Secrets Puerto Los Cabos Golf & Spa Resort

This is our third trip to a Secrets resort, and yet again, we were pleased with just about everything. As usual, the staff is always courteous and personable just about everywhere you went whether you were pool side, at the restaurants, or in the shops. The grounds are always neatly kept, the food choices are reasonable, and the drinks don't stop coming until you want them to. There seemed to be some type of activity going on all of the time somewhere on the resort which some of you will love and some of you, not so much (see below). We had very good to outright excellent dishes at Himitsu, Portofino, and El Patio, with Portofino being our favorite. The sushi at Himitsu was a surprise hit, and you can hear the other patrons commenting on how good it was. Keep in mind you can order hibachi, minus the show, in there as well. There were one or two hiccups at Seaside but that can probably be attributed to the sheer number of people that were there and what we believed was a new employee. We overheard one of the staff telling a guest that there were about 500 rooms on the resort and they expected every single one of them to be occupied the next day. It did feel that way at times. The beach area was always pretty sparsely populated due to the red flag conditions that ran the entire time we were there. This is definitely one of those resorts where you'll be spending most of the time at one of the pools. There are two options – the main pool (Seaside) and the infinity pool (Oceana) further south. The main pool is the “party pool” where the music is loud and the swim up bar is always crowded. All of the pool activities (volleyball, aerobics, etc.) take place here. The palm trees planted throughout do provide some shade throughout the day and it’s a little bit quieter on the opposite end on the west side. The Oceana pool is the “quiet pool” with access to a walkup bar and nice views overlooking the golf course and beach. It’s smaller but we enjoyed it a lot more. Once the sun is directly overhead, however, the only shade you’ll really find is underneath your umbrella. Although reserving chairs is discouraged, it was entirely ignored so pick out a good spot early. Some guests were bragging about nabbing chairs at 6 a.m. By 10:00 a.m, you’re going to probably be out of luck. Important room tip… if you look at the resort map, just East of the main pool, you'll see the numbers 22, 23, and 24. That green area within the trail circle is the entertainment grounds. There was something going on every night there, be it, a movie, a broadcast of Monday Night Football, or a dance show and buffet. You can see and hear everything from there if you are in any of the rooms on the North side of that area (the rooms with the swim outs on the map). Those rooms gave you a nice view of it all if you didn’t want to venture out. However, things didn't quiet down until sometime after 10:30 for the most part. So I would highly recommend earplugs if you want to go to sleep early. Or ask for a different room if you’re a light sleeper. The night before we left, there was a fire show on the opposite end on the West side of the main pool, so the locations may shift depending on time and event.UVC members, if you didn’t already know, the good stuff is in the member’s lounge. If you can’t find the bottle of Remy, it’s probably my fault but there was plenty of 18 year old Buchanan’s. So, bring plenty of sunscreen, tip generously, definitely try out the spa, and prepare to have a great time.
This is the best all-inclusive that we have visited. It was a really great hotel! The service and friendliness here is unrivaled. Everything is very efficient. The rooms are very large and especially the bathroom! The beds are extremely comfortable. Plenty of lighting in the room. We really liked the tile they used throughout the bathroom and room. It was not a slippery tile like you might find in some international hotels.Wifi is free!! Huge advantage throughout the property. The grounds are immaculate. The big pool (1 of 3) is very nice. Swim up bar is located on one end of the pool so if you need peace and quiet you can go to the other end. They have water volleyball everyday. I really liked the way they just had the towels stacked up for your use. You did not have to go through the process of giving them your room # just to get a towel. There is another more remote pool towards the beach which is much quieter. Also a tunnel that runs under the property and takes you down to the beach where there are some palapas and other bar.The thing I noticed about this hotel vs others...I have never met a friendlier staff!!. Every hotel in the world should take their training from the people that train the hotel staff at Secrets Puerto Los Cabos. It was amazing the quality of their employees. Always a smile, always a greeting. I would love to sit in on some of their training sessions! Any type of business could benefit from it.We thought the food was very, very good. We ate over and over at the poolside restaurant. While all of our service at that restaurant was excellent, there should be a big shout out to Victor who was exemplary. Needless to say. He got a nice tip from us. Yes, we did tip when we got really good service even though it is an all inclusive. The buffet breakfast had everything a person could possibly want. The quality of the fruits was very good. If you wanted custom cooked items, they can do that for you.For our transportation from the resort into town and other places, we used Brown's Private Transportation Services of Cabo San Lucas which turned out to be an excellent choice. We did not use the spa or golf course, so can't comment on that. We liked their CoCo coffee shop for snacks and drinks. BTW-bottled water is free in your room and from CoCo's. There are three shops in the hotel and that is perfect number for your needs. It is more of a remote location so if you plan to walk into town, you will have a long walk!If you want to just get away for a few days. Secrets is perfect for that. It is far away from the hustle and bustle of downtown and is pretty much a self contained vacation resort.
My wife and I were both impressed with the grounds, hotel and the food. This hotel is nicer than your middle of the road all-inclusives. The food was definitely above average. Our favorite bar was the 'bird cage'. Fav lunch spot - Sea side grill. We loved the lamb shank at Portofinos and the Octopus at El-patio.The 'Secrets Box' in each room allows room service to deliver without having to answer the door in your robe. It is a pass-through box where your food is placed from the outside, then you get your food from the interior of the room...nice!The rooms were very nice. 2 vanities , a free standing tub, a large large shower. Our only negative of the trip is the staffs inability to handle any problem or issue. Whether it was a not so good entree or when their iron left a black mark on my linen sports coat.... their reply was always the same ...' We are so sorry.....' No one ever stepped up and said what they were going to do to rectify the situation..Will we return....YES
Beautiful resort and great service but man oh man I have never been so sick. My partner and I got sick from room service (our suspicions) which burned through half of our trip. I told the front desk politely at the end and they said "I am sorry to hear that." I also mentioned it in their customer survey feedback but sadly did not hear back from them. Hopefully people have a better experience than us.
If you want to experience Cabo/San Jose with a bit of seclusion, I can't recommend Secrets enough. We never left the resort because, frankly, we came for the weather, but there were so many activities, we never had to leave. It's an exclusively adult, all-inclusive resort with amenities galore. The spa experience is pricey but beyond compare, with extreme discounts offered if you choose to spend a few hours in the presentation (we didn't). The entertainment staff are exceptional, offering daily bike rides, water aerobics and volleyball, casino night, karaoke, all expertly executed. Lia, Denelson and Christopher are among the friendliest and happiest crew of activities directors, so seek them out for an unforgettable time.Spend your day by the pool for an equally great show of professionalism and expedience, particularly from Alberto, Abel, and Alejandro at the swim-up bar.Our one *tiny* complaint: the housekeeping was a bit haphazard and inconsistent. Sometimes they emptied the trash, sometimes we got towels, sometimes we received refills of the lotions, other times we had to ask for them. Nonetheless, it wasn't bad enough service to tarnish our stay. Pick Secrets. You won't regret it.
