Secrets Puerto Los Cabos Golf & Spa Resort

Resort was beautiful, very scenic. Loved the main pool area it was large and never felt cramped. Food was good at the restaurants and they had a variety of options. Rooms were very clean and nice, a little confusing with some of the light switches. Was lucky enough to have a swim up room which we used a few times. Nice thing about the swim up rooms at this resort is they get sun most of the day so the water is warm. Other resorts we have been to the swim up is in the shade and has very cold water.
This is the 3rd Secrets we have been to. The food at the Market Cafe was our favorite. Our hats are off for Chef Hugo Crue. The hostesses were great. Rosalia always remembered our room number; Karen always made sure we got the printed news; Dafne always remembered our preferred seating. The front desk staff, led by Angel, were extremely helpful. Edith, from housekeeping, was exceptional. Secrets should be grateful and proud of the entire staff at Secrets Puerto Los Cabos.
We just finished a week in the resort and absolutely loved every second! We renewed our vows on the beach for our 15th anniversary and Leslie Chavez made everything smooth, easy, and positively perfect. The pools were amazing and always impeccable. We spent the last few days in the Preferred Pool and if you have concerns about getting a lawn chair, the Preferred upgrade is definitely worth it. The main pool fills up quickly and they don’t monitor the “saved seats” very well. There would be plenty of space if they had a system to move everyone’s crap off the saved chairs after an hour. Cesar in the preferred pool was on top of the hour timer for saved seats, which was appreciated! The food was so-so. Off the menu in Himatsu and Portofino were our favorites. We will miss the spring rolls in Himatsu. The hibachi was not all it was cracked up to be but our waiter Sayed was amazing! Oceana was a little disappointing for dinner but the Oceana Pool is gorgeous and has good sun all day. Cesar, Eloy and Estefania took excellent care of us and we were very well attended to! Cesar definitely loves his work and remembers every detail about preferences. We stayed in a Junior Preferred Garden View suite and it was perfect. We were close to the pools and restaurants. Great views, excellent shower, HUGE tub that they had drawn for us with bubbles and rose petals twice. We had an 80 minute couples massage in the spa, the massage was average, but the hydrotherapy was the perfect addition to unwind and still get to enjoy the outdoors. We did have a free certificate after listening to the Vacation Club presentation. The presentation was a lot longer than 90 minutes as they say. They even ask what your plans are for the day to be sure. We met with Billy and Rafa which were both very accommodating. We originally said no, as we already have another RCI set up. Rafa gave us an amazing offer to prepay for a vacation for a return trip to Dreams with our kids at the member rate and that was definitely a happy medium and very low pressure. We may add on to that package at a later date.I cant say enough amazing things about this resort, we have definitely fell in love with the AmStar brand and can’t wait for our next trip. I am happy to answer any follow up questions!
I've stayed at a couple Secrets Resorts and have always had very good experiences with them. This one topped it them all. The service was spot on. I called because our ceiling fan did not work and the repairmen were at our door within 10 minutes. The grounds are beautiful and kept impeccably clean. Our room had a great view of the pools and ocean and mountains. Loved looking out of our balcony especially at sunset. The food is what really surprised me. Everything we ate I considered good to delicious. The Seaside Grill had fresh seafood. Portofino's had delicious lamb that was cooked perfectly. The buffet had so much to choose from. The Japanese Hibachi show was wonderful and the food just as good.Cesar at the towel hut was a standout. Very accommodating and so congenial. All the wait staff did a great job.We stayed in the preferred section which had the preferred lounge which had little snacks throughout the day and upgraded liquor. The house wines however were very good. The ocean is beautiful and the beach is wide and there are no other resorts near by so you can walk along the beach for a good stretch. No sales people on the beach which is a big plus. Red flags stay up at all times, however some people are in the water about waste deep. They do have life guards on duty. From the preferred pool we had a view of the ocean and there was a whale out in the water for a good 20-30 minutes. It was a highlight. The golf course runs it way around and through the property. The resort offers activities throughout the day and nights. However, there did not seem to be a lot of guests out at night at the resort. They may have gone into town where there are plenty of bars and nightclubs.Overall would highly recommend the resort to anyone unless they are ocean swimmers or want a white sand beach. But if you are looking for a beautiful and clean resort, with good food and service on the ocean then I would recommend it.
