Our Opinion
In a great location in the Golden Zone, the Playa Mazatlan has long been a favorite of Canadians. You can opt for the all inclusive option or just go hotel only as there are many restaurants in the area. Right next to the popular Joe's Oyster Bar.

A Mazatlan favorite! This resort offers loads of atmosphere and superb service. The hotel's 418 rooms are nestled among lush, colourful gardens and towering palm trees. Enjoy the great stretch of beach or relax poolside at one of 3 different pools. Enjoy the nearby nightlife at the various clubs and bars or partake in the Playa Mazatlan's own 'Fiesta Mexicana'!

Location: Beachfront, 10 min to downtown Mazatlan, 30 min from the airport.

An Enjoyable Week at Hotel Playa Mazatlan

My wife and I, kids and grandkids spent the first week of January at the hotel. The young ones loved the beach, the pools, and activities, and we enjoyed their enjoyment! We love Mazatlan and have been 7-8 times in the past 10 years. This was our first stay at Playa Mazatlan. Our ocean view room was excellent, and the housekeeper we had for the week was efficient, personable, and helpful. (I'm glad my Spanish is good!) Not a fan of their restaurant system---wrist bands, etc.---complicated and not all that guest-friendly, but, hey, it's how they control their buffets. We ate breakfast at the hotel each day and lunch and dinner elsewhere.

Family favourite

We just booked our sixth visit to the Playa for the first week of March and we can't wait to return. We have enjoyed a weekly stay at the end of February with another family, this time it will be just my husband and I. We love the ocean view, the friendly staff, the authentic Mexican food, the beautiful beach, and wish we could stay for longer than a week.

worst food ever

Rooms are good , Location good.Worst food ever.If you chose to sign in for a dinner expect them to have you sit with other people that you don't know on same table.Service people are good.Reception people good but very slow.Check in 3 pm which is too late and check out 12 pm.If you get to the hotel before 3 pm the hotel won't offer you any things such as food ,snacks or drinks.WiFi very slow .Night time shows not bad.

Terrible WiFi

I was happy with the location and service. The wifi seemed to only work in front of main area downstairs. I was there on business and wifi was expected and needed. The pools were popular, and it looked like a really nice spot for kids. The beach is really nice and not many vendors. Ocean view rooms you will deal with loud music until at least midnight. Great location close to several bars and restaurants. Room was very clean.

February at the Playa Mazatlan

Once again we are going to the Playa Mazatlan for the month of February. This will be our 5th year and our friends Dave & Donna it will be their 20th. Of all the places we have vacationed in the past the Playa Mazatlan for us is where we feel most comfortable for our winter vacation. The Playa Mazatlan has both all inclusive and the breakfast only selections available and the food is always excellent. We love having breakfast at La Terraza an open air, ocean front restaurant with a beautiful view. Georgini's is a lovely italian restaurant with great home made food and desserts. There is a beautiful view when sitting out on the outdoor terrace at sunset. When they have live music the entire evening is very romantic with good food and wine. The service at both these restaurants is excellent from waiters like Julio, Ricardo, David and boss man Raul. If you enjoy traditional Mexican food you will not be disappointed at Casa Roberto's, another good restaurant on the property. There are a few other poolside restaurants serving both food & refreshments. We enjoy relaxing under the beach palapa's or swimming in several of the pools and hot tubs at the hotel. We are excited to try the beautiful new pool that opened just after we left last year. This hotel is well located and is not your 25 floor high rise type hotel. Most of the hotel is 4 floors with a section that has 5 floors for easy access to the beach and restaurants. What we enjoy the most is the friendly hotel staff, always there to make your stay the best it can be. In the lobby at the concierge desk both Elizabeth and Branden are fantastic at helping with any other activities, shows or restaurant reservations you wish to experience. Should a problem arise or there is something you feel uncomfortable with you can go to the hotel office where Lance and his beautiful assistant Ana will do everything they can to correct the situation and make things right. Every year we have had the pleasure of staying in a Deluxe Ocean view room that is clean and comfortable. Sitting on the balcony watching the people on the beach with several pelicans flying overhead or skimming the water looking for a fresh meal. There is lots of things to do at the hotel and in close walking distance from the hotel. With only a month to go we are excited to go to the Playa Mazatlan our vacation home for a month and see all our friends once again.
