resort and gave us the most wonderful, informational tour. He was a gracious host and made us feel so welcome. The hotel is beautiful and has amazing food. We ate at the Marketplace and it was wonderful. Thank you Enrique for making our trip to Sunset so memorable!
My wife and I went to the gym every morning during our two-week stay in order to battle the additional calories consumed due to the all-inclusive excellent food and drinks. My wife did a boot camp class at 7am every other day and a yoga/pilates class at 8am every other day. It's only $15 a class and the classes are excellent. The class size is small and usually done outside on the balcony overlooking the ocean or down on the beach so you get to enjoy the view while you exercise. Alejandro teaches the classes and its obvious he genuinely loves what he does. He is there every morning with a smile on his face and encouraging you through the classes. There were a couple of mornings the classes where very small so it turned into more of a personal training session if that's what you prefer. Alejandro shapes the classes around the needs/wants of the participants and it's different every day. My wife did classes with Alejandro every morning when we were there 3 years ago and was looking forward to being able to do them on this most recent trip as well. We hope Alejandro is there for many years to come. He's so genuinely kind and helpful to all the guests he encounters. He's a pleasure to know and one of the many reasons we'll return to PB at Sunset Beach again.