Why you can trust our review:My wife and I took a 3 week honeymoon covering 3 different resorts for 1 week each in Mexico: Secrets Puerto Los Cabos Golf & Spa Resort (4.5 ⭐️), Excellence Playa Mujeres (5⭐️), and Secrets Maroma Beach Riviera Cancun (4.5⭐️). After seeing the pros and cons of each place, we wanted to write a review of each so other honeymooners like ourselves can make the most informed decision about where to go. We will be doing a category head to head comparison with a winner in each category. Long story Short: the online ratings are very accurate. The Excellence was our favorite of the 3 because it had a pool that was far better than the others. It had a long lazy river style pool and many separate pools and private lounging areas that made the grounds feel endless and private. Furthermore, the room was much more spacious and the amenities included were awesome: a private 2nd floor deck with a large plunge pool and outdoor shower, large private liquor cabinet and snacks/drinks, and a 2 nozzle shower just to name a few. The cleaning service was great and included artistically shaped towel display in the form of swan/heart shapes sprinkled with rose petals. Our only complaints were that the weather in Cancun is a little risky because it rains (therefore making it green and beautiful), and when it rains the mosquitoes come out and attack! The food was good, however, it was actually lower quality than the two Secrets resorts we visited.Biggest pros:Room, Pool, serviceBiggest cons:Potential for bad weather, mosquitoesComparing the 3:Premium Upgrade Club:The upgrade for the premium club is only worth it at the Excellence. It included a separate lounge with 3 small buffet style meals and a bar (similar to the Secrets resorts). What made it better was the quality of food and the pristine and lavish decor of the space. They had a high-end Nespresso coffee maker in this lounge, which was not available into the Secrets premium lounges. Excellence was the only resort to have a private beach and pool area reserved for premium members. These areas included complimentary sunscreen, bug spray, etc. Secrets Cabo had the 2nd best lounge but no outdoor amenities. The Spa:My wife and I had complimentary massages at each of the 3 resorts with the honeymoon package. The best experience was at Secrets Maroma because on top of the 50 minute massage, they let us enjoy the facilities afterwards (jacuzzi, steam room, sauna, hydrotherapy circuit). Cabo was a close second because I think secrets spas are run by the same company. The excellence was the worst because the massage was only 20 mins long and left us feeling very oily and gross. They also rushed us out of the place during the hydrotherapy circuit, and we didn't get to enjoy each part. Excellence did not provide the relaxing and accommodating service you would expect from a spa.Activities:The entertainment team at each resort were very friendly. I would say the Excellence and Secrets Maroma were tied and Secrets Cabo was in last place. This was because Cabo had fewer activities since beach access was limited. Beach volleyball was my daily exercise at Excellence and Secrets Maroma, and I made good friends due to being a part of these outdoor activities.Beach:Secrets Maroma had the best beach, with plenty of lounge room and activities. Excellence was second, however, with the premium access, the lounge area was quite comparable. The ocean was the best at Secrets Maroma because of the bright colors, flat beach, and clean sand near the shoreline. It was fun to see all the water sports and activities(such as kayaking and windsurfing) done by the resort.Pool:The Excellence won its 5 stars in large part due to its amazing pool facilities. There were plenty of different pool areas to explore, water beds and lounges to try, and a very popular swim up bar. The pools are inlaid with colorful tiles, have hammocks hanging over the pools, and are kept immaculately clean.Although Cabo and Secrets Maroma had good swim up bars, the pools at Maroma were by far the worst. However, a good beach set up made this bearable. Cabo had a few good pool options, each with the infinity pool style which was very classy.Nightlife:The best entertainment shows were at Secrets Maroma. Although one was a bit risqué and caused some tension amongst a lot of the anniversary/honeymooner couples, the musical performers were great. The Excellence is the second runner up for best nightlife because of the fire show and relatively young aged crowd. It was easy for us to find other couples and make friends there. However, the shows were a bit sub par. Similar to Secrets Maroma, there was a Burlesque show that was too sensual for a honeymooners/couples resort and caused some tension.Secrets Cabo is dead at night and not the place to go if you enjoy late nights.Hotel guests:The youngest guests were at the Excellence. Almost all of the guests were there to celebrate either their honeymoon or anniversary. Secrets Maroma had a nice blend of young and old, but Cabo was almost all middle aged/older people.Weather:Because of Secrets Maroma and Excellence's location in Cancun, there was more humidity and more rain than we would have preferred. Secrets Cabo had perfect weather every day, and you really felt the dry heat of the desert climate there. However, the rain maid Cancun very lush and green in contrast to Cabo.Food:Secrets Maroma has the best food by far. If you are a food lover, it may be worth sacrificing a good pool area for the resort with the better food quality. The breakfast buffet had crepe and omelette stations, a large assortment of tropical fruits, fresh squeezed juice, and a almost every other breakfast food you could want, all kept fresh and clean.Gym:Excellence has the best gym out of the three as it has a large array of weight lifting machines, many treadmills, and an additional room with mats for stretching, yoga, and fitness classes.Secrets Maroma is the runner up for second best gym. The gym is well kept, has refreshing Gatorade, cold cloths, and water, but is not as spacious as the Excellence gym.Secrets Cabo has the worst gym as it is small and doesn't have the variety of weight lifting equipment that the other two resorts had to offer.
