Location: Beachfront, 30 minutes from Rafael Buelna International Airport, 6 kilometers to downtown Mazatlan.
The other reviews here — including my own from 2010 — will extoll the various virtues of the Las Flores, but you may have missed the fact about a wifi fee being imposed at some point over the past couple of years. Unless I'm mistaken, most hotels in Mazatlan provide free internet, and certainly the Las Flores used to do so too. (The last time I was charged a fee for internet access was at the El Cid Castilla.) Let's also be clear about the cost. In Mazatlan, you can buy a breakfast for $25 pesos. A charge of $40 pesos for 24 hours of internet access is not reasonable. A 20% discount applies only if you stay for two weeks, so seven days of internet access here will cost you $280 pesos. Do not assume that once you pay, you'll be able to get on the internet using your computer, your spouse's smart phone and your kid's tablet. The login sticks to one device. (I could not find a way to release the credentials and there is no accompanying tech support to help you troubleshoot.)In terms of what other reviewers have already said, yes, the Las Flores is conveniently located and is extremely close to the beach, but yes, it's also very noisy around here into the wee hours of the morning. And yes, the resort caters to cruise ship passengers so you may find it very busy three days out of the week (currently Monday, Wednesday and Thursday). Our package included an American style breakfast every day and it was consistently very good but we did not eat at the restaurant otherwise. (I have a detailed rundown of our recent stay on my blog at boromach.blogspot.com if you're interested.)
My always clean and comfortable room was a pleasure. I prepared breakfasts in the kitchenette and ate on my balcony overlooking one of the nicest beaches and three islands. One must ask for chairs for the balcony. I often had a glass of wine, glad that I had packed my picnicking wine glass, and watched the daily glorious sunsets. The front desk is warm, friendly and they quickly respond and quickly assist.the location is good with good restaurants and buses and, taxis nearby. In 15 minutes I was in the Old Town. Mega Supermarket is less than a mile's walk. It has everything for food preparation. As an older woman, traveling alone, I always felt safe, day and night. The local people are warm, friendly and helpful.A caveat. Las Flores no longer has a working gym although it continues to be advertised on their website. Plus its pool, like other hotel pools, is not heated. Their restaurant is poor.`Do bring earplugs. On the weekends there is competing music in the streets below that is played late into the night.
Stopped here to use the pool and get lunch. The facilities are beautiful and well maintained. An attendant helped us with everything from towels to lunch and was wonderful. The food was inexpensive, especially for a hotel restaurant, and delicious. The portions were huge. We had a great day and are thinking of coming back for a longer stay.
while the hotel may not be the newest in the Golden Zone... I feel a lot of people like myself look for what the Las Flores does offer. Its perfectly located on the southern part of the Golden Zone... closer to the down town, super market and mall.. right on the beach where you all your rooms look at the ocean and not a pool or side of another hotel. Its clean... the staff are amazing..good internet connectivity. And with new modernized suites.. you get more than just a room. XO 24/7 store across the street very convenient. Totally safe area to walk at any hour of the day..surrounded by numerous good restaurants and bars. 1 block to buses... always a pulmonia out front. What more can you ask for...and at a reasonable price.
My family and I were on a cruise and stopped in Mazatlan for the day. We wound up here at the recommendation of our taxi driver & we were not disappointed! They set us up in beach chairs, under a palapa and brought us food and drinks all day! I didn't catch our servers name, but he was amazing! Never sat for long without him at least walking by to check in or open a new beer for us. We ate the coconut shrimp, which were heaven and came with some lovely taco chips and salsa! Buckets of beer were 6 for 10$! It was a gorgeous day in a lovely place! Would definitely suggest spending time here and would definitely go back if I'm ever in Mazatlan again!
