First-off, my reservation I made online thru Expedia could not be found when I checked in around 7pm, by front desk clerk: Fabiola who clearly was either having a super crappy night or just didn't like me. I actually watched her ROLL her eyes at me when I told her my reservation was for 1 night only. I am a business woman and travel all over the world and stay in hotels for 1 night, so this type of traveler should not be unusual for this clerk. She never said Hello, or greeted me in any way that made me feel welcome and as a matter of fact, she walked away from me to help a few other people behind me. When I finally got her attention by showing her my reservation email from Expedia. She managed to 'FIND' my reservation somehow in her computer and shoved a keycard in my direction. I had to ask her to tell me a little bit of the hotel since this was my first visit and she answered by handing me a pamphlet about the hotel written in Spanish. Heads up that the 1 dining option in this hotel closes at 10:30 and bring cash because they will not ring anything towards your room.I bought 4 bottled waters, but no mini-fridge in my room.If you want a good night sleep, good luck. Kids running around the hall and a band playing really awful music right down one set of stairs from my ocean view room (which is really a room of the roof of the restaurant so I can't hear the ocean, rather the band.... still playing at almost midnight. URGH.... should have paid the extra 50.00 to stay at El Cid moro. At least it's all inclusive and hire professional front desk agents and not rude ones.
I love this hotel. We just returned from 10 days at Hotel Playa. It is located on the best beach in Mazatlan that is perfect for ocean swimming. We stayed in the Villa Hermosa room which has a 180 degree ocean view where we watched dolphins from our balcony frolicking in the water offshore. The staff at Hotel Playa is simply amazing and helpful. From the front desk personnel who checked us in at the start and checked us out at the end, to the maid, Carmen, who took care of our room each day; to Martin Morales and his staff of waiters working the beach, or the staff in the main restaurant who took care of us at breakfast, or Jesus and his crew in the Playa Italian restaurant - Georgini's, each and everyone one of them went out of their way all the time to make us feel special. Even though we are owners out at Mayan Palace in Nuevo Mazatlan out north, and have been so for years, we stay at Hotel Playa whenever we are in Mazatlan. This place is special and you won't be disappointed. We will absolutely be back to this hotel.
The room was large, clean and had a perfect ocean view. From the hotel I made daily beach walks; frequently took the longer day walks all the way to the Centro Mercado and Cathedral; a long walk but much of it along the beach.Every day I would take time to relax in the beach side restaurant with its beautiful ocean view, whether to have lunch or dinner, or often just for a cold drink. The staff very personable.
We have been here many times but have not been able to go in the last few years due to my health. I am feeling great now and we are planning a visit in March 2017. So looking forward to our stay as we love the beach, vendors, food and Mexican culture. Gracias, Hotel Playa MazatlanPS: If you want oceanfront room, ask for room 4001 or 5001 as they have wraparound balcony and panoramic views. Also these rooms are the farthest from Oyster Joes which is very noisy late into the night.
Couldn't wait to get back to our home to review this property. We have been utterly spoiled by the staff here for the past week or so. Especially by our long term friend Humberto and by Jesus in the Italian restaurant on the property and by Martin, Capitan of the beach waiters. Our room, Isla Venado, is beautiful and has a stellar view of the bay and Deer Island. The new pools at the south end of the property are a fantastic addition, much more desirable than the zip line that they replaced. I think this is our fifteenth annual visit to this hotel, and it just gets better every year!
