Home away from home

Let me start by saying that I've been coming to this resort for 10 years now. This definitely isn't my first rodeo, and coming to Cabo every year, I've learned what to expect. Our family initially bought timeshare at Pueblo Bonito Emerald Bay in Mazatlan. Although it's a beautiful resort, the humid and often stormy weather pushed us to Sunset Beach. This year we traveled with 10 people and it was probably one of the best vacations we've had. Our entire group purchased the All Inclusive package which comes with free Wifi, food, and most drinks including alcohol. If you go to the sister resorts ( Rose and Los Cabos) the AI is also good there. I HIGHLY recommend doing this if you're a foodie and like to drink, considering how fast meals add up. Being poolside all day drinking and eating really takes advantage of the AI package, but if you like to go to town and travel around, I would suggest against it.Some things you should know if you're a newbie to Pueblo Bonito and traveling in Cabo is that it's full of sharks aka timeshare salespeople. We used to be bothered by it but after so many years of coming you just say no thanks and move on or say yes and haggle what you want such as free activities or spa credit at the hotel etc etc. The breakfast itself takes at least 4 hours but it's free and you get something out of it most of the time. Just go at your own risk and be open to the sale! Some good places I recommend at the resort are Zao Shen, a delicious Asian restaurant. The Market at Quivira is new and is basically a beautiful fancy food court with a huge bar in the middle. My favorite places were the Mexican food place and the 50's diner.Last but definitely not least--I never feel the need to but this year I want to give a shout out to some employees that made our stay extra special:ELEZAR who works at the main pool was an awesome server two days in a row! He made sure we sat in his area so that he could give us the best service.EDMAR who works at the 1950's diner at the Market was such a sweetheart! We ate here practically everyday and he always made sure we had what we needed and went above and beyond to help us.JARED also works at the 1950's diner at the Market and not only was he on top of his game as a server, but he was hilarious! Cool guy and awesome service.FORTINO also works at the 1950's diner at the Market and was our waiter several times. Not once did I have to ask for extra this or extra that because he was already two steps ahead. Awesome service!TRINI who works driving the golf carts at the resort was our favorite driver! Anytime he would see us he would say hi or stop by to give us a ride. He gave us all the tips and tricks we needed and was more that kind. IRMA was our awesome maid that made sure our room was spotless and stocked up on things we needed like blankets, pillows and toiletries.Thank you Pueblo Bonito for being our second home, we look forward to many more years with you!

What a surprise!

When we pull in to Pueblo Bonito Sunset Beach, the only thing we can expect is that something will be different than our last experience and usually not for the better. However this year was awesome, for the most part. We were greeted by Hugo Salinas at the Market Reception area and he was fantastic! Check-in was the fastest ever, were apprised of what we needed to know and on our way to begin our vacation in less than ten minutes!!! Anytime we had a question, we contacted Hugo and he always had an answer and was ready to help us. The new Market at Quivira was also a favorite this year. We had exceptional service from a handful of staff up there. Julio, Christopher, Carlos and Felix - you are the best! Alonso and Leonel at the sky pool and Pablo at the main pool were attentive waiters too.Our room wasn't as clean as we've grown accustomed to at other properties and not having a stocked fridge on the all-inclusive plan AND paying $5 per delivery was a disappointment. Golf cart service was slower than we'd expwrienced in the past, but still always fun. Thanks PBSB for another great trip. See you next time!

Beautiful Resort and Fun staff!

Something for everyone. Several pools..some quiet, some for kids and some for those who want to party. Variety of restaurants from buffets to nice restaurants that do require reservations. Leonardo may greet you when you arrive as well as Carlos B who is in charge of golf cart drivers. Since it is built on a hill, you need to ride the golf carts to get around. Many fun drivers, Carlos B is my buddy, (more than 1 Carlos) You don't have to tip every time but you can once in a while or give them a cold bottle of water! They work hard in the sun. You usually do not need to wait long for a cart but you may need to at peak hours or if people are checking in/out. Be patient..they are trying their best.(Watch out, there are staff everyone who will offer you free things to take a tour but they will try to sell you a timeshare..say no thank you) Francisco is a great waiter at the Bistro for breakfast and lunch (can also get dinner) Sunday brunch is great at the La Nao and you will be greeted by Silvia, Yadira, Elena and Mayra. Azugena is a wonderful waitress who is there every day but Saturday. If you go to a theme night Buffel at La Nao you will be greeted by Iran, Aracely and Briando. Juan Carlos M and Jose/Omar are fun waiters there. A great new addition this year is the Market an upscale food court with everything from gelato, Starbucks like coffee bar, restaurants and a bar. At the 1950's restaurant you will be greeted by Gloria for breakfast or lunch and ask for Marcos or Jared. They love to dance and sing while working! You also can get free shuttles to the Rose or Blanco hotels where you can use the restaurants if you get the inclusive plan and swim on the beach since you can't swim at Sunset. You can also buy things on the beach. Can also get Vans to the Quivira Golf resort where you will be greeted by Valerie and ask for Saul to be your waiter or take a short ride to the adult only hotel, Pacifico. You can be casual or resort attire (sundresses/collars for men). I am writing this with my view of the ocean and lighthouse!

First 5 days Amazing....rest a disaster!

My husband and I arrived on Tuesday, July 11th for our first wedding anniversary. I must stay that this place is breath-taking! Our first 5 days were amazing! From the beginning, the service was fantastic. Check in was a breeze and the sales pitch starts as soon as you arrive. Near harassing indeed. The food and restaurants were great. The atmosphere in general was great. So amazing we became owners. Warm, welcoming, attentive and peaceful. We were in building 21 which is near the Sky Pool. Our housekeeper was sweet and helpful. The unit and view were amazing! Go carts everyone and so fast. Hold on for safety please. We choose to walk the hills instead of ride as often as we could. This resort is huge and a bit confusing for moving around but by day 3, you figure some things out.On Sunday, July 16 (over anniversary date), our dream vacation turned sickly and helpless. We rode the shuttle over to Rose’ and upon arriving there – the atmosphere is not warm and welcoming. I had to request a taxi for downtown three times while standing there waiting. Staff not friendly, attentive or helpful. My husband became ill so we took a taxi back to Rose’ to get on the shuttle to go back to Sunset. I was told that I had I to have a ticket for the shuttle even though my husband was ill. I had a ticket for the next shuttle but not the current one. The shuttle driver let others on without a ticket with no care about my husband’s well-being at all. The shuttle staff told me I had to take a taxi and I said fine. No taxi called. I asked for a manager and was told to go to the lobby. I asked for a doctor – no response. A manager comes out aggressively informing me that I had to have a ticket for the shuttle or take a taxi. I said I have requested a taxi and that was fine. Still no taxi requested and she didn’t care. I felt so helpless and no one offered a helping hand, water or nothing. I called/emailed the US Embassy, our doctor in the US, vacation assistant and then I finally called Sunset and asked for a manager. After informing them of the situation, I was transferred twice and had to repeat the situation again. He too told me I’d have to get a taxi as well – how frustrating! I told him I had requested a taxi twice and no one is helping. He called over to Rose’ and stayed on the phone until we were in a taxi. We arrived to Sunset and I attended to my husband. No one from Sunset or Rose’ followed up on the matter or their guest which is truly ashamed. I called the Resort doctor on Monday morning and she took didn’t seem concerned. No follow-up from her either. Now we are safely home and found out he had some sort of GI bug and under doctor care. My husband is very upset about the treatment during his illness that he does not want to return ever. Truly sad!
